Christiane Amanpour explores Sex & Love Around The World on CNN premiering tonight! (3/17)

I mean lmfao this isn't fucking news but I like stuff like this so I'll dvr and watch later.

by Anonymousreply 42April 22, 2018 2:18 AM

This is the reason I don't have television. It used to be something I enjoyed every now and then, but I don't anymore.

Am I the only one who thinks the amount of attention given to and the importance placed upon our supposed "sex drive" is utter bullshit?

by Anonymousreply 3March 18, 2018 1:41 AM

it's nice seeing Christiane let her hair down. It's also interesting to see how people in different countries view sex & love

by Anonymousreply 4March 18, 2018 2:06 AM

dumb news

by Anonymousreply 5March 18, 2018 2:07 AM

Christiane is such a fucking lightweight. People are seduced by her fancy (butch) accent. She really annoys me.

by Anonymousreply 6March 18, 2018 2:38 AM

How about we use our lone international reporter for something useful.

Comcast/cnn corporate news network will have none of that.

Bordain and useless documentaries only.

by Anonymousreply 7March 18, 2018 2:49 AM

It makes me sick to think that some corporate thugs bought cnn and now want to erase all news.

People need to wake up and start their own media companies even if it’s just you and an iPhone.

News has left the building.

by Anonymousreply 8March 18, 2018 2:51 AM

I'm watching. 40% of Japanese men are virgins. Japan is such a stifled society that hugging or kissing is not the norm.

by Anonymousreply 9March 18, 2018 2:52 AM

CNN could just stream twitter all day and still be more productive. The take in billions off the cheap studio programming of don lemon yelling at fraudulent hucksters.

They’re not even trying anymore.

by Anonymousreply 10March 18, 2018 2:53 AM

Ok but aren’t there more important things we should be covering on the international scene like wars and missing girls in Africa and the polar ice caps and the new Cold War etc.

by Anonymousreply 11March 18, 2018 2:54 AM

worthless network.

by Anonymousreply 12March 18, 2018 2:55 AM

R9 How was that survey conducted? What age ranges were included? Who were the types of people asked, and what types of people bothered to respond? Do you think the best and brightest in the US respond to these types of surveys? Do you those that do never respond with total bullshit answers? Why do you think this reported survey and the people of Japan are any different? Have you ever hung out with men from Japan?

by Anonymousreply 13March 18, 2018 4:25 AM

R13, it was mentioned by Amanpour's American speaking Japanese psychologist who accompanied her while interviewing the women. I have no idea how she got the numbers. You need to calm down, Mary.

by Anonymousreply 14March 18, 2018 4:37 AM

She's an amazingly boring interviewer and person. I always come away having watched anything she presents, totally unsatisfied.

She doesn't question, she just relays soundbites.

But she presents herself as someone interesting and intelligent - and people buy it. I know I did, but after a while I began to realise, she was having us on.

by Anonymousreply 15March 18, 2018 4:52 AM

[quote]This is the reason I don't have television. It used to be something I enjoyed every now and then, but I don't anymore.

Trust me - as awful as it is, there are still things to "enjoy every now and then".

by Anonymousreply 16March 18, 2018 4:55 AM

I think she insulted the people who showed her the sacred 15th-century scrolls of explicit sex with her mockery and imitation of putting her foot in her vagina. She really came across as someone who was uncomfortable with the subject matter and should be in a war zone somewhere. Give me Lisa Ling for this kind of shit.

by Anonymousreply 17March 18, 2018 5:01 AM

[quote]She really came across as someone who was uncomfortable with the subject matter

I'm NOT surprised.

by Anonymousreply 18March 18, 2018 5:03 AM

OK I watched and have to say I like the idea of the show. It's good for a Saturday night thing. The premiere episode on Tokyo was fascinating. I had NO idea it's normal in Japan to be sexless! When people get married and have kids, a lot of them stop hugging and kissing. The women who stop looking for boyfriends and instead read homoerotic comics, the guy with the female blowup dolls, the woman who goes to gay bars to talk about straight men, all the businesses that cater to single men and women with prostitution or just companionship...I'm hooked.

New Delhi is next week.

by Anonymousreply 20March 19, 2018 4:23 AM

Looking forward to the New Delhi episode tonight. The Tokyo episode was fascinating

by Anonymousreply 21March 25, 2018 1:05 AM

The Japanese revelations aren't that surprising to me but I honestly have no idea about the sexual habits in India. Except that they obviously like it a lot and aren't big on birth control. So that should be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 22March 25, 2018 1:20 AM

I love this show. I was glad to see in the more modern New Delhi that young people are trying to stop the whole arranged marriages thing and want to marry for love instead. It makes sense that men in India don't know how to date because of the arranged marriage tradition.

Interesting that the law allows for transgenders even though gay rights are lacking.

Beirut is next episode which should be interesting

by Anonymousreply 23March 25, 2018 4:19 PM

[quote] the law allows for transgenders even though gay rights are lacking.

