by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 14, 2018 3:41 AM |
Wasnโt there recently another young cute democratic that people thought would win and then he lost? Or did I just imagine that?

I want to suckle that rack of lamb
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 14, 2018 3:44 AM |
Yes, r8, that was Jon Ossoff, who lost a special election in Georgia.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 14, 2018 3:44 AM |
I stumped for him
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 14, 2018 3:44 AM |
lets hear how fukhead trump spins this loss for him.....
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 14, 2018 3:44 AM |
This ABSOLUTELY proves the Repigs would vote to cut their own throats! We {the Dems} are in trouble. Every Dems needs to vote.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 14, 2018 3:45 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 14, 2018 3:45 AM |
Thank you, r13, for your time and effort!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 14, 2018 3:46 AM |
Jon Ossof was almost a year ago wasn't he? Feels like it anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 14, 2018 3:46 AM |
I would hump Jon Ostroff. Or Conor Lamb.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 14, 2018 3:46 AM |
#TwitOnTwitter#DJT
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 14, 2018 3:46 AM |
Whats that thing on Kornacki's hand
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 14, 2018 3:46 AM |
Given that Tim Murphy, who vacated the seat, ran unopposed because the district was THAT red. Win or lose...Tonight was miraculous
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 14, 2018 3:47 AM |
he's a mutant
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 14, 2018 3:47 AM |
if you had seen the debates between Lamb and Saccone you would say Lamb was a 10. I'm actually surprised Saccone got as many votes as he did because he was terrible in the debates.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 14, 2018 3:48 AM |
The Trump cult is strong among Pennsylvania red necks
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 14, 2018 3:50 AM |
I have to say Brian Williams can be quite charming.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 14, 2018 3:50 AM |
r25, it unfortunately is
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 14, 2018 3:51 AM |
very few Dems run in my area (above Pittsburgh) because the republicans threaten them and tell them that they will lose because they will throw millions in for their person to win. So the Dems don't even sign up to run. It's awful when you go to vote and your only choice is a republican so you don't vote for anyone which doesn't do anything.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 14, 2018 3:52 AM |
Who's going to post the STEVE HAWKINS IS DEAD TO ME thread?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 14, 2018 3:52 AM |
And the protest at KDKA where his supporters dressed as sheep was a hilarious fail too, r24.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 14, 2018 3:52 AM |
R24, the district is full of rednecks who will vote GOP no matter how bad the candidate is. I know because I live there.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 14, 2018 3:52 AM |
There is no way for Trump to spin this. The party will begin to dump him
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 14, 2018 3:53 AM |
the tide has turned: I think a lot of regular folks are pissd cause of that dam taxcut for the rich fuks
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 14, 2018 3:53 AM |
Damn scary that an infantile imbecile like Trump still has so many by the balls.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 14, 2018 3:53 AM |
Everything Trump touches dies a slow miserable death.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 14, 2018 3:53 AM |
The DCCC just put a statement to claim victory for Lamb. I like this new gutsy Dem organization.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 14, 2018 3:54 AM |
shocked Hawkins lasted as long as she did.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 14, 2018 3:54 AM |
r35, or rather quick sometimes
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 14, 2018 3:54 AM |
can they fix the gerrymandering stuff??
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 14, 2018 3:55 AM |
This is bad, bad, bad for Trump and Republicans. Even if Lamb loses by a slight margin...its baaaaaaaaahhhhhhddddd for them.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 14, 2018 3:55 AM |
Trump will spin it:
1) Saccone was a bad bad candidate. Very bad!
2) I pulled Saccone out of the gutter numbers. My name is vote-gold!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 14, 2018 3:55 AM |
This isn't just Trump's fault. The tax reform bill was supposed to save republicans and it didn't
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 14, 2018 3:55 AM |
Not sure how the Orange Asshole is going to spin it (will likely blame a "terrible" candidate in Saccone), but there is already significant spin on the part of the GOP. Some insiders are saying they expected a "bloodbath," and the fact that it's so close is a minor miracle.
Umm, yeah right. Dump won here by 20. This was never in a million years going to be a Lamb landslide. Keep on spinning, assholes. Whatever lets you sleep at night.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 14, 2018 3:56 AM |
What do yuou mean R39? Pennsylvania was ordered to redraw their districts asap. In fact this district, PA-18, won't exist very soon.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 14, 2018 3:56 AM |
plz let trump and lady jared be led away in chains soon
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 14, 2018 3:56 AM |
