I personally don't care about the photoshopping. I assume all the celebrities photoshop and airbrush their Oscar photos, and we know SH and TB were there (more or less) together, regardless. We know it's a contracted relationship and we don't need close ups of their armpits to understand that. JMO. I know some people like to have fun with the photos.

R23, I think he signed with JA just before the bearding started with MM. She's known to have a little specialty managing PR gay clients (and she herself is gay).

Before MM, Sam had the big showmance, of course, which wasn't low-key at all, but was hugely deniable as part of the show PR, but has led to the current messiness. I can see why Cait backed out of that one, not just for her boyfriend's but her own - she's still asked about their chemistry, even as she's at the GG where she, not he, is nominated.

There was a series of red carpet dates and women he was "linked to" via photos and social media. One was a friend. One was a thirsty HW blonde. But yeah, it was all less focused than the current campaign which has included the Just Jared pieces and more consistency. Which followed the big Cait/Sam denial and the world tour with Luke in tow.

That's fair, R41. I don't know Greer's politics. MM gets a lot of shit for her family's religion and politics but she herself seems to be more liberal (at least in her pronouncements, Hollywood-style; who knows if she thinks hard about it).

So, not bashing them for their family's views, they do come across as basic in their views and lifestyle. Lots of selfies. Drinking and eating and exercising and living the #blessed life in beautiful locations.

Does Sam envy that world? He obviously wants something from Hollywood. Opportunity for more roles, money makes life easier, he likes nice things like his Audi, he does seem to like being hot, being looked at. He also attends his mother's art events and posts videos from Mhairi Black, and he seems happiest when with his gym buddies (mostly guys and and lesbians) or running, or hiking, or attending sport events with his nephew, and running his many ventures like MPC. There's a down-to-earth aspect to being in Scotland where people don't worship celebrity and they'll let you know that, and as ambitious as he is, he seems happier there. He seems a bit like a fish in the wrong waters in Hollywood whereas it's TB's natural habitat.

Just my observations. I don't know any of them personally. Just a regular person watching and guessing from afar through the prisms of social media and PR, both of which distort everything.

r50. He did not get a lot of coverage, even in his UK/Europe home market, for his late time arrival slot at the VF party. Speaking of coming up from the depths, I'm reminded of this rare moment when Heughan emerged briefly from the sunken place...

I love some of his old gym videos too, where he's boxing, though it's really more like swatting. That Alexander trailer someone posted where he's trying fight with a sword is pretty funny as well. He's clearly received a lot of fight training since for Outlander. No more swatting for Sam. :)

He is a Sport addicted and talented. He has a license as a fencing instructor and his first attempts playing golf looked not that Bad. He knows, how to use a Tennis racket.

His horse riding skills, well people with long legs always look good on a horse, when they have some muscular and body tention. He is not the greatest horseman, but during the S1 boot camp, he looked much, much better than Menzies and Balfe on a horse.

He is sportive of course, but watching him besides manly John Valbonesi gives you always the feeling, that well... He looks like me doing the exercises.. Longtime lesbian friend Marina looks spreads definetly more masculine vibes than him. This is no offense, it is just like my receptors receive it.

Yes, that's a good description of Jamie, and Sam does well* with this unicorn character, the one all the straight women want their husbands and boyfriends to be. The one who is strong and sexy and brave but also sensitive, who adores his wife's beauty and strengths and pays attention to what she says. This unicorn ideal is why so many straight women have gay BFFs alongside their husbands, btw. Because their husbands don't notice their haircuts or outfits; in fact their husbands don't listen well at all nor care about the things they care about. Exaggeration maybe, and no doubt there are exceptions, but this is why women love Jamie and also why he's a unicorn. And Sam with his physique and deep voice and sensitive eyes can play him.

*I do think we saw some combination of uneven acting and poor writing / editing for Sam's character in S3. He gets the cheesiest lines from the book and his better scenes are edited out. We're also seeing the limitations of romance fiction being transferred to the screen; they should adapt the story, but also the books have terrible plots and their biggest strength is in scene-setting and descriptive writing, which doesn't translate to TV. But (I know! This isn't an OL thread!) Sam's unicorn character especially shows the strain of these problems.

I guess we here mostly agree we'd love to see him back in British TV and theater, both for being able to come back out but also to showcase his strengths. However, he is choosing to pursue other things -- at least for now. I tend to disagree with R51 that there won't be a Season 5; I think it's making money for Starz and keeping their subscriber base and app sales on target. I think they have the two stars on lock until 2020 (7 years since 2013), so that's potentially two more seasons.

To be clear, I don't know anything :). We may know more after the Emmy event later this month.

I do think that regardless of an OL S5/S6 renewal, it will be several years before he thinks of coming back out. Either OL or pursuing what he can in HW. Maybe in his 40s he'll reconsider.

So, you are right that 2020 his contract is expiring. But this will be at the first quarter of 2020. They will shoot S 4 probably until end June 2018 as we know from the call for native people from Canada as Statisten. Then there will be all the editing before S4 will air around end September 2018.

If, and If they want to have a S5, they have should started to look for locations and writers last November 2017.' Nothing popped up on any inside magazin until today.

And then is there one other really significant thing, which nobody of us fan folks has on his screen:

The whole OL production gets or got a very large amount of subsidy from the EU. Tall Ship Produktions is owned by RDM.

Side note, I wonder how Brexit will affect the Scottish independence movement - which Sam and a number of the other Scottish actors on the show have said they support.

