What do ABC, NBC, and CBS think of Sinclair?

Why do they let Sinclair hide behind their local stations?

What about the advertisers?

by Anonymousreply 40April 8, 2018 5:29 AM

Well?

by Anonymousreply 1April 4, 2018 3:24 PM

They should rip the network logo off the Sinclair stations. It’s bad for business.

by Anonymousreply 2April 4, 2018 3:27 PM

With out the national brands attached, they are a tin can operation.

The networks need to answer for this garbage propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 3April 4, 2018 3:28 PM

It's about money. Local stations don't have money to spend and maybe the networks themselves contract with services to provide content because it's cheaper. Years ago that's how the wire services like the AP, Reuters and the UPI got their start. A lot of local newspapers got content from the AP wire. Still do. That's why it's worth paying attention to who owns the AP and how they gather news and the editorial policies and the slant. AP was veering toward the Right for a while but seem to be going after Trump now.

by Anonymousreply 4April 4, 2018 3:30 PM

Yeah but they don’t have to do business with them. There are other buyers/liscensees that the cab affiliate with

by Anonymousreply 5April 4, 2018 3:32 PM

If I were the nation brands, I wouldn’t be associated with these people. It’s bad for business and a recipie for boycotts

by Anonymousreply 6April 4, 2018 3:34 PM

Nobody wants to hear nra tv. Get Hogg!

by Anonymousreply 7April 4, 2018 3:34 PM

The channels don’t say Sinclair. They say abc.. cbs..etc.

The buck stops with them.

by Anonymousreply 8April 4, 2018 3:35 PM

This is what they do in Russia, by the way. Are we still sovereign?

by Anonymousreply 9April 4, 2018 3:36 PM

They're called an affiliates and it's far more complicated than you folks think. Dropping an affiliate is a contract issue and may leave a network without a channel in a market.

by Anonymousreply 10April 4, 2018 3:43 PM

Not that complicated compared to ruining your brand and public trust.

by Anonymousreply 11April 4, 2018 3:48 PM

Trumpism is ruining everything..please everyone vote in November.

by Anonymousreply 12April 4, 2018 3:48 PM

This shit is really sinister. The networks need to distance themselves or they can go down with the ship.

by Anonymousreply 13April 4, 2018 3:52 PM

Sure, it is, r11. Sinclair bought Tribune and is one of the larger affiliates.

by Anonymousreply 14April 4, 2018 3:53 PM

When you get in bed with thugs you pay the price.

by Anonymousreply 15April 4, 2018 3:55 PM

They don’t have to renew these contacts. People are going to see the network brand. That is not good for shareholders. Tell them how complicated it is.

by Anonymousreply 16April 4, 2018 3:56 PM

I always wanted their dinosaur.

by Anonymousreply 17April 4, 2018 4:00 PM

Kellyann conway does the weather and drops in bits about Obama’s Kenyan birth and Muslim devotion.

by Anonymousreply 18April 4, 2018 4:08 PM

Here's the thing. How valuable is network news these days? Who watches local news? I go online every day to the local station to see who got killed and the traffic and weather reports. I like to keep up with sports and business news too That's it. I get all my national news online from reputable sources, and from cable, like CNN & MSNBC. I never watch network news shows. I think viewing habits have changed so much that network news shows are dinosaurs. Sinclair by virtue of it's inherent biases, is behind the times from a technology perspective.

by Anonymousreply 19April 4, 2018 4:09 PM

R16, affiliates own the frequencies. Have you figured out what the network will do to get back on the air?

by Anonymousreply 20April 4, 2018 4:18 PM

Whatever it takes.

by Anonymousreply 21April 4, 2018 4:28 PM

Link r20?

by Anonymousreply 22April 4, 2018 4:29 PM

ABC is dead to me.

by Anonymousreply 23April 4, 2018 4:29 PM

Does Disney really need this headache?

by Anonymousreply 24April 4, 2018 4:30 PM

If your anchor was in that Deadspin video they should be hounded with tomatoes and heads of lettuce tossed at them. Into the stocks in the town's square! For serious. What an embarrassment. They can never be trusted again.

by Anonymousreply 25April 4, 2018 4:32 PM

Disney? Do any of us need this? It’s total fascism now.

by Anonymousreply 26April 4, 2018 4:32 PM

R22, seriously???? That's how affiliates work whether it's Sinclair or another. Liscenses are auctioned off in the various markets. Affiliates buy the licenses.

That's why I'm getting a kick out of all you in this thread. Most of you have no idea how things work.

by Anonymousreply 27April 4, 2018 4:34 PM

R27 is correct. Affiliates are not at the beck and call of the network. That’s not how this works.

by Anonymousreply 28April 4, 2018 4:37 PM

Wow, it’s almost like OP WANTS us to blame the networks for this.

But why? 🤔

by Anonymousreply 29April 4, 2018 4:41 PM

Link?

by Anonymousreply 30April 4, 2018 11:03 PM

So ABC has zero say-so on a channel with its logo. They have no rights and no way to sever the relationship with thugs?

Gonna have to see a link on that.

by Anonymousreply 31April 4, 2018 11:15 PM

So I can take ABC’s or NBC’s logo and do anything I want with it? There’s nothing they can do?

Not buying that for a second.

We’ll wait for the link.

by Anonymousreply 32April 4, 2018 11:16 PM

Once Sinclair completes the purchase of Tribune, they are going to have massive coverage across the US - they may not even want or need NBC, ABC, or CBS network affiliations. They could just develop their own network.

by Anonymousreply 33April 4, 2018 11:30 PM

R31 and r32 your ignorance knows no bounds. What you want to see is the agreement signed between the two which lays out the parameters of the relationship and not a link on the Internet.

R32, can YOU do anything with anyone's logo? Nope, you can't. Unless you have some sort of contract that were not aware of and that you're not telling is about.

by Anonymousreply 34April 4, 2018 11:36 PM

I should have done this in one post...

R34, starting your own network means either buying or developing your own content, which can be done, but it's expensive. Affiliation may be more profitable for them.

by Anonymousreply 35April 4, 2018 11:38 PM

R35, everyone is in the business today of developing their own content. Look at Netflix - they are shifting their entire business model into their own content.

by Anonymousreply 36April 5, 2018 12:21 AM

Networks have a very different business model than Netflix, r36. Netflix is based on a subscriber model. I think the last "network" to form in the way you are describing was Fox and that's 25...30... years old.

And, there is also some feeling that the way Netflix is handling content isn't sustainable, which is why even they started to go the cheap, reality show route.

by Anonymousreply 37April 5, 2018 12:32 AM

OP is the simpleton who can’t fathom the affiliate-network relationship. This is some sort of troll on a tear.

by Anonymousreply 38April 5, 2018 12:48 AM

I watch a few shows on my local CBS and Fox networks, which are owned by those turds, Sinclair

I have yet to see any sort of "messaging" or their propaganda during primetime.

I'm glad, too. I obviously dont watch those local news broadcasts. Woe be unto them the minute I see some right-wing shit while I watch BIg Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. I would immediately contact CBS and give them what for.

by Anonymousreply 39April 8, 2018 3:24 AM

The affiliates are still the most powerful people in television.
