Websites you gave up on

Towleroad - Not sure how it turned so bad.

Huffington Post - Used to be fun but now minimal content and clickbait.

Salon - Commercials while you're trying to read the articles.

by Anonymousreply 379February 24, 2019 11:26 AM

Previously TV-The posters were so incredibly stupid

by Anonymousreply 1March 23, 2018 8:25 PM

Every site that turned into trans propaganda, which sadly is most sites these days.

by Anonymousreply 2March 23, 2018 8:26 PM

Jezebel.com

I’m a woman, and it was just too SJW for me. I was probably too old to be there, because the writers and commenters were too angst-y and earnest and I found it exhausting. They worry about things that an old bag like me knows not to sweat.

by Anonymousreply 3March 23, 2018 8:35 PM

Tom and Lorenzo - it’s jammed full of ads that are a nuisance

by Anonymousreply 4March 23, 2018 8:35 PM

Gawker. I can't even find it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 5March 23, 2018 8:36 PM

Breitbart - not as funny as it used to be.

by Anonymousreply 6March 23, 2018 8:36 PM

IMDB since they inexplicably got rid of the forums

by Anonymousreply 7March 23, 2018 8:42 PM

The comment section in the Daily Mail is beyond belief. So many Trump people who are so very stupid. Also, the editors don't post comments that aren't right wing.

by Anonymousreply 8March 23, 2018 8:44 PM

Craigslist

by Anonymousreply 9March 23, 2018 8:46 PM

EW.com - too many redesigns. The latest incarnation is off putting and annoying.

by Anonymousreply 10March 23, 2018 9:21 PM

Crooks and Liars wrote misleading headlines and their disdain for spelling and grammar knew no bounds. They would not go back and correct copy, even when they used a word that was not even close to the word they thought they were using.

by Anonymousreply 11March 23, 2018 9:53 PM

Facebook.

CDAN. I used to laugh at the ridiculous fake blinds, but it's gotten really creepy and deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 12March 23, 2018 9:59 PM

Rentboy.com.

It was never the same after the government shut them down.

by Anonymousreply 13March 23, 2018 10:06 PM

Fisting.com....it used to be so much fun.

by Anonymousreply 14March 23, 2018 10:10 PM

This one. I was gone a few years. The trolls were out of control. The new format seems to help with that, but it's much less active than it used to be

by Anonymousreply 15March 23, 2018 10:14 PM

what are fun sites/blogs????

by Anonymousreply 16March 23, 2018 10:16 PM

lol. I hate Jezebel.

D-listed. the SJWs took it over. It's about 98% SJWs and 2% Trump trolls. It's just not the time for lighthearted gossip anymore. Everybody is pissed off.

by Anonymousreply 18March 23, 2018 10:18 PM

The AV Club was great, but extremely cliquey. That ended in a heartbeat last year when they switched to Kinja.

by Anonymousreply 19March 23, 2018 10:20 PM

Slate - the comments sections turned devolved in stupid puns and limericks and the posters LOVED it. Couldn't get enough.

Reddit - they keep removing communities and trying to make the site into a social network facebook clone.

by Anonymousreply 20March 23, 2018 10:21 PM

I only visit IMDb to check the names of the hotties who featured in an episode of something so I can post their photos on DL. It's just *that* useless without the boards.

The AV Club is still cliquey and they seem to have rebounded after the Kinja switch. The more annoying thing about that site is that they dropped a lot of weekly reviews of shows and now it's mainly just articles about showbiz news that you've seen on Deadline two or three days ago. You know your news reporting is shit when ScreenRant published an article about the same thing the day before.

Reddit... depends on the subreddit. Love Star Trek subreddit since MRAs largely gave up on it, and the Drag Race one is fun if you don't stay too long. I had to leave r/gaybros though because everyone and their whore mother ganged up on me when I called Melania a prostitution whore once. Lots and lots of international gays there so humour gets lost in the translation, I guess.

Slate is the worst because they let every nobody (looking at you, Miz Cracker) publish their emetic diarrhoeal hot takes just to rile people up and get those clicks.

r4 I really want to support them but those ads are just way too much so I leave my adblocker on when visiting.

The what?

by Anonymousreply 24March 23, 2018 10:45 PM

r24 getty images.

by Anonymousreply 25March 23, 2018 10:51 PM

r23 I haven't encountered that problem. Aren't the images surrounding a chosen image in that grey field all similar images? And if you want to see more than the seven similar images suggested, you can simply click on "See more".

If you want to see the image, just right-click on it and open it in in a new tab. I always thought the 'see image' option was redundant.

by Anonymousreply 26March 23, 2018 10:52 PM

Regarding /r/gaybros, the satirical version of that sub /r/gaybroscirclejerk is a hoot. Reminds me of DL a lot actually.

by Anonymousreply 27March 23, 2018 10:53 PM

I'm not having a problem with Google Images, either. Maybe I use it differently than r23.

by Anonymousreply 28March 23, 2018 10:55 PM

Queerty is awful. It's like it's written by high school kids who never graduated.

Buzzfeed was never great but it's maddening to look at. The art direction is criminal.

by Anonymousreply 29March 23, 2018 10:56 PM

r29 Queerty wasn't too bad, about 10 years ago, but it's unreadable now.

by Anonymousreply 30March 23, 2018 10:57 PM

r27 That does look like fun but there are way too many tags; it's barely readable.

by Anonymousreply 31March 23, 2018 11:00 PM

I used to visit Wonkette everyday but haven't visited in a few years now. Maybe it was a product for the Bush years?

I got sick of the JoeMyGod commenting echo chamber and don't visit that anymore either.

by Anonymousreply 32March 23, 2018 11:05 PM

Wonkette gets tiring after awhile. I go back to it occasionally but the writing style gets on my nerves if I read too much of it. It's 100% sarcasm, which is basically humor with anger. A LOT of anger. I think the anger is what turns me off. It gets toxic.

Towleroad has been trash since the site redesign and the hiring of some idiot millennial(s) writers. As soon as the Buzzfeed-style headlines started appearing, and then he started just direct importing articles from some content provider and adding headlines - it's pointless now.

Str8upGayPorn is another one (speaking of Towleroad) where it's good to see pictures of hot guys but the holier-than-thou crusades from the writer (whose name escapes me) gets pretty old. I have gotten so I can't stand reading writing that is just sanctimonious and judgmental, no matter who is writing it. There's a way to get your opinion across without sounding like some drunk hillbilly editorial writer from FlyoverState23. We get it, you're OUTRAGED!

r28 you must be using it on mobile. The View Image option is still there, just not on desktop. And I agree Getty Images is shit. They are copyright trolls and sue everyone to get what they want. I can't even get unsubscribed from their fucking mailing list (I used one of the stock photography sites they bought and merged into their omnibus) because their systems are so bad, even after emailing multiple times to request it. Had to spam bin all the emails and even then one sneaks through when they change the mail hostnames. Toxic, horrible company.

by Anonymousreply 33March 23, 2018 11:16 PM

JoeMyGod has excellent coverage of everything gay-related but I stopped visiting the day Trump "won" because I knew it would all just become a neverending scroll of progress getting dismantled. I'll definitely start visiting again in January of 2021, though.

Used to visit Prop8TrialTracker religiously for legal analysis of all lgbt cases pending before the courts but one bitter rude (but gay and liberal!) commenter kept attacking me and everyone else so I stopped coming and now haven't been there in years.

by Anonymousreply 34March 23, 2018 11:20 PM

*by 'everything gay-related', I meant when it comes to politics

by Anonymousreply 35March 23, 2018 11:21 PM

I used to read DailyKos, but stopped going there. I'm not sure why exactly, maybe when they merged in the writers from their blog sections. And again I get tired of the sanctimonious tone from some of the writers. Do it with humor, or find another way to express it. The format could use an update too - there's too much content for just the straight blog roll they have going on.

TalkingPointMemo I used to go to a lot, but it got too laggy and I find the posts from Joshua Marshall to run hot and cold. He used to look kind of cute, too, and then changed his profile picture to this creepy stalker image - who thinks that looks good?? And then one time he accidentally posted a link to Pornhub to his Twitter feed, for some straight female porn, and then refused to apologize for it or even delete the link, and posted some weird follow up posts about how everyone is a prude and we should all move past it or something. That + the image have just burned this gross impression in my head, I can't quite describe it.

FiveThirtyEight is another one. Half the site is now sports and sports predictions and commentary, which I find mind numbing, and there's no way to not see them all over their homepage.

by Anonymousreply 36March 23, 2018 11:22 PM

[quote][R28] you must be using it on mobile. The View Image option is still there, just not on desktop.

No. Desktop only. I must not have used the View Image option. Let me check.

Okay. I Google Imaged "Jimmy Garoppolo nude" and was presented with this pic, which I now present for your dongful delectation. This is enough for me.

These buttons were clickable: "Visit," "Save," "View saved," "Share." I didn't click any of them, as it was enough for me to right click to "view image info."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 37March 23, 2018 11:22 PM

r37 there used to be a View Image button that linked to the full image. The one you posted may or may not be the original size of the image - Google Images would shrink down the preview image. To get the full, original size you now have to visit the site and figure out how to get it from there, which may or may not be just right click-friendly/easy, assuming the image is even there anymore.

by Anonymousreply 38March 23, 2018 11:24 PM

R7 x 1000

I’m still pissed over the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 39March 23, 2018 11:25 PM

[quote]FiveThirtyEight is another one. Half the site is now sports and sports predictions and commentary, which I find mind numbing, and there's no way to not see them all over their homepage.

