Any good gossip from this show? I'm binge watching it on Amazon Prime. You can tell it wasn't a happy set.
Grace Under Fire
by Anonymous | reply 114 | April 21, 2018 6:11 PM |
Well, for starters Brett flashed the UNDERAGE BOY who played her son.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 4, 2018 8:51 PM |
I wonder why they dumped the character of Hope as a series regular?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 4, 2018 8:52 PM |
The first kid who played her son (the one she flashed) recently died.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 4, 2018 8:58 PM |
Is the fat fuck who played Jean still alive? Btw did anyone else find it bizarre that she would move in with Grace?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 4, 2018 9:00 PM |
That fat fuck used to do Supporting roles on I love lucy.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 4, 2018 9:06 PM |
Brett and Dave Thomas used to improvise a lot of their scenes which pissed off Chuck Lorre.
Most of the DL favorites who appeared as guest stars was because Brett insisted on their casting wanting to work with people she grew up watching.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 4, 2018 9:13 PM |
Once the Murphy Brown and Cybill reboots become hits, this show is next.

by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 5, 2018 2:38 PM |
I wonder how much Brett makes off of the syndication? That's probably the only reason they did that last season-to surpass 100 episodes.

Peggy Rea was a working character actress. Look at her bio. She was in everything starting from I Love Lucy. She was Margo Martindale before there was a Margo Martindale.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 5, 2018 2:54 PM |
Brett was addicted to drugs and alcohol for most of the shows run and it cause major issues on set. Julie White quit the show because she couldn't stand working with Butler
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 5, 2018 3:05 PM |
R10 is correct about keeping the show on until the magic 100 episode syndication number. Brett flashed her newly done tits to the first actor who played Quentin which facilitated his departure. The supporting cast including Peggy rea did most of the heavy lifting the last 2 years of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 5, 2018 4:13 PM |
[quote] I wonder how much Brett makes off of the syndication?
Where on earth is Grace Under Fire syndicated?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 5, 2018 4:24 PM |
In the syndication version they replaced the Arthea Franklin version in the first three years, with the generic opening used in the last two years.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 5, 2018 5:05 PM |
r14 It's on the LAFF Network for two hours every weekday morning.

I knew Casey Sander (who played Wade) — nice guy, former baseball player, completely straight. Oh, and he chewed tobacco. Don't know how his girlfriends stood it.

