Adrienne Barbeau - What Do We Know?

Broadway's original Rizzo, she's half Armenian American. She doesn't have much of a discography for a singer.

Boobies!

by Anonymousreply 1April 6, 2018 1:07 AM

Haven't seen the episode since I was a kid, but I was fascinated. It was a Fantasy Island show, she was fat and then thin and I didn't understand how they could do that.

AIRED: 11/24/79 In "Class of '69" Brenda Richards, an overweight woman wishes to become thin for her 10th Highschool Reunion Dance in order to seek revenge from classmate Lance Reynolds who humiliated her ten years prior at the prom

She is more of an accompanist.

She had big boobs, but OP's pic is photoshopped. They were never that big.

by Anonymousreply 4April 6, 2018 1:15 AM

I think her breasts were that big. See the still frame from Swamp Thing.

She had twins at age 51.

I made my babysitter embarrassed when Adrienne appeared in a swimsuit on Battle of the Network Stars and I innocently commented “she’s got big boobies”.

by Anonymousreply 8April 6, 2018 1:31 AM

Nice tits.

by Anonymousreply 9April 6, 2018 1:32 AM

She's aging beautifully. Seems natural, too. Doesn't seem nipped and tucked. I saw her on tour in Pippin and she looked stunning, was in amazing shape, and she probably sang "No Time At All" better than anyone else ever has. I was genuinely surprised. She brought the house down.

She's hysterical in Creepshow as the alcoholic wife of Hal Holbrook's nerdy college professor. The whole segment is kinda like a horror version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I've always found her to be a very appealing actress in everything I've ever seen her in. She's great with comedy.

by Anonymousreply 10April 6, 2018 1:33 AM

I played softball with her gay niece.

by Anonymousreply 11April 6, 2018 1:33 AM

r10 did you call her Billie?

Her show is at the El Portal in North Hollywood tomorrow and Saturday!

by Anonymousreply 15April 6, 2018 1:47 AM

R10, the obvious problem with her scene is that when the monster sees, her, he's the one who should scream and run.

I do wonder why she was not considered for Rizzo in the movie. Allan Carr liked TV performers and she was certainly known because of "Maude".

by Anonymousreply 16April 6, 2018 1:49 AM

Her talent's in the right place.

by Anonymousreply 17April 6, 2018 1:53 AM

I recently watched the episode posted at r3 on some nostalgia channel. THEY CUT HER DANCE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 18April 6, 2018 2:00 AM

She was in O Calcutta on Broadway so she had to get very naked to be in that.

by Anonymousreply 19April 6, 2018 2:04 AM

She really did have a great rack.

by Anonymousreply 20April 6, 2018 2:04 AM

I only saw her in Carnivale, in which she seduced Nick Stahl. Her bangs are always so frizzy and 80s.

by Anonymousreply 21April 6, 2018 2:09 AM

R19, no that was Bill Macy. She was in a show called Dirtiest Show in Town where she disrobed and showed her bar-boobs.

by Anonymousreply 22April 6, 2018 2:13 AM

wikipedia says it was a show called Stag Movie r22.

was she in the one you said too or did you remember wrong?

In the late 1960s, Barbeau moved to New York City and worked "for the mob"[6] as a go-go dancer. She made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Fiddler on the Roof, and later took the role of Hodel, Tevye's daughter; Bette Midler played her character's sister. She left Fiddler in 1971 to play the leading role of Cookie Kovac in the off-Broadway nudie musical Stag Movie. Barbeau, as Cookie Kovac, and Brad Sullivan, as Rip Cord, were "quite jolly and deserve to be congratulated on the lack of embarrassment they show when, on occasion, they have to wander around stark naked. They may not be sexy but they certainly keep cheerful," wrote The New York Times theater critic Clive Barnes in an otherwise negative review.[7] Barbeau went on to star in more than 25 musicals and plays, including Women Behind Bars, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Grease. She received a Theater World Award and a 1972 Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of tough-girl Rizzo in Grease.

by Anonymousreply 23April 6, 2018 2:21 AM

R23, you are correct. How I miss those nudie shows.

by Anonymousreply 24April 6, 2018 2:33 AM

I had no idea she did so much in theater. Can she sing?

by Anonymousreply 25April 6, 2018 2:38 AM

Maude's casting people really liked their nude stars.

by Anonymousreply 26April 6, 2018 2:38 AM

She was iconic as Stevie Wayne.

by Anonymousreply 27April 6, 2018 2:42 AM

She was sexy and cool in the Fog.

by Anonymousreply 28April 6, 2018 2:47 AM

Did anyone see her in Grease? It was the same year as Follies, so since everyone on DL went to opening night, there has to be someone who saw Grease.

