Usually an actor proves himself on stage.

The kind of performing that works well on stage often doesn’t translate to Film / TV - part of it is the difference of the audience being 20 rows away vs a camera that is 20 feet away. There are different types of acting skills - on film one of the most important is allowing the viewer to “see what you are thinking” and plenty of actors can’t do that very well

Good theater actors are also usually good on screen.

I agree it's not the same kind of charisma, but often movie stars or people with great on screen charisma are not the best actors to begin with.

I'll say one thing in his defense -- It wasn't like they gave him any material to work with; it was the definition of a thankless role. He had one single 3-minute scene to establish the character, and that scene was pointedly written to make him inscrutable to the audience -- we're meant to not be able to get a sense of whether or not he's a good or bad guy. In his next scene, he reveals his true colors within 45 seconds and then leaves. Without adding any extra dialogue or scenes, how do you make this guest shot into anything memorable?

Some actors might have enough of an off-kilter vibe to make those two scenes interesting, just by force of the actor's own personality, but Cheyenne's not that guy. He doesn't bring much that isn't already on the page unless he's wearing jean shorts.

There are plenty of memorable stage actors who just didn't translate well onto the screen: Tallulah Bankhead is the most famous example, but also Laurette Taylor, Ethel Merman, Zero Mostel, Carol Channing, Peter Gallagher, Patti LuPone, Raul Esparza.

And there are plenty of screen actors who are excellent in front of a camera, such as Michelle Pfeiffer who just don't translate well onstage.

It's a different kind of acting, and what works in person does not work on the camera (and vice-versa).

Tallulah certainly had great success with "Lifeboat" and even in the I Love Lucy episode. Even (or perhaps especially) in camp like Batman and Die Die My Darling, she had a definite presence that worked well onscreen. Laurette Taylor had almost no screen credits but that very fascinating screen test she did for Selznick proved she definitely had the talent to translate to screen. Peter Gallagher is far more famous for his TV and film work than stage.

I'd include Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli in the not translatable to film.

Well, he was back in the last episode and looks like they're engaged. Will they end up getting married next episode? Probably not.

I don't know if he was even under consideration but he would have been wonderful in Boys in the Band and there were several roles he could have played.

He's not as talented as the other guys in the play.He's probably become very difficult to work with and he's way too in love with LA to consider working elsewhere.

They're amazing parents because they're raising the next Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus!Rich and famous kids,that's what they're aiming for when they decided to have kids.

If the talent is "dime a dozen" or there is nothing of real star quality there, the performers end up in dinner theatre or indie films with tiny budgets. Some get TV gigs or soap opera gigs but none of that is remotely consistent. Many become alcoholics or drug addicts. The Boulevard of Broken Dreams is a real "thing." The history of entertainment is all about "starlets" and "beefcakes" who never made it big.
