First photo from the set up the Murphy Brown revival
by Anonymous | reply 154 | September 29, 2018 12:22 AM |
Now this is a revival I can get behind.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 6, 2018 2:37 PM |
R1 That was a three month old thread devoted to the announcement of the show. Now that they're filming, this is a thread devoted to the first photo from the set (and asking about Grant). The archive troll is one tiresome fuck.

No. The show served its purpose. Die already and stay dead

r5 What a messed-up reference. Are you talking about the actor or the character?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 6, 2018 5:57 PM |
Who it the old woman on the right in the 2018 picture? And damn, do valets in LA regularly get $40 tips or is Candice just extra generous.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 6, 2018 7:41 PM |
New Candice looks like she ate Old Candice.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 6, 2018 7:43 PM |
The woman on the right in the new picture is series creator/writer/producer Diane English.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 6, 2018 7:48 PM |
The show is not yet filming. The production will shoot in New York.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 6, 2018 8:07 PM |
Grant Shaud is straight.

This show was very early 90's, when you had a respectable president and real journalism, I'm curious to see how they handle it.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 6, 2018 8:13 PM |
diane e i know, who the hell is that boy next to candy ? Will not watch this show. Candy is SO rich and so is her hubs Marshall Rose, they have enough money for 5 lifetimes...... she should still to painting her Bergen bags for the rich bitches that can afford to have their obscenely expensive leather hand bags painted on.....
actually she is really good at it and never painted before so i am impressed ..

Heather Locklear was CBS's first choice to play Murphy Brown.

I'm with R20. All of the show's original fans are dead. No one asked for this.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 19, 2018 6:12 PM |
r3 is incredibly tedious. I suppose we can expect her to create a thread each time this production issues a press release, from now until the show's inevitable cancellation?

Isn't Candice Bergen a lesbian? She certainly looks quite butch there.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 19, 2018 6:34 PM |
With a mother like Murphy, Avery almost inevitably would have grown into a Reagan republican.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 19, 2018 6:34 PM |
I thought they were recasting this. Is Candy Bergen playing Zombie Murphy Brown?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 19, 2018 6:36 PM |
I think this will be the first reboot that flops. Is there really that much affection for this.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 19, 2018 6:37 PM |
R34 I wonder if they'll actually do that. Give something for the two characters to argue about. Kind of like Family Ties.

Tyne Daly's role sounds pretty awesome, actually.

That's Kaufman Studios in ASTORIA Queens. Silvercup is the other nearby studio, near the 59th Street Bridge in Long Island City.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 19, 2018 6:43 PM |
Yeah this is going to bomb big time. Do you think CBS viewers are going to want to hit over the head with Diane English’s tone deaf politics? It’s not 1990 anymore. It’s one thing if a show is on the air and is organic (I.e. Quayle incident). It’s like they came back just to do Trump jokes. Except every other show on TV show is already doing it, and people are already getting burned out on it. Also, do you think a general audience is going to watch a show with a lead who looks like death warmed over?
Big miscalculation.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 19, 2018 7:10 PM |
This is a show that should be left in the early 90’s where it belongs.

Are they going to have Elden the painter still painted her house 20 years later? Why was Jim Dial not asked back?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 19, 2018 7:48 PM |
R47 The guy who played Elden is dead. The guy who played Jim refused to participate because he knew it would be a shit show.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 19, 2018 7:51 PM |
Jake McDornan is too old to play her son. Look at the wrinkles at R43. That guy was not born in the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 19, 2018 7:52 PM |
Oh! I love Tyne Daly. For her alone I will watch but I loved the original and and can't wait for the reboot. I will miss the the painter (I think his character was Eldin or something). Now this is a reboot I can feel proud to watch. Not that I don't feel good about watching W&G but I'd poke my eyes out before watching Deplorable's reboot.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 19, 2018 7:53 PM |
That's REALLY going to keep me from watching, r49, your dislike of Jake McDornan.

I'm sure there's some nice out-of-work ciabatta who could come in.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 19, 2018 7:56 PM |
Why does Jake McDornan have 3 nipples? I don't remember Murphy Brown ever mentioning a third nipple or any deformities on her son.

Kimbrough's just lazy!

So - non-American DL-er here. Used to watch Murphy Brown here in Oz when it was run - and really enjoyed the first few seasons - but it got pretty tired by the end.
As far as I can remember: it wasn’t re-run here. It wasn’t shown on our cable tv network that I can recall - and doesn’t show up now on free to air as reruns either....
So what’s the story with it in the US? Has it shown up heavily in syndication over the years? Understand the shows like Friends and Will & Grace were always doing the rounds - but did Murphy Brown? Seemed like it was pretty topicslmamd of its time - can’t see that old episodes would be that appealing anymore? And until this reboot was announced - hadn’t seen mention of it for years...
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 19, 2018 8:17 PM |
It was never heavily syndicated, but it did have a run on TV Land for a while, and I'm sure it airs on one of our broadcast sub-channel nostalgia networks.
The problem is, the humor was so topical, it aged poorly. Jokes about Dan Quayle being stupid aren't really funny 25 years later.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 19, 2018 8:19 PM |
[quote]Avery would be around 28 and that guy, though hot, does look too old.
Avery was not born in 1990 but 1993 so he should be 24 now, turning 25 this year. The show says he is an early 20s millennial who clashes with the old school ways of Murphy Brown.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 19, 2018 8:22 PM |
R64 & R65 It has never been heavily syndicated and only the first season was ever released on DVD, not so much because the humor was dated, hell the Norman Lear sitcoms of the 1970's are still repeated all the time, but because of the music rights, because they used alot of Motown and other oldies in the show. I for one am very excited about this show, I was four when this show started and I grew up loving it, until the end. (I was always allowed to watch "adult" tv.) I wonder if they will act like Murphy, who was kind of a slut apparently in her early years, will have had an affair with Trump that she is now desperately trying to keep under wraps. We know he and CB had a blind date in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 19, 2018 8:38 PM |
well r28, no one has much posting history at the moment, but you're certainly entitled to you own judgments. Maybe don't be such a hall monitor though.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | April 19, 2018 9:48 PM |
I will watch to see how they handle the Trump situation. But, speaking of Tyne Daly - how about a Cagney and Lacey reboot?
THAT I would watch with much gusto and popcorn.

