I watched a show on the ID channel. A poor guy who had a horrible, abusive childhood stole a car and was sent to prison. One day the prisoners took over for some reason, I think the power went out. He was raped repeatedly in jail and ended up committing suicide. The authors story may have happened some time ago,before every prison had cameras everywhere. They take rape a lot more seriously now than they did 30 years ago. Of course it still happens,but not like people think. In my wild and misspent youth I was a guest of the state of Fl for 4 years,2 in a youthful offender camp and 2 in an adult camp. In all that time I heard of one rape. Now guys being pressured into sex,that was rampant. The admin looked at those cases far differently than a forcible rape. As far as they were concerned,if you let it happen that was on you. They called them "pressure punks" and they were reviled by the population. Bear in mind my experiences were decades ago,so I cant comment on what its like now,but I cant imagine its that much different. If you were a weak person,you either fucked or paid for protection. Or checked into protective custody. Wich in itself was a fate worse than death. Shower twice a week,and you never left that 6x9 cell for any reason . No books,no radio,nada. You just sat 24-7.