R39, the supreme court of PA already has ruled it, it's gonna get fixed or else, this is the last election to be held with the old districts
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 14, 2018 3:57 AM |
I get a huge kick out of kornacki
he deserves a whole show , hope he gets one if he wants the hassle
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 14, 2018 3:57 AM |
R41, Trump stooges are already saying that Lamb won because he was the outsider, like Trump, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 14, 2018 3:57 AM |
Brian Williams to Kornacki: "Steve, flap your arms if you need to go on air."
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 14, 2018 3:58 AM |
thx @ 39. the gerrymandering issue bugs the fuk outta me. huge deal.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 14, 2018 3:58 AM |
Keep in mind the redistrcting is being challenged in court.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 14, 2018 3:59 AM |
R47 , Steve already had a show on MSNBC.
It was cancelled.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 14, 2018 3:59 AM |
it IS huge. PA has been called one of the worst cases of political gerrymandering ever
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 14, 2018 3:59 AM |
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court already drew the new map:
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 14, 2018 3:59 AM |
scarey, election so close. musta been cheating from repubs no doubt.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 14, 2018 3:59 AM |
Lady Jared will be my new drag name.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 14, 2018 4:00 AM |
Dump was already saying yesterday that suckonne was a terrible candidate. Already spinning. Always lying.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 14, 2018 4:00 AM |
All election day votes counted. Waiting on absentees.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 14, 2018 4:00 AM |
R54, I believe Federal Courts now have it. But it is still making its way through the court system. It's not a done deal yet.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 14, 2018 4:02 AM |
R54, ithe new map still favors Republicans but it is a huge improvement. If we want fairer districts, vwe gotta make sure Dems are in charge in 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 14, 2018 4:03 AM |
R59, but having the courts reject the new map is a longshot.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 14, 2018 4:04 AM |
Turning Tables....
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 14, 2018 4:04 AM |
lol Williams just called out Steve for his manic antics. I love Steve <3
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 14, 2018 4:05 AM |
R59, I believe it's already been to the Supreme Court where Alito, of all people, refused the stay on the implementation of the new map for the 2018 midterm elections.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 14, 2018 4:05 AM |
all votes are in but absentee and Lamb has it by 579 votes
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 14, 2018 4:08 AM |
Brian Williams is in his element tonight.
That was fucking funny: He put Kornacki on "standby or preheat mode."
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 14, 2018 4:09 AM |
This is an imposter thread so I wonโt dignify it.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 14, 2018 4:10 AM |
So, turnout for Dems, was at 79% of Clinton vote totals while for Trump totals, it was only 53%.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 14, 2018 4:10 AM |
brian sed: 'flap if u have news for us steve' ...love him
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 14, 2018 4:11 AM |
R61, this may actually make it to SCOTUS. I'm not so hopefully of it passing if it does.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 14, 2018 4:12 AM |
I think the bullshit that the GOP "needs " trump to campaign for them is a myth. I think Trump hates to associate with losers. If he gets the numbers ahead of time and it looks like it's going to be too close to call or that his guy is going to lose, he avoids it. This is a great example. He didn't campaign for this guy until the last minute. His kid went there. Pence went there. But he didn't go until this weekend and they probably had to drag him there. He knew the guy was going to lose, or at least that it would be closer than it should be and he didn't want the stink to attach to himself. He doesn't realize he IS the stink.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 14, 2018 4:12 AM |
You guys are being rude as shit to our long time and honored guest.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 14, 2018 4:12 AM |
wtf u talkin bout
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 14, 2018 4:13 AM |
Sorry this is not the imposter thread.
I must go there and shame them instead.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 14, 2018 4:13 AM |
sickening how red the Sup Court is...
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 14, 2018 4:13 AM |
This particular case hasn't made it to SCOTUS yet, r64. It's being argued in Harrisburg now. If a loss happens there then it moves up the chain.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 14, 2018 4:14 AM |
LMAO! Steve hit back at Brian.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 14, 2018 4:14 AM |
CNN reported that there are 118 seats held by pukes that are more competitive than PA18
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 14, 2018 4:14 AM |
What did he do, r77?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 14, 2018 4:16 AM |
Well?
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 14, 2018 4:16 AM |
turnout for Dems was at 79% of Clinton vote totals
The 21% no-shows should be ashamed of themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 14, 2018 4:16 AM |