[quote]how about a Cagney and Lacey reboot?
Aren't they doing one?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 19, 2018 9:55 PM |
A Cagney and Lacey reboot would be hilarious. Imagine those two fat old broads chasing a purse snatcher down the street. They're in their 70s so pretty sad if the characters hadn't retired by now.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 19, 2018 9:58 PM |
R71 I could see them as retired cops working as private dicks. It would have a Rosemary and Thyme feel to it.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | April 19, 2018 10:00 PM |
There’s a really good reason why Robert Pastorelli, who played Eldin the painter, isn’t on the show. He’s dead, of a heroin overdose. His girlfriend was shot and killed in his house.
At first the police thought it was suicide, then accidental death by carelessly handling a loaded handgun, but finally, Pastorelli was a suspect and the police were getting ready to arrest Pastorelli when he died of a heroin overdose. Probably a suicide. They had a young daughter, don’t know what happened to her.

A pilot of the Cagney & Lacey reboot (with two actresses I’ve never heard of) has been shot in LA, CBS will announce next month if it will get picked up as a series.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | April 19, 2018 10:23 PM |
I, for one, cannot wait to see this. And Tyne is a huge added bonus.
Yes, the show grew very tiresome after 3 seasons but this will be fresh and smart!
Don't worry about Candice, she'll look magnificent, if a bit Junoesque, with flattering TV lighting and makeup. The photos in The Mail are practically paparazzi shots.
And Grant Shaud!!! Forgot how adorable he was when he was young but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Interesting that Murphy Brown wasn’t heavily syndicated. The tv academy as we know had a hard on for Candy Bergen winning Emmy after Emmy. Guess it was an example of a series more respected than loved.

Hell, I could almost be an old style GOP supporter, if you took away the military issue. But today's GOP makes its money from inefficiency and corruption, so it can't honestly say it wants to cut wasteful spending.

Yes, she plays Phil the bar owner's sister. She runs it now. Cool casting. The "Cagney & Lacey" reboot is modern day and does not star the originals. Kimbrough is basically retired. He lost his wife Beth Howland, who played Vera on "Alice" two years ago, but agreed to make some guest appearances. Phil is dead so there's no reason Eldin can't be too. People die in thirty years.

Murphy Brown will go into CBS’ comedy block on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. Another CBS reboot, a new version of the 1980s detective series Magnum P.I., will also debut this fall. All told CBS will have a whopping five reboots in the air this fall. See the network’s new schedule.

THANK YOU!!! R120! I FLOVE that trailer. I cannot wait till September. OMG, Tyne Daly looks fabulous! She could still play Mary Beth. They all look pretty good and CB looks decent enough. I'm already excited for the political stuff they will do! I hope they put out more trailers but I know usually one is it. I think one of the reasons Candy only looks decent to me and not fabulous if because she was SO gorgeous in her youth and 40s that would be hard to live up to. The others were nice looking people back then but not amazingly beautiful so compared they still look pretty good. I wonder if they will ever show Murphy's son. Funny if he turned out to be a MAGA freak.

From the EW article: "This time, she’s going to be hosting a show called Murphy in the Morning. Her biggest competitor will be her own son (played by Limitless actor Jake McDorman)— who’s hosting his own conservative morning news show.

One can only hope her son will be gay.

Jake McDorman is fine...I’ll tune in for the first episode for him alone.
I forgot who the baby daddy was. Was it Scott Bakula?

Does OP ([ troll 5223 ]) see his own red title indicating that he is [ troll 5223 ]?
Just curious how that works?
And r129 - do you see you are labeled [ troll 5142 ]

Faith Ford looks great.
Candice Bergen is so fat that she can hardly produce sound. She couldn't have hired a personal trainer and meal planner to get ready for this?

I’m sorry to say the show is no good. It’s style and characters have not held well through the decades that have passed. Haven’t laughed once. Not even when Hillary showed up.

I watched it out of curiosity but it will not be must see TV for me.

Any gossip on Jake McDorman?

It was an OK episode. Not a lot of laughs, but nice to see those characters again. I'll watch another couple of episodes, mainly cause I was a fan of the original run.
If this was the very first episode I'd ever seen, I don't know that I would stick around.

I hear Lens Dunham has a recurring roll on this show. Do anyone know what that roll is?

People always say how bad these reboots are. Well of course they are. These actors are old. In most cases, they haven't been on tv in at least a decade. And yes, the extra years on their faces and pounds on their bodies is jarring to see.

It was ok! The only parts that really made me laugh was the Hillary cameo and the joke Murphy makes about Trump's hair. That's about it. I also don't believe for a second that Avery would have grown up to be straight....

How come?

ick...come on, was Murph frozen in time with her flip-phone....completely oblivious to what was going today?
Oh, and it would have been much funnier, to us elders anyway, if the less obvious Dan Quayle would have interviewed for the secretarial job ..JMHO
