Plus, the remaining money from the other 5 SATC seasons, which has to be a couple of million combined. Plus whatever other money she made over her career.

I don't see the confusion over "how is she paying her bills?" She has money based on that very rudimentary outline of her earnings. People invest, people manage their money. Even at an even $10 million (she undoubtedly has made more over the years), she'd be fine if she managed her money, even living in NYC.

I absolutely loved the tv show from beginning to end. Disappointed in the first movie, hated the second! I felt the series ended beautifully and should have been left alone! But if they insist on making a third just to rake in the bucks, they can do it without Cattrall. She's being made the scapegoat. The first season of Friends, Courtney Cox was a bit of a name, (recurring on Family Ties), and all the others were considered unknowns. Courtney was started at a higher salary, but eventually, all were making the same. (and so much of this, both Friends and SATC, has more to do with who has the better negotiating agent than anything else). But all 6 characters were always supposed to be equal.

SATC was always about Carrie - and her friends. Everyone who initially signed up knew that, including Kim. Cynthia Nixon, in an early interview, commented that she was originally in strong contention for Carrie, but when she heard it was going to SJP, asked to be considered for MIranda because she thought it would be a great show, was friends with SJP, and just wanted to be a part of it.

Again, it did not have anything to do with "star" vs "ensemble" among the actors - the problems started when SJP gained producer control in the third season.

Kim never wanted to do the show in the first place. Darren Star desperately wanted her but she kept turning him down. Finally, they cast another actress as Samantha but Star still wasn't satisfied. He made one more pitch and Kim accepted. The other actress was paid off. I don't think the show would have been the same without Kim but she never gave the impression she was thrilled with the series.

A good college friend was working on the show. She was being sexually harassed. The person doing it was one of SJP inner circle of friends. There was no where for her to go. SJP has apparently been shopping the film idea around and might have possible producers and script outline, why would she be so confident about a third film if she had nothing to go on. If Kim wants certain things from the film other than money, such as no nudity, equal billing, equal pay and points for the four actresses as a matter of principal, script approval or whatever, she is in her best position to negotiate for them now. On SATC, Carrie and Samantha are best friends.

In real life, Sarah Jessica Parker HATES Kim Cattrall.

Catrall is 61 years old. All the other women on the series are approximately ten years younger. During the TV series and the films, Parker formed a little Mean Girls Club to exclude Cattrall from socializing activities with her and the two other female principals on the TV series.

As a producer, SJP also encouraged the writers to exclude, takes digs at, and play with the mortality of Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones, whenever possible.

They gave Samantha Jones breast cancer, put her through menopause, moved her to the West coast, had her gain weight, and highlighted the fact that she was ten years older than the other characters at a 50th birthday party.

The latter is the plot line referenced in the original blind item.

These events were more about SJP exerting a nasty dominance over Kim Cattrall than they were about serving a plot line.

Understandably, Cattrall is now reluctant to do another film. And Parker is now blaming Cattrall for being a diva and making ridiculous demands and preventing everyone else from making money on a new project.

A couple of days after we ran our blind item, other media sources validated that part of this battle was about the way Catrall’s character was being humiliated in the series.

It seems SJP was a bit more relavent as an actress when the show started, she'd had a lacklustre film career but was more visible due to her early '90s movies. Cattrall had been B-list during the eighties but had worked more as a leading lady than Parker. I think the show was an ensemble, with a little more focus on the Carrie character as the narrator. The problem was SJP was a manipulative cunt who managed to snag top billing and executive producers credit away from the rest of the actresses. This probably didn't sit well with Cattrall, who most likely took offence at SJP's dominance and creative control. SJP strikes me as being a phoney, she's a very unattractive woman and most likely felt threatened by Cattrall, who was the most popular character on the show. Cattrall probably didn't get more money or more creative control because of SJP, I can well see her making sure it didn't happen. What Cattrall should have done was stood her ground, she could have simply held out for more money and not took any of SJP's shit. It might well have ended in her leaving the show, but that would only have led to its popularity fading at its height. What most likely happened was KC knew the show was probably her last chance to make any real money. She'd been a jobbing actress since the '70s, and, although she was willing to make her displeasure about SJP's attitude known, was only willing to push it so far. Maybe if she'd been younger she might have fought harder with the producers and stood upto SJP more.

