Does anyone know why Kathy Burke plays Magda for the first 3 series then disappears and doesn't reappear until 20 years later for the film?
Her character was funny as Hell and I felt that they could've done more for her.

She was in something like 34 other show series at the time, including another Saunders vehicle with French. Also she only every showed up when Patsy's work was in the plot which wasn't often.

She said for a while that she didn't want to act anymore.

[R1] Oops. Meant to say 3-4 shows. [R2] Strange. She was in plenty after AbFab and didn't seem to be hiding away.

She's hilarious, but for years I could not penetrate that thick Cockney accent to make out what she was saying.

Didn’t she make a lot of movies in the UK back in the 90’s? All those depressing ones where everyone was poor.

She's a brilliant actress and always in demand. She took some time off to write and direct. She's involved in theatre local to where she's from in London.

Um...not so much.
Noisy and mouthy, yes...funny as hell, no.

God, i loved when she walked into a scene. Brilliant comedic actress and Jen gave her so many wonderful lines.

Pre-ee soon they’ll be pushing fe-uses down the ca-walk

She's hilarious. Here she is as the Queen Mum on psychobitches. "well, no, cause then there's these fellas..."

She was in that cheesy movie Scrubbers.

I think she's tremendous.

Kathy Burke could switch from comedy to drama without blinking an eye.

And she was fab-u-lous in the movie Dancing At Lughnasa. Too bad Meryl Streep stunk up the rest of it.

Not quite depressing, but she was in the Gary Oldman version of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" as the lesbian, alcoholic analyst Connie Sachs.

There really haven't been many good lesbian alcoholic analyst roles, ever, r17. In their day, I'm thinking DL faves Brenda Vaccaro or Cathy Moriarty could have led the way in playing those parts. Good to hear Kath pulled it off. I'm going to look for that.

I swear I never understood a word she was saying.

Me, neither- and I'm from London, like her!
