Broadway's original Rizzo, she's half Armenian American. She doesn't have much of a discography for a singer.
Boobies!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 6, 2018 1:07 AM |
Haven't seen the episode since I was a kid, but I was fascinated. It was a Fantasy Island show, she was fat and then thin and I didn't understand how they could do that.
AIRED: 11/24/79 In "Class of '69" Brenda Richards, an overweight woman wishes to become thin for her 10th Highschool Reunion Dance in order to seek revenge from classmate Lance Reynolds who humiliated her ten years prior at the prom

She is more of an accompanist.

She had big boobs, but OP's pic is photoshopped. They were never that big.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 6, 2018 1:15 AM |
I think her breasts were that big. See the still frame from Swamp Thing.
She had twins at age 51.

I made my babysitter embarrassed when Adrienne appeared in a swimsuit on Battle of the Network Stars and I innocently commented “she’s got big boobies”.

Her twins just turned 21 on St. Patrick's Day.

Nice tits.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 6, 2018 1:32 AM |
She's aging beautifully. Seems natural, too. Doesn't seem nipped and tucked. I saw her on tour in Pippin and she looked stunning, was in amazing shape, and she probably sang "No Time At All" better than anyone else ever has. I was genuinely surprised. She brought the house down.
She's hysterical in Creepshow as the alcoholic wife of Hal Holbrook's nerdy college professor. The whole segment is kinda like a horror version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I've always found her to be a very appealing actress in everything I've ever seen her in. She's great with comedy.

Her show is at the El Portal in North Hollywood tomorrow and Saturday!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 6, 2018 1:47 AM |
R10, the obvious problem with her scene is that when the monster sees, her, he's the one who should scream and run.
I do wonder why she was not considered for Rizzo in the movie. Allan Carr liked TV performers and she was certainly known because of "Maude".

She was in O Calcutta on Broadway so she had to get very naked to be in that.

She really did have a great rack.

R19, no that was Bill Macy. She was in a show called Dirtiest Show in Town where she disrobed and showed her bar-boobs.

wikipedia says it was a show called Stag Movie r22.
was she in the one you said too or did you remember wrong?
In the late 1960s, Barbeau moved to New York City and worked "for the mob"[6] as a go-go dancer. She made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Fiddler on the Roof, and later took the role of Hodel, Tevye's daughter; Bette Midler played her character's sister. She left Fiddler in 1971 to play the leading role of Cookie Kovac in the off-Broadway nudie musical Stag Movie. Barbeau, as Cookie Kovac, and Brad Sullivan, as Rip Cord, were "quite jolly and deserve to be congratulated on the lack of embarrassment they show when, on occasion, they have to wander around stark naked. They may not be sexy but they certainly keep cheerful," wrote The New York Times theater critic Clive Barnes in an otherwise negative review.[7] Barbeau went on to star in more than 25 musicals and plays, including Women Behind Bars, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Grease. She received a Theater World Award and a 1972 Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of tough-girl Rizzo in Grease.

She was sexy and cool in the Fog.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 6, 2018 2:47 AM |
Did anyone see her in Grease? It was the same year as Follies, so since everyone on DL went to opening night, there has to be someone who saw Grease.
She has a certain coolness to her. She was nominated for a Tony and she was probably impressive.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 6, 2018 3:00 AM |
I saw her in the Judy garland play she did in NYC about 10 years back. She was good in it.

I really like Adrienne. Beautiful, love her speaking voice.
Her son tours with his father John Carpenter. I met both of them last year on the tour. Seems like a nice guy.
She really was great in The Fog. That lighthouse was amazing and it was scary when she was being chased by ghosts.

I never came to terms with the fact that she was Bea Arthur’s daughter.

I think she got a boob job when she was married to the director, John Carpenter. She later removed the Double-D implants.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 6, 2018 5:00 AM |
I think I read that Barbeau took herself out of the running for Rizzo on film. She felt she was too old. She was right. They got Stockard anyway who was also too old.

I think, and have no real evidence, that she is absolutely fucking wild in bed. No inhibitions, everything's on the menu!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 5, 2018 8:49 AM |
I've always thought she was very underrated. She excelled in dramatic roles and comic ones. Her Billie in Creepshow is one of the most divine comic creations of the past 40 years. I met at a convention once and the line was wrapped around the block all weekend long. Everyone adored her. Hell, I think her line was as long as Robert Englund's on some days. She's definitely beloved by horror and sci-fi fans.

