Let's be Netflix's new, hit docuseries, "Wild Wild Country"

I'll be Ma Anand Sheela saying, "tough titties" in a news broadcast.

by Anonymousreply 74August 3, 2018 3:04 AM

I'll be Ma Anand Puja disappearing from the doco atthe very end.

by Anonymousreply 1March 21, 2018 4:32 PM

I'll be Krishna Devi running to the cops and going into Witness Protection. Just WHAT did I tell them??

by Anonymousreply 2March 21, 2018 4:34 PM

I'll be the suburban soccer mom who posts inspirational quotes from Osho on Facebook without knowing that he was the leader of a cult. And a homophobe, too.

by Anonymousreply 3March 21, 2018 4:35 PM

I'll be the cult's lawyer, still glossing over the mass poisonings and threats to use firepower against innocent people. I have grown maudlin and wasted my entire life on worshipping an indian con man. My bok will probably never see publication.

by Anonymousreply 4March 21, 2018 4:40 PM

I'm maroon! Purple! Red! Lavender! Pink!

In acrylic and polyester!

r6, I just finished it an hour ago. Fantastic!

by Anonymousreply 7March 30, 2018 9:18 AM

OMG this was so good. I can't believe there isn't a 600 post DL thread about it.

by Anonymousreply 8April 2, 2018 4:52 PM

I'm the disco! $50 admission please

by Anonymousreply 9April 2, 2018 4:57 PM

I'm Susan Rice sitting there thinking YouTube videos are better than this.

by Anonymousreply 10April 2, 2018 8:42 PM

I am all the fabulous kaftans that Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh wears!

by Anonymousreply 11April 2, 2018 8:53 PM

I am a manipulated viewer. All documentaries come with a point of view, a take on reality. I know my documentary film history and theory. This one is entertaining and informative but its very loosy goosy about the way it uses music and also the tie ins the zeitgeist are filled with hyperbole. I am feeling very manipulated.

by Anonymousreply 12April 2, 2018 10:21 PM

I’m the footage of the naked people bucking and screaming in a frenzy.

by Anonymousreply 13April 3, 2018 12:00 AM

I had such a hard time deciding if I wanted to be that or the precious, quaint little A-frame houses.

by Anonymousreply 14April 3, 2018 12:01 AM

I’m the massive hot tub in the bunker.

by Anonymousreply 15April 3, 2018 12:29 AM

I'm the compound boutique. Come shop from our complete collection of gorgeous fashion - all in the timeless beauty of burnt orange.

by Anonymousreply 16April 3, 2018 12:34 AM

Is there another thread on this documentary series that I’m missing? I feel like there is so much to talk about!

by Anonymousreply 17April 3, 2018 1:33 AM

I am the total absence of homosexuals.

by Anonymousreply 18April 3, 2018 2:29 AM

I'm Antelope's Mike Pence celebrity look-alike.

by Anonymousreply 19April 3, 2018 7:31 AM

[quote] I'm Antelope's Mike Pence celebrity look-alike.

Yes, but in the archival footage, he was pretty damn hot.

by Anonymousreply 20April 3, 2018 2:36 PM

I have one more episode to watch of this fascinating series. The audacious hubris of the leaders of this cult is what brought them down. So many fools gave so much money and their minds to this cult, it's utterly mind boggling.

by Anonymousreply 21April 3, 2018 2:59 PM

I’m the documentarian who really wants to grill Sheela about the Haldol and the missing millions, but, quite frankly, is a bit scared of her.

by Anonymousreply 22April 4, 2018 5:58 PM

I am the non-apologetic True Believers, who are ENRAGED that someone burst their bubble.

by Anonymousreply 23April 4, 2018 6:44 PM

I am three hours of unnecessary footage. I am composed primarily of grainy shots of trees, tractors, and people dancing. I am what you get in place of actual answers to the dozens of questions you're left with.

by Anonymousreply 24April 4, 2018 7:59 PM

bingo, R24.

by Anonymousreply 25April 4, 2018 8:09 PM

I'm the crazy, just kicked off the commune homeless redneck. I'm angry about all the queers kissing each other at the cult. And lesbians, too!

by Anonymousreply 26April 5, 2018 5:00 AM

I'm with r24 and r25. This was entertaining but left so many questions unanswered. How did they get all the money and where did it all go? Nobody got into more serious trouble for poisoning all those people? Tax evasion? Money laundering? Truly psychopathic behavior that is apparently still going on in some places.

by Anonymousreply 27April 9, 2018 11:16 PM

I'm Arianna Huffington and I categorically deny I was involved in this sex orgy cult, despite numerous news reports to the contrary.

