what's going on?the troll's back?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 11, 2018 3:45 PM |
What happened to the other Armie thread part 17? Why was it closed? Also, the same happened to the Timmy one.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 11, 2018 4:33 PM |
Why isn't there a mechanism to prevent people from posting the same thing multiple times and essentially usurping the thread?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 11, 2018 4:38 PM |
There used to be, didn't there? You were limited to three posts in a row.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 11, 2018 4:41 PM |
I don't know if this was posted at the time but lol at both Elizabeth and Timmy looking at him like they're the proud partner.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 11, 2018 4:42 PM |
R5 It wasn't posted. Nice.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 11, 2018 4:48 PM |
What is going on in that scene? Why is Timmy on the sidelines (with Elizabeth) and not posing with him?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 11, 2018 4:54 PM |
They did pose together. There are photos of that from that day (they also posed with Elizabeth). They were probably just doing individual photos too. This is from the same event where Elizabeth fixed Timmy's hair thus sending twitter and tumblr into a meltdown over her "infantilizing" Timothée.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 11, 2018 5:12 PM |
I didn't find anything wrong with Elizabeth fixing Timmy's hair...it was cute.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 11, 2018 5:15 PM |
Off-topic: is there also a Timmy thread? Can't find it..,
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 11, 2018 5:18 PM |
r9 Same. But you know how young fans can get. They love drama.
r10 Current Timmy Thread:

It’d be outrageous if my man wears tracksuit to the Oscars. He’s been acting out lately. It’s ok to act out painful feelings, my dear.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 11, 2018 5:22 PM |
Wait, did the tumblr people hate her "infantilizing" Timmy? I thought they ate that shit up? Rather, there's a poster or two on DL who hate when we call Chalamet 'Timmy' because s/he thinks we're infantilizing him.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 11, 2018 5:24 PM |
There was a portion of fans who thought it was cute and there was portion who were ENRAGED. Same on twitter. Oddly, I've seen more larry-level loons on Twitter than I've seen on tumblr.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 11, 2018 5:28 PM |
Armie said he didn't want any frontal nudity because his daughter playmates might tease her – how silly. If that is how he feels he better stick to cars movies. No serious actor limits themselves that way. Cate, Nicole, DDL, Clillian, Michael etc have kids and have done nude scenes. This is a male issue predominately American man. Timothee who is part French said he's down for explicit scenes in a sequel.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 11, 2018 5:33 PM |
Ugh, now I feel infantilized. Can't we discuss these actors without being seen as "fans?" There's a difference, FFS.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 11, 2018 5:38 PM |
Good thing I was referring to literal fans with fan accounts from Tumblr and Twitter, then.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 11, 2018 5:42 PM |
R15 but doesn't Timmy also have a clause for no frontal nudity? If I remember correctly, both actors have it.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 11, 2018 5:54 PM |
R5 but they are, aren't they?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 11, 2018 5:57 PM |
I’ve fallen for Armie due to DataLounge threads. Thanks a lot, guys. I just watched most of “Birth of a Nation” last night and liked it, so far.
He’s 6’5”, did you know that? He doesn’t seem to tower over the other actors as I would expect.
Will there ever be a sequel to “Man from UNCLE”? The first ends with a set-up for a sequel, like they already had one in the can. I need to know. I love his fake Russian accent and character’s personality.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 11, 2018 6:00 PM |
R20 don't think Man from UNCLE will have a sequel, it flopped badly.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 11, 2018 6:04 PM |
-R18 yes I believe they both did. But Tim said he was OK with more explicit sex scenes. Remember he signed on to the project when it was just a book. the book and even the screenplay were way more sexual then the movie. Ivory has expressed his disappointment in that. Luca really wanted Armie so I think any sanitizing of the screenplay was " partly" because of him.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 11, 2018 6:05 PM |
Or maybe they filmed the highly sexualised scenes but then in the editing process they were cut?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 11, 2018 6:09 PM |
R23 I thought that was what happened too.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 11, 2018 6:11 PM |
I think so too. Based on what Armie's said about the amount of time he and Tim spent totally nude in bed, i think they probably did film more intimate scenes but they were cut.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 11, 2018 6:13 PM |
The amount of time spent nude could be attributed to how long it takes to set up shots. I doubt there was more because Luca was pretty adament about letting the chemistry speak for itself.
From Luca's interview with Indiewire: “To put our gaze upon their lovemaking would have been a sort of unkind intrusion,” the director said in Italian-accented English. “I think that their love is in all things, so when we gaze towards the window and we see the trees, there is a sense of witnessing that. I refuse with strong firmness that I was coy in not showing that, because I think that Oliver and Elio and Armie and Timothée, the four of them displayed a very strong intimacy and closeness in so many ways and it was enough.”