Lol watch the dems end up with 300 seats this fall.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 14, 2018 4:18 AM |
Still, 79% turnout of a presidential race for a special election is insane and unheard of.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 14, 2018 4:19 AM |
79% turnout?! That can't be right. Beyond insane.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 14, 2018 4:20 AM |
Well, let's hope this is a lesson learned for the Dem electorate. Fucking go out and vote!
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 14, 2018 4:21 AM |
Steve is annoying as fuk
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 14, 2018 4:22 AM |
Does Steve own another color pants?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 14, 2018 4:23 AM |
of Clinton vote totals
by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 14, 2018 4:26 AM |
Steve is brilliant and sexy and funz
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 14, 2018 4:27 AM |
Mary! I fear Steve will stroke out and collapse on live tv during the midterm elections.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 14, 2018 4:27 AM |
R86 ITA. He is cute, but way too hyper for me! I will turn on MSNBC if Lamb wins after the absentee votes are counted.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 14, 2018 4:27 AM |
misread that as "absent teen votes"
by Anonymous | reply 92 | March 14, 2018 4:28 AM |
Steve is the Jerry O'Connell of cable news.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | March 14, 2018 4:28 AM |
THis is a big deal. Not just Santorum's heartland, but one with a big preference for protectionsim as espoused by populist Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | March 14, 2018 4:28 AM |
Lamb isn't liberal enough for me to care about this. He's not that different from that asshole from WV who claims to be a dem.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | March 14, 2018 4:31 AM |
SOMEONE GET STEVE SOME MORE WATER
by Anonymous | reply 96 | March 14, 2018 4:31 AM |
Agree totally with r94 -- this sends a very strong message going into the midterms--hope this triggers more R retirements.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | March 14, 2018 4:32 AM |
Fine r95, but I hope you don't live in the Pennsylvania district where this is all happening either.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | March 14, 2018 4:34 AM |
R95 would you rather have Republicans in those seats? You sound like the Bernie Bros who refused to vote for Clinton because she wasn't liberal enough.
The fact of the matter is, a progressive cannot win this seat. Or Manchin's seat. I would much rather have Manchin or Lamb, who I agree with on 75% of the issues, than a Republican that I disagree with on 90% of the issues.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | March 14, 2018 4:37 AM |
Steve's "giant laptop" LOL
by Anonymous | reply 100 | March 14, 2018 4:37 AM |
R95 is the reason this country is where it is today..Thanks!
by Anonymous | reply 101 | March 14, 2018 4:38 AM |
Precisely, r71. Saccone was polling much better in early February before Trump, Donnie Jr., Pence, and Ivanka started showing up to campaign for him. Obviously he felt he needed the campaign cash, so he didn't have a choice who the GOP sent his way. But I am convinced Trump & Co. hurt him. Certainly bodes well for the blue wave in November.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | March 14, 2018 4:38 AM |
That other, second-rate thread has gone as far as to steal our anchor link @OP.
A new low.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | March 14, 2018 4:39 AM |
bump for authenticity and for the sake of honor and all that is pure.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | March 14, 2018 4:40 AM |
So it looks like Lamb has won, yes? They said Labor unions really got behind LLamb. The head labor guy for the steelworkers says these triffs are bulshit and will do more harm then good. He is also calling Trump out on the tax cuts. Articulate and kicking ass and they turned out.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | March 14, 2018 4:40 AM |
Right R99. Plus Dems need control of the house to put the breaks on Trump. At this point who cares if it is half blue dog Dems if we can get the Committees to actually investigate Trump and Republicans among other things.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | March 14, 2018 4:40 AM |
I wouldnโt be surprised if the poll troll slinked out of the back door due to the shameful acts of a few.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | March 14, 2018 4:41 AM |
I completely agree, r99.
Have you read the comments in that thread, r103? It's a remedial election results thread.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | March 14, 2018 4:41 AM |
omg lamb so sexy wexy !!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 109 | March 14, 2018 4:43 AM |
Brian W. is on fire tonight with the bon mots.
Telling a pundit, "I've been wanting to get to you like a dream sequence."
by Anonymous | reply 110 | March 14, 2018 4:43 AM |
Heโs showing his handsome face on tv right now.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | March 14, 2018 4:43 AM |
What did Steve say back to BW?
by Anonymous | reply 112 | March 14, 2018 4:44 AM |
Conor Lamb speaking now: "It took a little longer than expected, but -- we did it"
by Anonymous | reply 113 | March 14, 2018 4:45 AM |
dreamy creamy luscious and suk suk suckable
by Anonymous | reply 114 | March 14, 2018 4:45 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 117 | March 14, 2018 4:46 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 14, 2018 4:46 AM |
Now Brian fucking Williams is being a killjoy: "No news organization has called the race yet"
by Anonymous | reply 120 | March 14, 2018 4:47 AM |
Well clearly Steve had plenty to spare.
