Don't waste your money if you're from the U.S. Can't understand a word they said. The accents are so think it's barely English.

You do realise that England is the origin of English?

I was going to check this out. CMBYN wasn’t my cup of tea. Didn’t like the pace.
Good gay movies are few and far between.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 17, 2018 12:57 AM |
If you stick with it for a few minutes it’s not hard to understand. Well worth it.

I think it's terrible how the English have appropriated the English language from the yahoo dimwits of the US.

Their accents are strong, but most people should be able to understand it. It played at the Fort Lauderdale gay film festival and was very well received. I saw it a second time when it played at a local theater, and there also, it was very well received. A far better movie, IMHO than CMBYN.

I ordered the DVD from Amazon, which was clearly marked as having closed captions/subtitles. The disc had neither. We watched it anyway and liked it very much, but will admit that the heavy accents were sometimes too much. We missed a lot of the dialogue.

The version available from iTunes has closed captions.

As the English have appropriated their language from the Angles who invaded from Denmark. Language doesn't remain constant: it's constantly evolving. I've had to turn on the close captions for a number of British movies and series over the years. If you had told me the same thing, I'd never take offense. I speak 'American' since it's my native language. I don't have any particular pride in it.
Now, back to the movie.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but GOC wasn't my cup of tea, R2 didn't like the pace of CMBYN, well I found GOC very slow. It wasn't horrible but I had to force myself to watch the entire thing, I was mighty attempted to leave half way through. If it hadn't been about two gay men I wouldn't have finished it.
Now if you loved GOC I am happy for you, I am not attacking the movie and I am glad you enjoyed it. I didn't.

It's not for the squeamish or germaphobes.

Does the Blu-Ray have subtitles?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 17, 2018 2:43 AM |
I have never in my long history of watching DVDs and Blu-rays seen a disc without subtitles.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 17, 2018 2:45 AM |
I rented GOC on Amazon and it had subtitles.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 17, 2018 2:46 AM |
I can confirm no subtitles on the DVD version.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 17, 2018 2:46 AM |
Have you tried turning the subtitles on your TV?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 17, 2018 2:51 AM |
OP probably hates uncut men too, because he's never set foot out of Alabama.

I was very impressed. It really snuck up on me.

What kind of (regional) accents do they have?

feel bad movie of the year. mostly...
ratface boy makes his joy just out of reach....o dear.

What were you thicking, OP?
I loved the movie. The main character’s acting was superb, especially during the scene near the end when he travels to see his lover one last time. You can see the range of his conflicting emotions in his facial expressions where he first tries to maintain a macho “no big deal” attitude when speaking about the prospect of never seeing his lover again, then flashes of anger, and finally a heartbreaking display of earnest fear of losing the only man he’s ever loved.
The accents can be tough, so rent it online and turn on subtitles. “Innit?” apparently means “isn’t it?” and there’s lots of “getting on” and “getting on wid it,” a phrase I don’t fully understand , even in context. For example, when asked how his ailing father is doing, he responds “he’s gettin’ on wid it, innit?” I confess to not totally understanding it. I [italic]think[/italic] he meant “he’s doing the best he can,” but I do not know.
Regardless, this was a wonderful movie that I enjoyed very much.

It takes place in rural Yorkshire. It was lovely.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 28, 2018 10:44 AM |
R1 has obviously never traveled around the UK. There are some regional accents that are so thick other English folks can't understand them.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 28, 2018 10:48 AM |
that rat face movie is UNWATCHABLE
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 28, 2018 1:42 PM |
Dull movie. Even the explicit sex scenes were dull somehow.

I watched it on amazon with subtitles as well. Great movie.

OP’s frightened because the leads have pubes.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 28, 2018 2:09 PM |
I hAd no problem understanding it. I was just disappointed how predictable it was. Instantly forgettable after viewing. sad.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 28, 2018 4:05 PM |
Great film- some people cannot leave their back yards without having a fit (OP).
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 28, 2018 4:16 PM |
I liked it but I suspect the writer/director has intimacy issues.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 28, 2018 5:18 PM |
Not a very good movie. Kind of dull and the characters were instantly forgettable. I rented the blu ray and it did NOT have subtitles. I struggled with understanding the accents. The Romanian guy was easiest to understand. Rat face I missed about half his lines. The father- forget it. I couldn't understand a word he said. Not one.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 28, 2018 5:22 PM |
happy ending? I could not make it thru the thing...too cliché=gay negative.

Something over 50% of English vocab comes from the romance languages, not the Germanic languages. English is more like a French-Germam hybrid than a form of German.

The movie was ok. NOthing to write home about, like CMBYN.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 1, 2018 4:10 AM |
depressed me. that skinny one was on such a bummer for an hour plus
no thx
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 11, 2018 12:16 AM |
I think it's a good movie, not great and doesn't have the wow factor and impact like CMBYN. It's won't be classic for sure. Ordered from Amazon and have not received it yet.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 11, 2018 12:29 AM |
Watching on iTunes right now with captioning, force of habit - accents are a bit thick, but a lot of the dialogue is really not necessary to understand the movie if you just pay attention to the context, body language and general tone of the voices, unlike "the other movie" that is a lot more "wordy".