Back in the early '80s, she and then-husband John Carpenter did some work trying to eradicate child prostitution. She said it ended when she discovered nobody else in Hollywood would give any money or time to the cause, because many of them were participating in it!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 5, 2018 4:36 PM |
The perm ruined her. She would have had an iconic look if not for the fluffy hair.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 5, 2018 4:44 PM |
I had no idea about the child prostitution thing. That's horrifying and not surprising. She and Carpenter have always come across as good, likable people.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 5, 2018 4:48 PM |
Adrienne said that she was never considered for the movie of "Grease" because it was an Allan Carr package and she didn't have anything to do with him at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 5, 2018 4:54 PM |
She doesn't have any range, but is great at playing the one thing she can, a tough cookie bitch. And the big jugs didn't hurt.

Jamie Lee Curtis never liked her because Jamie blamed Adrienne for breaking up the romance of Carpenter and his Halloween co creator, the late Debra Hill
Curtis said that she purposely kept her distance and was at times downright icy towards her when they did The Fog, Curtis was also best friends with Hill

EAST FISHKILL - A 19-year-old from California was charged with felony drug possession after being stopped by troopers on the Taconic State Parkway Saturday, according to state police.

I agree with R51. Whenever I hear her name all I can think about is that hideous jewfro-ish perm. It was just too distracting. She actually looks better nowadays than she did in her prime, since she's finally ditched that hair.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | November 6, 2018 11:21 PM |
She has the last lines in The Fog, and delivered it wonderfully:
"I don't know what happened to Antonio Bay tonight. Something came out of the fog and tried to destroy us. In one moment, it vanished. But if this has been anything but a nightmare, and if we don't wake up to find ourselves safe in our beds, it could come again. To the ships at sea who can hear my voice . . . look across the water, into the darkness . . . Look for . . . the fog."

I've met her and she's an absolute doll. She really is an overlooked actress. I'm not saying she's Streep level or anything, but she was able to make a lot of things work that lesser actors could never pull off. She always did fear and comedy really well - the two that seem to be the hardest for most actors to pull off well.
I do love her speech at the end of The Fog. So haunting.

Marcia Rodd did the Maude pilot and Adrienne took over when the series was picked up. They couldn't have been more different but I preferred Adrienne who's sweetness balanced Bea's caustic remarks.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | November 7, 2018 12:13 AM |
Rodd was also in the AITF episode where she brings her kid to the Bunker house claiming he's Mike's. In both shows, she was very abrasive and unpleasant.

Her memoir really is one of the more interesting and fun ones I've read. She's blunt, funny, and seems to look back on everything with a great deal of humor and amusement. She never seems angry or bitter about anything. She has had a pretty interesting career though from musical comedy on Broadway to hit sitcoms to well-regarded horror and sci-fi classics to campy b-movie junk and back again. Seems like a fun career.

I don't get the butterface comment at all. She's a certain kind of gorgeous. A little bit masculine in her facial structure but such a feminine body and beautiful smile. Hair and brows and facial symmetry that many women would envy. Because she was quite small these attributes might overwhelm her at times, but I think she's a very sexy and pretty woman. And funny and a bit tough. Solid and versatile actress who seems happy with her life and career. I did see her reunited with Bea Arthur on some talk show - must have been Rosie? It's clear they never stayed in touch but their affection seemed genuine. I've seen old clips of her singing on Carson where her decolletage, dramatic coloring and beautiful face were impressive. Ha. Not a great singer, she has that unfortunate break between her chest and head voice but a lot of the seventies actresses sang like that. The mom on the Brady Bunch - can't remember her name.....sang this way too. Diane Keaton ditto.
Adrienne got better.

Her husband from 1978-1984, John Carpenter, had the oddest career. The same year he directed and wrote the horror classic Halloween in 1978 he also directed the TV movie Someone is Watching Me! where he met Adrienne and Lauren Hutton starred, and he wrote the camp classic Faye Dunaway vehicle, The Eyes of Laura Mars. He also wrote the campy made for TV movie ZUMA BEACH starring Suzanne Somers, at that time Chrissy Snow from Three's Company, Halloween 's PJ SOLES, Rosanna Arquette, and Michael Beihn.
