Will Trixie take the crown?
[quote] Will Trixie take the crown?
She'd have to start winning some challenges first.
Kennedy was great this week but Ben is totally dominating the competition so far.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 9, 2018 5:10 AM |
Trixie is funny, but her look is a bit of a one note bore at this point.
BenDelaCreme is a good contestant but can't put on a good lip sync performance, especially compared to Kennedy.
Finally, was great to see Milk kicked out of the competition. There's never been a more humorless and self-unaware contestant.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 9, 2018 5:18 AM |
This season sucks basically it's bendela keeping it from being a complete trainwreck. And kennedy is NOT funny the judges are idiots for giving her wins in comedy challeges when she just acts like a ghetto fool.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 9, 2018 9:36 AM |
What a total deludanoid Milk was. He's drunk his own Kool Aid and it's not pretty.
Agree with R2 - Trixie's one look is totally boring at this point. Do something different!

MILK is the cutest out of drag but he's a total douche and I was glad to see him go. Snatch Game next week!!!!!

Kennedy was fucking hilarious last night. It wasn’t a ‘smart’ kind of comedy, but I laughed out loud HARD when he started waggling his tongue at poor Jeffy. Kennedy blew me away with that. I wasn’t as amused by the Little Richard performance, but I give him credit for better and more thoughtful genderfuckery than Milk does.
People keep saying Milk is hot as a man. Warm maybe. Amd warm milk makes me sleepy.

[quote]Getting sick of Ben
Ben has rightfully earned every win, but it is funny how it is human nature that people want to turn against someone doing well. But props to him, he is slaying and proving that he is actually an All Star.
Milks level of self-delusion has been cracking me up all season, as does Shangela's commentary for it. Can't believe he actually went home before Marc Jacobs appeared, I was honestly convinced the producers wouldn't let that happen.

It will be very interesting if Dela keeps it up for the Snatch Game challenge next week. Remember, she won Snatch Game in Season 6, outperforming both Bianca Del Rio and Adore Delano, which was no easy feat.

Chi Chi really DESERVED to go home, but I'm so relieved Kennedy sent that Milky snowflake instead. Karma is a bitch!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 9, 2018 4:54 PM |
I’ve always loved Dela and am thrilled that she’s doing so well. I thought Chi Chi would do better. She’s got a great career ahead of her, but she’s got a lot of work to do. Not ready for All Stars yet.
Is that Dela rumor just the work of delusional Trixie fans?
I actually like Milk, even if he is totally delusional about his performance.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 9, 2018 5:08 PM |
Kennedy is not funny. I don't care how many times RuPaul tries to tell me Kennedy is funny...she's not. Kennedy is a sour, judgmental, nasty cow. However, she sent Milk home, so she serves a purpose.
R16, everything I've read indicates the Dela rumor is true and it seems like they started the groundwork for it in episode 2.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 9, 2018 5:14 PM |
I don't understand why the AV Club is creaming itself over this episode. I cringed throughout that challenge. Just awful. And the lipsync was as basic as they come.
Davenport needs to get a sense of humour (it's just drag!) and Milk might be the most delusional queen ever. It's not even annoying, just pathetic at this point. Her leaving before Marc Jacobs' appearance is the most delicious to see.
I would do unspeakable - borderline illegal - things to Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. Always assumed he was a Californian born and raised... until he said [italic]hardest[/italic] and it sounded like [italic]hoardest[/italic]. The Canadian background makes him so much hotter, if that's even possible. Lucky queen who got to lick his nips.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 9, 2018 5:21 PM |
R18 Just drag to us but actually these people’s careers and livelihoods that pay their bills. So it’s probably hard for all of them to always keep a sense of humor. (Humor is part of the job though...)

Kennedy is sweeter than she seems on TV. And she is amazing to see live.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 9, 2018 5:31 PM |
Her bitching about Thorgy's message on the mirror was a red flag for me. I just [italic]cannot[/italic] with people like that.
R19 Livelihood or not, people don't really want to see sour queens who take themselves and everything so seriously. And there *is* no drag without the audience.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 9, 2018 5:36 PM |
I don’t get the hate for Milk. No, he’s not the greatest queen ever and has been a bit delusional about his performances.
But people are complaining that he’s bitchy and kind of full of himself? Have they ever met a drag queen? I’ve met queens with far less talent who are far, far more unpleasant. Milk isn’t even that bad
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 9, 2018 5:36 PM |
Eh. Kennedy is an old school pageant queen. I can see why someone with her background would be irritated. Thorgy was annoying and I don’t think I would’ve been able to stand him for one more episode. For the life of me, I don’t get why people are so in love with him.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 9, 2018 5:40 PM |
I’m glad to see Milk go home but part of me thinks she would’ve had a meltdown had she been eliminated in front of Marc Jacobs. ChiChi got it right when she said she should’ve waited for AS4.