[quote] “Levin liked tall, elegant women as much off-stage as he did on, and needed them as companions at dinner or in the theatre. Arianna answered that requirement perfectly, and had an intelligence to match. Her interest in mystic cults also appealed, though it was to lead him into one of the more embarrassing episodes of his journalism—his hyperbolic praise through a number of columns of the self-promoting guru, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (whose main claim to fame became his fleet of more than 90 Rolls-Royces).”

[quote] Huffington has also quoted the Bhagwan—later known as “Osho”—on social media, Huffington Post has hosted the “lifestyle blog” Osho Times since 2015, and two months prior to her departure from Huffington Post, the site published a glowing piece on Osho and his teachings.

It wouldn’t be the first time she attempted to deny her association with a cult.

[quote] In 1994, during a failed California Senate run by her then-husband (and then-fellow Republican) Michael Huffington, Vanity Fair accused her of being a high-ranking member of the Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, a cult whose leader, John-Roger Hinkins, was accused of bugging, sexually harassing, intimidating, and fleecing his disciples (he denied all the allegations).

[quote] According to Vanity Fair, Huffington had “attained the highest level of secret initiation, ‘Soul Initiate,’” in MSIA, and that “Soul Initiates such as Arianna are required to pray by chanting the secret names of God that John-Roger gives them.”

I was in and out of this world and knew many who lived at the compound and after reading these comments I certainly don't want to watch the documentary. Guess you would have had to live it to understand. Yes there were gay people at the compound >> out and proud.

by Anonymousreply 29April 9, 2018 11:37 PM

I'm R29 and I'm convinced that no outsiders will ever understand how much fun, companionship, sex, and spiritual meaning a young person can have. My sense of perspective never developed and I stopped listening to other people about their lives a long time ago.

by Anonymousreply 30April 10, 2018 12:10 AM

actually you aren't

by Anonymousreply 31April 10, 2018 12:15 AM

I'm Rolls Royce #29

by Anonymousreply 32April 10, 2018 12:16 AM

Being a cult member looks exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 33April 10, 2018 12:17 AM

I am a box of Dark Secrets chocolate.

by Anonymousreply 34April 19, 2018 1:10 PM

I'm the tainted salad bar.

by Anonymousreply 35April 19, 2018 1:17 PM

Is this really the only thread we have about the series? I also thought there were too many unanswered questions. What about children at the commune - they barely showed any...how were they treated? Who was Osho fucking, if not Sheila? The way he was drugged and fleeced by his followers reminded me very much of Michael Jackson in his sad last days.

by Anonymousreply 36April 19, 2018 1:18 PM

I'm one of the ever growing number of Rolls-Royces.

by Anonymousreply 37April 19, 2018 1:23 PM

R36 oh boy that's true. both worshipped as a facade and then exploited to get ahold of their fortunes, even if in their prime they both made a fortune from their followers insane adoration. I think they were both delusional about their own power and their roles, but at least MJ was a true pioneer and deserved the recognition.

by Anonymousreply 38April 22, 2018 3:58 PM

Yes, the documentary focused on the conflict so it didn't spend a lot of time profiling what it was really like in the compound r36.

Bhagwan hated kids and encouraged/forced many women, some of whom were quite young to get sterilized. And some of the young girls there were engaging in sexual relationships with adult men. Many unsavory details ignored.

Bhagwan was also quite homophobic

[quote]Homosexuality was born as a religious phenomenon in the monasteries because we forced monks to live together in one place and nuns to live in one place, and we separated them by great walls. Homosexuality is bound to happen. It happens only in monasteries and in the army, because these are the two places where we don’t allow men and women to mix. Or it happens in boys’ and girls’ hostels; there also we don’t allow them to mix. The whole phenomenon of homosexuality is a by-product of this whole stupid upbringing. Homosexuality will disappear from the world the day we allow men and women to meet naturally.

by Anonymousreply 39May 8, 2018 1:45 PM

This was a fascinating documentary.

Sheela (or Sheila) was something else. A psychopath. The guru let her run wild and he just sat in his house, probably getting doped up. Why would all these people follow someone who never talked for four years? All he did was smile, wave and put his hands in prayer and go back into his room.

by Anonymousreply 40May 8, 2018 2:09 PM

I'm the amazingly beautiful floor-to-ceiling bookcases in Catherine Jane Stork's Australian home.

by Anonymousreply 41May 13, 2018 5:01 AM

I am the deeply annoying way Sheela speaks of the Bhagwan like she's cumming while she speaks of him.

by Anonymousreply 42May 13, 2018 5:03 AM

I am deeply annoyed that this is not a 600-response thread. There is SO much to be mocked and adored in this documentary!

by Anonymousreply 43May 22, 2018 2:18 PM

I am Sheela's smug little smile, and I am still around after all these years.