What I find interesting is how Bruce Willis fucked up both SJP's and Kim Cattrall's career. They each separately starred in one of the movies where he fucked up the film with his diva antics. Cattrall ended up playing a Vulcan and then doing straight to video shit after BOTV bombed at the box office. It sounds to me like Kim just didn’t know how to play the game. SJP was always unattractive even when she was young, and while she starred in a couple of comedy movies as a third string actress her career never really amounted to much. I think she got as far as she did due to the people’s memories of her as a child and teen actress. She also played the bearding game with RDJ who was hot at the time. Maybe SJP had the inside track with the HBO higher-ups from the start, if she had influence and clout with the shows producers then maybe Kim found that hard to deal with.

What I can’t understand is how SJP managed to control the series as much as she did. Her character was the least well liked on sex and the city and the series’ producers should have realised this and reigned in her diva behaviour before it got out of control. I believe that Kim thought of her co-stars as colleagues because even in the clip above which, I guess, was shot as the series was about to end, she comes off as very professional and complimentary but there's a coolness. She's talking about co-workers, not friends. I think the bad blood really came to the surface when Kim turned down the first movie and no one ever recovered. Her refusal to do a third obviously sent SJP over the edge. Kim always comes across as very honest and sincere in interviews. She doesn't try and be cute and sassy, she sounds like a pro.

In honor of this thread, I watch that SATC movie they are playing all the time on HBO. I should say, I "tried." It is unwatchable, terrible. People say that was the good ,and the other one was good awful. SJP, dearest, no one on the planet wants another one of the unwatchable movies. SJP is delusional.

Seems odd that nobody seems to get that Kim Cattrall is much more British than Canadian/American. Despite emigrating at 3 months old all of her family are from the North-West of England, she even moved back to The UK aged 11 until she was 16.

In the North-West of England people are much more 'plain-speaking' and blunt than the South-East (London) region. As a Manchester born Brit I think that she reacted to Bullshit exactly as I would have expected, given the circumstances.

I agree the movie is unwatchable. And I don't get why the actresses use those awful fillers in their faces. Do they not see how horrible they look on film because of this? I KNOW that each actress would have looked just fine had they had no work done. Those unneeded fillers were a constant distraction.

SJP wasn't the only one pushing for a SATC3. Kristin Davis really wanted a third one too. If anything a third SATC movie would have helped Kristin more than the others.

A third film seems like a waste. Aside from this BS, there is NO story left to tell. There honestly can be no more to say. It might be lucrative but it would carpet bomb what remains of the show's legacy.

I am Team Kim all the way, but I do think she has a little bit of what I'll call Delta Burke Syndrome. She's done a lot of different things, hit big in one role, and while she wants to do more varied stuff, the public is kinda stuck on her acting like her best known character. So the parts dry up because the actress isn't willing to do another take on the character - be it Suzanne Sugarbaker, or Karen Walker, or Samantha Jones.

Kim has also had some health issues of her own. She had to modify her schedule because of her sleep problems. I doubt SJP gave a shit about that either. People make light of insomnia & sleep issues - but they shouldn't. There's a thread here on DL called "Give me propofol" or something - and based on the responses, I think people are sympathetic to insomniacs here at least. (search for propofol).

You really shouldn't talk about things you don't understand. Darren Star, who was a Cattrall ally, created the show, but left after two seasons.

Micheal Patrick King, a SJP ally, took over running the show. It was only then that SJP because an EP. And, yes, she did have power. And used it. Although she never wrote (but this doesn't stop me from blaming her for the "Me likely!" line).