You can click on the 'Politics' tab and make that your bookmark. You'll never have to see sports stuff again.

by Anonymousreply 40March 23, 2018 11:25 PM

TMZ.com — I can’t even pull up the website on my iPhone 8 any more.

by Anonymousreply 41March 23, 2018 11:26 PM

R38 Admittedly, "View Image" isn't something I miss, but maybe you can eventually find satisfaction doing it this way. It's not that bad.

by Anonymousreply 42March 23, 2018 11:28 PM

r42 it was useful for what I used it for, and I used it frequently. What you're doing is fine but it's not always going to link to the full-size image, which I need a lot of the time. Getty wanted it removed because they are a big copyright troll house, like the RIAA is for music, just for images.

r40 funnily enough I went to the site after you said that and it's ALL FUCKING SPORTS again. If I click on the Politics it looks better, but I'm still irritated I have to filter just not to see quite so many sports articles. It's not that they have one or two, it's that they have SO MANY. They're apparently a site for gamblers now.

by Anonymousreply 43March 23, 2018 11:37 PM

PerezHilton. At one time it was wonderfully bitchy but now it's just celebrity ass kissing.

by Anonymousreply 44March 23, 2018 11:39 PM

Speaking of websites, what was the one by that guy who used to out closeted politicians? Is he still around?

by Anonymousreply 45March 23, 2018 11:41 PM

Aint it Cool used to be good for movie info but I suppose now its been left in the dust.

by Anonymousreply 46March 23, 2018 11:43 PM

I stopped reading JoeMyGod very shortly after Obergefell. I barely noticed that I’d phased it out of my daily reading. For some reason it just seemed like I was finally able to stop being outraged by (and keeping extremely current on) all the minutiae of the right wing homophobia-industrial complex. I guess it might be time to start paying closer attention again.

by Anonymousreply 47March 23, 2018 11:45 PM

I used to read Salon ages ago. Then came Camille Paglia. Then they had some big dot-com crash stuff and got sold a few times I think, and lost some good writers. Then came the inescapable ads that were always super intrusive. Stopped going there and haven't been back in years.

As soon as a news site I frequent starts having adblock detection software and doesn't give you an option to bypass it, I stop going there. I'll pay if it's good, but there's very few sites that I will do that for, and most are just reposting news from bigger sites anyway.

I had actually stopped going to Gawker before it was shut down - after Max Read took over, it became this ridiculous shitfest. He changed the homepage so it had much less updates on it throughout the day, because he wanted bigger articles to get read more, or something, but they wanted to keep the blog format. Disaster. And then the way he ran the place and the way the writers were getting replaced with trust fund millennials who were copying Buzzfeed... just too much. I wasn't surprised to read the post-mortems on it and the decline that happened. Granted, the Hulk Hogan shit didn't happen under him as head editor, but they were actively trying to make it worse. Under him they published that porn star Brodie's outing of the Conde Nast CFO or whoever he was, and finally the owner stepped in and overrode him. They acted like spoiled children. I still remember them posting some mocking article making fun of the owner (the asshole British guy - none of them were great people, frankly) - because he'd asked them to write a bit nicer and not just be provocative for clickbait's sake because they were getting sued.

by Anonymousreply 48March 23, 2018 11:46 PM

Political sites that were good during the Bush years are now all junk.

by Anonymousreply 49March 23, 2018 11:50 PM

"TT" and "Radar" - Y'all know of which I speak -

The websites are now slow and sluggish due to the numerous ads TT and ROL have allowed to tag along. But hey, bitches gotta make coin, right?

by Anonymousreply 50March 23, 2018 11:50 PM

They're all clickbait and 'woke'

HuffPost was always awful. I have screenshots of headlines and articles of 5 or 6 years ago and it was just as bad. Headlines like "You won't believe which body part this belongs to.." And now their former Gay section is HuffPostQueer which is quite homophobic.

I've pretty much given up on most websites I used to visit. I still come here to DL but it's quickly becoming a place I visit just a couple of times a day, instead of several times a day. I can even go an entire day without posting anything here which was unusual before the election.

by Anonymousreply 51March 23, 2018 11:55 PM

I stopped going to Dlisted as much now that Michael has farmed out much of it to other writers and yeah, the comments are all from very angry SJW . He'll write a funny article making gentle fun of someone and then I'd go to the comments which just reeked of bitterness and anger without being funny.

Never went on TMZ much, but definitely avoid as their stories are always on a lot of nobodies (probably from some reality show) or they veer into politics which in their case is either Pro Trump or anti Obama.

HuffingtonPost has gone downhill even more without Ariana. I'll glance at their headlines but don't really bother reading unless some major happening is going on. I unfollowed them from Facebook

I got turned off by a lot of the liberal websites like Salon during the election. I still remember all those opinion pieces from those type of sites saying that it was perfectly ok if we sat out this election and not vote since we shouldn't have to choose between the lesser of two evils. I'm still bitter about that.

by Anonymousreply 52March 23, 2018 11:59 PM

r52 same thought about dlisted. I don't go there nearly as often because the new writers - I hate to say it, but the female writers especially - try to be campy and bitchy and they just don't have it. Some of them like J.R. (?) the ones that posted when he first started bringing in guest writers were good, but the quality is all over the place now.

by Anonymousreply 53March 24, 2018 12:03 AM

I clicked on this just to add Dlisted ... between the new writers and the focus on reality-TV nobodies, I lost interest.

Towleroad and JoeMyGod used to be fun stops, but I'm not sure if they changed or I did.

One site-app I don't use at all any more: Flipboard.

by Anonymousreply 54March 24, 2018 12:06 AM

HuffPo is useless and bland since the revamp.

by Anonymousreply 55March 24, 2018 12:06 AM

HuffPo is useless since they stopped paying their reporters. It's a dead site walking.

by Anonymousreply 56March 24, 2018 12:08 AM

IHSG hasn't been the same since Darkspawn stole it from Rumorboy.

by Anonymousreply 57March 24, 2018 12:13 AM

Joe My God. At first I really liked it but gradually I saw that it was simply a Far Left PC Propaganda website - and if you dared disagreed with them they would all gang up on you in a hideous, childish way. The name calling and swearing was beyond belief. Have not looked at it in ages. And don't miss it.

by Anonymousreply 58March 24, 2018 12:18 AM

Towleroad, Queerty, The Advocate, Andrew Sullivan

Why do people who type silly words like these even visit JMG? Or DL, for that matter? Just stick to Breitbart and leave us alone.

by Anonymousreply 63March 24, 2018 12:23 AM

R58 Joe Jervis is a militant atheist (more correctly an anti-religious extremist) and he wears his belief system like a badge on his sleeve. Harps on and on every day about his hatred of religion. So tiresome, and it ruins his website. He's an old queen with a big chip on his shoulder.

by Anonymousreply 67March 24, 2018 12:36 AM

I purged the last of my gawker-related websites. The articles shared 50% of the screen space with kinja ads disguised as content. Then, 30% of the screen was dedicated to google ads. THEN, there's a hover video stealing two inches from the top.

I'm trying to go back to BoingBoing, but it's difficult. I didn't care about gamergate or the sex of the bloggers; I wanted sciency infotainment. Now, they've changed format again.

I obsessively tracked plugs and cried "SHILL!" whenever I saw huffingtonpost on Datalounge. We had a worker bee drumming up traffic. The site could contain the cure for cancer, but I can't go back after trashing them so hard.

by Anonymousreply 68March 24, 2018 12:43 AM

I agree with a lot of the comments listed.

When Arianna left Huffington Post, the content became more opinionated and clickbate-ish, is certainly not up-to-date like other news sites like MSNBC and CNN are.

I gave up on TMZ.com when it started covering the Kardashians, Bieber, and rap stars 24/7. I really, really don’t care which rapper impregnated a Kardashian and has a sex tape to prove it.

Qweerty’s articles have become poorly researched, incomplete, and not very informative even from a TV and movie personality gossip standpoint.

by Anonymousreply 69March 24, 2018 12:45 AM

Sadly agree about DListed. It was my go-to website until 2013 (or whenever Michael K. started to allow the tedious and unfunny guest posts to become a thing). The comments also became a big ol' hot mess -- very cliquey and frau-ish.

by Anonymousreply 70March 24, 2018 12:55 AM

[R3] You’re completely right and I was the target age for that site. Friends and I would describe Jezebel.com as woman on woman violence.

by Anonymousreply 71March 24, 2018 12:57 AM

PerezHilton. It was funny some 10 years ago, before he sold out and became mainstream. Now I never visit. Same with D-Listed. The guest writers truly suck.

I also skip any piece of writing featuring any of the so-called Real Housewives. They're even below the Kardashians.

I usually visit justjared daily. Plus the dailymail.

by Anonymousreply 72March 24, 2018 1:07 AM

AfterElton which I had to look up because I wasn't even sure that was the name and is now called TheBacklot.

Gay.com man I spent so much time on that site when they had local and topic chatrooms.

Talkingpointsmemo was pretty dedicated and pursued some solid original reporting in the Bush era. Now in Trump hell they seem stale and behind the curve.

Like cable channels, these sites have allowed their brands to become diluted. In fairness, it is hard to stay fresh for years with not much money and small staffs.

by Anonymousreply 79March 24, 2018 2:32 AM

YES R3 .... I'm a woman and I HATE Jezebel with a passion. That site is nothing but an entitled, whiny SJWs and feminists circle jerk where they constantly bask in victimhood & self righteousness.

I'm surprised anyone can get on PerezHilton.com these days. There's so much crap on that site, it can never load correctly on any of my devices.