by Anonymousreply 44May 23, 2018 9:07 AM

I am the hotel, discussed for 2 minutes. Who the hell blew me up?

by Anonymousreply 45May 23, 2018 11:01 AM

I am the wills of the old people with dementia that Sheela has changed to leave everything to herself.

by Anonymousreply 46May 28, 2018 6:45 PM

I am the band of distortion the editors insert in exactly the same place, near the top of the screen, in a perfect rectangle, for 1/3 of the footage from the '80s to make it look "old" -- because, you know, the aspect ratio and the shitty VHS quality don't do that.

by Anonymousreply 47May 28, 2018 6:47 PM

I'm the really cute "street person" drugged and then evicted Sheela, warning people: "There are QUEERS in there!!!!"

by Anonymousreply 48May 28, 2018 6:50 PM

I'm the plastic bunting purchased at craft stores used to whomp up Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh's cheesy caftans.

by Anonymousreply 49May 28, 2018 6:53 PM

I'm the complete lack of the inclusion of ANYTHING Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh ever said.

by Anonymousreply 50May 28, 2018 6:54 PM

I'm the ugly people in town, talking about how horrible the people in the commune look and how folks in a cult need to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

by Anonymousreply 51May 28, 2018 6:55 PM

I am the quote: "With every crown comes the guillotine"

by Anonymousreply 52May 28, 2018 7:11 PM

I'm the husband Ma Anand Sheela murdered because I was getting in the way of that ambitious bitch's plans to take over.

by Anonymousreply 53May 28, 2018 7:17 PM

I am the headdresses Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh uses to cover up the fact that he is bald. I am full of sparkly, plastic roping last seen on Christmas trees in the 1970s.

by Anonymousreply 54May 28, 2018 7:18 PM

I am the "Young Life" American cult that took over the real estate from the "Rajneesh" Indian cult.

Plus ça change!

by Anonymousreply 55May 28, 2018 7:36 PM

I’m the New Republic article from a couple of months ago that might make you wonder why they didn’t at least mention this stuff in the documentary.

Where's the AIDS thing?

by Anonymousreply 59June 14, 2018 6:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 62June 14, 2018 4:51 PM

scary cunts and freaks

by Anonymousreply 63June 14, 2018 4:52 PM

I'm a young Chris Hitchens, looking down my patrician nose at the primal scream 'therapy' sessions in the ashram.

by Anonymousreply 66June 14, 2018 8:37 PM

I'm an erect penis. You never did see me in the orgy scenes...

by Anonymousreply 67July 6, 2018 7:29 AM

Why so few responses in this thread? Anyway, have seen three episodes.

The locals remind me of Trump voters. If they had been more accepting of the Ashram and the. Nike heir did not organize a resistance against the ashram expansion, , then maybe all of the tension would not have escalated to the salad bar poisoning’s.

If the ashram had expanded would have been a great money maker for the town.

BUT...this is ignoring the cults crappy behavior that so far has not been addressed in this documentary

by Anonymousreply 68July 8, 2018 2:51 PM

I’m the black guy who realizes I was just bussed in to get my vote so the cult could take over county government, and now I’m getting booted out again because my vote isn’t going to be counted.

For a minute there I was treated like a human being. I should have known something was up!

by Anonymousreply 69July 8, 2018 2:56 PM

I"m the domestic cult that took over the property from the foreign cult.

by Anonymousreply 70July 8, 2018 3:19 PM

Ma Anand Sheela! What a sociopath. I’m team with the town people, maybe they were small minded but this people just came and invaded them and tried to poison them. And then using street people to control elections and then drugging and discarding them. The docu was a little biased because it didn’t tell the whole story but very addictive nonetheless

by Anonymousreply 71July 8, 2018 3:28 PM

R71, I think the documentary does show each step of the escalation well, and rather objectively.

The townspeople, like all old white townspeople, didn't take too kindly to another religion, and brown skinned Indian people, and HIPPIES living anywhere near them, and walking through the town wearing all red. It was a big shock to them, so they mistreated them.

The cultists couldn't deal with the passive aggressive mistreatment, and so they fought back aggressively. Then the townspeople fought back sheepishly and ignorantly. Then the cultists doubled down yet again.

The fault is widespread here. Sheela should bear the biggest burden here, because she couldn't just find a way to make peace with the townspeople, by letting each community live separately, and take a few punches. She had to fight back doubly each time. She was a bully and a narcissist, but was also the victim of racism and prejudice.

Everyone sucks here, basically.

by Anonymousreply 72July 8, 2018 9:01 PM

I'm the loud sounds of sex "all day and all night" in the hick town when the cult started moving in. A few of the hicks secretly masrurbated to me a few times but then complained about me in the morning.