But it looked more like coke or something hard.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | March 14, 2018 4:47 AM |
He's much cuter in video vs. pictures.
And he didn't take corporate PAC money!
by Anonymous | reply 122 | March 14, 2018 4:48 AM |
I'm watching Conor Lamb's speech live on C-SPAN and omg he is HOTT
by Anonymous | reply 123 | March 14, 2018 4:48 AM |
YAY!!!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 124 | March 14, 2018 4:48 AM |
Yes, he thanked me, I sent him $25 from Los Angeles, lol.
He looks kinda special though. I hadn't heard him speak before.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | March 14, 2018 4:49 AM |
R117 he wouldn't win the democratic primary. He's not the kind of democrat that most democrats want these days. He's the kind of democrat that this district needed though.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 14, 2018 4:49 AM |
Steve on MSNBC is pretty much saying it looks like lamb can win bc absentee ballots go dem.
Too close to call.
Republican might fight in court.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 14, 2018 4:50 AM |
WE NEED MORE GOOD LOOKIN DEMS LIKE HIM IN THE GOVT
by Anonymous | reply 128 | March 14, 2018 4:50 AM |
He looks nervous.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | March 14, 2018 4:50 AM |
So I'm assuming this doesn't bode well for the GOP in November or is that just wishful thinking?
by Anonymous | reply 130 | March 14, 2018 4:50 AM |
The new Dems, he is the face of winning, goodness, fair play
by Anonymous | reply 131 | March 14, 2018 4:51 AM |
Um, he's declared victory but I believe that there are a couple of counties that won't have results until tomorrow. I hope he wins, but as I understand it Saccone could ask for a recall if the totals are within a certain percentage point.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | March 14, 2018 4:51 AM |
handsomest guy in congress now. wow
by Anonymous | reply 133 | March 14, 2018 4:51 AM |
Trump is losing his shit tonight. He really wanted to win this, to call it a win for him. They are going to have to dart him.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 14, 2018 4:53 AM |
I had never realized until tonight just how blazingly hot this man is. But r131 has got it right: fair play, openness, friendliness--and his strong commitment to organized labor in his region--will be a winning strategy for Dems. This guy and Mayor Pete Buttegieg of South Bend, IN have got it.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 14, 2018 4:55 AM |
R132, who cares. He's likely going to win and I'm okay with Dems growing a pair and being proactive and aggressive instead of always being cautious . where has caution gotten us?
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 14, 2018 4:56 AM |
Saccone losing is a big deal for the republican platform saccone is already a local elected official and runs on anti union/right to work rhectic (cough batshit). the jig is up, no one is this states buy into this shit.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 14, 2018 4:56 AM |
he has beautiful energy around him.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 14, 2018 4:57 AM |
fair play, openness, friendliness--and his strong commitment to organized labor in his region-
Pennsylvania, god damn
It could make a real difference.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | March 14, 2018 4:58 AM |
imagine how farther along dems be if Pelosi were replaced by someone better
by Anonymous | reply 140 | March 14, 2018 4:58 AM |
He's smart to invoke FDR. I like it.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | March 14, 2018 4:59 AM |
so lamb thinks he won?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | March 14, 2018 5:00 AM |
Please explain R140. How is Pelosi holding Dems back?
by Anonymous | reply 143 | March 14, 2018 5:00 AM |
More of this in November please.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 14, 2018 5:01 AM |
Did Lamb say he wouldn't vote for Pelosi for Housespeaker (provided the Dems take the House back), or did I just imagine that?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | March 14, 2018 5:01 AM |
the new smart hipsters don't dig old pelosi
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 14, 2018 5:03 AM |
2018 came in like a liar, will go out like a Lamb.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 14, 2018 5:05 AM |
r143 the "Establishment" Democratic party has become a gerontocracy--and it is very much The Establishment. If Dianne Feinstein is re-relected, she will be 93 when she leaves office. John Conyers (before he left at age 88) paid someone to call him every morning to tell him what day it is. Pelosi has been in power long enough. The party will die if it doesn't develop its "bench" -- the next generation(s). And by the way Obama did ZERO to help the party do this while he was in power, and next thing you know he is windsurfing with Richard Branson on a private island. So people like Conor Lamb are very important.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | March 14, 2018 5:05 AM |
Vaughn hillyard: Alfred e neuman
by Anonymous | reply 150 | March 14, 2018 5:07 AM |
YoU hear correct, r146. That was part of his platform.
I'm happy to see a resurgence of the centrists. I think Bernie took things to far to the other side.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | March 14, 2018 5:08 AM |
Pelosi is yesterday
dems want new faces, new votes, new NEW
by Anonymous | reply 153 | March 14, 2018 5:08 AM |
lamb is great grandson of john fitzgerald kennedy dammit.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | March 14, 2018 5:09 AM |
Centrists? This dude is opposed to abortion. Christ Almighty.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | March 14, 2018 5:12 AM |
its a foot in the door. he had to lean tad right to win...