The problem with Towleroad is that they now spend more time on eye candy than writing good articles.

Basically all sites have been taken over by millennial SJWs and virtue signalling. But I understand it.. this generation grew up in the social media era so image and perception are EVERYTHING to them. But the pressure to be constantly virtuous is causing a lot of stress in their lives and its one of the main reasons why suicide rates are so high for their age group. There was a time you can make mistakes, learn from them and grow. Now if you do something wrong, or are even PERCEIVED doing something wrong, the public condemnation is tremendous.

by Anonymousreply 80March 24, 2018 2:32 AM

R52 Same.

Michael K was/is great. He knows how to poke fun with a bit of affection (e.g., Rojo Caliente) but the others are just mean or snarky in ways that are readily available elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 81March 24, 2018 2:35 AM

Dailykos was great during the Bush and Obama years, but have become SJW-on-steroids to the extent that they are as far off the grid as Free Republic to me; I drop by sometimes to look at their actual electoral politics wonkery on occasion.

Regarding Talkingpointsmemo, I'm still a paid member, but only look in there sporadically. Again, they need political juice, so seem lackluster between election cycles.

For political fixes, I joined Taegan Goddard's Political Wire. Comments section a bit cliqueish, but otherwise worthwhile.

by Anonymousreply 82March 24, 2018 2:45 AM

CDAN. They use AJ Benza blinds, the guy who planted manufactured smears in NY Post of anyone who accused Weinstein, Trump, etc. So it is basically a paid smear site now. In addition to inning gays i.e., info on Ryan Seacrest's latest girlfriends.

Plus all the above-mentioned sites and for much the same reasons.

Joe Jervis, aka Joe My God, has a huge, coke can thick dick, that used to be all over Google image search back before he had his blog and posted as Sarge on various pick-up sites. They're all gone from Google now except for a single shot with his dick blacked out. I tried to post it but the URL was longer than DL allows. Like his dick, I guess.

Film site My New Plaid Pants used to be a fun site but the owner became a CMBYN fantatic and every post for the last several months has been about Armie or Timothee....(probably one of the reasons I will never see the film!)

TMZ is all about no name rappers and their legal issues (duh!)

QWERTY became a gay Buzzfeed (gay-er?) aimed at early 20s white privileged brand kweens (Davey-wavey signaled the end)

JoeMyGod became far too depressing (it was like the Sarah Paulson screechy histrionic liberal character from the latest season of AHS--at least the first episode-which was all I could handle before shutting it off!)

by Anonymousreply 94March 24, 2018 11:13 AM

I still like JoeMyGod, yeah sometimes it's a little depressing but so is our country right now. And other than having an anti religious bias he doesn't give too many opinions on his articles. Queerty and Towleroad and Huffpost QueerVoices are just awful though

Oddly Lainey Gossip is consistent and has decent guest writers. I know I will get flamed but her site is tolerable.

Seriously? It's been a while but the last time I was there it was wall-to-wall Trumpsters being racist and homophobic.

Jezebel is "third wave" (i.e. anti-women) horseshit

by Anonymousreply 101March 24, 2018 2:13 PM

Jezebel - now an irrelevant SJW / Feminist Hipster / Young Frau echo chamber. The posts tend to be woketastic with clickbait-esque titles with “FUCKING” inserted for obnoxious and unnecessary emphasis.

“This_____Is_____and It’s FUCKING Amazing”

by Anonymousreply 102March 24, 2018 2:21 PM

[quote]But the pressure to be constantly virtuous is causing a lot of stress in their lives and its one of the main reasons why suicide rates are so high for their age group.

This is a complete lie. Suicide rates for women are highest in the 45-64 age cohort, and for men in the 75+ cohort. Suicide rates for Millennials are the second lowest, with rates for Gen Z of ages 24 and under the lowest.

What kind of person are you to just make up fake statistics about an entire generation so you can complain about "all sites and their virtue signalling"? What the fuck kind of trolling are you trying to get away with here? Equating liberalism with suicide, I suppose.

I'm on Jezebel's front page now and it's just news articles with a few entertainment pieces and one generic "feminism is for everybody" video.

Dunno what you guys are seeing but I'm not finding any the "crazed Millennial SJWs ruining the world" crap you claim is there. Looks boring and bland, and that old lady Tracy Clark is still trying to pretend to be edgy by writing about porn. Not a single "fucking" to be found, just bland-as-porridge articles of no substance. Jezebel sucks, but not in the way you're suggesting.

by Anonymousreply 104March 24, 2018 2:27 PM

DListed is flyover fat frau hell. The irony is how they all sit around and look down on celebs from the comfort of a lawn chair on the deck of their double wide - all while sipping on wine from a box.

by Anonymousreply 105March 24, 2018 2:27 PM

R104 the question was why we gave up on it. If you scroll back a year you will see indications of what we are talking about, especially when the #metoo movement was full tilt. The fact that it doesn’t look that way right now doesn’t mean our perceptions or opinions are incorrect.

by Anonymousreply 106March 24, 2018 2:32 PM

ONTD; it used to be funny and bitchy but now it is all SJW. Plus I got old haha.

Everyone was speaking about Jezebel in the present tense, R106. But you knew that.

I'm tired of trolls and conservatives who take topics like this and exaggerate things, just so they can turn the entire thread into rants about the SCOURGE OF MILLENNIALS!!! AND SJWS!!!! AND ALSO TRANS!!!!! It's been happening for years, not just on DL but everywhere, and is just the slightly newer version of the old 1990s "PC culture is ruining America." In fact, I think one of the utter walnuts on this thread that I put on ignore used the term "PC." So, you know, not really a lot of fresh complaints here.

I've got no beef with people who answered this thread with genuine opinions. Got a little bit of beef with the people who took advantage to do more of the "waaah I hate young liberals" crap. As if you don't do it on every other thread already.

Anyway, feel free to wring your hands over Jezebel using the "fuck" word in their titles, Tipper. Maybe you can get them to put warning stickers on their websites. Think of the children!

by Anonymousreply 111March 24, 2018 2:45 PM

JoeMyGod is a great blog, but unfortunately the comments section of posts often get hijacked by the Eldergay garden party when someone mentions a pet or particular malady. Then it’s non-stop photos of pets, anecdotes on bouts with bursitis, etc Outside of that the readers are a pretty sharp, especially when it comes to politics. So I still read, but don’t wade through the comments as much as I used to.

by Anonymousreply 112March 24, 2018 2:47 PM

Dlisted. I’ve been there for at least 14 years. Still check in most days because MK still has my heart, and I still really enjoy some of the fellow commenters. But when it was all #metoo all the time, it was difficult.

It was my fun place, and it’s gotten really heavy and political. And if you disagree with some of the Queen Bees over there, you’re toast. I keep some opinions to myself because I don’t want the hive after me. That happens here, too.

by Anonymousreply 113March 24, 2018 2:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 119March 24, 2018 2:59 PM

R111, I’m the old bag who gave up on Jezebel because they sweat the small stuff. The debate about cultural appropriation was the last straw for me.

Reading Jezebel and its comments is not how I want to spend my time.

Keep tilting at those windmills, though! *salutes r111*

by Anonymousreply 120March 24, 2018 3:04 PM

Used to love dlisted ten years ago. Stopped checking in 2010. Playbill after that update whenever it was killed it for me. Datalounge was never the same after this new format. Queerty. The youtube app update on apple tv. Everything was working fine and they just keep fucking it up. Eventually I'll stop using the internet completely. The updates are dumb. Just stopped using Instagram. Putting all those annoying ads i dont give a fuck about. Its all going downhill. Ruining a good thing.

This is true. That’s why DListed sucks now. The comments section is a flyover fat frau version of Mean Girls.

by Anonymousreply 122March 24, 2018 3:08 PM

Dlisted. The guest writers suck. The commenters think too highly of themselves and their wit when they aren't seeking attention with sob stories

I just don't get how things are getting worse. 2018 and the websites and computers are getting worse. And all these apps. It's fucking retarded. Used to be so simple. What is the thinking behind this? It must be money. Money ruins EVERYTHING.

by Anonymousreply 124March 24, 2018 3:24 PM

Queerty. Once they started making a new article every few days over Whisper app confessionals (some of which was most likely made-up bullshit), complete with clickbait titles, I was done.

Their obsessions over particular public figures (not all of whom were even gay) were weirdly annoying too. Davey Wavey does not need a new article written about him every week.

by Anonymousreply 125March 24, 2018 3:27 PM

I agree about Towleroad, Huffington Post, and Queerty.

I also stopped going to Kennethinthe212 since all he does now is link to other sites.

JoeMyGod is still required reading for me, however.

To be an audiophile is to dwell in unhappiness.

Oh R22 (sigh..) There is nothing as moribund as good ole two-channel audio. All that remains of my former hobby is the consumer-level plastic A/V junk, or the mystical realm of the high-end, where the cultists play at being engineers, when they're nothing but priests with access to test instruments (I'm lookin' at YOU Stereophile magazine). All the Grand Old Men of the Golden Age are gone, and with them went scientific rigor and objectivity.

Ripped all the CDs and sold them, auctioned off all of my electronics (most of them orphaned, alas), put the LPs and 'tables in storage (they're forever in 'cold, dead hands' territory). Even auctioned off my hand-written letter from Mike Custer.

Oh well..it was great while it lasted.

by Anonymousreply 132March 24, 2018 4:57 PM

R127, and if you ever objected to a chauvinistic comment, you’d receive “Jezebel isn’t a feminist website” as a response.

