Barenaked Ladies Break-up Was So Bad, they have to be interviewed SEPARATELY
Barenaked Ladies will reunite with Steven Page for their induction in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Members will reunite with their original frontman and co-founder, Steven Page, for a one-time performance at the Junos on March 25.
However their is still bad blood between the group and lead singer Steven Page, who was ousted 10 years ago. So toxic that they need to be interviewed SEPARATELY!

I guess it doesn't take much to get into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. You have a couple of hits in the 90's and your pretty much guaranteed to get in.

Page got busted in NY for cocaine about ten years ago. It fucked up a contract they had just arranged with Disney. Although it seems like that may have been the catalyst, it was probably cumulative over time. My guess is they got tired of covering his ass, when it hit them in the pocketbooks. They are wealthy men though, so who knows.

I don’t give a fuck what happens to them because I will never forgive them for this abomination:

They have to be insanely rich from that obnoxious “Big Bang Theory” theme song alone. Why not just go away?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 23, 2018 6:35 PM

I thought that Big Bang song was They Might Be Giants. I learned something new today.
Barenaked Ladies make the kind of music that I can’t stand but good for them for selling their songs and concert tickets.

You might think that BNL plays mostly novelty songs, but you would be wrong. When they first started out, they had some amazing songs with wonderful depths. This is from their first album, and it has held up very well. The song is about how gender affects how people view us. It's a great song, and worth listening to. They were capable of greatness. I saw them just before their fist album came out at the Bottom Line in NYC -- opening for John Wesley Harding -- and it was the single best performance I have ever seen in my life, and I've seen thousands.

Remember when Steve Croft interviewed Don Henley and Glenn Frey about their bad blood for 60 Minutes? Don and Glenn were seated in a diner booth opposite Steve.
Steve: Since you two hate each other....
Glenn: Well, I wouldn’t say that....
Don: That’s not entirely accurate....
Steve: I’m sitting a foot away from you. Your body language is screaming that you can’t stand to be seated next to each other. You can’t even look at each other or say the other man’s name.
Glenn: ......
Don: ......
Steve: Back to my question: Since you two hate each other....
Can the BNL feud compare? Rock band feuds can make for hilarious TV.

Wow. that interview was not pretty at all. Page comes off pretty well, but the other guys seem still angry. I wonder what went down between them. Robertson was hot as fuck when he was younger; he has not aged that well.

Since they’re all straight guys, the issue is obviously money
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 23, 2018 7:18 PM

Why is Robertson holding such a grudge? Sounds like everybody else would be willing to think about reuniting...what’s his problem? BNL is missing something without Page’s harmonies; he sounds better solo than they do together,
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 23, 2018 7:25 PM

“What’s his problem?”
Money. He’s not getting as much as he thinks he is owed. It really is that simple. If he gets paid, the reunion happens tomorrow.

Robertson & Page were the biggest stars. For all his faults, Page is the nicer one. Back in the day the Barenaked Ladies had won a local competition (think star search). Years later when they made it big, only Steven Page would return to judge the competition (which wasn't televised, only the winner got airtime). He wasn't paid at all, there was no PR for him as this wasn't done for the cameras. He just wanted to show his appreciation.

BNL was music made for white girls with bob haircuts who worked in PR. First apartment in a big city. Roommates. And just put the BNLadies cd on while we curl the hair, apply the makeup and get ready to out and “kiss boys”! at bars called Thirsty Gingerbread, Shamus O’Malley’s and Bud’s 3 Corner Tap. If Brian wilson came on at the bar that night???? SHIT. Look out. “We’re gonna go DANCE!!!!”

They interviewed Steven and Ed separately because... they are living separate lives in separate places (Steven lives in Syracuse while BNL are stil based in Toronto). They aren’t reuniting until they meet in Vancouver for the awards.

Not this week as they are all in Vancouver right now. They are in the same place right now, but still insisted on SEPARATE interviews.

Their best songs are sang by Steven Page and aren’t necessary their hits. “What a Good Boy” is amazing. Any haters of the band just watch this performance.

R47. I was the guy who posted a link to Good Boy upstreams. It is an incredible song. Not a month goes by when I don't send a link to the video to a friend who hasnt heard it. It is an amazingly insightful song about gender.

Sorry to post again, but, listening to that song never fails to give me goose bumps.
I wake up scared, I wake up strange. I wake up wondering if anything in my life's gonna change. And...We've got these chains hanging around our necks, and people to strangle us with them before we take our first breath.
Please: to those on this tread who are casually dismissing them, listen to this song. Any group capable of this brilliance should not be so quickly dismissed. I do prefer the studio version to the live version.

Most of what’s silly and lame about BNL comes from Ed. Steven is a talented songwriter who doesn’t deserve to be thought of as a novelty act.

Bare Naked Ladies were really different and put out some good music in their day. A lot of witty novelty music including "Brian Wilson". I like them and have most of their hits but they've never been the same since their lead singer Steven Page left the group. Just a nostalgia group now.

Steven might have been the one who wrote the deeper and better songs, but, oddly enough, he was the one who clowned it up most on stage. He was the goofball you didnt take seriously, but it belied a talent for writing thoughtful songs.
