Swinging Richard's in Atlanta

Ever been to America's Gay Male Strip Club?

Found this doc. about it.

Indeed, I have.

I've also seen all nude strippers in "informal" settings at clubs and bars in ATL.

by Anonymousreply 1February 17, 2018 7:33 PM

For an hour-long look at an "all nude" club, there's a real lack of cock shots.

by Anonymousreply 2February 17, 2018 7:35 PM

I have a friend who loves that place.

I don't like to be surrounded by whores aggressively trying to get money out of you.

by Anonymousreply 3February 17, 2018 7:41 PM

I've been a few times and loved it, but your money will disappear fast if you're not careful.

by Anonymousreply 4February 17, 2018 7:43 PM

$475 for a private "dance" for an hour? And the club gets $75 of that.

Isn't that just prostitution?

by Anonymousreply 5February 17, 2018 7:45 PM

One time I tipped a stripper there who was dancing up on stage. As my reward, he put his crotch in my face and did a helicopter with his dick ... and he accidentally thwacked me in the eye with it. That shit hurt for a second. LOL

by Anonymousreply 6February 17, 2018 7:46 PM

DANCER: "Please don't stick your finger up my ass."

CUSTOMER: "But I gave you a dollar."

by Anonymousreply 7February 17, 2018 8:05 PM

I remember an interview with Leslie Jordan back during the original Will and Grace run where he recounts being offered a deep discount on a custom made Versace shirt that had been used as a Beverly Leslie costume. Jordan didn’t buy it and his reason was, “Do you know how much dick you can see at Swinging Richards for $500 dollars?”

by Anonymousreply 8February 17, 2018 8:34 PM

[quote]$475 for a private "dance" for an hour? And the club gets $75 of that. Isn't that just prostitution?

Actually, prostitution usually costs less than that.

by Anonymousreply 9February 17, 2018 9:09 PM

I know a guy in Atlanta. He is a doctor and very bright, but he is so willfully stupid when it comes to interacting with the hookers who work at Swinging Richards.

"Oh, he told me he is just doing this to put himself through dental school."

"I had a private session at my house. He says he is getting romantic feelings for me, which is shocking him because he is straight."

Overpriced whores.

by Anonymousreply 11February 17, 2018 9:42 PM

I was there one night when Leslie Jordan was there and all the dancers were crowded around his table. I'm guessing he's a great tipper.

It's been a few years since I've been but had some great times. The best was with a pair of redneck cousins on their first night as dancers. They hadn't learned all the rules yet!

by Anonymousreply 12February 17, 2018 10:00 PM

i got kicked out of swinging richards, because my friend somehow got into an argument with the owner. i hid in a bathroom stall long enough to finish my drink - priorities!

by Anonymousreply 13February 18, 2018 2:30 AM

Like any strip club they must pay a lot in kickbacks to the police.

by Anonymousreply 14February 18, 2018 3:15 AM

I think Pierce is adorable. I wonder if he ever got into medical school?

by Anonymousreply 15February 18, 2018 11:41 AM

That last guy (so handsome) in the video who "went missing" and whose "remains" were found later in a Texas park! How sad. They made it sound like he must have committed suicide.

by Anonymousreply 16February 18, 2018 12:09 PM

If your livelihood depended on schmoozing nasty, old drunks you'd consider suicide too, R16.

by Anonymousreply 17February 18, 2018 12:50 PM

I imagine this song plays on a loop.

"We found love in a hopeless place"

by Anonymousreply 18February 18, 2018 12:59 PM

R16, I happened to be there a few months before he disappeared and was then found dead. I would go with a friend seven or eight times a year. Stephen, the dancer's stage name, had been there for a few years, and I would always tip him at the stage. That night I got a table $10 table dance from him.

After the dance, he told me he had just cut a CD and asked if I wanted to buy one. He said he danced to support his music career. When he went to get the CD. My friend said I was too nice. I said I probably was but maybe it would be half way decent. When he brought it back, he seemed excited to have sold it and claimed he wrote all the songs.