Which, I guess, is true. It masquerades as one, when it suits.

by Anonymousreply 133March 24, 2018 5:17 PM

But they (Jezebel commenters) ran off a guy, Mortal Dictata(?) for hijacking threads, didn't they? Basically told him to shut it because he was posting too much. That seems super duper feminist to me. I hate read the comment section over there.

by Anonymousreply 134March 24, 2018 5:31 PM

R130 I've found the Steve Hoffman forums helpful. Started collecting vinyl again recently and found helpful info about new reissues, what versions to buy and not to buy, etc. I'm not an uber audiophile but I do want to have a decent sounding record.

Having said that, the site is filled with old white straight dudes who have 1,287,459 versions of the same Steely Dan/Rolling Stones/Elvis Costello record in their collections and are constantly talking about/buying/selling the same. It's tiresome.

(And I like and have music by all three of those artists, but y'all get the picture.)

by Anonymousreply 135March 24, 2018 5:34 PM

R98 Joe is smart and I respect all he does. I agree he's beautiful and I love his dick, though that photo is, at minimum, 20 years old.

Numerous people here have indicated that he is poz, so anyone playing with that monster dick would need to know that. Also, from what I have seen of the guys he likes, he's into short muscle Latinos. A regular Anderson Cooper, he is!!

Have seen his friends on FB and a good number of them are fucking gorgeous. One of them is supposedly a doctor and is hot as FUCK.

by Anonymousreply 137March 24, 2018 5:42 PM

Alternet.org - I swear, practically every other article on there these days is something about female orgasms. If you think I'm kidding, do the following search on Google - site:alternet.org "female orgasm". There are literally 700+ articles indexed by Google from that site about female orgasms. "What a Hands-On Guide to the Female Orgasm Looks Like | Alternet", "The Female Orgasm, Clarified and Demystified | Alternet", "5 Myths About Female Orgasms That Need to Die Already | Alternet", etc...

by Anonymousreply 138March 24, 2018 6:11 PM

Wow, I did not know that , R138. I used to read it during the Bush years, but noticed recently that it was pushing regressive things, so I stopped. They are all now a combination of very stupid and regressive. I guess the 1% foundations funding them are getting what they want.

by Anonymousreply 139March 24, 2018 6:20 PM

r118 is incoherent.

As for giving up on Jezebel, I kind of wonder what kind of person was ever a fan of it in the first place. But I never got the appeal of any of the Gawker family of sites. They were all painfully middle of the road.

by Anonymousreply 140March 24, 2018 6:29 PM

I'm having a tough time remembering what websites I ever regularly went to in the first place. I think I always relied on aggregators like MeFi, Fark, etc.

by Anonymousreply 141March 24, 2018 6:40 PM

JoeMyGod is painful. Ridiculously angsty and overwrought fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 142March 24, 2018 6:46 PM

A couple posters mentioned Entertainment Weekly. I'll add to that. A perfect example of a company that seemed to go out of it's way to ruin what was once an excellent product.

First the magazine: I was a subscriber for over 20 years. Soon after it's inception. It was always an immediate must read. Topical, great format, reviews, etc. The sound bites column was hilarious. And there were often very sly remarks and in-jokes in their reviews, titles of articles and picture captions.

My favorite was a review of the immensely popular The Hills when it debuted. With their review, attached was a pic with four cast members, their names listed as all magazines do. But then was written "Not pictured: Martha DumpTruck". (who here gets that?)

But at some point, they started bringing in new editors every couple of years or so, who apparently felt they had to make it their own and they'd dispense with certain columns, change the font and format, really dumb it down. It progressively got worse to the point that it would take me less than 10 minutes to get thru an issue. I'd glance a couple of news items, check out the review ratings and toss it in the trash. I finally cancelled my subscription.

Then I discovered it on line and it was fairly decent set-up. I would go for latest news and read the reviews which I had missed. It was very quick and user-friendly. Then started to fuck with that. It became so filled with advertisements and practically impossible to navigate to whatever story I was interested in so I just gave up.

by Anonymousreply 143March 24, 2018 7:01 PM

I gave up on Deadline Hollywood for the most part once Nikki Finke left.

It was phenomenal before that, even though sister did write LOOOOOONG posts sometimes. Now it's a shadow of its former self and the same as Variety, Hollywood Reporter, the Wrap et al.

Deadline also sucks ass on mobile phones, because it's always popping up spam and "Congratulations you won blah b;ah" shit on that site. Hate it.

by Anonymousreply 144March 24, 2018 7:05 PM

R144 I still check it on a regular basis as it's often first with breaking news, but since Nikki left I spend a lot less time reading the articles. I just breeze thru the headlines. And only on my laptop. I agree about the mobile.

by Anonymousreply 145March 24, 2018 7:09 PM

Being male and posting on Jezebel is ok as long as you are a “woke” neutered male like the readers’ hipster husbands.

by Anonymousreply 146March 24, 2018 7:36 PM

Joe Jervis of JMG tends to be obsessive - endless postings about Trump, hating religion, and other pet peeves. If you've read one of his day's column you've pretty much read them all. Tedious and repetitive. And I'm convinced that some of his followers/commentators need to be in an institution. There's a lot of mindless anger and hate on his website. It's not for the faint of heart.

by Anonymousreply 147March 24, 2018 7:46 PM

R142 yeah there's a bit of that going on. But there are few regular commentators who push back against the hyperbolic fantasies. I think the comment section is more balanced then the articles are

by Anonymousreply 148March 24, 2018 8:14 PM

Sorry to hijack this, but where are there gay sites with forums where I can look for other gay men who used to work at Gap and saved the playlists as I did?

I think the saving-of-the-paper-playlists thing is a mainly gay male thing but I can't even find another site aside from DL where gay men even post.

I remember the Early 2000s when message boards were still big but now I can't find any.

Any ideas of where to look?

To respond to the OP's question: I gave up on DC Comics' site because all of the posts were about the TV shows and out-of-continuity graphic novels, with hardly any content about the monthly DC Universe comic books.

The last time I heard anyone use the word bursitis was on an episode of The Honeymooners.

by Anonymousreply 150March 24, 2018 8:56 PM

Back in the Dubya days the right wing posters/sites were freepers and tea baggers. They weren't nearly as bad as the ones today. I remember during the 2016 election I thought, "When did freepers get so good at this? And why are there so many of them?" I mean, they were retirees and people on disability writing really stupid shit. But this go-round was different.

When I heard about political bots and Russians, it made perfect sense. We weren't dealing with the old freepers and tea baggers. This shit is weaponized and widespread now. And I'm sure they've got more up their sleeves than we've seen. There's a big difference between trailer park malcontents and Cambridge Analytica.

They ruined so many Internet forums/comments sections that tons were closed down and others became impossible to use without a Facebook ID. And once the trolls got your Facebook ID, fuggeddabowdit. The whole internet turned into a maze of bots, trolls and data miners.

by Anonymousreply 151March 24, 2018 9:05 PM

R149 I don't think anyone anywhere is as, well, dedicated to that pursuit as you.

by Anonymousreply 152March 24, 2018 9:08 PM

The fashion site Go Fug Yourself - they changed the format about 18 months ago and it made reading comments a hassle. They also filled up the screen with too much content - more outside links, etc. So much more content to choose from means you wonder if I click here will I get lost in a wasteland that takes me away from the main content.

by Anonymousreply 153March 24, 2018 9:19 PM

Any former MuscleService users on here? I used to check it daily. It became less and less user friendly and just plain boring. Not sure if it even still exits.

by Anonymousreply 154March 24, 2018 9:27 PM

HKN Haven

That site kept the dream of Bella and Vampire Boy alive!

I really enjoyed the crudely drawn on arrows on the photos that were meant to demonstrate that Rob and Kristen were sharing clothes and jewelry and sending secret messages to their in-the-know fans.

[quote]I got sick of the JoeMyGod commenting echo chamber and don't visit that anymore either.

I see a variety of opinions about JMG here, but it's clear that his little-or-no comment moderation policy has let a handful of low information narcissists dominate the comment section, and that's too bad. I want thoughtful discussion, not self-absorbed tribalism.

DL scores pretty well in comparison.

by Anonymousreply 156March 24, 2018 9:36 PM

R156 there is some of that but I feel it's less so than two/three years ago

by Anonymousreply 157March 24, 2018 9:57 PM

Who is the dipshit “fact checking” mentioned websites against people’s perceptions/opinions on this thread?

A: “I think X about X website so I stopped visiting it.”

****runs over to website mentioned

***runs back to DL

B: “I just visited X website and I don’t see X today.”

by Anonymousreply 158March 24, 2018 10:10 PM

R151, it's telling that it was happening even to sites like TLo's. They talk almost exclusively fashion They're pretty apolitical, aside from generally being pro-diversity and inclusion. And they strictly moderate their comments section. Yet they were targeted.

No wonder so many silly blind item like CDAN (and increasingly BlindGossip) and other frivolous sites have been overrun with deplorables.

Clickbait headlines galore, constant sucking of Target's candy-striped dick and IKEA's Swedish balls, and if I see ONE more post on Chip and Joanna Gaines, I'm running amuck. I just wish I could find a design blog that was more like the old AT.

by Anonymousreply 162March 24, 2018 11:40 PM

A solid point, R162.

It's a cultural shift, too. I think maybe we all thought it was just the DL that was being cunty, but in context, we were part of a bigger shift.

