Something Wild (1986)
I just watched Jonathan Demme's Something Wild and I have to say, this is a classic 80s movie that hasn't age badly at all. This is a movie needs to be seen in HD/Bluray. The casting is perfect, especially Melanie Griffith and Ray Liotta. While watching the movie, I immediately thought "Madonna ripped her off big time in Who's That Girl". Melanie shows everything that is wrong in Madonna's attempt. The key to Melanie Griffith in Body Double and Something Wild is her sensitivity and softness, something Madonna is incapable of conveying (physically and verbally, she is hard). Ray Liotta is terrifying, way scarier than he is in Goodfellas. He looks like a dangerous parody of a 60s "rebel". I belive this was his breakout movie role. Any other fans here?
Notable quote by Melanie Griffith: " I just like big things between my legs". She would be adored on this site.

One of my all time favorites. I lived to the soundtrack in the late 80s.

R1, the soundtrack is great too! Forgot to include that in my short description.

Love this movie. Criterion did put out a Blu Ray but it was unfortunately light on extras. Melanie Griffith never really lived up to the early promise she showed in this and Body Double, unfortunately, but in these films she was a great combination of tough street smarts and vulnerability. Also - I had such a crush on Jeff Daniels in this when I was a teenager (same with Matthew Modine in Married to the Mob - Demme apparently knew how to pick cute nerds).

Forget Jeff Daniels, Ray Liotta blasted everyone else off the screen in that film.
I've rarely been so hot and bothered in a mainstream movie as I was when he was onscreen -- sex on legs.
I think he never reached that level of sexy again in any other role, although I'm a fan of all his work.

R3, the sex between him and Griffith's character was very sexy. The bluray was light on extras but I did like the interview with Demme.

The hairy chest when she rips his shirt got to me :)

It's sort of a cult fave (probably with breeders) but I could never get into it. I hate movies about irresponsible she-imps who get away with everything.

I'd argue that it really isn't that kind of movie, though. It seems like it is at first, just like it seems like a male fantasy about getting your boring life turned around by a sexy stranger, but it turns into something darker and more painful. I've always thought it had some odd parallels with Blue Velvet - with Daniels, Griffith, and Liotta in the MacLachlan, Rossellini, and Hopper parts.

R6, me too. He's like a sexy version of that guy from Full House.

Sister Carol was a great addition. As for the rest of the movie, I want to thank Ray Liotta for making acne scars sexy. Another interesting cast member, Dana Preu, as the pregnant classmate at the reunion, appeared in the movie version pf "Gal Young'Un." She doesn't seem to act anymore.

Ray Liotta is unbelievably hot in this movie, in part because he is so scary and dangerous. I jerked off to thoughts of him for about a month after seeing this movie.

This is one of my all-time favorites. Melanie Griffith and Jeff Daniels had surprisingly great chemistry in it, and the film is engaging, fun, and thrilling by turns. I've never really thought Jeff Daniels was attractive, but I found him really cute in this movie. There is a great shot of his ass when he's lying face down on the motel bed early in the movie.

Loved it when I saw it back then. I still remember being shocked/scared at the turn it took.

Great movie. Strong performances, a genuinely terrifying Ray Liotta, and The Feelies as the prom band—this film had it all.