It's this way in very repressive countries. You are pretty much forced to become trans in Iran if you're gay.

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2018 4:43 PM

Beirut episode tonight!

by Anonymousreply 25April 1, 2018 12:48 AM

So? How the hell do they like to do it in India?!

by Anonymousreply 26April 1, 2018 1:22 AM

wow I learned a lot in the Beirut episode:

christian women also have a hard time dating. Regardless of religion in Lebanon, a woman is expected to be a virgin for marriage. The women who have sex before marriage often have their hymen put back in place so their new husband will think she's a virgin.

There is a 500 year old sex book written in Arabic that is an Islamic text. It's graphic but also progressive as it talks about men AND women being sexually pleased. This was before Islam took a major turn against sex and women in society. The book is called The Perfumed Garden

in Shia law, only the husband can request a divorce, the wife must accept it and he decides all the terms. If they have a son, he lives with the mother until he's 2 and then lives with the father. A girl can live with the mother until she's 7. Only at 14 can a child decide to stay with the father or move in with the mother.

I liked that Christianne again talked to gays. There are some bars in Beirut that accept gays but it's still a bit risky and certain parts of town are unsafe for lgbt people. There was the country's first gay pride event last year and 400 people showed up. Homosexuality is still a crime and police can arrest people believed to be engaged in homosexual activity. They have "an egg test" to determine if a man has had anal sex...they see if an egg can fit up his ass. The bottom is more discriminated against. It's common for gays and lesbians to marry, have kids and then have gay/lesbian partners on the side who are also in sham marriages.

There is a nightlife in Beirut. Many young people go out at night to certain bars/clubs where they can let loose and do what they can't do during the day/their public lives.

I'm really loving this show.

Up next week is Berlin

by Anonymousreply 27April 1, 2018 9:18 AM

CNN unwatchable. Repetitive and constantly interrupted by ad breaks or segments promoting CNN shows with earsplitting percussion and music....makes for an appalling experience.

R6 Amanpour's accent is neither fake nor butch. She simply has a deep voice, and possibly ex or current smoker. Her accent is very natural and typical of well educated Brits; slightly southern. Would hardly call Christiane a lightweight considering many of her female peers.

by Anonymousreply 31April 1, 2018 5:09 PM

R31 I bet smoking is/was a factor. She is half British and half Persian and a journalist. Smoking is common among those people.

by Anonymousreply 32April 1, 2018 5:35 PM

The Berlin episode aired tonight. It was interesting to see the contrast of liberal Berlin with its bondage groups, dominatrix bossing around successful middle aged men with the Muslim immigrants.

lol Christiane played table tennis at a nude society. I didn't know there was a liberal sex/nude culture in Berlin before Hitler put a stop to it

I think it's a great idea that there are sex ed classes available for immigrants.

The liberated Afgan top German model was very pretty. It was nice to see her lose the veil and even pose in underwear. The Afghan refugees seemed fine with her too. It was sad to see that Afghan and Syrian women really don't have a concept of what a happy marriage and love are.

The last segment about a middle aged German/Syrian refugee couple was lovely.

by Anonymousreply 33April 8, 2018 8:52 AM

is it just me

I cant watch that biatch

boring as bongwater.....yes,lightweight and her shows on pbs are ugh: alwys yesterdays politix

by Anonymousreply 34April 8, 2018 8:57 AM

The irony of someone who probably hasn't had sex in 30 years hosting a show on sex

by Anonymousreply 35April 8, 2018 9:39 AM

Is she married? kids? i don't know anything about her personal life

by Anonymousreply 36April 8, 2018 6:00 PM

git rid of her insipid dry as dirt presence.

good god

even joy reid would be fab!!!!

by Anonymousreply 37April 10, 2018 3:45 AM

She was once roommates with JFK, Jr. In RI, so she must have seen him naked.

by Anonymousreply 38April 10, 2018 3:50 AM

Yes, it's quite entertaining to hear Christiane Amanpour say the word DILDO on a news channel.

That said, its a surprisingly interesting show. I thought America had hang up, sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 39April 10, 2018 3:55 AM

Next Saturday the episode takes place in Accra, Ghana.

by Anonymousreply 40April 10, 2018 4:09 AM

She was raised in Iran then moved to England when she was a child. So gets Persian culture but can relate it to us as a she is basically a westerner. Her husband is Jewish, they have one son and they live in NYC. My guess is they are Democrats since her husband worked in the Clinton Admin as a diplomat.

Really her claim to fame was years ago when no one wanted her she got sent off to the middle east to report from the war zone. She turned out to be really good at that and knew her way around the culture as well as speaking the language. There were and are still a lot of wars going on, she was never afraid to go right into the center of it all.

Can you imagine FAUX News sending one of their blond bimbos to do the same? Like Monica Crowley? She would be shot dead or kidnapped within hours. Although, that might not be a bad thing.

by Anonymousreply 41April 10, 2018 4:14 AM

Double episode tonight because it was interrupted last week.

Accra and Shanghai!