She has a certain coolness to her. She was nominated for a Tony and she was probably impressive.

by Anonymousreply 29April 6, 2018 3:00 AM

I saw her in the Judy garland play she did in NYC about 10 years back. She was good in it.

by Anonymousreply 30April 6, 2018 3:15 AM

Hasn't everyone had this fantasy?

I really like Adrienne. Beautiful, love her speaking voice.

Her son tours with his father John Carpenter. I met both of them last year on the tour. Seems like a nice guy.

She really was great in The Fog. That lighthouse was amazing and it was scary when she was being chased by ghosts.

by Anonymousreply 32April 6, 2018 4:35 AM

I never came to terms with the fact that she was Bea Arthur’s daughter.

by Anonymousreply 33April 6, 2018 4:44 AM

R33 continued - she was never able to come close to her mothers raw sex appeal. Just sayin....

by Anonymousreply 34April 6, 2018 4:47 AM

Waited on her once. Very nice lady.

by Anonymousreply 35April 6, 2018 4:56 AM

I think she got a boob job when she was married to the director, John Carpenter. She later removed the Double-D implants.

by Anonymousreply 37April 6, 2018 5:00 AM

I think I read that Barbeau took herself out of the running for Rizzo on film. She felt she was too old. She was right. They got Stockard anyway who was also too old.

by Anonymousreply 38April 6, 2018 5:02 AM

[quote] I think they are real.

by Anonymousreply 41April 6, 2018 5:11 AM

I've noticed on Maude they are constantly referencing how big her breasts are BUT by today's standards they don't look that large.

by Anonymousreply 42April 6, 2018 5:32 AM

G must not have taken her pills today. She seems to have wandered into this thread from somewhere else.

by Anonymousreply 43April 6, 2018 5:33 AM

r42 Yeah just like on "What's Happening!" and "Gimme a break!" the two fat women, Nell and Shirley, are fucking Twiggy next to Miss Chrissy Metz.

by Anonymousreply 44April 6, 2018 5:36 AM

Why doesn't she plop those girls out in ops pic. We know she wants to.

by Anonymousreply 45April 6, 2018 5:38 AM

She was great as Ruthie in Carnivalle. That was an unusual role.

by Anonymousreply 46November 5, 2018 6:29 AM

I think, and have no real evidence, that she is absolutely fucking wild in bed. No inhibitions, everything's on the menu!

by Anonymousreply 47November 5, 2018 8:49 AM

I've always thought she was very underrated. She excelled in dramatic roles and comic ones. Her Billie in Creepshow is one of the most divine comic creations of the past 40 years. I met at a convention once and the line was wrapped around the block all weekend long. Everyone adored her. Hell, I think her line was as long as Robert Englund's on some days. She's definitely beloved by horror and sci-fi fans.

by Anonymousreply 48November 5, 2018 3:52 PM

Adrienne in "Pippin."

Back in the early '80s, she and then-husband John Carpenter did some work trying to eradicate child prostitution. She said it ended when she discovered nobody else in Hollywood would give any money or time to the cause, because many of them were participating in it!

by Anonymousreply 50November 5, 2018 4:36 PM

The perm ruined her. She would have had an iconic look if not for the fluffy hair.

by Anonymousreply 51November 5, 2018 4:44 PM

I had no idea about the child prostitution thing. That's horrifying and not surprising. She and Carpenter have always come across as good, likable people.

by Anonymousreply 52November 5, 2018 4:48 PM

Adrienne said that she was never considered for the movie of "Grease" because it was an Allan Carr package and she didn't have anything to do with him at the time.

