The hobbits, more than a decade on
Remember when they were the erotic obsession of a million fangurls on Datalounge? ugh, me too.
Elijah Wood is the only one of the four who i think is genuinely good looking, but he's very short: I'm surprised he's done as well as he's done with shows like "Dirk gently" and a lot of horror movie casting. (The latter is usually not ideal, but at least he's getting steady work.) I'm surprised Sean Astin has not done better, because he's a fine actor and looks like a regular guy, but aside from a few choice roles (like in the last season of "Stranger Things" where he got to show his intense likeability), he's not shown up in good projects nearly as much as I'd like. Dominic Monaghan had one plum role when the films ended (in "Lost") but hasn't been around much otherwise. I've not seen Billy Boyd at all since the films ended.

Elijah has always been creepy to me OP. Billy Boyd and Dom were mostly British actors to begin with, Billy as far as I know has kept working in the UK and Dom has/had some sort of naturalist show on cable. Sean Astin was insanely attractive to me as Sam Gamgee, but Astin himself has never done much for me.

Dominic Monaghan still keeps the prancing pony dreams alive. He loves that shit.

Elijah is one of those rare people who can be--to me, at least--strangely beautiful and yet totally sexless. I get no sexual vibe or energy from him at all.

I can totally envision Elijah Wood as a little cock hungry bottom r4.

Billy Boyd is a Glasgow based actor who has done a lot of theatre and has a band (don't know if the band is still together). Dominic Monaghan - much as I loved little Frodo, I think Monaghan is the best actor of the lot. He was the best part of Lost, in my opinion - stopped watching after he was killed off in Season 3. He's done a lot of indy movies which didn't really go anywhere, but was always quite good in them.

I've always liked Sean Astin, as a personality and an actor. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who continues to work, though he doesn't have a big film career. Gotta love the fact that he's been married since 1992. Over 20 years, three daughters - impressive - and that he's publicly acknowledged, and seems to have accepted, the fact that there have been four men in his life who he considers "dad". I haven't seen Stranger Things - what's the role? Will his character return for the next season? The last time I saw him on TV was in an episode of TNT's The Librarians.

Why? Are we supposed to be advocates of monogamy?
Don;t get me wrong--I love Sean Astin. But if he were the slut of the century I'd still love him.

Astin was the subject of a CDAN blind for 'aw shucks rapist' and is a good friend of skeevy Corey Feldman. The blind is very believable as it has him raping the fool women that hang around Feldman. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

R8, when it comes to celebrity marriages, Astin's 26 year marriage seems rare. It takes a lot of work to be married for that many years.

Dominic Monaghan was pretty cute.

Ah, yes, r9, CDAN blinds, known for their basis in reality so much so they have a disclaimer that says blinds are works of fiction.

I don't get why any of them were RP shipper-bait or gay icons (were they, even?) as they were clearly just camera hogs who liked the attention of being lead characters in a movie also starring the likes of Sir Ian & Liv Tyler, but nevertheless I did enjoy their take on the most famous Hobbits. I can't think of any famous actors I would have preferred to play those roles, and their performances hold up very well.
In particular I appreciated the romantic overtone that Monaghan & Boyd gave the Merry/Pippin relationship, which is merely platonic-fraternal in the books. Same for Astin & Wood. It's nice to have those m/m relationships portrayed this way on film, without shying from homosocial/romantic (?) tenderness. It annoys me though that the best Merry/Pippin scenes were only included in the Extended Editions, like when Pip finds Merry after the battle.

This was on cable last night. I never paid attention to the films, but watched a little last night. I never knew Liv Tyler was mentally retarded before I saw her in this film. Hell, I didn’t even know who she was.

Dominic Monaghan is too fug for Hollywood and he's not charismatic or odd or, hell, talented enough to got the Billy Bob Thornton route.
He should have returned to the UK being a second string TV sidekick to the likes of Patricia Routledge and John Thaw.

They don't need to do anything, they made a zillion dollars. Isn't Dom still a musician? He's a charmer.

Don't know about the others, but Billy Boyd was primarily a stage actor before LotR, and has continued to have a fairly steady stage career since. He also does other things, including being in a moderately successful band, and being an ambassador for musical education in Scotland. I think he is involved with a big youth choir in Scotland, but I can't remember which one. He's certainly not being idle, even if he isn't on screen that much.

For all that people made fun of him, I preferred Elijah's performance as Frodo to that smug boring one-note bastard Martin Freeman as Bilbo.
