When you wear a very long coat

It makes you look thinner.

I had a maxi coat when I was a skinny lass doing some modeling in the 70s. It was sort of a brown twill Edwardian cut with a wide collar. I LOVED it and wore it often. I also had a long tweed coat I loved because it fit over everything. I finally donated it recently because the shoulders just looked too huge. I don't remember when I parted ways with my maxi.

I always felt special when I wore those coats.

More men should wear topcoats. They look so elegant when you sweep down the street!

And they keep you really warm, too.

It certainly gives the Peaky Blinders a certain flair.

It makes you look like Batman.

Yes. I had a beautiful black wool coat that came almost to my ankles. It had slits up the side so I could walk easily and it had a high standup collar and it was fitted in the waist. It was sort of military-style, but not harsh. With some nice heeled boots, I felt like a million bucks. And back when I was 25, I looked like it, too.

Sigh.

My sister introduced me to the phrase “Car coat”, which is a shorter coat.
