I was going to check out this show out of mild curiosity, but I think I will pass.

That's disappointing, that Goyer is involved in this. The trailer, I saw months ago, made the show look quite interesting. But then I am a sucker for CW type of shows (For example I like Beyond on Freeform - no gay character, a lesbian villain though).

Well, one of the actors played "Scudder" from "Maurice"... he's matured very nicely indeed.

Well, the premiere suffers from all the traditional issues of a pilot... too much exposition and setup, info-dumps, and such.

But I feel like there's potential once it actually gets into it. I hope it finds its groove. The production values are certainly good, and I like most of the actors.

Why does everyone on Krypton have a British accent? And why weren't there any good shots of Cuff with his shirt off? Show us those 15 pounds of new muscles.

I mean...who cares about Krypton? Another pre-Superman show? I wished they'd build a show around someone like Zatanna or Dr. Fate.

I believe the show tries to recreate the initial success of Gotham (the show following a young James Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne and some of the origin stories of Batman's greatest villains).

Went in with *super* low expectations and it actually wasn't that bad. At least not aggressively so. Technology stuff, time travel, Brainiac were all cool and I'd like to see more of that in the future. Teenage personal drama, not so much.

The show is aware its strength is the lead's face and he has more facial expressions than that Smallville Whatshisface, so that's a good sign. And those military guys are basically all just models as well; SyFy must've gotten some tips from CW in that department. They sure make for nice eye candy, though I've never felt more like a weak 7 than when watching this premiere.

Really could use some gay characters. But it's never going to happen.

Brainiac reminds me a little bit of Snoke from Star Wars.

This is how he appears in the show, a bit different from the OP picture.

He seems to specialize in male model scowl throughout the episode, but it is quite effective. When they get a good closeup shot of him, it looks like something is happening even when he is standing still and nothing's going on. You end up studying his beautiful but pouty face.

It's mildly amusing, like the other scifi dramas. Lots of familiar tropes and overacting. Nice CGI.

Unfortunately, it is laughably bad. MST3K bad.

It's really not bad and I was the poster bitching about Peak TV upthread. Travelling back in time from Earth is a great conceit as this would just be another generic Caprica prequel without it. The concept of Brainiac is scaring me and I've no idea how one is supposed to fight a cosmic horror like that.

However, the trope of the lead's parents getting killed as the event that starts off his journey really should be retired by now, along with rape serving that same purpose.

No love for Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos)? The show runner seems to be hinting that his character might be up for queer stuff, but I'm really hoping it's NOT with the bartender. We already had a gay bartender on another sci fi show, Syfy's Killjoys. Shan Sipos was also on Syfy's Dark Matter and his hair was blonder, i don't know why its darker on Krypton. Other killjoys actor was on Supergirl.

I *totally* got a gay vibe between him and the lead's bartender friend without knowing that the showrunner said that. Sorry, don't know any of the names yet.

I don't watch Killjoys but I'll take any representation they throw at us at this point. And I really don't see why the bartender being gay would be such an issue if it happened on two different shows.

The AV Club slapped a C+ on the latest episode and stopped covering the show until further notice. And I agree that the plotting and the writing, in general, is not very good.

The Voice of Rao had the tightest bod but the actor (well, fitness model) playing that character is uncredited so I can't look him up. The voice actor is listed on IMDb but is uncredited on the show as well, oddly enough.

Why keep up? We know Krypton gets blowed up real good, and grandson Superman lives and saves Earth. It's just an hour glass running out. It's all pretty, but I'm annoyed by the 'serious' acting.

I'm super-duper confused about the SyFy ratings, and what rating is needed for SyFy to renew a show. They renewed the Magicians with a .27 demo rating and 710,000 viewers and canceled Dominion with a .25 rating and 869,000 viewers.

According to the link, Krypton had a rating of .26 in the demo and 882,000 viewers. I think the article indicates that this is the latest rating for Krypton (updated 5/3/18).

Listen, I adore all of those shows and discuss them endlessly on their respective threads when they're airing. I mean, I don't discuss The Expanse in its official thread because I find the nerds there to be humourless and entirely without charm so I go to its subreddit instead, but that show is HARD sci-fi that should be [italic]the[/italic] parade horse of a channel called SyFy.

I also got a distinct impression it had a huge fanbase, for some reason. Guess not. That subreddit is currently in meltdown, by the way, and it's awful to see. On the other hand, there have never been any prominent gay male characters included in the three seasons of that show, which always bothered me. There's simply no excuse for that in 2018.

But SyFy did give The Expanse three seasons (and the producers appear to be shopping it elsewhere for a 4th.) If Krypton got even three seasons, lots of us would be happy. Killing Krypton after only one season would be really sad news.

Also, look at other SyFy productions like The Magicians or The Expanse - it's mostly all Canadians as well. NBC's 'Midnight, Texas' had almost all Canadians in the cast, CBS' Star Trek: Discovery has Canadians in all non-lead roles... it goes on and on. They're cheaper in general, but especially if you shoot in Canada.

SAG-AFTRA is not going to go into a fight with its sister unions in the UK and Canada over this non-issue when the vast majority of TV productions that eventually air in the US still film in the US and feature an American cast.

I'm not R270, but we're talking about two different things when it comes to the characters.

Adam was established as gay/bisexual in season one. That much was made clear in the Sagitarii locker room.

With Nissa Vex, on the other hand, there was NEVER any indication that she might be bisexual - at all - until this most recent episode. It was out of left field.

Up until then, she had always pined for Seg-El, and wanted to have kids with him. There was not even an inkling of her attraction to females, throughout the entire season one.

R270 might have worded it incorrectly. Her "bisexuality" isn't really trying to appease the bi/gay female audience, as much as it seems to be pandering to them. It probably also turns on the straight guys, as well.

However, Nissa's bisexuality is so random. It also seems to written into the script for the sole purpose of stealing the rebel plans, by having her sleep with that short asian woman.

Krypton doesn't usually get their storyline wrong, but in this case, I think that they made a mistake.

You honestly don't see that kind of dialogue between men nowdays. It was very honest and real, since they had known each other since their childhood days.

Cameron Cuffe's acting during that scene was so good, and you could tell that his tears were genuine. I think that he was truly sad about Rasmus Hardiker leaving the show.

That said, I'll bet that he was happy with the way his character left the show. It was so brave, and getting his head ripped off by Doomsday, is definitely the way to go!
