Fuck yeah he did, OP. There with his cane and black sneakers...what a badass. I love him.

by Anonymousreply 2February 11, 2018 10:14 AM

For a moment there I thought it was a shot of the 3 guys who keep posting in the Timmy threads.

by Anonymousreply 3February 11, 2018 10:21 AM

Can you spell G.O.U.T.?

by Anonymousreply 4February 11, 2018 10:42 AM

Is he going to write the sequel?

by Anonymousreply 5February 11, 2018 11:01 AM

No, R5. He's said he doesn't think there should be one, and I think he and Luca are pretty much done with each other anyway.

by Anonymousreply 6February 11, 2018 11:06 AM

I know I have been a bit unfair with Oldman that he doesn't deserve the win just because it's a lifetime achievement award, but damn James Ivory really need one.

R6 you think so because James had some judicial dispute with Luca?

by Anonymousreply 7February 11, 2018 11:11 AM

Oldman doesn't even deserve a lifetime achievement award. Please, most of his filmography is utter crap and his acting skills aren't all that.

by Anonymousreply 8February 11, 2018 11:15 AM

It's not just the WGA arbitration over the screenwriting credit, R7 - it's little things both men have said in interviews, etc. It's clear that they have clashed over assorted things during and after the making of the film. I don't think they're mortal enemies or anything, but I also don't believe they will be seeking each other out as creative partners again. Luca apparently intends to write the sequel himself with input from Andre Aciman. We shall see...

by Anonymousreply 9February 11, 2018 11:20 AM

I hope they won't deviate too much from the source material, they've got their sequel right there and it shouldn't be too difficult to do it reasonably well. Now, if Luca decides to come up with tons of new ideas...

I know that he wants Aciman involved but I don't trust Aciman so much either, I feel like most of us are much more emotionally attached to these characters than he is at this point lol

by Anonymousreply 10February 11, 2018 11:24 AM

Luca has already said many times the sequel will be its own animal and is not going to follow the outline from the book.

by Anonymousreply 11February 11, 2018 11:26 AM

[quote]Now, if Luca decides to come up with tons of new ideas...

Well, as R11 said...Luca is coming up with tons of new ideas. Of the ones he's publicly discussed so far, most don't sound terribly promising to me, but mileage may vary.

I think Andre Aciman has achieved a detachment from these characters too, which is not surprising - the book was written over a decade ago, and he's sold the rights to it. He's let them go, and it's understandable. I honestly wish he'd just stay out of the sequel - he swore he'd never write one, and now he sort of is, which may very well remove our ability to enjoy the open ending he gave the novel.

by Anonymousreply 12February 11, 2018 12:11 PM

Does this sequel have to be made? Honestly, maybe Luca should rethink and work with Armie and Timmy in other movies too.

by Anonymousreply 13February 11, 2018 12:18 PM

I think the sequel is a very misguided idea. However, I agree with having the three in a new project together. That would be the best.

by Anonymousreply 14February 11, 2018 1:00 PM

R14 yeah, also Luca has many ideas for the projects he wants to persue. In a recent interview, he talked about wanting to adapt a novel by one of the famous Afro-American writers, but the rights were impossible to buy. I assume he was talking about James Baldwin and the novel might be Giovanni's Room.

by Anonymousreply 15February 11, 2018 1:21 PM

Not that I mind a sad ending (in CMBYN or other films), but if Luca wants to make a sequel or other unrelated film featuring these two, I'd highly appreciate a happy ending. You know, just to dismiss people's (erroneous) fuss about gay film always being tragic. And Giovanni's Room, as great novel as it is, is super depressing from the get go.

by Anonymousreply 16February 11, 2018 1:45 PM

Well, if he makes a sequel, I'm sure Luca will give them an happy ending...or even an open ending, more on the happy side, I guess. He wants to follow the Before trilogy pattern and that one had a happy ending.

by Anonymousreply 17February 11, 2018 2:29 PM

I trust Luca and think he could use some of the core ideas from the rest of the novel as a guide. The film is beautiful and I would love to see where Tim and Armie take these characters.

What happened to the Timothee thread? Why was it closed?

by Anonymousreply 20February 11, 2018 4:35 PM

Am interested in these characters lies between the 15 years before they reunite. And then the five years between the second time reunion. Also hoping we get more of Oliver's perspective in any sequel. Having a totally different story line would be a big mistake. The one thing Luca has said I would be on board for it is elio having a son.

by Anonymousreply 21February 11, 2018 5:07 PM

Would a SQL be filmed in New York, New England or Europe?

by Anonymousreply 22February 11, 2018 6:30 PM

A bit of a non sequitur, but here's a video "recap" of another gorgeous coming of age film set in Italy: Stealing Beauty from 1996... with the stunning Liv Tyler in a breakout role. Although she's not at the same level as Timmy as an actor and her film career never went that far, she's certainly his female equal in terms of beauty.

The video is set to the lush sounds of George Michael's "Cowboys & Angels".

The guy at the 1:50 mark is the more arrogant and aggressive of two local brothers that Liv initially thinks she's in love with and wants to lose her virginity to.

But ultimately, she falls for the more sensitive "Elio-like" brother at 4:57 and they both lose their virginity together after a romantic afternoon in the Tuscan countryside.