When I listened to the CD, the songs were all horrible and he couldn't stay on key for more than three continuous notes. My friend and I had a big laugh about it. His disappearance and then death were both covered in the mainstream Atlanta press. I then assumed the CD was an attempt to launder money, either from his dancing or from drug dealing, etc. If I remember correctly, his remains suggested he had been nurtured, not from suicide.

by Anonymousreply 19February 18, 2018 1:41 PM

So sad that young guys feel the need to do this. Like porn actors they no doubt are largely psychologically damaged. Interesting how guys like this get annoyed at being called prostitutes. ...I once knew a guy who turned tricks and when I called him a hooker he bristled and said 'I'm an escort...women are prostitutes'

by Anonymousreply 20February 18, 2018 1:43 PM

Some guys cling on to any term they consider more dignified for their actions than a, supposed, less dignified one.

[quote]I once knew a guy who turned tricks and when I called him a hooker he bristled and said 'I'm an escort...women are prostitutes'

That's funny. I knew a guy and I once called him a slut, in a playful way, and he was offended and said that women are sluts, he just has a healthy sex life (he basically said: Stop sex shaming me!). I found out later that he went to AA meetings for both sex and drug addiction.

by Anonymousreply 21February 18, 2018 1:48 PM

Exactly r9. Hiring a rentboy would be cheaper than these private room dances. Rip off.

by Anonymousreply 22February 18, 2018 2:01 PM

Thanks, OP. I just watched it on Amazon Prime.

Steven was such a nice guy and so interesting to talk with (although I remember him with longer hair). He was really into his music and tried acting out in California. He was very proud he was in an episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" although it was just a crowd scene. We used to go out for dinner any time I came to Atlanta. I didn't have a good phone number for him and I Googled and saw the sad news about him being missing and later his body being found.

by Anonymousreply 23February 18, 2018 2:12 PM

There are a lot of judgmental bitches here. Christ, so they strip and do lap dances and you pay them for that. So don't go if you think it's all a ripoff, that they're all whores, whatever. Same with the tightass attitude about prostitution. If it's not your thing, then don't.

Everybody is a fucking moralist.

by Anonymousreply 24February 18, 2018 2:24 PM

It's true, R22, that hiring a rentboy would be cheaper, but with Swinging Richards you get to pick and chose your guy live (rather than from a pic where you never know if it's real) , plus you can sample the merchandise before purchase. So that's worth a premium over buying online.

by Anonymousreply 25February 18, 2018 3:00 PM

Good point, r25.

by Anonymousreply 26February 18, 2018 3:03 PM

Forgive me for being naïve, but what are you paying big bucks for in the private rooms if you aren't supposed to touch them. Is this rule not enforced?

by Anonymousreply 27February 18, 2018 4:14 PM

The guys do look hot at r25. If I were rich I'd open my own Gentlemen's Club, associated with a porn site that looks like on the level of Sean Cody or Corbin Fisher or Gay Hooplah, which is pretty much a glorified gay whorehouse with club members being able to pick a hottie for the night, or spend a whole weekend in one of our private properties, from an often changing line up of hot guys. Discretion guaranteed.

by Anonymousreply 28February 18, 2018 4:23 PM

[quote] If I remember correctly, his remains suggested he had been nurtured, not from suicide.

Huh?

by Anonymousreply 29February 18, 2018 4:40 PM

Is Clint still dancing there?

by Anonymousreply 30February 18, 2018 4:43 PM

[quote] Like any strip club they must pay a lot in kickbacks to the police.

The Atlanta police don't give a rat's ass about what goes on at this club. Every adult establishment in Atlanta has an off duty Atlanta cop or cops working as on site security. t's the city atttorney's office they need to be careful of.

by Anonymousreply 31February 18, 2018 4:44 PM

Ridiculously overpriced but I am glad it is still there, an Atlanta institution. Give me B.J. Rooster's on Cheshire Bridge any day. Hotter guys and doesn't cost a fortune.

by Anonymousreply 32February 18, 2018 4:49 PM

Agree with r31. They have nothing to fear from police. This isn't the pre-Stonewall era.

by Anonymousreply 33February 18, 2018 5:16 PM

What really goes on in the VIP rooms?