I don't know if this is a political/cultural shift, or if we've reached the point with Web 2.0 or Web 3.0 or whatever we're on...where spaces that use to be novel, new and community based have now become mainstream, co-opted and watered down, overrun with the lowest common denominator.

by Anonymousreply 163March 24, 2018 11:43 PM

JoeMyGod is absolutely drama queen central. And it used to always crash my browsers. Full of bugs.

by Anonymousreply 164March 24, 2018 11:44 PM

CDAN gets another vote. Enty got exposed a couple of years ago; he's no entertainment lawyer. Also every week on that site its the same trope: someone's on drugs, someone's cheating and the pedophile story of the week. The legal disclaimer at the very bottom of the page basically states that everything posted on that site IS fiction. But the dead giveaway to that site's utter bullshit are the blinds that are posted about someone AFTER the same story is posted by news sites on the web.

Deadline/Variety/THR post the same stories. If you've been to one you've been to all three. In fact this is a problem all over the web. One site posts a story, twenty other sites copy said story. All just to get clicks.

"where spaces that use to be novel, new and community based have now become mainstream, co-opted and watered down, overrun with the lowest common denominator." R163 nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 165March 25, 2018 12:02 AM

OP I agree about Huffington Post. It was a progressive force up until Ariana Huffington sold the new site to AOL. Over the last several years it has become a shell of itself. It's mostly fluff pieces. The powerfull and comprehensive journalism is long gone. I believe AOL purchased it for the purpose of diminish it and eventually killing it.

by Anonymousreply 166March 25, 2018 12:07 AM

Huffington Post sold its soul to the AOL devil. Nothing but political clickbait and fluffy frau content. Hard to believe it used to be somewhat relevant.

The AV Club after switching the comment format. Was it clique-y? Yes. But it was still a community with some great discussions and humor. It had been shifting to a shitty Gawker-style format for about a year prior to the big switch, but now it’s just a garbage dump of stale news where the freelancer writers start fights with the few remaining commenters. Reminds me of TWOP/Fametracker’s last days.

Jezebel has been and shall forever be the worst site in the history of the internet.

by Anonymousreply 169March 25, 2018 2:20 AM

JMG is full of adware pop ups from ads on the site (Amazon gift cards) and the site constantly reloads as people comment. It’s unfortunate because it’s a good site. It just needs to be tightened up admin-wise, especially when it comes to the eldergay garden party holding court and talking as nauseum about pets and the aches and pains of elder life.

by Anonymousreply 170March 25, 2018 2:52 AM

The Advocate printed an article by Michael Lucas defending pedophiles and that was the last issue I looked at. Never again.

Qweerty printed some defense of Chi Chi LaRue, and that was the last time I intentionally looked at it. Too many links here go to Qweerty IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 171March 25, 2018 3:34 AM

Atkol. Hehe, just kidding. It died it’s final death over a year ago. May it RIP, in its day there was some good gossip on there but because it required you to be authenticated you could easily be bullied by the Mean Girls there.

I liked Tom and Lorenzo when it was still Project Rungay. I don’t know something now reeks of fake paternalistic white guilt now. They’re always OVERLY praising black female celebrities. Like overboard. They creamed in their pants when reviewing The Black Panther too, every other sentence was something like “we can’t pretend to understand how important this movie is for black people” and then proceed to tell us how imprtant this movie is for black people. Do they even bother to cover Project Runway anymore?

Perezhilton. I stopped going years ago and I was a big fan of the site. But when he destroyed Christina Aguilera’s Bionic album to the point of obsession, all in order to promote Lady Gaga, I knew he had become just a shill. Then he tried to sell himself as an anti bully, but meanwhile he spent MONTHS writing mean spirited articles about Aguilera’s album. Plus what’s all that other shit on the site now, Fit Perez, Coco Perez, etc.

by Anonymousreply 172March 25, 2018 3:50 AM

I almost gave up on Datalounge because of the unrelenting flood of conservative propaganda, including gay-bashing and the constant demonization of progressives and whining against "SJWs" from hypocritical trolls and self-haters with too much time or Putin money behind them.

But now that red tags are back, I'm hopeful.

All the Breitbart, Trump campaign and Yiannopolous money came from foreign dictators so there's no use pretending the Republican agenda benefits all Americans.

[quote]Towleroad. The first gay website that I viewed on a regular basis. Back then it seemed okay. But as time went on I could see that it was the epitome of being shallow and bland. Another Far Left soulless website. Has turned into a snoozefest.

That describes 95 percent of gay social media. Throw on some photos of hot white dudes--and on occasion an Asian or Black bodybuilder/athlete. Every other a day add a story about Gus and his creepy-lookalike boyfriend or the light-skinned snow queen wrestler that just came out. Sprinkle in some politics. Add something socially conscious about racism in the gay community. Then the obligatory "How to seduce a straight guy" post--followed by comments from gays who've fucked plenty of "straight boys." Possibly, an interview with some inane gay Instaho and finally, a post on some shitty queer gender-bending dance group.

Another vote for Deadline after Nikki . Now it is just the same PR flackopaloozza press releases as everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 176March 25, 2018 10:47 AM

[quote]The Advocate printed an article by Michael Lucas defending pedophiles and that was the last issue I looked at. Never again.

Off topic, but related to this quote. I gave up on Salon years ago, but every now and then I visit. They had an article about an admitted pedophile who had never acted on his urges. His whole argument was that he didn't choose to be attracted to children and as long as he didn't prey on any child, he saw no reason to hide his orientation. He was a fairly young guy, mid twenties if I recall.

I have to admit it was a pretty interesting article if creepy as he admitted developing feelings for a 5 year old girl that lived in his neighborhood (or something like that). He moved away so as not to be around her.

There are conservatives that hate-read Salon so there were a lot of comments about the "regressive left" and advocating for pedophiles.

by Anonymousreply 177March 25, 2018 11:28 AM

still cant believe that right winger fuk was able to shut down Gawker.

by Anonymousreply 178March 25, 2018 11:34 AM

HuffPo was over when they changed to Queer Voices. I won’t be referred to by a slur.

Pink News is just all trans all the time. Tedious hyperbole.

by Anonymousreply 179March 25, 2018 11:37 AM

[quote]There are conservatives that hate-read Salon so there were a lot of comments about the "regressive left" and advocating for pedophiles.

You don't have to be "conservative" to know that the left is now a "regressive left." It is. That is why these sites are unreadable now.

And the regressive left IS advocating for pedophiles. A similar article was in the NY Times. It will be another letter for LGBTQQTII++ .

by Anonymousreply 180March 25, 2018 11:45 AM

[quote]And the regressive left IS advocating for pedophiles.

Conservatives have been saying that since the beginning of the gay rights movement.

by Anonymousreply 181March 25, 2018 11:49 AM

The Advocates sex guru editor is a very judgemental, ideological die who tells people how they should have sex. He recently wrote an article defending "pozzing" as a fetish. Sexual promiscuity, fisting, cumdumps, anonymous sex, public sex, water sports, polyamorous relationships are all great things that are applauded. Monogamy and vanilla sex are mocked. It's definitely a level of sexual superiority from The Advocate editorial board

by Anonymousreply 183March 25, 2018 11:54 AM

[quote]Conservatives have been saying that since the beginning of the gay rights movement.

Really? I have been politically aware for a long time, and I have only heard this term in recent years. It really doesn't matter who says it, the "left" IS regressive now. They aggressively support anti-gay and anti-women ideologies. That IS regressive.

by Anonymousreply 184March 25, 2018 11:56 AM

[quote]They aggressively support anti-gay and anti-women ideologies.

By which, I presume you mean they advocate for equality and respect for trans people and are against racism. the Left has always advocated along those lines. And they've always advocated for equality and respect for gay people. Even when they were accused by conservatives of supporting pedophilia and mentally ill degenerates for doing so. Plus ça change.

by Anonymousreply 185March 25, 2018 12:01 PM

No, R185 - I did not say anything about racism. Why do you seek to mischaracterize my comment?

Transgender is an ideology that is ensaring gay young people, tomboys etc. They aren't "transgender" but are being told they are by this ideology and political push behind it. That is not about equality and respect for gay people. That is about wiping gay people and the whole concept of gay. That is deeply and dangerously homophobic. It is also actually, like the extreme right-wing fundie nutjobs , totally anti-science. A man cannot change into a woman.

by Anonymousreply 186March 25, 2018 12:09 PM

a 2005 episode of law and order I'm watchin says it was directed by Martha Mitchell. I knew she had talent !

by Anonymousreply 187March 25, 2018 12:10 PM

R185 equality for all people is laudable. If a trans person’s idea of equality comes at the expense of other people’s right to safety and privacy that is not equal. Here’s a novel thought - biological women are people with rights too.

by Anonymousreply 188March 25, 2018 12:13 PM

R190, the right to changing rooms and bathrooms in peace and safety, R190. I am sure you heard about that one. The right to have women's sports, with women competing against women, the right to express an opinion without censorship, the right to gather without harassment, the existence of women's positions in the Labour party in the UK, the right to be protected from harassment in old age homes, etc. It is changing every day as this misogynistic, homophobic, child-abusing movement seeks to chip away at any rights and protection gained by women, gay people, and children.

by Anonymousreply 193March 25, 2018 12:29 PM

[quote]the right to changing rooms and bathrooms in peace and safety

Which was one of the right's common objections to gay people.

[quote]the right to express an opinion without censorship

Which is also what homophobes say when they can't be homophobic.