Here's the hurdle that Saccone faces:
Pennsylvania Sec. of State spokesperson Wanda Murren tells CNN that b/c this is a district race & not statewide, there is no mandatory recount here. Petitions are allowed, which require 3 voters in each precinct; have 5 days to file after the county completes its computation.

There has been about a 17-point swing to the Democrats in special elections over the past year.
In 2006, when the Republicans lost Congress, there was a 15-point swing towards the Democrats.
So yes, these results raise the possibility of a Democratic wave in November.

Interesting to look at the difference between this special election and the one in the somewhat less red Georgia 6th district last June. Maybe it's partly that Lamb ran a better campaign than Ossoff, but even if so, I suspect a bigger difference is that after nine more months of Trump there are just more people who are disaffected by the Republicans and want to vote for a Democrat.

It makes sense, if you are a Dem and can win in the red part of the state, winning statewide isn't so hard. Most places in PA will be easier than what he's already done. Unless Wolf runs, the dem nomination for Senate is Lambs to lose. And he's clearly ambitious.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | March 14, 2018 1:20 PM |
R177, the irony of course is that Tim Ryan as Speaker would take the Dems into more conservative territory. The Dem leaders must be more liberal than the Dem Caucus. A conservative Dem leader would be a disaster for the party and if it is between Pelosi and a blue dog like Tim Ryan, we should be so lucky to get Pelosi.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | March 14, 2018 1:41 PM |
Pelosi's actual positions perfectly square with the mainstreamโnot just the Democratic base, but overall with the center in America (health care, Social Security, regulation of banks, etc.), however the far-right 30% might feel. Her demonization by Republicans is basically propaganda, straw-man appeals, and dog-whistling ("San Francisco liberal!").

by Anonymous | reply 224 | March 14, 2018 2:07 PM |
Dems are lucky to have a leader as liberal as Pelosi. I agree on the issues she's excellent.
What some (and trolls) don't understand is that any politician that joins leadership of either party will inevitably come to embody that party in the oppositions mind and their negatives will spike up. It's true for literally all of them within months of joining leadership. Paul Ryan is young, handsome, and charismatic. But his favorables are the exact same as Pelosi, he just has them because he is speaker and for no other reason. Replace Pelosi with any dem and their ratings will instantly crater too, nature of the game
by Anonymous | reply 225 | March 14, 2018 2:09 PM |
You're wrong, R196. I was there. We have a Republican Congress in 2010 not because of Obamacare, on the contrary, but because the economy was very much on people's minds and Obama's people were so busy trying to sing choruses of "How great thou art" to him they forgot messaging and allowed the GOP to doinate the discussion and completely abandoned talking about the economy until October. There's a very good book written by David Corn, called Showdown, and it is seminal. Read it and learn something. I put the blame for 2010, strictly on the backs of David Axelrod who is a piece of shit, and Rahm Emanuel.
Nancy Pelosi is the reason why Barack Obama got anything done in 2009, 2010. They demonize her because they can't stand losing to a woman. Pelosi was one of the most effective Speakers of the House we have ever had.
And both Pelosi and Feinstein have balls. Yes. I guess there are a lot of men out here, and even some women who can't stand women who are actual dealmakers and who know how to play the great game as good as the guys, and probably better.
For too long the Speaker's chair has been the province of men. Some of them were great like Sam Rayburn. But many of them were hacks. People crow about Tip O' Neill because he "got along with Reagan." But Reagan did a lot of harm.
Rahm Emanuel was an abrasive asshole. When he was in Congress he resisted Howard Dean, who was DNC Chair, and wanted a 50 state strategy. Emanuel was chair oc the DCCC, and wanted to select certain races and pour money into them. They were both fundraising and Emanuel had a public fight with Dean. But Dean was right and we won Congress in 2006, because of him and Joe Trippi.
As Chief of Staff for Obama Rahm was like a bull in a china shop. He arrogantly pronounced Obamacare dead in the water and said it could never pass until the next session. Pelosi defied him, met with Obama and insisted they try for it. Thank goodness.
Pelosi is a seasoned veteran with a lot of chits for favors in her pocket. She has history with a lot of people inside and outside government. People who demonize her are the same ones who go after Elizabeth Warren, Diane Feinstein, and other women who assert themselves.
The GOP wants to divide and disrupt and when they can get us to do it for them it's even better. As a matter of fact, when the fuckers start slinging mud at Pelosi, we need to change the subject and focus on the real slime and there is plenty of it in the GOP Congress and the White House.
We need to fight smart. to think they offer someone as completely corrupt and INCOMPETENT as Paul Ryan as an alternative to Nancy Pelosi is insulting. And because of what the Speaker's job requires we cannot afford someone without the history and the experience of someone younger and prettier.
We need a seasoned politician to be Speaker of the House. Because its the Speaker's job to be effective in managing the entire House of Representatives. . All of Congress not just the Democrats. Just because Ryan choses not to interact with the Dems doesn't make it right.
Since the Speaker is next after the VP in the line of succession, I guess the dinosaurs believe the Speaker needs to have a dick. Perish the thought that a woman walk into the White House as POTUS.