Do old men suck the dancers? Do they cum?

by Anonymousreply 34February 18, 2018 6:04 PM

I like how they 'audition' them by whipping out a ruler. I guess that means they must be impressive flaccid, since hardons are taboo.

Sill, doesn't mean you can't 'fluff' a little backstage. Or imagine a Playboy centerfold while you're doing the "helicopter".

by Anonymousreply 35February 18, 2018 6:14 PM

I hooked up with a dancer from there who I met in a sex club years ago while on my way to visit my old college roommate. Confessing my sleazy encounter to not friend, turned out not only did he know the guy but he had hooked up with him also.

Small world, isn’t it...

by Anonymousreply 36February 18, 2018 6:21 PM

I imagine the dancers escort on the downlow outside the club with the patrons if they tip well. And then you might get more action than the club allows.

by Anonymousreply 37February 18, 2018 6:24 PM

[quote]It's true, [R22], that hiring a rentboy would be cheaper, but with Swinging Richards you get to pick and chose your guy live (rather than from a pic where you never know if it's real) , plus you can sample the merchandise before purchase. So that's worth a premium over buying online.

True, but there are escort review sites that give you plenty of information about your potential rentboy, while the guys at Swinging Richard's might promise a lot but deliver little or nothing.

by Anonymousreply 38February 18, 2018 6:37 PM

Not all the dancers at Swinging Richards are gay. That's a problem for me. I'm not interested in being played up to for money by straight frauds.

by Anonymousreply 39February 18, 2018 6:53 PM

R39, it’s not just that not all are gay, it’s that only a very small percentage are gay.

by Anonymousreply 40February 18, 2018 6:56 PM

Man, that was an odd film. 1st half is kind of interesting, showing how things work there, getting to know dancers and the second half is all about the loser dancers and their feelings on life. Umm, the audience don't care about your feelings on life. We want to know about the peen!!

by Anonymousreply 41February 18, 2018 6:58 PM

The Yelp reviews are interesting.

A lot of people complaining about women monopolizing the dancers. And of getting ripped off in the VIP area.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 42February 18, 2018 7:01 PM

If someone is stupid enough to pay for a VIP area they deserve to be ripped off. If you don't have money to throw away you should stay out of places like that.

by Anonymousreply 43February 18, 2018 7:05 PM

The one in Miami was awesome. Still good when it moved to Ft Lauderdale.

Then it closed.

Sigh.

Some of the hottest men I've ever seen. I spent a lot of money there, but it was worth every penny.

by Anonymousreply 44February 18, 2018 7:07 PM

R34, I sucked off more than a few dancers in the VIP area. Masturbated them. They get fully hard (most of them). Even made out with one (though kissing is usually verboten).

by Anonymousreply 45February 18, 2018 7:09 PM

Do you have the AIDS R45?

by Anonymousreply 46February 18, 2018 7:19 PM

No, R46. In fact, I've never contracted an STD in my life.

by Anonymousreply 47February 18, 2018 7:25 PM

God, there was a time when strip clubs were one of my favorite things, even the female ones. Great music on great sound systems and beer (not cheap but you could nurse one all night) and the girls were off on a stage dancing cool -- and you could touch them if you gingerly put a dollar in the g string but more was grounds to get kicked out. Mens strip clubs were like that too, probably by law.

Then it became a pit of capitalism with strippers climbing all over men trying to get as much money as they can and men grabbing everywhere. The problem with Richard's is the guys are already standing around naked or hustling some other guy for a lapdance so you see the goods almost immediately and there is no mystery or anticipation (even Bliss, which closed shop, would build to the naked dance on stage). So I don't know why anyone would pay $400 for anything when it's all there for your eyes two feet away for free.

