Tinder's a lot nicer, isn't it?
Tinder vs Grindr

Fewer gay guys however

Real life is.

r1 lots of gays are on Tinder. In my friends group half or more dates are related to Tinder matches. If you live in the sticks then you wont have much hope anyway, but in the city Tinder is the bom-dot-com. Grindr is very limited based because it centers around your location so your stuck looking at the same tired profiles.

Thanks, R3. I'm going to switch.

I wonder if the gay users of the two apps are socioeconomically different...

What I notice recently on Grindr is the guys who post a beautiful pic of themselves with little or no profile and an Instagram link. Seems like they are simply driving traffic to the IG accounts. To what end??
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 6, 2018 2:25 AM |
r5 I think it's more generational than economic. I was still wasting time on Grindr not realizing that the real party was at Tinder and Bumble. Grindr has it's uses since it is the CL of 2018.
r6 money. More followers = more money. You see a hot gay guy in your area, your more likely to follow them. This is also used on Tinder to the success of many Instagramers. If they crack the 10k range and they can get sponsors. There is a drive to always link Instagrams to these sites so that people can get a good look at a suitor. With so many guys available people are being pickier than ever. Going through 100 Instrgram pics before settling on a Grindr hookup is more normal than I would like to admit. The days of one blurry face pic are ovah, lol.

Oooh, that’s why there are so many fitness model threads, R7. That makes sense.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 6, 2018 2:47 AM |
Oh and r4 no need to switch these apps are free. Best of luck on your search.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 6, 2018 2:47 AM |
Thanks, R9. I have a trial Grindr subscription but I'm going to cancel. I don't want it on my phone. It makes me feel badly about myself. I'm hoping Tinder's better.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 6, 2018 2:51 AM |
Tinder had some kind of paid subscription, right? More functionalities.

r8 it's crazy how much money is being made (not counting the escorting) through Instagram. The founder sold it for right under a billion, it is worth over 35 billion today and accounts for 16% of Facebook's value (they also own Tinder). Within that 35 billion is the sponsorship deals that turn your genetically gifted boy or girl next door into a model for XXX yoga line or someone's instant food channel. It's really cool, but scary to see how the consumer is now a part of the product. All these perfect looking people, and their filters, are distorting the standards of beauty affecting apps like Tinder or Grindr.
r10 be prepared to be talking to multiple guys at once. Sometime people will have two or three Tinder dates (yes that's a term) in a week hoping to snag the best one. While waiting for you to arrive at the bar, your date might be actively swiping through other profiles. It's all in the name of fun, got to kiss a few frogs before you meet a prince. Be open to friends first so you never lose.
Sorry for rambling.

r10 Grindr is owned by a Chinese company, not that American tech is better, but it's something that has worried me for a bit. Probably unfounded but you never know.

Not sure what it's like for gays guys, but a couple of straight guys who are on it told me that a lot of their "matches" are bots
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 6, 2018 3:02 AM |
Guys at my gym are so much more muscular on their instagrams.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 6, 2018 3:04 AM |
Do people really meet friends on Tinder? On Grindr guys put down"friends" among options for their profile, but no one wants to meet just to hang out. đŸ˜’
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 6, 2018 3:14 AM |
r16 yes, unless you are using Tinder to hookup. Typically you've had some back and forth messages prior to meeting. You might skip straight to sex. Friendships are possible, you just have to be upfront about it. If your going to travel, upgrade your Tinder a week or two before hand to find some matches in the area. When you arrive to your location you can already have a date (or hookup) planned with some local gays. These may not be your best friends for life but it's still building connections.

I just like the layout of Tinder better.

I'm so glad I don't need any of these sad, bullshit apps.

scrowlr is better

I walk the dog and pick up str8 fukkers all day...
franklins line my pooch's sweater: they get the message and comply.

Grindr seems to have lots of catfishing photo collectors. Annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 27, 2018 3:23 AM |
Too many flakes on Grindr. You'll invest hours and they refuse to meet. Closet cases ("discreet") are the worst.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 27, 2018 3:25 AM |
You have to use Facebook to sign into Tinder. That's too pushy. Who wants to sign up for FB just to access Tinder?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 27, 2018 4:23 AM |
I HATE Grindr pic collectors. I HATE HATE HATE them.