[quote]the existence of women's positions in the Labour party in the UK

The Labour Party were publicly advocating for gay rights decades before it was politically expedient for them to do so.

by Anonymousreply 194March 25, 2018 12:33 PM

R193 what about straight men who have to share bathrooms with gay men?

by Anonymousreply 195March 25, 2018 12:35 PM

R194, you completely ignored what I said, the reality of it, and the realty of this anti-gay anti-women push by trans ideology.

by Anonymousreply 196March 25, 2018 12:36 PM

I agree about GoFugYourself. They've been phoning it in for awhile now, and they don't even bother reviewing fashion shows anymore. Too bad because both women are clever. Maybe they should just stick to traveling around Europe and writing chick lit.

The stuff they used to write about JLo was priceless.

by Anonymousreply 197March 25, 2018 12:36 PM

r196 You completely ignore the obvious parallels between your arguments and those of homophobic conservatives.

by Anonymousreply 198March 25, 2018 12:38 PM

That is a homophobic comparison, R195. Are you trying to start a campaign where straight men can keep homosexuals out of bathrooms?

Straight men are not going to get pregnant by gay men. Men are known to spy on women with cameras, to flash, to attack rape, etc women. This has been known forever and that is why women want bathrooms for women. To play dumb over this is deeply misogynistic.

by Anonymousreply 199March 25, 2018 12:39 PM

There is nothing more homophobic and extreme right-wing than the trans ideology which supports sexism, homophobia and a gay cleanse. A boy is playing with a doll? Quick! Call him a girls's name, then get him on puberty blockers and and cut off body parts and/or give him fake breasts. That is INSANELY homophobic and sexist.

by Anonymousreply 200March 25, 2018 12:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 202March 25, 2018 12:46 PM

R199 you are right, I totally forgot about the epidemic of trans women going into the women's restroom raping and impregnating women. You know, the real epidemic not the one that is just in your mind.

by Anonymousreply 203March 25, 2018 12:53 PM

R199 gay men are known to spy on straight men with cameras, to flash, to hit on straight men in locker rooms. Straight men deserve privacy and safe spaces. I think we should ban all gay men from Men's restrooms and lockers. They can have their own rooms.

by Anonymousreply 204March 25, 2018 12:56 PM

No, [R185] - I did not say anything about racism. Why do you seek to mischaracterize my comment?

This is what many many media outlets do to vilify and mischaracterize to oversimplify issues, so it becomes a common way for the regressive left to argue a point. Watch how this interviewer and how she tries over and over again to misconstrue what the author is saying with gross over generalizations to make him seem like a sexist bigot.

So what you’re saying....🙄

by Anonymousreply 207March 25, 2018 1:19 PM

Look at R204, the trans wanting to start a campaign against gay men. Isn't the crap that is being done to kids suspected of being gay enough?

by Anonymousreply 208March 25, 2018 2:35 PM

R203, MEN have attacked, raped and impregnated women. You pretend this doesn't happen? That is a lot of pretending you have to do.

"Gender identity" means ANY man can claim to be a woman an enter spaces like changing rooms and bathrooms. Of course this is what some men who wish to be exhibitionist and /or attack women want. It is a gift for them. And of course some will be "trans" - a lot are straight men with a fetish.

by Anonymousreply 212March 25, 2018 2:51 PM

Go Fug Yourself and Dlisted had roughly the same trajectory.

They both did that great sort of affectionately poking fun at people, not cruelly but in a way that was actually kind of sweet. I loved GFY profiling the Peldon sisters, Z list actresses who would show up to the opening of an envelope. And as mentioned above, Michael K writing about people like Rojo Caliente and Hot Sluts of the Day, etc.

But now both chase page hits and are, I believe, owned by other media outlets. So yeah, both have outlived their shelf life.

All I’m going to say is Sparkle fans think the DL is being rough on her, they should count themselves lucky that she isn’t Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The comments on her various activities are downright vicious. It’s not just snark, it’s pure hatred. The fact that it even trickles down to her young children shows what cunts they really are. One poster said their oldest son (probably all of ten years old or so) is an inbred autistic blockhead.

by Anonymousreply 218March 25, 2018 4:09 PM

The trans push has a lot of money behind it, both private donors (mostly LGBT men) and Big Pharma/Medicine.

Almost guaranteed that sites like Pink News and other LGBTQPA2S+++ sites are getting some of the trans funding, but I'm guessing also Huff Post, Jezebel, Celebitchy are receiving money. And guess which site deletes or closes almost every single trans-discussion thread?

Who Are the Rich, White Men Institutionalizing Transgender Ideology? Exceedingly rich, white men (and women) who invest in biomedical companies are funding myriad transgender organizations whose agenda will make them gobs of money.I found exceedingly rich, white men with enormous cultural influence are funding the transgender lobby and various transgender organizations. These include but are not limited to Jennifer Pritzker (a male who identifies as transgender); George Soros; Martine Rothblatt (a male who identifies as transgender and transhumanist)...Most of these billionaires fund the transgender lobby and organizations through their own organizations, including corporations...

These men and others, including pharmaceutical companies and the U.S. government, are sending millions of dollars to LGBT causes. Overall reported global spending on LGBT is now estimated at $424 million. From 2003-2013, reported funding for transgender issues increased more than eightfold, growing at threefold the increase of LGBTQ funding overall, which quadrupled from 2003 to 2012. This huge spike in funding happened at the same time transgenderism began gaining traction in American culture.

$424 million is a lot of money. Is it enough to change laws, uproot language and force new speech on the public, to censor, to create an atmosphere of threat for those who do not comply with gender identity ideology?

Transgenderism: A New Medical and Lifestyle Market It seems obvious now to look at the money behind transgenderism. Many new markets have opened because of it. The first gender clinic for children opened in Boston in 2007. In the past ten years, more than 30 clinics for children with purported gender dysphoria have arisen in the United States alone, the largest serving 725 patients.

Over the past decade, there has been an explosion in transgender medical infrastructure across the United States and world to “treat” transgender people. In addition to gender clinics proliferating across the United States, hospital wings are being built for specialized surgeries, and many medical institutions are clamoring to get on board with the new developments.

Doctors are being trained in cadaver symposiums across the world in all manner of surgeries related to transgender individuals, including phalloplasty, vaginoplasty, facial feminization surgery, urethral procedures, and more. More and more American corporations are covering transgender surgeries, drugs, and other expenses. Endocrinologists seeking the fountain of youth in hormones for more than a generation, and the subsequent earnings for marketing those hormones, are still on a quest for gold.

Puberty blockers are another growing market. The plastic surgery arm of medicine is staged for an infusion of cash as well as organ transplants, especially womb transplants for men identifying as women who may want future pregnancies. These surgeries are already being practiced on animals and the first successful womb implant from a deceased female donor to another female has already been a success. Biogenetics is poised to be the investment of the future, says Rothblatt, who has headed a massive pharmaceutical corporation and is now heavily invested in biogenetics and transplants.

Full right wing article at right wing site. Clearly, r219 hasn't given up on sites aimed at hysterical right wing white men.

PS - check out their pro-John Bolton article on his "years of experience and leadership", it's a doozy!!!

by Anonymousreply 220March 25, 2018 5:15 PM

R220, can you dispute the facts presented in the article at R219? If not, STFU.

Had you read the article, you would see that, far from being "right-wing" the author is an environmental activist.

And, guess what, R220? Radical feminists have allied with conservative women to oppose the trans' push to give dangerous hormones and puberty blockers to children, and to allow men to invade women's spaces, women's athletics, and women's medicine.

The group of women from across the politics spectrum who oppose the trans agenda is called Hands Across the Aisle and Miriam Ben Shalom - that RABID RIGHT WINGER - is a prominent member.

Here is the beginning of the article at R219. Note that the author talks about the media push of the trans agenda, which is most noticeable at LGBTQA2SP+++ sites like the Advocate and Pink News:

[quote]As an environmental activist who was deplatformed from a speaking venue by transactivists, in 2013 I developed curiosity about the power of this group to force this development. A year later, when Time magazine announced a transgender tipping point on its cover, I had already begun to examine the money behind the transgender project.

I have watched as all-women’s safe spaces, universities, and sports opened their doors to any man who chose to identify as a woman. Whereas men who identify as transwomen are at the forefront of this project, women who identify as transmen seem silent and invisible. I was astonished that such a huge cultural change as the opening of sex-protected spaces was happening at such a meteoric pace and without consideration for women and girls’ safety, deliberation, or public debate.

Concurrent with these rapid changes, I witnessed an overhaul in the English language with new pronouns and a near-tyrannical assault on those who did not use them. Laws mandating new speech were passed. Laws overriding biological sex with the amorphous concept of gender identity are being instituted now. People who speak openly about these changes can find themselves, their families, and their livelihoods threatened.

These elements, along with media saturation of the issue, had me wondering: Is this really a civil rights issue for a tiny part of the population with body dysphoria, or is there a bigger agenda with moneyed interests that we are not seeing? This article can only begin to graze the surface of this question, but considering transgenderism has basically exploded in the middle of capitalism, which is notorious for subsuming social justice movements, there is value in beginning this examination.

by Anonymousreply 226March 25, 2018 5:40 PM

Well here you go, R222, on topic for both, here is a Reddit thread of more than a thousand people, a good % of whom are lesbians, complaining about being de-platformed (and sexually harassed) by trans activists across internet sites, including Reddit itself.

And it's not just about fucking bathrooms, but, since you're here, R222, perhaps you can tell us how an 11-year-old girl is supposed to tell whether the naked man standing in front of her in her pool's locker room is "non-binary" or just a plain old, garden-variety sex offender?

Trans and other bs is a big reason people gave up on those websites.

by Anonymousreply 229March 25, 2018 5:48 PM

I used to love reading gay blogs when personal blogs were all the rage. It was a form of harmless voyeurism. I used to find Towleroad entertaining back when it was more personal, before it became just another dull, lifeless LGBTXYZ website with a million ads fighting for space on the screen.

