Anyone use Derma Rollers?
Specifically to help with old acne scars? I bought a 0.25 one from Amazon and now I'm seeing that is only good to loosen up skin to absorb creams, not promote collagen.
Size or roller, frequency of use, numbing cream, vitamin C cream after, how long will face look red?
Thanks

I don't have any experience with the Derma Rollers.
I had mild acne scaring that I started treating years ago with fillers, mostly Juvederm. I did it mostly for the anti-aging benefits - it tightens and lifts my cheeks, fills in the nasolabial folds around my mouth, and plumps my lips, subtly - no "trout pout" lips for me.
The unexpected benefit of my first treatment was that my mild acne scaring disappeared completely.
I pay about $1,200 to $1,500 for the injections about once a year - I couldn't be more pleased with it.

P.S. I also use a prescription Retin A cream - mostly to reduce the size of the pores on my nose and cheeks.
But I also like the overall effect of the Retin A on my skin - it can cause redness too.
I use it sort of sporadically now - sometimes daily, sometimes I'll go for weeks without using it.

1.5mm for collagen, done once every eight weeks. Make sure to use a numbing cream first as it gets very painful.

Thanks r1, Derma Rollers are cheap as hell and I'm poor. I'll update this to let you know my results and if I think you should try/save money.

I owe my incomparable beauty to my use of Derma Rollers.

Do you use cream before or after or no? Some people say it is good to have it penetrate skin others say bad

I buy Retin-A from India over the Internet...I believe it is BETTER than the stuff I got in the USA. Also it’s 6 dollars a tube, not $175 I’m 55 but people say I’m hanging in there ...pps I also use a dermaPEN.....Also worth every penny

R6 It depends what cream you're using and what you're using the dermaroller for.
A 1mm - 1.55mm is for inducing collagen production and reducing wrinkles. If that's your aim, then cream is surplus to requirements. However, rollers less than 1mm are marketed as being for increased "product penetration" (though evidence for the effectiveness of this is questionable) so if that's your aim, you use the cream afterwards.

R7 A dermaroller will do what a dermapen does, only covering your entire face.

I posted this year's ago. Mix the prescription Retina A with a good moisturizer that has no exfoliating or irritating additives and you can use it every night without getting red. Just a little of each. I agree, it is really good stuff.

Thanks to you, OP, I just ordered a set of derma rollers with three different heads, .5, 1.0 and 1.5. Should I use a retinol cream too?

I read the needle has to be .75 in length for it to work.
This youtuber recently tried needling for 6 months and did a review about it.

I am about to use it for acne scars below jaw. I got .25 from Amazon then saw it won’ Help with scars, so I ordered 1 and 1.5mm drom Dr Roller. There is conflicting info whether to do 1x/week/month, or once every 2-3 months. For anyone who has done 1.5 for acne, please describe process and results. Also the brand of numbing cream. Thanks

I understand they are scientifically proven to be beneficial, yet the idea is so gruesome to me. I cannot bring myself to make my skin bleed intentionally. Grotty.

Would a roller work on your neck? So many times the neck is a dead giveaway even when the face looks good.

I got the Clarisonic smart profile uplift a few months ago. It’s the more expensive Clarisonic because it has 4 speeds and also a turbo boost. It’s amazing (and I’ve had other Clarisonic that didn’t compare) it’s one of the best things I bought for my skin. My face feels tighter and it cleans better than the other Clarisonic lines. It’s expensive - like 350, but if you’re really into skin care I reccomend it.
That being said it does NOTHING for scarring.
I’m thinking about getting microneedling with prp.i would advise anyone doing his at home to be very careful with the roller. Make sure you get a good roller and check the needles. There are cases where the needles will catch, and that can cause scarred pores.
If you’re unsure go with the dermapen. It is smaller, and just goes directly up and down - without rolling, so here is no chance for it to catch and snag during a roll - less chance to scar the pore.
Anyone have microneedling wih prp? The doc puts plasma on your face after the roll. And gives you more plasma to take home and you apply it for 24 hours on your freshly rolled face. It’s your own plasma - he takes your blood right before the procedure.
It’s supossed to be better than regular derma rolling. Downtime is a few days.

R21 that also creates a new scar. I had that done in a chin scar, and yes it’s better than it was before, but there is still a long scar (it’s not an acne scar) I want to try the microneedling wih prp on the scar. I heard it is suposse to reduce the appearance.

Do not use Clarisonic daily! It s too exfoliating. Every other day maybe...

R26 it depends on your skin. I use mine daily on turbo boost, and it’s awesome,

I've been using a dermaroller for a month and my skin has definitely improved. It is clearer, brighter and somehow plumper after each use.
Once a week I use the roller. First I apply a 25 % vitamin c serum with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E, then i roll my face and neck.
Then I reapply the Vitamin C serum, let it dry. Then I use an intensive renewal serum with 14% glycolic AHA.
Finish off by mixing retin-a with MDNA SKIN Reinvention cream (or A combination of lotion, essence, toner and moisturizer- k-beauty has a lot of these.) and you'll look like a million bucks.

I had a laser peel years ago for lines and discoloration. It also removed a scar from when my cat accidentally scratched me. I imagine it would work on acne scarring too.

r30, how many millimeters is your derma roller? which brand?
Does your face bleed/look really red after use? Some people say they do it Friday night to stay in all weekend.

I use a 1 mm on my face, R34. I had no bleeding, just a bit of redness. I've only used it once so far, so can't report on any results. I bought mine from Amazon, it's called GHB 3 in 1 derma roller with titanium needles.

Pure bullshit and a rip-off. Did you buy the special jade one that the Asian lady talks about in that awful infomercial?
Scars aren’t going to go away by rolling. Mederma and other prescription products really only work to minimize scarring.
Old scars, particularly cycstic acne scars seem to go away with a laser. The v-beam laser was used on my chest and removed maybe 95% of the scars. It took a huge number or treatments, it was painful, and it was very expensive.. I’ve had cortisone shots to remove some remaining bumps. They don’t work too well.
My ex was covered with scars from heart surgery. That got me over worrying about my scars.

I derma rolled my face once a month for a year and have no idea if it did anything. I got tired of it but can't bring myself to throw the thing away. I'm leaning towards scam, though.

R24 I did microneedling/injections with PRP in May. My skin looked amazing one week later; it was tighter, less red (I made sun mistakes early on), and just looked like baby skin. Now, it looks about the same as it did before. Moreover, the tech put it under my eyes. I never had bags, but you can see now the tunnel she used for the cannula...
They are now recommending I use PRP and microneedling for my scalp to prevent hair loss, but I am skeptical...

I bought the derminator two from own doc a few months ago . It’s more controlled. You can do larger areas at once and control the speed , or you can use single needles for scars or wrinkles and also can control the depth. This was suggested to me by my dermatologist friend who said that there just isn’t enough control with the rollers when used all over the face and yes they can tear and enlarge pores at times. I used them several times in the past with some good results but it was far too painful to get a good result, even with numbing cream. I just gave up. The little machine I have now is still painful, but goes so quickly and I don’t notice the pain as much . My skin looks awesome and a large pitted scar under my nose is definitely fading . It’s important with all of these that you sterilize like crazy, though . Tiny amounts of bacteria can needle their way right into your micro wounds and cause a hot mess. I also use a vitamin a and d ointment after for a day or two , depending how deeply I go..then I use fit,in c serums and retain a or retinol at night and my skin looks so much better . It’s still quite brutal, though .