[quote]The amount of time spent nude could be attributed to how long it takes to set up shots.
Isn't that what stand-ins are for?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 11, 2018 6:27 PM |
I doubt Luca needed stand-ins for this tiny ass movie . Probably didn't employ any for A BIGGER SPLASH and if he did it's because those actors are big enough names to not be expected to hang on set for set-ups.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 11, 2018 6:33 PM |
R-26 i've heard Luca say that before but I don't buy it. Nor did Ivory who wrote the screenplay. There was more simulated sex and nudity between Elio and Marzia. Which by the way wasn't in the screenplay.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 11, 2018 6:36 PM |
Anyway, it was still up to the actors to show more nudity or not. In this case, Armie didn't want it.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 11, 2018 6:39 PM |
R26 I like how Luca mentions 4 people and characters: "because I think that Oliver and Elio and Armie and Timothée, the four of them displayed a very strong intimacy and closeness in so many ways and it was enough.” I wish I were a fly on the wall to have seen what went on, even if slow and tedious
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 11, 2018 6:41 PM |
R-30 Agree it was Armie. Esther and Timothee didn't seems to have those hang ups. Maybe it's their French Heritage
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 11, 2018 7:00 PM |
R29 although to be fair, even the sex scenes with Marzia were very tame... I mean she takes her top off and Timmy kisses her thigh, then the scene cuts to them in the garden. It's about on par with the scene where Oliver gives Elio head the "morning after". We don't see Elio's cock, but then again we never saw Marzia's muff either.
For the simulated sex on the river bank with Marzia and Elio it's also pretty tame, with Elio's jeans covering his ass and nothing shown of Marzia at all. And plot wise I think it was necessary to have that scene showing them "in the act" because it reveals that's there's no real passion between them (at least from Elio's perspective) and this contrasts to Elio climbing all over Oliver during foreplay the night they finally get together.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 11, 2018 8:12 PM |
R33 I didn't find the scenes between Elio and Marzia tame at all. It's not about what you see; it's about what you can imagine. The part where they are kissing against a wall and Marzia feels his cock and teasing him says: 'oooh, you're so hard!' in French was pretty suggestive. Maybe Luca wanted to make that separation between sex and love.
Oliver - love Marzia - sex
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 11, 2018 8:22 PM |
It's possible. I did feel the contrast. Elio and Marzia were goofy and horny. Elio and Oliver were passionate and tender.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 11, 2018 8:25 PM |
Is it really any different than Oliver's: "you're hard again. good." ?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 11, 2018 8:26 PM |
R36 it is. The only thing that saves the blowjob scene are the noises Oliver supposedly makes and TimmyChally's face — it's priceless.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 11, 2018 8:29 PM |
I don't see how but okay.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 11, 2018 8:31 PM |
When will this be released to Comcast?
It’s been frustrating when, after like, thread Part XIX or something, I finally looked the movie up, and saw that it wouldn’t be in general theatrical release for a few more weeks. That was a while ago. Now I’m waiting to see it on cable. I give props to the publicist here, but the threads here are the biggest, most overblown promotion I’ve yet seen on DataLounge.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 11, 2018 8:32 PM |
Good point R36... I guess for the overall film I was getting more of the vibe R35 mentions. Everything Elio displays towards Marzia is awkward horniness and almost like he's using her as a blow up doll. He paws at her, makes silly giggles, and the kissing is all quick, noisy pecks... especially when they are in the pool and going up to the attic. They don't even kiss at all while fucking on the river bank.
But with Oliver, Elio's reaction is to initiate deep, passionate kissing, collapse into Oliver's arms, sigh gently when Oliver touches his foot, etc.
I felt the Marzia scenes were pivotal to set up that Elio was in some ways a sexually aggressive 17-year old and not completely an innocent kid, so it wouldn't appear unseemly when Oliver beds him.
But the difference is the straight sex is all about hormones and being driven towards an ejaculation without any true passion for the sex partner... the gay sex is about Elio also discovering that powerful feelings of love and emotion can also be a part of physical desire.

For what it's worth, as of this weekend, CMBYN has grossed $24 million ($13 million domestically, $11 million foreign) on a production budget of $3-$4 million. That's pure profit!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 11, 2018 8:42 PM |
Yes, R40 but pretending we didn't have the book and could imagine any future we want for the characters... if Elio were to truly come out and be a gay man, how quickly he would find out that sadly 99% of gay sex is "being driven towards an ejaculation without any true passion for the sex partner" LOL

R43... yes, we should come up with a Cliffs Notes version... many of us feel passionately that our insights would be profound! LOL
Anyway, I guess this all belongs on a CMBYN thread. Back to Armie posts now...
