What is a Zedd

Actually Zedd, in my opinion, is one of the more talented dj/producers. The thing I noticed that set Zedd apart from the others like Calvin Harris is he actually knows and plays more than 4 chords.

Who is he and why is he famous again?

He is mediocre and and an opportunist. I just saw yesterday an interview with Diplo mentioning this guy as the one who chases whatever the latest trend is just to get some radio airplay, I guess his biggest talent is making money for himself.

Zedd's music isn't horrible. He had one of the defining sounds of EDM with Clarity. I know its simple but its very young and pounding and if you were young and in mega disco in Ibiza in 2012 you would have enjoyed this. I usually hated that kind of music but his stood out. True Colors was a decent album. As good as Calvin Harris and David Guetta, if you are willing to call them good. They are beloved. They are money machines. Hugely rich. Zedd is a prodigy of sorts, breaking through very young. He ain't stupid, for example, his perfect English.

I just checked 3 of his songs on Youtube ("Stay", "Clarity" and I forgot the other one). I never realized someone named "Zedd" was associated with any of them but remember them all as songs I hate and have to turn off immediately whenever they come on. Sorry Zedd, nothing personal. I love many kinds of electronic music including many genres of "house" and trance going back to the 90's, but I simply cannot stand these.

BTW, I think it's the endlessly wailing over-theatrical female vocals on the Zedd tracks that I hate. Nothing against female vocals, I just hate that wailing vocal style. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

I'm over 45 and I've been into electronic music since the early 80s. I absolutely loved some DJ sets from the likes of Paul Oakenfold but didn't really notice the shift in the industry to EDM at first. Partly because I tend to have periods I don't follow the latest music, which is stupid since there's so much great music being released all the time. I noticed Zedd when I Want You To Know featuring Selena Gomez was released. I ended up getting the album and although, yeah sure, it's not the deepest thing out there or the best thing ever I found I enjoyed it immensely. EDM in itself is a bit trashy and simplistic, which is why it took some time before I took a closer look, although who am I kidding, I used to love all the 80s pop as a kid.

There's a dark undercurrent in most of the songs in True Colors but I especially like Beautiful Now, Transmission, Done With Love, True Colors and Papercut.

I've actually wondered if he's gay, especially because of the song True Colors, and that he named the album after that. He also "dated" Selena Gomez for a while and it seemed to be mostly a publicity stunt, although I could obviously be totally wrong about it. Still, Zedd himself sort of pings although since he's a German-Russian nerd it's a bit hard to read him.

In any case I really love the song True Colors from the album, with vocals from Tim James. Zedd later released a version with Kesha replacing Tim James, and although the song is totally fine as well I just enjoy the slightly androgynous voice of Tim James more. The Kesha version was probably the first time Kesha returned to music after the lawsuit, and that sort of ruins the song since you can't forget the situation.

According to Forbes Zedd earned $19M last year alone (before paying his managers etc. that is). He partly writes his own songs, produces songs for others like Bieber, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, and obviously tours a lot. According to Wikipedia he's classically trained and started playing piano at 4. He used to play in a German deathcore metal band before getting into electronic music. He sounds like someone who's perfectly capable of adjusting his style over the years and always stay current. As a producer he can always work behind the scenes if he loses his status as a star DJ.

R73, Spectrum is one of my favorite songs and I love his piano version-- the man reminds me of Prince as he plays so many instruments. Zedd is also one of the few EDM artists who is classically trained.

His album, Clarity is his best works. I was never crazy about EDM music but that album sealed it for me, I'm a big fan, although his later music has not lived up to Clarity.

And he's damn cute. Selena was stupid to dump him for Beiber. He actually has gotten a lot more handsome as he's matured. Zedd is not only a musician but has good business sense, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a record mogul.
