Why was Taran Killam fired from SNL a few years back?

I've never been able to find out for sure. The series frequently fires people who just never catch on, but when Killam was fired he was being given more air time than any other male star, and more air time than anyone on the show at all except Kate McKinnon/ I thought he was genuinely funny and very cute.

he was certainly a first string player in a period of SNL in decline, which of course, is not the first period of SNL in decline. He probably was overused due to his being better than a lot of his fellow prime time players, but that is understandable.

I continue to hope for maybe one more golden, sustained period of SNL. But I also realize that it may not happen.

Google it.

I miss him; thought he was cute too. I remember reading an article about his end w/SNL: Lorne took him off guard by sharing information that his contract was not to be renewed. He allegedly read about it in a magazine before either his agent or Lorne told him personally. Technically he was not fired, but it was suggested Lorne did not get on well w/him. His name is so funny, very apropos for a coliseum fighter, or an MMA guy.

I did, r2. No luck.

by Anonymousreply 4February 18, 2018 4:58 AM

he's great; he played a guy in his early 20s in a dating app or phone line sketch on SNL and he says : "I'm in my early 20s, so I'll be straight for another three years."

by Anonymousreply 6February 18, 2018 5:34 AM

r5, none of those stories if you click on them actually gives you a clear or actual reason.

by Anonymousreply 7February 18, 2018 5:57 AM

I thought he was the funniest.

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2018 6:00 AM

I get the sneaking suspicion Lorne Michaels can be a real cunt.

by Anonymousreply 9February 18, 2018 6:04 AM

he was their best!

who he piss off? lorne?

god dam i miss him and his

hot fukkin bubble butt....

by Anonymousreply 10February 18, 2018 6:12 AM

he refused to give oral to ........ whom?

by Anonymousreply 11February 18, 2018 6:33 AM

the black panther

by Anonymousreply 12February 18, 2018 6:47 AM

I believe he requested time off to do a movie. They went back and forth over how much time until Lorne said "fuck it. Release him"

by Anonymousreply 13February 18, 2018 9:25 AM

Taran made a guest cameo on ‘AP Bio’ this week...the executive producer of that show is Lorne.

by Anonymousreply 14March 1, 2018 1:28 AM

Lorne's had a weird history with letting cast members out to make movies. If I'm not mistaken, it was a factor in Lovitz leaving. He calmed down, though, and let Mike Myers miss a large chunk of 1992-93 to film So I Married an Axe Murderer.

by Anonymousreply 15March 1, 2018 1:32 AM

he musta pissed lorne off somehow. He was one of the best.

by Anonymousreply 16March 1, 2018 1:32 AM

Not at all cute and only competent with the comedy. There was nothing distinctive about him or his work. He did it, sure. But he was never much more than a good anchor for the scenes.

by Anonymousreply 17March 1, 2018 1:48 AM

He's adorable and it's not a coincidence that Dr Evil and the evil pharmaceutical CEO in Kids in Hall are imitations of Lorne.

by Anonymousreply 18March 1, 2018 1:54 AM

He was full of himself and his ego was starting to create problems. When he made a bunch of demands for time off to do a movie, Lorne got tired of it and they just let him go. Also, if they'd jumped through hoops for him, next thing would be Kate McKinnon asking for a half season off to do some other movie. Lorne was sending a message and getting rid of an egomaniac at the same time.

He's the new Kate Jackson.

by Anonymousreply 19March 1, 2018 2:14 AM

he said no to the boss (sukey suk) ?

by Anonymousreply 20March 1, 2018 4:16 AM

The movie he made with Arnold Schwartznegger was good. HOpe he takes off as a director.

by Anonymousreply 21March 1, 2018 4:17 AM

Basically, what R19 and R21 said. He was a 1st string player but at the same time he never hit the popularity level of top SNL players like Tina Fey, Will Ferrell or Jimmy Fallon so he was expendable.

His contract only had a year left and he wouldn't have been extending it anyway.

by Anonymousreply 22March 1, 2018 4:20 AM

His wife is way too pretty for him. Is he packing? Is he Canadian?

by Anonymousreply 23March 1, 2018 4:23 AM

He's American. From California.

by Anonymousreply 24March 1, 2018 4:24 AM

Fills out his tightywhities well

Lorne finally got fed up with his STUPID NAME.

by Anonymousreply 26March 1, 2018 5:25 AM

What's the matter with the name Taran? It's Irish Gaelic. It means "thunder".

by Anonymousreply 27March 1, 2018 5:28 AM

He was one of the most popular and creative fukkers on the show. We all miss him so much. he is a good kisser!!!

Lorne Michaels is a thief He stole the original idea for SNL from national lampoon as well as most of the original cast lineup from them. They had been doing sketches on radio for national lampoon.

by Anonymousreply 29March 1, 2018 10:08 AM

Taran lasted for many seasons 'cause he be major talent, dog.

Now ME, on the other hand . . .

by Anonymousreply 30March 1, 2018 10:18 AM

He’s no Taron Egerton.

by Anonymousreply 31March 1, 2018 10:45 AM

I loved his Atlanta morning talk show host who was based on Todd Chrisley.

by Anonymousreply 32March 1, 2018 11:05 AM

I heard coke use was more than normal for SNL, which is a lotta blow .lol . No idea if it’s just a rumor , but I thought he was cute and quite funny.

by Anonymousreply 33March 1, 2018 1:04 PM

My favorite character he played was Prince Charming.

by Anonymousreply 34March 1, 2018 1:19 PM

He was great in a small role in 12 Years a Slave.

As was I!

by Anonymousreply 35March 1, 2018 2:08 PM

R20 I thought according to DL Cecily is Lorne's girlfriend.