^ Cousin Sven!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 5, 2018 10:42 PM |
It was kinda funny at first but ran out of gas pretty quickly.
Like the rest of ABC's comedy lineup, it was an attempt to duplicate the success of Roseanne. They didn't treat Brett or Margaret Cho very well.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 5, 2018 10:44 PM |
The premise of the sitcom was all wrong for Brett Butler. Yes, they really were trying to duplicate Roseanne, but having Butler as a blue-collar single mom raising kids was just not tailored to her talents. If you saw her stand-up from the early 90s she was very funny and acerbic, the format of the show should have been more faithful to her stand up.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 5, 2018 11:08 PM |
The final episode has to be seen to be believed. Brett with her hair slicked back in ten pounds of oil, mumbling her lines, clearly high as a kite. Poor Julia Duffy was brought in to play a wacky friend who becomes Grace's roommate. The whole thing is bizarre with everyone acting while ignoring the doped up elephant in the room who just happens to be the star of the show. And then they add a blooper reel at the end, to remind you that there were even worse fuck ups that happened.
BTW, Julia Duffy really had the worst fucking luck of any working actor or actress post Newhart. I'm stunned she didn't quit the business at some point.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 5, 2018 11:15 PM |
Julia did quit the business, I assume.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 6, 2018 12:41 AM |
I remember an early episode where Brett talks to her son about his dad. She tells him that the day he was born was the happiest day of his life and it's hard for him to express his feelings. A moment where a mother could have engaged in stereotypical man bashing but instead, she thought of her son and tried to comfort him. I thought it was an extraordinary moment.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 6, 2018 12:51 AM |
Isn't Julia Duffy married to that hottie Jerry Lacy (Rev. Trask)?
I watched The Grace Under Fire for the cousin who was gay but the family was so aghast at the idea of claiming a 'mo that they maintained the total flamer was straight.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 6, 2018 1:00 AM |
Duffy still pops up on stuff. She was on Looking and has a number of other iMDB credits.
R21 you are right! I only watched it sporadically in the 90s so I never caught the final episode. What a fucking mess! Clocks in at only 19 minutes (4 sorry of what was typical back then). Brett mumbles through all of her lines and is clearly having problems standing up. It's on Amazon prime - week worth a watch if only for the car wreck.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 6, 2018 1:45 AM |
Peggy Rea was quite wonderful.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 6, 2018 3:22 AM |
To the swine upthread: the sweet, talented woman who played Jean is NOT still alive
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 6, 2018 3:10 PM |
You can't really compare to Roseanne. Roseanne stood up to those who opposed her and she had John Goodman and Laure Metcalf ready to walk if she didn't get her way. So Roseanne had a lot more control of her show than Brett had. If Brett threated to walk it would have become "The Peggy Rea" show, much like it did with The Waltons when Michael Learned left.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 6, 2018 3:17 PM |
R27 IThanks for that link - I couldn't place her before. Cousin Rose, and the two kids brought in to try and save The Walton's when Michael Learned left the show.
Brett had too much fame way too fast., and that destroyed her career. She butted heads with Chuck Lorre, and most everyone on her show. She needed a handler to keep her off the drugs and booze, and keep her ego in check. I liked her show, and think she is still incredibly funny. She's come back to social media, and is getting her career back on track - was on HTGAWM not that long ago, and she's writing another book. She also does readings for people - I've thought about doing one just to talk to her on the phone for an hour.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 6, 2018 3:29 PM |
Brett Butler was such a drugged-up nightmare on that set that Julie White left the show. It's rare for an actor/actress to leave a hit show and the huge paychecks and exposure it gives.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 6, 2018 4:18 PM |

Thanks, r21. I just watched it on Amazon Prime. You're not exaggerating. The plot is incoherent — it looks like they were rewriting on the fly and stitched it together with whatever footage was halfway passable.
Butler is literally incoherent in the first scene and doesn't seem to know where she is, and she's wearing a strange enormous coat, like she didn't want to get into wardrobe and they just threw this thing over her in desperation. She also looks like she chopped off her hair at home and wouldn't let anyone style it, so they just oiled it and brushed it back.

R19 The last 2 seasons were pretty terrible. Almost bleak. You could really tell it was a dysfunctional, unhappy set.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 9, 2018 9:51 PM |
R31 Just watched it too. What. The. Fuck. How did they explain Nadine's absence? I don't recall.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 9, 2018 9:53 PM |
R21, where could I find this last episode you speak of to find it online if it is there? I don't even know how I would frame the question for the search engine.

R34 Amazon Prime Video
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 9, 2018 11:18 PM |
R31, I have amazone prime. Can you identify for me the name of that last episode, or provide a link to it? Thankx
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 9, 2018 11:19 PM |
R36 The episode name is "Down in the Boondocks". Search Grace Under Fire and look under Season 5.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 9, 2018 11:26 PM |
thank you r36
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 9, 2018 11:32 PM |
Just go to Amazon Prime, search "Grace Under Fire," go to season 5 and it's the last episode.
I may watch it again this weekend. That first scene — Brett Butler can't even deliver her lines toward the audience. It's so strange to see Julia Duffy turn in a regular performance, like her scene partner isn't a drugged-out, mumbling zombie.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 9, 2018 11:33 PM |
It's on u tube. I can't even say the channel name my post gets blocked. Tried to post the link but nooooooooooooooooo.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 10, 2018 12:05 AM |
Youtube doesn't actually have it, it links to a pay site.
Amazon Prime apparently no longer has it in the free to stream section.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 10, 2018 12:05 AM |
Jan Hooks as an insane and abusive Brett Butler in "An Affair to Remeber" with Martin Short as Tim Burton directing! I wonder if they did this sketch because they knew that the Grace Under Fire set was a miserable one. Either way, it's hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 10, 2018 1:14 AM |
Brett Butler was a mumbling mess, obviously under the influence of something and didn't know what to do on that stage, her movements were very awkward. I'm surprised the network ever let that episode air.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 10, 2018 1:24 AM |
The final episode, "Down in the Boondocks," airs Monday, March 12 at 7:30AM (Pacific) on the LAFF network (broadcast; check your local listings.) To see the dramatic change, the pilot episode airs the following day at 6:00AM (Pacific.)