I miss good old fashioned hustler bars where the guys were dressed but sexy and it was exciting to imagine being with one -- and talking to them over beers, not being hit on for money from minute one. Even Numbers in L.A. was like that. It never even felt trashy.

by Anonymousreply 48February 18, 2018 7:30 PM

The the customers know that most of the dancers think they are disgusting?

by Anonymousreply 49February 18, 2018 7:32 PM

R49, of course. But the customers don’t think very highly of the dancers either.

by Anonymousreply 50February 18, 2018 7:34 PM

IT's about fantasy, not reality.

by Anonymousreply 51February 18, 2018 7:36 PM

[quote] That's a problem for me. I'm not interested in being played up to for money by straight frauds

But you're OK being played up to for money by gay frauds? You think if the dancer is gay that they really mean it when they say how handsome you are and rub up against you?

If a dancer does everything I want him to do why should I care if he's actually straight or not?

by Anonymousreply 52February 18, 2018 7:40 PM

The women pretending to be attracted to the men are pretty gross. The guy strippers don't really have to play that game especially since they know what the customer is there for. They are usually pleasant though and sometimes somewhat sweet. But mostly, men being men, it's always a nice simple business transaction. Here's a dollar... what can I get? And upwards from there.

I had a regular dancer at B.J.s that I adored and would play pool with while there but I never for a second thought we had anything beyond that bar. Still, when they know you, as he did, they let you do a lot for just a buck tip, almost like a Loyalty plan. This guy was porn star cute too and not a tattoo on him which helped.

Beware the Latinos though who feign poor English and agree on a price and then decide you owe them $80 after one song. They are famous for this, especially at B.J.s as I learned the hard way. Best to avoid the "back rooms" (closets at best) in general and just get what you can (often a lot) in the bar.

by Anonymousreply 53February 18, 2018 7:44 PM

[quote] But you're OK being played up to for money by gay frauds?

Certainly not. I don't go to stripper bars of any type. I worked too hard for my money and I'm not about to hand it over to some scam artist just to look at his tail.

by Anonymousreply 54February 18, 2018 8:00 PM

R54, I hand over no money to just 'look'.

I pay to touch. To play.

And it's worth every penny to me.

by Anonymousreply 55February 18, 2018 8:06 PM

Steven's story is very sad. I imagine he had a sweet side, but a lot of demons. It sort of reminds me of Venus Xtravaganza from Paris is Burning, except Venus was actually murdered. But it ended the movie with the same sad note that this one has. It's nice that some of the guys left this business with their shit relatively together.

by Anonymousreply 56February 18, 2018 9:27 PM

So it's been proven that Steven wasn't a murder? A suicide, I assume? (No snark intended on my end, promise, I really am confused on what was determined).

by Anonymousreply 57February 18, 2018 9:43 PM

This is the fishiest "rape" story I have ever heard.

[quote]Texas authorities have determined that skeletal remains in December are those of Steven Marchi, a North Druid Hills musician who went missing in August, Marchi's mother said this week. Marchi's skull and a piece of vertabrae were found 400 yards from Marchi's campsite in Gainesville, TX, and were delivered to the University of North Texas for DNA analysis, said Virginia Marchi, Steven Marchi's mother.

by Anonymousreply 61February 18, 2018 10:02 PM

Hmm, I wonder if it was an accidental OD.

by Anonymousreply 62February 18, 2018 10:18 PM

The weird thing is that Steven apparently told him roommate he would be back in a few. And left without his phone or guitar (which he, we are told, always had).

He then winds up in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 63February 18, 2018 10:44 PM

Ms. Leslie Jordan, went to break in front Of me at a bar in Atlanta , he said "I have an Emmy."

I replied "I have manners."

by Anonymousreply 64February 18, 2018 11:06 PM

I haven't been to the one in Atlanta since the 90s... how did it compare to the ones in Florida?