Impeachment was off the table for two reasons. R236. First, nothing would have got done. Impeachment hearings and the process would have dominated Congress. Completely distracting us from what was really happening in the world. Looking backwards was not an option. We were in a financial crisis. Remember? We were losing jobs y the millions. Businesses were going bankrupt and people were losing their homes. Remember? So Obama's Presidency would not be about Obama and his platform, it would have been about Bush and Cheney. Secondly, Pelosi knew she could not win an impeachment proceeding in the Senate. Yes she had the votes on the Dem side, but She is old school. She believes impeachment is serious. It's a big deal. And it ought to be Bi-Partisan. Ordinarily I'd agree, but in Trump's case I think I can put that aside. LOL! I think while the decision was unpopular, it was wise. We can't have knee jerk reactions from Congress playing to the cheap seats. We need deliberate focused leadership.

R215, if I recall Ossoff was more progressive in a conservative district. What was done correctly here was Conor ran as a centrist. A progressive running here wouldn't have won.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | March 14, 2018 4:01 PM |
It's safe to say now that we have won a special, but Ossoff was a joke candidate. I wouldn't want to vote for him if it was my district. Young and attractive but no substance. He was just a congressional staffer who made movies. We don't support Handel's views but she was a least highly experienced and even served on the Susan G Komen foundation.
Conor Lamb was a marine and a federal prosecutor. I'm MUCH more comfortable with someone like that representing me.

by Anonymous | reply 257 | March 14, 2018 4:13 PM |
Also, remember that Ossof might have been hurt from Republicans actually cheating. Remember how in the lead up to the election certain voting machines went "missing"... The person incharged only notified the office secretary until days later. People forget that a lot of funny incidents took place days before that election.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | March 14, 2018 4:14 PM |
I'm skeptical not living in the district mattered to people. He was born and raised there and lived right next to it.
Let me be clear, I would have voted for Ossoff and considered it an easy vote. BUT I in general would not like someone as inexperienced as Ossoff representing me. I'd have supported a different Dem in the primary. Someone asked why Lamb won and Ossoff didn't. I think the reason was clearly candidate quality. Most people in GA6 aren't nearly as liberal as us so the resume's mattered and hers was much longer.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | March 14, 2018 4:14 PM |

R236, Alamo didn't campaign on Universal Healthcare ala Bernie Sanders. He campaigned on stabizing Obamacare. He also campaigned in support of the steel tariffs.
And just this morning he was asked about Trump's campaigning for Saccone and he said something to the effect that by the time Trump campaigned here there was already fatigue for that style of campaigning. I'll try to find the quote.
So, R234 very well may be correct.

Age played a factor in Ossof's campaign race. Politics is probably the only field where reverse age discrimination comes into play, and where 30-something is seen as too young. Glad to see it didn't play much of a factor in Lamb's case.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | March 14, 2018 4:23 PM |
Handel was and is Trupanista who was really hated by the State GOP. She was a bad candidate. But people at that time had no idea Trump would be quite as bad as he's turned out to be The State GOP got behind Handel late. She had Paul Ryan, Pence and even Trump come in to campaign for her. She has a bad track record and her time with the Komen foundation is nothing to brag about. In fact quite to opposite. Ossoff had thin credentials, and I believe his reluctance to move into the district hurt him. It was just something the GOP could point to and it worked. I live in the district and I can tell you Handel was a piece of shit even before she decided to run for Congress.

Especially if he lived most of his life inside the district. He was a product of it.
I just want a Dem who has made some kind of impact in the world. Managed a staff. Had to work with rivals and balance priorities. Ossoff didn't have any of that yet. He would have been a loyal Dem, and thus an easy vote, but I don't believe he would have been an effective advocate for the district in congress.