Grace under fire is still on Amazon Prime. I'm watching the last episode now, wow Brett is so messed up you can't understand her at all. Thank goodness for subtitles!

I saw Butler guest on a sitcom as a bartender, forget what it was, but she looks like she has acromegaly.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 10, 2018 3:30 AM |
I think the dotard who cannot find or watch the episode, despite it being linked & also clearly available on Amazon, may be Brett herself.
Dave Thomas was just on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast this week. He said that the problem with her was that she was just plain crazy beneath all the drugs and alcohol. Basically, a hopeless case. I think it's a safe bet that there won't be a reboot of her show, at least with him involved.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 10, 2018 3:32 AM |
This is the Gilbert Gottried podcast with Dave Thomas. He starts talking about Brett around the 1:22 mark.

by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 11, 2018 9:56 PM |
CBS did a stunt where the CSI writers did an episode of 2 1/2 Men and Chuck Lorre did an episode of CSI. The episode he wrote was clearly him working through some frustration about Roseanne, Cybil Shepard, and Brett.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 11, 2018 11:00 PM |
That CSI episode was very good. Katey Sagal played the insane bitch actress, which was clearly based on Brett.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 11, 2018 11:05 PM |
I also remember the show she starred on had a logo with the same font as Roseanne.
The character was supposed to be sober as a condition of the show continuing, and to avoid stopping drinking, she would shove vodka-soaked tampons up her ass or her twat or something.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 11, 2018 11:25 PM |

Thanks r73 and others. That makes sense. Maybe it has something to do with that thread that got deleted early this evening about the helicopter crash in New York. The OP of that thread said he hoped all the victims were Trump deplorables. The next 20 or 30 posts were vicious diatribes about wishing death on anyone before the thread got on topic about the crash.
And then it died.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 12, 2018 4:58 AM |
She cut her hair s few episodes before the end
Chuck Lorre was the common denominator in all the casts where the stars went crazy. He's an alcoholic and a self-hating Jew who creates shows where ugly little lizard Jews who spew lines about spewing bodily fluids inexplicably get to sleep with blonde girls, or shows that attack working class whites.

Brett Butler does psychic readings now.

If you see the original version linked above, there's like 3 minutes of bloopers. Clearly production sut down at some point during the episode and they just used what they had, and made it a full episode with bloopers. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 12, 2018 5:04 PM |

[quote]Does anyone know the name, or have a link to that CSI episode? I hadn't heard about that crossover before, and it sounds interesting.
The episode is called "Two and a Half Deaths." It's not really a crossover, it was just a stunt where Lorre wrote the CSI episode (Sheen and Cryer cameo, as the CSIs visit the backlot where the show-within-a-show is filmed) and the CSI writers did an episode for the other show called "Fish in a Drawer."
The crazy actress seems to be mostly based on Brett, but she also has a husband/manager played by Dietrich Bader who's clearly supposed to be Tom Arnold.

This guy was posting racebait threads elsewhere, and a redtag labels all his posts whether the individual post is racebait or a normal thread.
Like half the people on DL now, this OP apparently tries to game the system by posting a bunch of regular threads like this along with racist alt-right junk. It keeps people from putting guys like him on ignore, I think, because once you do you end up missing threads like this and DL gets really quiet.

Did you miss the fact that he also worked on "Cybill" and "Roseanne?" I'm willing to bet "Big Bang" is like heaven compared to the other shows he's worked on. (I'm thinking "Young Sheldon" and "Mom" are probably OK as well.)
