How had it changed you?
Are you an Equinox member?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 6, 2019 7:53 PM |
It's drained my wallet
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 2, 2018 3:40 PM |
It's great for networking.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 2, 2018 3:59 PM |
How had it changed you? huh?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 2, 2018 4:18 PM |
R3, it's obviously a typo. Don't be disingenuous.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 2, 2018 4:25 PM |
Equinox the gym? Equinox the old pyramid scheme?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 2, 2018 4:27 PM |
Are any of you Equinox employees, past or present?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 7, 2018 9:51 AM |
[post redacted because linking to dailymail.co.uk clearly indicates that the poster is either a troll or an idiot (probably both, honestly.) Our advice is that you just ignore this poster but whatever you do, don't click on any link to this putrid rag.]

Regarding R7–it sucks when the harrassers get caught at the gym but still able to work there. That’s every gym. You just have to find another gym. That’s all you can do.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 9, 2018 12:21 AM |
*are able to work out there
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 9, 2018 12:21 AM |
I love how he's so terrified of the gay men that he thinks they are going to follow and rape him. He fled from the sauna, as if escaping an exploding bomb behind him!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 9, 2018 8:30 AM |
R7 They were probably staring at him since he was the odd one out not jerking off.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 9, 2018 9:18 AM |
Bump. Tell me more about equinox. I’m joining soon.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 4, 2018 12:26 PM |
I used to belong to equinox but felt like I was throwing money away every month and joined NYSC. I’m going to cancel my NYSC membership and switch back. Sometimes you don’t realize that you have until it’s gone.
Does anyone know a way to get a discount? I know that equinox prides itself on being expensive, but I’ll take whatever deal I can get ;)
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 28, 2018 8:57 PM |
Sometimes there are $0 initiation fees; usually this is up on the Equinox website, so make sure you check that out.
See if there is a corporate discount through your work as well. Not 100% on this but if your location of business is within a building that also houses an Equinox location; it's possible you could save significant $$$. Note if this is the case, you may be restricted to JUST that location, and cannot visit other EQX gyms...it all depends.
Finally, visit towards the end of the month. In some cases, they may desperately be trying to meet their monthly quota, so they might be able to work with you on a better rate.
And note different locations will vary in cost, and there are different statuses such as: Select, All Access (don't be fooled by this name, you do not have all access to every gym), Destination, Executive...
Keep in mind everything is subjective here, but it's worth a try.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 28, 2018 9:19 PM |
The destination locations are very nice. The normal ones... Not worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 28, 2018 9:30 PM |
It is generally a place you want to go as opposed to a place ou must go (ie NYSC). BUT. The gays are insufferable. I like Equinox because my schedule allows me to go in the early afternoon before the tragic gay ghetto brigade arrives after work. And no, I’m not an elder gay or obese. There are only so many other hot bodies you’re interested in working out next to before the personality disorders overwhelm you.

Thanks so much R14. Really good suggestions ‘
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 29, 2018 5:30 AM |
R13, R14 is right. Go near the end of the month. They don't usually have promotional pricing on monthly membership fees, but the initiation fee (often $300) is sometimes waived if it's end of season. Pricing is fairly straightforward. Eq doesn't wheel and deal, where they charge one person X per month and Z initiation fee and other prices to someone else. The only exception is if your employer or university has a contract with them for a discounted monthly rate. Mine is $5 less per month; not much, but every bit helps. Once you're a member, when you refer a new member in, you get something like $200 credit on your account that I believe you can use toward dues, spa, training, etc. I don't regret joining.