One of the most entertaining gay blogs I ever read was I Probably Hate You. The blogger was a guy named Rocco and he was completely unfiltered, reckless, and BRUTAL in his takedown of other gay blogs, including JoeMyGod, Towleroad, and many other long forgotten ones. Ironically he is now happily married to his longtime boyfriend and is a doting father to their son.

I also loved one called Bill In Exile, which started as a correspondence blog between Scott and his friend Bill, who was incarcerated for dealing drugs. The blog evolved into other topics and Scott was as entertaining as Rocco with his direct, unfiltered opinions.

by Anonymousreply 230March 25, 2018 5:49 PM

Another vote for Tom and Lorenzo. They seem to have given up and the ads are terrible! If you are on the fence listen to their podcasts. Insufferable. Never again. Agree on TMZ and Perez. They seem like from another time at this point. Zap2it used to be good, but someone ruined it.

by Anonymousreply 231March 25, 2018 5:58 PM

Radar is the worst mainstream site on the web. Hands down.

TMZ is a close second. Wonder if we will ever see what's on pig-bottom's infamous servers.

Gawker was probably the best website in history, in terms of tea and receipts. Media just hasn't been the same.

MSNBC website is clunky and sparse.

CNN.com is all trump, all the time.

Huffpost is a waste of cpu

Axios is always breaking news but I have never been to that site, and am not familiar with who puts it out.

The country could use a couple of new websites that do actual journalism. There is a huge hole in the market. All of the current websites ALL POST THE SAME EXACT STORIES OVER AND OVER and don't have their own voice.

Think about all of the news topics that don't get covered because you-know-who sucks up all the air.

We also need more local and regional reporting. Corruption grows and multiplies when there is no strong media nearby.

On the other hand, this opens up a huge opportunity for responsible and educated citizens to go in and do the reporting themselves. All you need is a smartphone and a blog. People want to talk to reporters, they want to blow the whistle, but there is nobody to blow it to anymore.

It's up to the young people of this country to ask questions and get the answers. The right person could make a fortune if they took journalism into their own hands. Look at Ted Turner. He started with a simple set-up. Start on the local access or start your own website.

Be fair, be brave, and most importantly: get the receipts.

Yes. No one pays for journalism any more. Most gay sites have maybe one or two employees and 95 percent of their output is just aggregating.....rewriting stories from other major sites, with a sentence that somehow adds the gay perspective.

Blew it. Occupied a unique niche in the market as the only non-porn, masc black gay site with smart, funny and fearless opinion. But couldn’t be assed to post regularly, letting whole months go by with fuck all. Or just relying on their message board. At their best they were fucking great tho

by Anonymousreply 255March 26, 2018 3:18 PM

JMG Is loaded with ads with adware pop ups that force you to constantly close your browser window and clear your browser history. I’d be able to retire if I’d actually won all the Amazon gift cards the pop ups claim I’ve won. 🙄

Also when people post it reloads the entire page so if you are reading comments you have to scroll all the way through the entire thread and find where you were.

Lots of people complained but of nothing has been done so people started installing ad blockers. Now that it is affecting revenue Joe is doing something about it.

by Anonymousreply 256March 26, 2018 4:00 PM

This sounds so benign but when the Weather Channel stopped letting me use adblock, I was out of there. They put so many crazy ass ads that freeze my browser and slow down my pc - it was ridiculous - and my pc is only a year old. Now, they just try to guilt you to turn off your adblock off when you visit (which everyone seems to be doing), which I WOULD do if they just toned it down. Like 2 static ads maybe? Weather Underground isn't like this, but I got used to the Weather Channel format.

I will not read Forbes either due to the invasive ads - the auto-run movie ads, flying animated ads, etc... fuck that. Their content isn't that special once your screen stops flickering & you can read it.

Did Joe Jervis actually say something like his revenue is down and he is going to prevent ad blockers from working on the new site? I just went to the blog and I don’t see anything like that, unless he deleted it.

by Anonymousreply 266March 26, 2018 6:54 PM

The Daily Mail. It used to be a light fun read. Now it’s just depressing: an endless parade of the most tawdry and crass specimens of humanity. I think it presents a very interesting case in how a finely tuned balance can go off without cardful attention to tone.

Vanity Fair Graydon lost touch years ago and should have been dumped then, but the new editor is a disaster. It’s become exactly what it was before Tina rescued it and shot it full of champagne: a similar serious dirge.

BBC The plummet in standards has been extraordinary. There was a story on there today about Kim K that referred to her ‘boobs’ and ‘Photshopped’. Lord Reith would be spinning in his grave.

Forbes turned into a Huffington Post-type site sometime back. It's basically an aggregator now and IIRC accepts posts from randoms. I think it got sold to some foreign investor.

by Anonymousreply 277March 26, 2018 9:18 PM

I used to love suck.com but it got shut down during the internet crash I think. It's been awhile. They had great writers. Funny that I don't really remember the topics. Polly Esther was the pseudonym of a good poster there, who made the rabbit blog.com later (which originally was called tiny little penis). Heather Havilasky or something? I know she writes elsewhere now but there was something about the combination of posts and the funny graphics and the mix of writers that made suck hilarious. There was a site after that called plastic.com, that disappeared at some point, that was also good. Was an aggregator site I think. It, too, died during the Internet crash.

by Anonymousreply 278March 26, 2018 9:27 PM

This thread, with its slams at the joemygod site, got me thinking... I had swapped emails with him years ago and if memory served, it was because Datalounge had a thread about him and his cock.

i just searched my email and sure enough, back 2012, someone had posted pics of Jervis naked, guys within the thread said his cock was photoshopped. Reviewing the emails, Joe told me the pics at that time were 10 years old (from 2002) and from his manhunt profile.

I vaguely recall the photos of "Sarge" as he called himself online and yea, the hairy chest and big cock were impressive and very attractive.

That man has definitely aged (haven't we all), but he's aged poorly - I don't think he hits the gym any longer and has become a sedintary blogger (locked away in his NYC apt for too many hours a day)... unfortunate - he was very, very sexy for many years.

by Anonymousreply 279March 26, 2018 9:49 PM

R232 To be honest I'm kind of suspicious about Axios too. And I've read a few articles there that misstate facts - not because I think the writer had an agenda, but because hey didn't understand what they were writing about to know that they weren't comparing two equal things (the main culprit is the "social media" writer). And there's just something... Off about the site's posts that don't sit right with me. I can't describe it exactly but I feel like it's either pushing an agenda or is being set up to push an agenda in the future.

Business Insider is a site I liked temporarily until I learned who owned it. And they have articles on there all the time now about bitcoin - they are actively trying to destroy it, not sure why, but there's an obvious agenda. Any fluctuation or negative article on cryptocurrency gets reposted or summarised. Daily articles on it.

by Anonymousreply 280March 26, 2018 9:56 PM

I don't trust Axios either and I can't even tell you why. I just know I disregard their articles on twitter.

by Anonymousreply 281March 26, 2018 10:00 PM

[quote]And there's just something... Off about the site's posts that don't sit right with me. I can't describe it exactly but I feel like it's either pushing an agenda or is being set up to push an agenda in the future

This applies to so many sites. You can tell it is propaganda, though no one really knows for sure why it is being pushed.

by Anonymousreply 282March 26, 2018 10:00 PM

I can usually tell over time with agenda-driven sites. I just haven't figured out Axios's game yet. It's a feeling, which I am usually right about, that something isn't quite Chippewa about it. I liked their format at first, but something about the site is just triggering my "wrong" sensors.

by Anonymousreply 283March 26, 2018 10:06 PM

Another one who used to think pretty well of Metafilter. It was always well to the left, like me on most issues, though civil, but not without its sanctimony. One key policy, which they enforced pretty well was that you could critique the position, no the person. And there used to be severe limits on posts about something someone thought to be an outrage, furious trans person, ultra-masculine trans woman not allowed into a gym, and all that changed. About all those posts got deleted.

The founder left, a mod was promoted and things changed. The new sheriff in town enjoyed showing off his shiny badge and playing with his big, shiny gun.

Along came posts of outrage, largely related to things trans; tolerance of scorched-earth comments from people with zero interest of being part of a community that had respect for half-way intelligent differing views, special rules for special people, people quickly banned for not toeing the line, etc. A number of long-time members of the community commented that it became much smaller (in terms of perspective), nastier, intolerant. But of course they were wrong.

It got to be a caricature of people who demand tolerance with a fierce intolerance.

It was striking to see the people in charge suddenly willing to put up with rabid nastiness from those with the right opinions and hostility toward those who dared to -- gasp! -- disagree with the view or the attitudes. The community was built to some fair degree on a refusal to put up with childish, argumentative vitriol.

You many not surprised to learn a notable number of intelligent, reasonable, community-oriented people responded to the duplicitous, my-way-or-the-highway approach by leaving. I swing by from time to time, occasionally see an interesting post and collection of comments about music or some quirky thing in history, but the number of comments, diversity of opinion has gone through the floor. That part of the site is a shell of its former self.

That's a real shame; it seems the net is not up to its neck in sites where a diversity of perspectives is tolerated -- assuming its not bigoted nastiness or trashing people you disagree with -- and intelligent, articulate people bring a mammoth range of perspectives.

by Anonymousreply 285March 26, 2018 10:27 PM

The convo is on the thread about the Live Stormy Daniels video on 60 Minutes from 3/25

JoeMyGod a day ago OT: While we wait on the sportsball thingie, just an alert that we'll be tweaking the template a bit over the next few days to try and improve the "viewability" of the ads as the rev has been plummeting for several reasons including ad blockers and the change in the Facebook feed algorithm. Anyway, don't freak if things look temporarily different.