by Anonymousreply 53November 5, 2018 4:54 PM

She doesn't have any range, but is great at playing the one thing she can, a tough cookie bitch. And the big jugs didn't hurt.

by Anonymousreply 54November 5, 2018 4:59 PM

I just looked her up - I had no clue she was as active as she is.

by Anonymousreply 55November 5, 2018 5:02 PM

She's of the Eva Marie Saint Just Keep Moving school.

by Anonymousreply 56November 5, 2018 5:09 PM

I absolutely LOVED her in the play about Judy backstage at one of her last London concerts. She truly surprised me with her performance.. not an impersonation but she “was” Judy. It was a great night to be in the sweet Village and witness her talent.

by Anonymousreply 57November 5, 2018 5:16 PM

Outside of her two obvious assets, she has a very nice smile.

by Anonymousreply 58November 5, 2018 9:39 PM

Great hair, too..

by Anonymousreply 59November 5, 2018 9:47 PM

The photo at R15 is her sexy poster that competed with Farrah's in the late '70s.

by Anonymousreply 60November 5, 2018 9:52 PM

She had big boobs in a time before just about anyone could go out and buy them.

by Anonymousreply 61November 5, 2018 10:17 PM

Jamie Lee Curtis never liked her because Jamie blamed Adrienne for breaking up the romance of Carpenter and his Halloween co creator, the late Debra Hill

Curtis said that she purposely kept her distance and was at times downright icy towards her when they did The Fog, Curtis was also best friends with Hill

by Anonymousreply 62November 5, 2018 10:27 PM

Jamie Lee hated me because I wouldn't let her rub her dick between my tits.

by Anonymousreply 63November 5, 2018 11:40 PM

One of the twins; article from 2016:

Police: California teen in East Fishkill had fake I.D., cocaine, bath salts

EAST FISHKILL - A 19-year-old from California was charged with felony drug possession after being stopped by troopers on the Taconic State Parkway Saturday, according to state police.

She is the classic "butter face." And speaking of tits, JLC in her prime had the best tits ever. Close second would be Uma Thurman.

by Anonymousreply 65November 6, 2018 12:35 AM

r1, I was about to say something like you did.

by Anonymousreply 66November 6, 2018 1:05 AM

The cover pic is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 67November 6, 2018 1:11 AM

She got better as an actress. She took awhile to adjust to TV, She also lost a good deal of weight early on in Maude.

by Anonymousreply 68November 6, 2018 1:26 AM

I've always been a huge fan of Adrienne Big-boobs.

by Anonymousreply 69November 6, 2018 5:53 AM

Why didn't Jamie blame the break-up at least partially on John Carpenter? I hate when women do that.

by Anonymousreply 70November 6, 2018 9:00 PM

Ugly

by Anonymousreply 71November 6, 2018 9:48 PM

Quite big tits.

by Anonymousreply 72November 6, 2018 10:13 PM

I heard JLC and Barbeau got along fine and Barbeau especially had a great relationship with Leigh. Carpenter and Barbeau got together when they did a stalker TV movie called "Someone is watching me" with Lauren Hutton. It's really good.

I agree with R51. Whenever I hear her name all I can think about is that hideous jewfro-ish perm. It was just too distracting. She actually looks better nowadays than she did in her prime, since she's finally ditched that hair.

by Anonymousreply 75November 6, 2018 11:21 PM

She has the last lines in The Fog, and delivered it wonderfully:

"I don't know what happened to Antonio Bay tonight. Something came out of the fog and tried to destroy us. In one moment, it vanished. But if this has been anything but a nightmare, and if we don't wake up to find ourselves safe in our beds, it could come again. To the ships at sea who can hear my voice . . . look across the water, into the darkness . . . Look for . . . the fog."

I've met her and she's an absolute doll. She really is an overlooked actress. I'm not saying she's Streep level or anything, but she was able to make a lot of things work that lesser actors could never pull off. She always did fear and comedy really well - the two that seem to be the hardest for most actors to pull off well.