R13, I forgot to mention, get a 3 day guest pass if you haven't already.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 29, 2018 5:54 AM |
Is anyone a brand new member? What are your first impressions?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 6, 2018 12:14 AM |
Any DLers go to the Century City location?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 6, 2018 1:25 AM |
Everyone wears black.
The men wear Lululemon. Almost every single one of them.
I wear Nike and Amazon Essentials at my Equinox lol. I don't care.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 6, 2018 3:46 PM |
Initiation fees, in general, are ridiculous-just a money grab
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 6, 2018 4:47 PM |
r22 they are all laughing at you
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 6, 2018 4:48 PM |
R24, I laugh at them, for wasting money on fucking Lululemon. And for wearing what their girlfriends and wives are buying them.
R23, the initiation fees are waived or refunded all the time. It's nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 6, 2018 4:51 PM |
The cold eucalyptus towels are great!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 7, 2018 2:30 AM |
If it's a normal location it's not really worth it. It's just as cramped as any inexpensive gym. Destination locations are worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 7, 2018 3:14 AM |
Depends on the city, I've found, R27. Some of the normal locations are fairly spacious. Others, like in NYC, are cramped and claustrophobic.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 7, 2018 4:24 AM |
All gyms are cramped in NYC. I think equinox is the best option though.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 7, 2018 8:36 PM |
Few model types at Century City - mostly bankers (Moelis) and agency types, I think, but yesterday I saw a guy who's likely a male model working out there -- intentionally gross workout clothes, but lanky and handsome. Left the locker room after applying eye cream wearing shorts and a black Montcler puffy jacket and sunglasses. Too cool to look around. Almost celeb-adjacent. No celebrities I've recognized.
So curious about the guys under 25 who work out there - parents' money, hookers, or overextended?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 11, 2018 7:02 PM |
How can you tell if an Equinox gym is a "destination" spot? I checked their website and it isn't clear from the location pages.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 17, 2018 11:28 PM |
Also, what makes a destination EQX better than a regular one?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 17, 2018 11:28 PM |
NYSC: Home of the Nacreous Layer of Perma-Cum.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 17, 2018 11:35 PM |
R31, R32
Different tiers of EQX membership (I'm using southern CA as an example):
Executive-this is an option at West LA/West Hollywood where you get your own separate locker room from the regular one, and you are able to visit any of the EQX locations in the country except for Century City (CC) and Printing House (PH) in NYC. If you are a member at CC or PH, there is no option, as these are executive-level clubs ONLY so you are welcome anywhere in the U.S. These are considered the top/elite clubs for one reason or another.
Destination-you are welcome at all clubs except for West LA/BH/Irvine/CC & PH.
All-Access-stupid title, as it clearly doesn't mean what it says. I'm not 100% sure if they still have this as an option, as it was never clearly explained to most members, so most would be pissed if they tried to go to another club only to be denied.
Select-you only have access at your home club, no others. There may be an option to pay for a day pass should you find yourself at another club while on business, etc.
(Please note this is what I recall and may not be the same as it was a few years back)
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 19, 2018 6:20 AM |
Oh, and you're right, it doesn't specify on the website which locations are Exec, Destination, etc.
Usually smaller clubs such as Palos Verde, Westwood, Hollywood, etc. are just 'regular' locations, however all three of those have indoor pools, which is a plus for some members.
SouthBay-not as popular-has a rooftop outdoor pool and basketball court.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 19, 2018 6:24 AM |
It made me familiar with sauna floors encrusted with nacreous layers of permacum.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 19, 2018 6:35 AM |
Bump—so, is a gym membership worth it?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 26, 2018 11:40 PM |
Bump? No? Yes?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 27, 2018 5:41 PM |
HUH ?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 27, 2018 5:45 PM |
I’m nyc and they’re the best chain I’ve tried. They’re all clean, plenty of equipment, well stocked locker rooms, locations everywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 27, 2018 6:09 PM |
Thanks, R40. Are the members predominantly older/professional? That’s what I want. I want to get away from the selfie/fitness models are regular gyms.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 28, 2018 10:39 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 28, 2018 11:34 PM |
Yes. It's great for networking. And a few of the NYC locations are amazingly spacious, like the one on 67th St. and Columbus.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 29, 2018 1:16 AM |
Yes, R41. Eq members definitely skew more mature overall compared to other clubs since they have to afford the membership. However, there will always be a mix of ages with some younger, serious fitness folks, some of whom who tend to be great for your motivation but sometimes annoying. When you visit might make a difference, too. Evenings are heavily young professionals; daytimes are a mix. Mornings are typically soccer moms. Eq trainers tend to work out mid-afternoon when the clubs are less populated, which is a great time to see new exercises that you can add into your workouts.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 29, 2018 2:38 AM |
R41, I bet that if you say what city you're in, someone here can give you more specific information.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 29, 2018 2:40 AM |
I don’t really go to bars all that often and don’t use any dating apps, and I have made so many friends at various equinox locations in NYC. I think in the last year, all of the friends I have made have been guys I met at the gym.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 30, 2018 5:37 PM |
I do three sets of cocksucking times 12 reps in the steamroom or sauna after every workout.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 30, 2018 5:43 PM |
Equinox sounds awesome.

by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 6, 2019 6:23 AM |
R21 I assume you mean the (newer) Century City location over in the mall, not the one that was adjacent to the now-closed Hyatt hotel that closed in 2016?
If you were a former member at the older location, you'll be divided on the new one; it's missing the duel jacuzzis in the locker rooms, the outdoor pool (technically the Hyatt's but EQX members had access), and it's dysfunctional close-knit family feel. The newer one is nice, but it's missing a lot of amenities former members were used to. All but one of the front desk staff is there, but a lot of the former trainers are back, in addition to a lot of the instructors which is good.
However if you never experienced the old location, you might love the new one since you wouldn't know the difference.