Connor Lamb won where there are significantly more Registered Republicans than Democrats. This means that registered republicans voted for connor lamb.
Also, saccone is already an elected republican official there, so he was a local name brand. He lost against a democrat. This is major.
Another thing is Saccone ran on anti union/labor, but with the Right to Work BS, just like paul ryan. people there are aware now, there are still no more secure jobs with great benefits. This means that BS is OVER. Republicans have nothing, just pathological lies and chaos.
On January 31, 2012, Komen stopped funding Planned Parenthood, citing a congressional investigation by Rep. Cliff Stearns and a newly created internal rule about not funding organizations under any federal, state or local investigation. Four days later, Komen's Board of Directors reversed the decision and announced that it would amend the policy to "make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political". Several top-level staff members resigned from Komen during the controversy. In January, 2014 it was reported that the foundation saw a decline of 22% in contributions in the year following their decision to cease (and then continue) funding for Planned Parenthood.

PA-18 and GA-06 aren't the same district even if the vote spread in 2016 was similar.
PA 18th: 94.28% White, 2.36% Black, 1.63% Asian Partly Coal mine country
GA-06: 72.4% White, 13.4% Black, 9.3% Asian, 11.8% Hispanic Largely suburban Atlanta
In the Southโeven the โeducatedโ suburban South of a teeming multicultural metropolis like Atlantaโracial dynamics and party dynamics overlap in inescapable ways. White people generally donโt vote for the Democratic Party in Georgia, or any other Southern state. The idea that a coalition of educated suburban whites would actually team up with black voters to send a message to Donald Trump from Georgia was a fantasy created by the blue screen and CGI of outside Democratic analysts who want a happy ending to the Trump narrative in eight months.

I have to say that with Ossoff, he hit his ceiling in the primary at about 48% and he never grew beyond that. I while I know for a fact the GOP here pounded on him for not living in his district, (even though yes he was raised in the district all his life and was only living outside the district a few blocks) so his girlfriend could finish Med school) I also think R270 is right, in terms of his credentials being thing. Being a filmmaker didn't impress a lot of people. Nevertheless, Ossoff could have won if he had grown his base just a bit more. I do believe that some of the people who voted for Handel even with her disgustingly homophobic comments on a live TV interview, did it because they were not yet ready to distance themselves from Trump. Ossoff ran early in 2017. In April I believe.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | March 14, 2018 8:58 PM |

She's not wrong, r327, Bernie's single payer plan failed in Vermont because they couldn't get the financials to work. by Anonymous | reply 328 | March 14, 2018 9:45 PM |
Democrats should be out there focusing their energies on strengthening and shoring up the Affordable Care Act, which is more popular than ever. We should be talking about the government and insurance companies working together to give healthcare to all, with the inclusion of a Public Option for people who need it, not that Single Payer pipedream. Talk about real solutions that Americans can get behind.

Fucking Deplorable misogynistic Berniebot.
Since when is the speaker of the House responsible for helping elect congress seats? That honor went to President Obama who ignored the congressional races and refused to campaigned for them and the poor leadership of the DNC committee.
Bernie did not present a single payer plan, he only presented a fucking one page draft after all the noise he did. Worse, he deliberately presented his draft at the end of the session when he knew that if shut down it would be the end of it with no possibility of coming back. He went against the advice of his colleagues who dvised him not to take the bill to the floor until they had prepared a proper bill with estimates and cost and to wait for the new congressional session to start.
Unlike Bernie, Nancy is on record for pushing single payer and actually presenting a presentable bill to congress. Obamacare, which in reality should be called [bold]Pelosicare[/bold], was her pet project. And what did Obama do when the Dems became unpopular once they passed Obamacare? The president refused to campaign for them even though the polls showed people we going to vote them out for passing the ACA.

by Anonymous | reply 355 | March 15, 2018 1:45 PM |
R351 is essentially correct. But the problem with Obama and his staff, and I blame the staff more than I blame him, is that they lost control of messaging early on. In 2009, they allowed the fucking Republicans to define the terms of the debate around Obamacare. The death panels, the lies about losing control of your healthcare decisions, etc. were embedded in voters' minds and it was really difficult to dispel them. At first Obama seemed incredulous, like "C'mon, man, you don't really believe that BS do you?" but they did.
He was very poorly advised in 2009. People were still reeling from the economic crisis and yet his people ignored it as an issue actually persuading him to talk about how much better things were getting. Well, they were getting better, incrementally, but there were way too many people who were still in crisis . Finally, as for messaging, neither Obama nor his staffers knew how to sell his achievements.
I remember when Bill Clinton spoke at the 2012 convention and he did one hell of a job selling Obama. Obama acknowledged it calling him the "Explainer in Chief." It wasn't that "Obama refused to campaign" in 2010, he was convinced by his staff and by internal polling, that in many of these races, his presence would hurt not help the candidate. This was bullshit. But he not only didn't get out there until mid October, he did nothing to assist in rebuilding the DNC or helping the party..
Biden was the old style Politician, but he couldn't do it alone. Back then prior to the 2010 election Biden wasn't as popular as he later became. He was popular, but he wasn't at his apex yet. There is a lesson in that. It never works when you bring in the guys who helped you campaign. Axelrod and Emanuel were a disaster, and Plouffe knew it wasn't working and left early.