I do love her speech at the end of The Fog. So haunting.

by Anonymousreply 81November 6, 2018 11:53 PM

From her memoir, [italic]There Are Worse Things I Could Do:[/italic] "I actually thought CBS asked me to be on Battle of the Network Stars because they thought I was athletic. My husband clued me in: who cared if I won the race, as long as I bounced when I ran?"

No, I'm pretty sure they're 72.

by Anonymousreply 84November 7, 2018 12:06 AM

Marcia Rodd did the Maude pilot and Adrienne took over when the series was picked up. They couldn't have been more different but I preferred Adrienne who's sweetness balanced Bea's caustic remarks.

by Anonymousreply 85November 7, 2018 12:13 AM

Rodd was also in the AITF episode where she brings her kid to the Bunker house claiming he's Mike's. In both shows, she was very abrasive and unpleasant.

by Anonymousreply 86November 7, 2018 12:34 AM

Her memoir really is one of the more interesting and fun ones I've read. She's blunt, funny, and seems to look back on everything with a great deal of humor and amusement. She never seems angry or bitter about anything. She has had a pretty interesting career though from musical comedy on Broadway to hit sitcoms to well-regarded horror and sci-fi classics to campy b-movie junk and back again. Seems like a fun career.

by Anonymousreply 87November 7, 2018 12:55 AM

Why do Armenian women show their boobies? Cher too. Naked boobies. For shame! Sluts!

by Anonymousreply 88November 7, 2018 12:59 AM

I had a weird gay-boy crush on her … watched everything she was in during the 70s and 80s, during my teens.

by Anonymousreply 91November 7, 2018 12:27 PM

She really has had a great career. She's done everything. She has an amazing voice. She was great as Catwoman on the Batman animated series. She was also a great contestant on the old Pyramid game show.

by Anonymousreply 92November 7, 2018 1:18 PM

Does she mention anything about Marilu Henner in her book? They did Grease together back in the day and I always wondered why the two of them never did a tastefully done nude pictorial together.

by Anonymousreply 93November 7, 2018 2:42 PM

I love you R84.

She was in two iconic movies--Swamp Thing and The Fog. That alone should cement her in the public conscious long after she's gone.

by Anonymousreply 96November 7, 2018 6:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 97November 7, 2018 6:49 PM

Marcia Rodd was the original Mabel in M&M, fired and replaced by singer Kelly Garrett, fired and replaced by Bernadette Peters, who was the obvious choice all along.

by Anonymousreply 98November 7, 2018 6:57 PM

I don't get the butterface comment at all. She's a certain kind of gorgeous. A little bit masculine in her facial structure but such a feminine body and beautiful smile. Hair and brows and facial symmetry that many women would envy. Because she was quite small these attributes might overwhelm her at times, but I think she's a very sexy and pretty woman. And funny and a bit tough. Solid and versatile actress who seems happy with her life and career. I did see her reunited with Bea Arthur on some talk show - must have been Rosie? It's clear they never stayed in touch but their affection seemed genuine. I've seen old clips of her singing on Carson where her decolletage, dramatic coloring and beautiful face were impressive. Ha. Not a great singer, she has that unfortunate break between her chest and head voice but a lot of the seventies actresses sang like that. The mom on the Brady Bunch - can't remember her name.....sang this way too. Diane Keaton ditto.

Adrienne got better.

by Anonymousreply 99November 7, 2018 7:06 PM

She’s perfectly fine...if not a bit better than that.

by Anonymousreply 100November 7, 2018 7:10 PM

Her husband from 1978-1984, John Carpenter, had the oddest career. The same year he directed and wrote the horror classic Halloween in 1978 he also directed the TV movie Someone is Watching Me! where he met Adrienne and Lauren Hutton starred, and he wrote the camp classic Faye Dunaway vehicle, The Eyes of Laura Mars. He also wrote the campy made for TV movie ZUMA BEACH starring Suzanne Somers, at that time Chrissy Snow from Three's Company, Halloween 's PJ SOLES, Rosanna Arquette, and Michael Beihn.

All in ONE year. 1978

by Anonymousreply 101November 7, 2018 7:21 PM

She was the best Catwoman voice actress.

Loved her campy Murder, She Wrote appearances and of course Maude!
