Carrie (1976) Part 2 thread.

Since the first one was so great.

by Anonymousreply 21June 4, 2018 4:25 PM

Always in the mood for more Carrie!

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2018 2:44 AM

From thread 1

[quote]I don't recall the fake ballot aspect being in the book either. I think there's a line about Chris calling in favors to get people to vote for them but Tommy and Carrie only win by a single vote.

In the book, investigators did find out the prom court election was rigged. They found ballots in a dumpster that show that two other students Frank and Jessica actually won prom king and queen. The 2002 TV movie references this.

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2018 2:55 AM

In the book, is Sue still on the ballot or did they change it to Carrie?

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2018 5:26 AM

This is from the other thread, but a friend of mine's Mom and little sister were is Trading Mom. They were in the scene where they go shopping for other Moms.

by Anonymousreply 4March 28, 2018 2:08 PM

I kinda loved Trading Mom as a kid and remember being really surprised that Sissy played all of the moms. I think I saw Carrie a few years later. I've been a fan ever since.

I wonder how Trading Mom has held up. Is it even on DVD?

OP --- apparently the first thread was NOT so great that you included a link to it !!!

Carrie is such a sad movie. It always makes me sad after watching it. Plus, I am creeped out by the dead mom hanging in the doorway and Carrie grabbing the girl's hand in the dream!

Question - Were everyone laughing after the pigs blood dropped on Carrie or did she imagine it due to her psychotic break? I was always confused about that part.

by Anonymousreply 7March 29, 2018 12:25 AM

over-rated crap fest

by Anonymousreply 8March 29, 2018 1:26 AM

The 2 best and most tragic horror films are Carrie and The Fly. Superb performances, musical score and all around film. Both leave you absolutely gutted and sobbing. Part 1 of this thread reminded me of the similarities the film Carrie has to The Fly so I started a thread on the Fly. A total dud with 10 responses :(

by Anonymousreply 9March 29, 2018 2:10 AM

R9.... nice effort, but Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis don't have the same DL pull as Sissy, Piper, and at least a half dozen others connected to Carrie.

Betty Lynn Buckley alone is worth 100 responses! lol

by Anonymousreply 10March 29, 2018 3:14 AM

R10 I know I know. I tried none the less. FFS the 2 part joey lawrence bankrupt thread is at nearly 1200 responses but DL thread topics sure are a crap shoot and I should have known better than to expect a thread on a gory and depressing sci-fy film starring goldblum and Davis to take off on here. Not enough camp, scandal and pasta draining. That said Carrie is still one of my all time favorites. I listen to the soundtrack regularly and even made & wore an identical red baseball cap as PJ Soles in elementary school through college

R11 I think we're soul buds. Anyway, timing can be everything when starting a new thread. Political threads do well early in the day as everyone is obsessed with the news, but die at night. Threads about old movies attract the nocturnal creatures and insomniacs who just want to read thru something easy and mindless, so end of night is a good time.

Try rebooting it at different times and see if it takes off.

The Fly is another excellent film. The original was schlocky fun and to turn that into what was basically an AIDS metaphor was really brilliant. I don't think Goldblum and Davis have ever been better. I miss the days when films like this could be made. They weren't "scary" in the traditional sense, but boy, did they linger after you saw them. I mean, we're STILL talking about them to this day, so they were clearly well made and effective. Nowadays, it's just tacking on a few jump scares (many of which don't last after the film is over). That's the issue - movies aren't memorable anymore, because they rarely take big risks. Audiences remember the films that take risks and aren't afraid to go there.

R7: In the book, they are all laughing at her.

In the 1976 film (I never bothered to watch the remake), the kids who pulled the prank are laughing (remember the girl in the dumbass baseball hat cracking-up), but everyone else is in shock - not laughing. Especially the gym teacher who liked Carrie. Unfortunately, Carrie *broke* and killed them all because she imagined them all laughing like her mother said they would.

"the girl in the dumbass baseball hat "

That "girl" has a name. Her name is P.J. Soles. She also showed she had great tits in Halloween, and totally rocked Rock and Roll High School.

She is a DL Icon!!!!

PJ Soles got to put her mouth on Dennis Quaid’s meaty cock every night when he was in his prime.

by Anonymousreply 17March 31, 2018 1:50 AM

But she still had to wake up the next day and be PJ Soles. Ew.

My theory of why this thread didn't take off like the first:

OP didn't put a pic in the first post.

And Edie McClurg's age is good for at least 250 posts that's outside of all the other strands you can start about her.
