I've often wondered this. It most certainly does happen. When I was in college and lived with four rugby team members they would strip off all the time. While it’s not something they would have said or even really known, they were insanely proud of their bodies and reveled in showing them off to any and all. Not always, but generally it’s when we were drinking and once one strips the others right follow along. It also makes some people uncomfortable and they loved being bad boys.

This is VERY common among rugby players in the UK and Australia and New Zealand for some reason.

When I was in college (we're talking 25-30 years ago) and still in the closet, many of the guys in my dorm would get naked frequently. Some would do it in a joking manner (walk into someone else's room naked), some to show off (just whip it out and brag about size), and some just because it was the norm in an all-male environment (walk to the showers naked, take their time covering up after their shower, etc.).