He talks with some people about it down the thread if you look for it

by Anonymousreply 286March 26, 2018 10:29 PM

Anyone here have their own blog or site, or know about running one? I'm curious about the ads. If someone buys the space on your site, how much control does the site owner have over the type of advertising? I have no problem with someone wanting/needing ad revenue, but the loud autoplay video ads that are often impossible to find and mute/stop and slow down the rest of the site demonstrate a real disrespect for readers. Is it possible to limit ads to images/links or videos that either must be affirmatively played or easy to stop/mute?

by Anonymousreply 287March 26, 2018 10:31 PM

Yeah JMG threads are super OT. The past few days the threads have been hijacked by discussions about first birds seen in the yard this spring, pets, and people announcing and giving condolences for deaths in the family. Those topics are fine but when everyone has to chime in it gets tedious for those there to read and discuss the issue at hand.

by Anonymousreply 288March 26, 2018 10:33 PM

R287 yes they can choose which ad networks they use. But a lot of times they don't choose the specific ads; they just can block them from a specific site (usually) if they see them and take the time to do it, which is harder to do due to retargeting (the ads that follow you from site to site). Every experience is customized now, basically. Some ad networks allow you to choose which types of ads you run, text ads vs. media ads vs. ads with JavaScript and video in them, but not all of them.

Usually the sites like DL have problems getting mainstream ad networks because of the porn and content, and when you have to use the less mainstream ad providers that don't mind porn and similar content, the quality of the ads starts going swiftly downhill and that's when you get shit like autoplay or spam ads.

Promoted posts are a good way to do it but you usually have to be a bigger site to get those as they involve 1:1 work with the ad buyer.

The whole industry is in flux at the moment. Selling memberships or Patreon in exchange for bonus content seems to be the current way to go, like how Talkingpostmemo does it. Sites that use ad blocker blockers or have majority gated content I think are just shooting themselves in the foot.

I ran a gay news blog several years ago. The thing you soon learn is that it’s punishing work if you want to turn out anything of a high standard & takes tens of hours. My numbers were building every week, but it’s true that mainstream ad netwoks simply aren’t interested.

The whole ad thing puzzles me. I’ve never clicked on an internet ad and don’t know who has. The only way ads actually have a chance of working IMHO is if they are crafted as site advertorials by the site owner themselves.

As for gay issues: I think there’s a massive gay silent majority who don’t give a flying fuck for trans stuff, or even marriage - only being vaguely interested in it as an equality marker. For anyone who grew up in the Seventies, the parenting ads resemble happy pedo ads: after all the hysteria, it’s nice to see them have their day in the sun. I do wonder what will be the next nutty ‘gay’ issue.

by Anonymousreply 300March 27, 2018 3:42 AM

Back in the day, when it was good, Salon had a feature called "Table Talk" that was really terrific - a whole range of dozens of threads of every description, with actual intelligent commentary, not like today. Good book/movie threads and plenty of gay threads as well. David Ehrenstein used to post there, until about 2000 or so, when he signed off, saying "I'll be at the Datalounge, folks" - I had never heard of Datalounge, but I found it, and the rest is history. So I owe him for that much -

Oh No They Didn't. The continued slow death of Livejournal is what killed this community. But it was truly the BEST pop culture community blog 10-12 years ago. Jesus, the hours per day I used to spend there. Now simply out of habit I still scroll through the day's posts but that's it and it takes all of 60 seconds. I don't even read comments anymore. There's barely any interesting commenters and Twitter kinda monopolized the instant entertainment news "community hot take" angle that ONTD thrived on. It's last good period was maybeeee 2012.

True R17. I understand why Tybee allows that troll to post there but that's because MPC/Erna is one of the main posters there along with troll PPSM who lurks there and sometimes posts. Tybee isn't bad but most feel the same way we do so they stop going or just rarely visit. Even Roger octopus stopped posting there.

BBC News. They slashed the stories on their homepage to the bone. Wrong move. As Drudge & the Daily Mail proved, people are greedy and want more, not less.

Daily Mail: used to be a great trashy read, but is now publishing a lot of stuff that shouldn’t be there: seriously off stories about profoundly dysfunctional people, rather than just the mildly dyfunctional that were funny. It really needs tighter editorial control.

Towel Road was interesting for a short time, then it just turned to crap, also pop ups never help a site.

Reddit, specifically their news and TIL subreddits. I am so sick of the comment sections that go ridiculously off topic. And I'm not talking about a couple of random comments, I'm talking about scrolling through hundreds of comments only tangentially related to the subject at hand, while looking for a SINGLE relevant comment. Why not put the off topic shit at the bottom of the page, not the front?

by Anonymousreply 360January 22, 2019 6:18 AM

You can get the view image button back again. Google how to do it, it was so long ago I don't remember what the trick was but it was easy. It may have taken one minute, maybe less.

Who the fuck here is posting links to The Federalist? Go away conservative troll.

by Anonymousreply 362January 22, 2019 1:05 PM

Does anyone know the website PressGram.com ?

by Anonymousreply 363February 3, 2019 10:16 AM

R360 I hear you on reddit. I used to read the unresolved mysteries section but then the same unresolved murders or disappearances get written about all the time. People go completely off topic, and they completely believe the BS Amanda Knox and her PR Team claimed and believe Amanda and her ex are innocent. Way too many topics are just ads for a podcast, blog, or copy/paste articles and wikipedia pages.

I think the queen choked on one of his own Stefano Ricci neckties. Loved his website when he was blogging.

BoingBoing: outrage culture, thousand year bans for not being around when the publisher messages you, no punishment for trolls if they aren't anti-Semitic and attack female-presenting accounts.

thestranger: outrage culture, stupid moderation, doesn't pay its writing/editorial staff adequately

CNN: autoplay media unrelated to what I want to read is an instant turn-off.

r366 Fascinating!

by Anonymousreply 367February 15, 2019 10:43 PM

I’m not going through the whole thread to see if anyone else said this, but I’ve given up on Vulture since they put up the paywall. I spent nearly a hour there every day and was on top of all things pop culture. I even put up with their over spammed comments for years beacuse I enjoyed the discussions. But I’m not going to pay for it and I don’t seem to be missing it much, but I don’t know what’s going on anymore, especially TV wise.

R368 I read vulture sometimes and haven't experienced a paywall. What I have noticed, over the last year, is a complete inability to view comments. I personally enjoyed their reader discussions, especially when the writer would chime in, now I see nothing. I visit much less often because of that.

Outsports has become a transjacked (literally tun by them now) apologist for the likes of Rachel McKinnon —who is actually given a platform to justify his cheating over natal women. Absolutely trans should get a voice—even though it’s only ever one type of TRA apporived opinion that is ever allowed; and never the many thoughtful gender critical or dissenting trans voices who are silenced and demonised—but the contrary opinion—often lesbians—needs to be heard for balance, otherwise it’s just propaganda. And Outsports is indeed now officially a TRA propaganda arm, yes covering “queer” issues but centering the trans

Celebitchy. I used to read it every morning, but haven’t for months now. Whoever writes it is clearly insane.. If I want to be lectured to, told how to think or feel, read ridiculous garbage about the saviour of mankind Markle, I could find much better sites than that. This woman has lost touch with reality, I think. She’s going to die on the Markle sword. What used to be a useful website has become an unpleasant joke.

by Anonymousreply 372February 16, 2019 11:17 AM

Huff Poo ever since they changed the LGB section to queer and focus way too much on Trans issues, and issues which women face.

Why can't they just have separate sections for trans issues and women's issues instead of lumping them in with gay and bisexual men and women?

by Anonymousreply 373February 16, 2019 9:08 PM

Qwerty, it has been a joke for a long time. Same with most LGBT news blogs.

by Anonymousreply 374February 24, 2019 9:32 AM

Regarding Towleroad. Everything Michael Goff touches turns to shit.

by Anonymousreply 375February 24, 2019 10:25 AM

So, which LGBT website has remained consistent and worthy of our time? I suggest that JoeMyGod may not be everyone's cup of tea but it has been doing well and is one of the best sites around

by Anonymousreply 376February 24, 2019 11:09 AM

Long ago, Metafilter was a place for intelligent discussion of any topic under the sun. Then it became something of a liberal echo chamber, which made it much less interesting, and some of the more interesting people drifted or were driven away. Then it became a shrill place rigidly confined to current faddish doctrines of the left, where anyone who doesn't toe the line has their posts expuged, followed by their account if they're still naughty. It's dominated by a few overbearing personalities and is very boring now.

by Anonymousreply 377February 24, 2019 11:13 AM

Metafilter is the perfect example of how "politically correct" online culture ruins a website. You can't make an anonymous message board a safe space without sacrificing what makes it distinctive.

The Guardian has moved in that direction as well. I used to read it everyday. Now I'd prefer to read the Daily Mail... and I'm not an idiot or a deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 378February 24, 2019 11:18 AM

Jezebel has always been shit.

Lindy West, with her insufferable articles (some listed below) and her PROPENSITY TO WRITE IN ALL CAPS, didn't help.

"My Fart Will Go On"

"Golden Retriever Loves Watching Football SO FUCKING MUCH OH MY GOD"

"Finance Douche Throws Pee-Pants Tantrum After Being Rejected on Tinder"

"Lizzy Caplan Says She and James Marsden Are 'Not Dating'...OR ARE THEY"
