What do you think of that dark grey?
What do You Think of this Place, Tasteful Friends?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 28, 2018 12:24 AM |
It’s nice BUT he need not display all his Knick Naks all at one time. Cull about 40% of the pix and objects de arts and de clutter just a smidge.

Check out that adorable penthouse across the way.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 8, 2018 2:17 AM |
I like it the most of any Tasteful Friends presentations thus far. The only thing I don't care for is the herringbone flooring.
Love, love love that glass paned ceiling in the living room-parlor.

I like the bar in the kitchen. The taxidermy room is a little too "Silence of the Lambs" for me. I liked the article since it had a lot of pictures. Thank you for sharing.

I love the apartment. I don't love the dark gray. I like his objects but, he has way too many. And they weren't bad on a room by room basis. But added all together, it's too much
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 8, 2018 3:13 AM |
The color palatte for the apartment makes it clear we have an architect here who follows rather than leads.
To be avoided. One wants an architect who can think originally and creatively.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 8, 2018 3:47 AM |
I like the apartment a lot. I completely identify with him and his passion for objets de curiosité: I also grow houseplants, and collect fossils and minerals and various beautiful things from around the world. But I've somehow managed to keep the clutter down.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 8, 2018 3:55 AM |
I like...a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 8, 2018 4:03 AM |
That place struck me as very schizophrenic. The living room was light filled and joyous, that dark grey paneling was suffocating. Parts of it I loved, most of it I hated. I cant hate on him for his treasures,Ive got a tad too many myself. Comes from having a very good eye and a knack for sniffing out bargains.

So no bedroom door?

[quote]Some of the people we’ve been interviewing have been saying that there’s been an uptick in business since you-know-who has been president. Some of them have been a bit uneasy about saying it …
I’m not ashamed. I’m delighted! There’s an uptick in activity but not necessarily in commitment. People take months to decide what to do and who to hire—probably two to three times as long than before.
[quote]Why are they taking their time like this?
People are very measured. As much as they want to spend and do things, I think everybody approaches things with a good bit of caution. People are as rich as they’ve ever been [while] also remembering what it’s like to be smacked down in a financial crisis.

The apartment is beautiful, and so is the man.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 8, 2018 8:21 AM |
Separately the rooms are nice but not sure it all flows together. The lighting in the living room is lovely, and probably what those hideous 80s kitchen ceilings were trying to emulate on the cheap.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 8, 2018 8:30 AM |
For me, it's an odd mixture of too cool and too cluttered.
I like the dining room, but find the living room cold. Both rooms look like museums, and need 50% of the (admittedly individually nice) tchotchkes removed. The little "wet bar" kitchen is nice, the other one, not so much.

MARY!!!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 8, 2018 9:39 AM |
Unique, and much of it beautiful, even stunning. I agree with decreasing about 50% of the "objects"

You are too kind to be an R1. Try 90%.
I wonder how many times he's tripped over those silly tchotchkes (ceramic balls?) at the foot of his bed, on the fireplace hearth, while getting up to take a piss in the middle of the night. There is no place to actually move, eat, work and live among all that clutter. It looks like a dark, stuffy, "stagey" museum. Dear God, my sinuses are acting up just imagining the dust! I'll bet he actually lives somewhere else, like a hoarder who collects so much junk they start sleeping in their car.

This one of the only Tasteful Friebds that I’ve liked. Agreed, it really needs to be heavily edited but I love the backgrounds and the huge skylight in the living room is unbelievable. The dark gray paneled room is beautiful as is the kitchen wet bar. What I really like is the glossy black tiled guest bath - all we see anymore is white subway tiles so that was a revelation. Overall it’s a wonderful place.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 8, 2018 12:02 PM |
Overall I really like it. But you can't even get to the window in the master bedroom without running into a cactus. I was mentally doing away with much of the clutter.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 8, 2018 1:01 PM |
E20 You find the living room cold? It is the opposite of cold to me. All that gorgeous light and soothing shades.
I like the place more every time I view the photos.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 8, 2018 1:04 PM |
The problems with the places run deep and most of them should be obvious.
If it was any good at all, it would be in Architectural Digest and not that ridiculous New York Social Diary. That alone should tell you most of what you need to know.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 8, 2018 1:07 PM |
I love it . The richness of the black and grey is tremendous!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 8, 2018 1:24 PM |
I like the kitchen and the bathroom, the bedrooms, etc. The dark grey paint is a bit extreme for me - and I like darkly coloured rooms. But that just lacks warmth. I could visit but wouldn’t choose that for myself. Otherwise, an amazing property.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 8, 2018 2:51 PM |
I like it - but it's pretty traditional. Love the black bathroom tiles - fucking hate the blue kitchen tiles - does not fit at all.
It's a gorgeous apartment that's not too stylized. Nice room sizes for NYC.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 8, 2018 2:58 PM |
The blue kitchen tiles are not tiles. It is wallpaper...which makes it even worse.
Easily changed though.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 8, 2018 3:17 PM |
You guys need to look more carefully. There aren't many rooms in this apartment. It is a nice two bedroom apartment, painted to a fare-thee-well, but that's all. The first TEN photos are the same dining room with its wet bar. They are followed by NINE photos of the same living room. Then a few more photos of the same goddamned dining room.
The pissoir I did not need to see.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 8, 2018 3:21 PM |
The delft tile wallpaper in the kitchen is a less-expensive alternate to true delft tiles. I’ve not seen them used in a wide expanse before, only as a fireplace opening surround. But I like the look - it’s far better then the painted cement tiles that are starting to become frau favorites and used to excess by the Property Brothers and Fixer Upper.

It makes me feel depressed. It's like a trendy hotel.

I don't know of any hotels with that much clutter. Maybe the Bates Motel.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 8, 2018 6:06 PM |
Filled with tasteful crap.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 8, 2018 6:14 PM |
Agree with R41, it's a depressing place. No life in it, and too much useless, disjointed clutter. The living room is better than the rest but it still looks pedestrian to me.

It's not bad.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 27, 2018 11:32 PM |
There are no words for how much I hate those dark gray walls. That color is dull on a sunny day, depressing on a cloudy one, suicide-inducing in winter, and gloomy by artificial light!
I suppose it's great for making your artwork pop, but there are better ways to do that.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 27, 2018 11:34 PM |
I would need some blue and some green. And fewer things. But overall, he's one of our more tasteful friends.
And who doesn't love the neighborhood?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 27, 2018 11:36 PM |
Love the Horatio Hornblower-esque dining room but then, I'm from New England so that just feels like home to me. It could just be a personal, sentimental connection to the design.
The Dutch tiles wallpaper is charming but I'm surprised he didn't integrate real Dutch tiles into the space. I love Dutch tiles and have a family collection that my Mother gave to me but I go back and forth between whether or not they should ever be used for actual tiling or just be displayed as art pieces. Even though they were initially intended to be functional, they're more fragile as antiques.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 27, 2018 11:37 PM |
The background colors are good. Liked how he mixed goldish brown curtains with the gray. But too much clutter and not enough pops of color. Like red, bright yellow, even a cool lavender to keep it from being banal and depressing. Even a painting with bright splashes of red on the gray walls would liven it up. I don't like all the small pictures covering the wall. Too pretentious. But I like the mix of his background colors.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 27, 2018 11:42 PM |
Looks amateurish. Lots of (not very interesting) bric-a-brac and some paint are all the place has going for it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 27, 2018 11:49 PM |
well, it can prove difficult to properly exhibit one's collection of Thracian jars from Bulgaria.