As for OL renewal - again, I'm a civilian who knows nothing .... just speculating. We may hear more soon. I don't know that they would have to scout new scenes given that the story would be anchored on Fraser's Ridge going forward and they'll have that in place. No need for ships or Paris.

Building a complete studio with two soundstages in a lost place of a former, now lost industry in the middle of a structurally weak Region is the Jackpot for money from the gouvernement and EU.

So. Now we come to the BREXIT. The UK is in the middle of a very nasty right about money with the EU, when the UK really wants to make BREXIT real. We are talking about 60 Milliards (60.000.000.000) which is 6000 K millions for our US Posters here (you call it 60 Billions).

This is the money the EU wants to HAVE.

So this means in the consequence, no more subsidy for the UK and TSP and Sony and Left Bank pictures. No more Sponsoring money or cheap credots for the filming in process or for Investments in the Cumbernauld Studios. No tax reducing for the profits they make. No special treats for using national monuments sites.

All that factors will increase the costs of a show, which had reached it peaks two years ago..

So no S 5 in my opinion.

Hi R80, to clarify, I believe your facts; I just think we don't fully know yet how it play out in terms of Brexit and trade agreements and Scotland in particular -- there are hands yet to be played. Certainly Theresa May + team have made a hash of it so far. My point was more about feeling for the Scottish government and people and in this case, the film industry workers. They didn't vote for this mess. (And maybe this will lead to another push for independence.)

Yes, absolutely devastated here about Brexit - my opinion: bunch of uneducated Sun/Daily Mail reading Neanderthals who have put us in this situation, and yes, Scotland voted in the majority to remain. Re Scottish independence, of which I am an advocate, independence voters feel duped by this. Brexit was THE material change which gives the Scottish Government a mandate for a new independence referendum......but those against independence just feel we should shut up and get on with it. It's frustrating, upsetting and causing great tensions among different groups.

WRT to the EU subsidies for UK/scotland productions such as Outlander, yes, post Brexit these would be gone.....however, Brexit does not preclude the UK Govt (or pleeeeaaase the Scottish Govt should they be allowed such powers) putting similar subsidy, or at least tax relief systems in place. If it were down to the Scottish govt alone, I know there would be great appetite for supporting and retaining these types of productions......however Westminster are Kern, consciously or subconsciously, to screw Scotland at nearly every turn....this will be no different. This is not a high priority. Brexit is a massive fuck up, one that Theresa May does not even support...but has to progress. The "whims and moans"of the Scottish Govt and Welsh Assembly are something they need to steamroll......quickly. Nothing we've not been used to for the last 300 years 😢

As an America-born-and-raised person with many British connections, I am continually amazed by the casual anti-Welsh, anti-Scottish, and anti-Irish sentiment that persists to this day among English people, not even just the Little Englanders and the working-class in the coal fields who got screwed over by Thatcher, but by Oxbridge- and Durham-educated professionals in London. And the English tabloid -and- BBC treatment of the Scottish nationalist movement, which ironically tends to be pro-immigration and open to the world, especially Europe, is a disgrace.

I am the one, who tried to explain at r78, why there are also political influenced issues, and now they add to our, already very well discussed reasons, that there will probably no S5.

To make it clear, this is not Sam's or CB fault.

On my left part of my shield of paper are (not sorted by relevance):

- lack of a storyline in book 5 and ff.

- an oulttold story after the complete family reunited/united.

- decreasing viewers on S 3 (due to no longer a scottish based story)

- Bad scripts, Bad editing in S3

- the good writers/directory esp. the female ones mobbed out/moving on

- contracts of the leads ending 2020

- leads are burned outor bored due to bad scripts

- leads facing, that their time frame to move on gets smaller every day they stay on the show

- RDM already heading to a new project 18 months ago

- upcoming BREXIT with not only the financial issues. It is also about needing visas for the non UK actors, when UK leaving the EU and Schengen treaty.

And probably another 20 reasons others here will see and post.

He may have a better sense after the movie is released this summer. Hopefully he's getting some love out of the spotlight. One of the problems with the closet though is that it's hard to build a relationship on the down-low. Something just came to my mind when watching Interviews with Sam during his Batman live time.

A couple of years ago there was a feature in one of the leading german newspapers//magazines (sorry cant remember where) about how young male adults or pubertan identify, see and recognize gays. There were a lot of different and longwinded answers. The author himself is gay.

So, it was an long article in those supplement magazin. And then, the author stepped over a 16 year old, who summarized the whole question like this: with a couple of attributes. Unfortunately i cant remember all of them.

So this young male subsummarized:: "They listen to ABBA and Erasure,....., ....., they always wear V-neck shirts or pullovers, they store their sunglasses in the V-neck and they are always in accompaniment, when not with their partners, of their best girlfriend, which is neither a straight and always overweighted girl or an out lesbian.

So, the gay author had to admit, that this was the most pointed observated answer he ever got. And to find himself in this description. The author then claimed, that this are all stereotypes, but young straight male hit the nail.

My guess is this will be a box office hit in the US, though not at the level of an actual action movie.

Bad acting isn't an element of "spoof." Farce, comedic situations, etc. are. We haven't seen enough of Sam's acting from Spy to determine if it will help him advance in the industry or not. But his acting is cringe-worthy in When the Starlight Ends, and decision-makers will be well aware of that before casting him in anything. In addition, up-and-comers like James Norton currently starring in McMafia have a better shot at Bond than Sam.

He needs to spend some of his millions on a dialect coach, and while he's at it, a suit that fits and a decent stylist.

I think it must be the Starz execs who are behind the Jennifer Allen PR and the bearding.