I remember one of his advisors once said, that he was so damned smart, so politically brilliant, that he made things difficult for himself, like, "OK Let's see if I can do this with one hand tied behind my back." He could be his own worst enemy, as we have seen, but when it came to reading the political tea leaves, dealing with Congress, etc. He was the Best. Not since LBJ, was there anyone more effective politically , as POTUS.

So Arizona is the next big special election? What are Democrats' chances there?
by Anonymous | reply 370 | March 15, 2018 6:23 PM |
it's a strong Republican district, R370, that Trump won by 21%. And the Republican candidate, Debbie Lesko, doesn't appear to have the problems that Saccone did, while the Democratic candidate, Hiral Tipirneni (a political newcomer) doesn't perhaps have quite the appeal that Lamb did. The PA district had quite a few Democratic voters registered; the Arizona district not so much, with 187,129 Republicans, 109,555 Democrats, and 154,764 not registered to a particular party. The prior Representative didn't face a Democratic challenger in 2014 or 2016.
The seat is listed as "Safe Republican," so it's pretty unlikely that Tipirneni can pull this out.

MONDAY SPIN: Lamb is a tax-hiking, gun-grabbing Pelosi clone who will let illegal immigrants slaughter your unborn children.
WEDNESDAY SPIN: Look, heโs basically a Republican.

Sounds like the Arizona district could be 50/50. Aren't there primaries in Ohio and Missouri too?
by Anonymous | reply 373 | March 15, 2018 6:39 PM |
Probably, R373, but I'm guessing those are just primaries for the fall elections. Ballotpedia says that the next special elections are:
Arizona, 8th District, April 24th. Rated "Safe Republican" so not really 50/50.
Ohio, 12th District, August 7th. This was recently shifted from "Safe Republican" to "Likely Republican," so a possibility of an upset here. A Democrat hasn't represented this district since 1980.
Michigan, 13th District, November 6th. Rated "Safe Democratic."
That last one isn't being held until November because the chicken-shit Republican governor won't hold the special election to replace John Conyers until the regularly-scheduled election day, most likely because he doesn't want a Democrat to win and to be in Congress for the next 9 months. So on November 6th, they'll hold two elections for Michigan's 13th district, the special election to decide who will serve in the lame duck Congress for a couple of months and the regular election to decide who will serve in the next two-year term. In the meantime, that district has no Congressional representation.

LOL the Repubs fucked up
County spokeswoman Amie Downs said that on Election Day there had been discussions with Republican attorneys about their ability to oversee the vote-counting process. Under the state Election Code, she said, such observers must have a signed authorization from the chair of the county committee. "They didn't produce that until the very end of the evening, when the ballots had already been scanned," she said.
Mark Wolosik, who directs the county's elections office, said that late Tuesday morning, โa call came in asking about people being able to observe the [counting] process on Election Night."
Usually, he said, "people ask ahead of time" rather than on Election Day itself.

It was all done with electronic voting. Any "recount" would just be the machine spitting out the vote counts again.
[R236], Alamo didn't campaign on Universal Healthcare a la Bernie Sanders.
Yeah, and sanders lost the primary by a country mile AND tore apart the party enough to damage Clinton enough to lose in the general!
Stein-bots and Bern-it-downers have already doubled down and will NEVER be satisfied until they can clone Zephyr Teachout and have her lose by a landslide in EVERY ONE of the 435 Congressional districts!
Democrat Conor Lamb announced Wednesday that his Republican opponent, Rick Saccone, has conceded in the close special election last week for Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District.
"Just got off the phone with my opponent, @RickSaccone4PA, who congratulated me & graciously conceded last Tuesday's election," Lamb tweeted Wednesday. "I congratulate Mr. Saccone for a close, hard-fought race & wish him the best. Ready to be sworn in & get to work for the people of #PA18."
Former Saccone campaign spokesman Patrick McCann said he had spoken to Saccone's team Tuesday. "The tweet is accurate," he said.
How big of a pussy is Saccone?

r391 It would be pointless to drag it out, they're both running for congress again in different districts.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | March 22, 2018 1:43 AM |
No, why couldn't Saccone concede in public like most candidates do?
