I think you are assuming these people are more analytical and rational than they are. Look at all Efrons box office failures. He still gets parts easily because he's likable and popular with producers. Actors know more than half their job is networking. Roles are absolutely handed out like candy in some movies.

I can believe this. When all the stories came out about him assaulting/harassing women, there were also some about him being really aggressive with and humiliating men too. Rape and sexual harassment is all about power and humiliation