They saved her from the bottom in the first two episodes, even though she deserved to be there. Three episodes in a row being saved by the producers would have been too much, so they didn't really have a choice based on her performance. She and ChiChi were clearly the bottom 2.

Milk is toxic. All that hype post Season 6 went directly to her already big head. If she comes back I’m not watching.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 9, 2018 8:11 PM |
Milk seemed quite deluded by the end of that episode. More than just a edit.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 9, 2018 8:16 PM |
R28, yeah Milk was the worst. It was an improv challenge, and the whole point of it, as Ru specifically explained to them, is to be generous with your partner and to say "yes" so that you can build some kind of scene together. That was the challenge.
Milk not only gave a one-note (and that note wasn't good) performance which landed her in the bottom, but she also impeded the scene as a whole, and she tanked her partner's performance, too, by not giving her a chance to say anything. Oh, and her look wasn't good, either. That's a 100% fail for Milk.
Chi Chi was also terrible, but at least she stayed out of Shangela's way, so that Shangela had a chance to succeed, and so that the whole scene could come off a little better. Ru actually misspoke in the challenge intro. You're not just supposed to say "yes" to your improv partner, but "yes, AND" -- you're not just supposed to agree (like Chi Chi did), but it's very important that you also add something after agreeing, to keep building the scene (and Chi Chi didn't). Chi Chi just kind of agreed with everything Shangela said, and left it at that. Shangela had to do double the work, but at least Chi Chi let her DO double the work.
Milk was worse. Milk wanted to be good, personally. She didn't understand that if she'd worked with Trixie, and not against her, they could have had a great scene that would have carried both of them to the top, or certainly be safe. Instead she shouted over Trixie, ended up in the bottom and went home. Milk was worse. That bitch was hoisted by her own petard.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 9, 2018 9:16 PM |
Thorgy is a delight.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 9, 2018 9:26 PM |
So we've heard all about Trixie, Shangela and Bebe (or if Bebe's a spy then Kennedy) being top-three, and Ben taking herself out to let another queen return (names vary, but lately the rumor is Morgan, although Chi Chi was part of the story originally).
No one can fault Ben, objectively. ALL THE QUEENS have their look and that's pretty much that. Actually, so far Aja has diversified the most, I think. But you can't fault a queen for lack of diversity, because I'm seeing diversity within their brands. They don't go outside their brands, if they have one. Why should they? None of the winners ever have changed it up that much, including Sharon. But they all had polish.
WIth that said, yeah, Trixie's going to have to step it up, and Ben's going to have to leave, for Trixie to come up. Without Ben, Shangela is tops, but she, too, is one-note Sally. And she's exhausting - not in the mode of the other two All Stars, nor in the mode of any other winners except the execrable shithead (but at the time gorgeous) Tyra. Kennedy won't win because she just doesn't have the capacity, although she can be great at times. Bebe is not a champ, either, and wouldn't have won any season but Season 1. Aja lacks the finish, but has come a long way. Chi Chi is the beloved filler.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 9, 2018 9:27 PM |
But WHY did Ben taker herself out? It's odd.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 9, 2018 9:29 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 9, 2018 9:31 PM |
R47, it could be true, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 9, 2018 9:33 PM |
I think some people are overreacting to Milk. He isn’t toxic. He had an overinflated impression of his own talent and was so desperate to win that he couldn’t see the forest for the trees (working as a team with Trixie, which could have been a great pairing). None of that makes him a psychopath.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 9, 2018 9:38 PM |
I sort of couldn’t believe that Chi Chi said she should’ve waited for All Stars 4. This is part of her problem. An All Star doesn’t think like that. She will be fabulous one day, but she has to believe that she’s fabulous before that can happen.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 9, 2018 9:42 PM |
Shangela and Bebe are Dela’s only real competition. Trixie is funny, but she was such a dud on season 7, the idea that she wins seems like an idea cooked up by her delusional fans. She’s got to step it up in a very big way for that to be believable.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 9, 2018 9:45 PM |
Of all the Drag Race queens I've ever seen live, by far the most entertaining was Shangela! She can really sing, dance, tell jokes. She's awesome, and very naturally charming. I pray that she wins this damn thing!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 9, 2018 9:47 PM |
Plus Trixie has achieved her own fame, since ultimately the decision is left to Ru, I'm sure he'll give it to someone else
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 9, 2018 9:47 PM |
Trixie pretty much has to win Snatch Game next week for me to believe that she's at the top level, let alone the winner (despite the rumours).
Chi Chi isn't at the All-Star level yet and knows it. She's doomed. Love her, but next week is most likely the time where she's put out of her misery.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 9, 2018 9:49 PM |
Sorry, I love her on S8 but Chi Chi had a year to prepare for AS3. Everybody knew it was happening. This was recorded in the summer of 2017. As2 finished airing in Oct 2016.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 9, 2018 10:58 PM |
Everyone keeps saying Chi Chi “isn’t ready”—even Chi Chi. That’s ridiculous. Chi Chi was great years ago in his season (one of my favorites), and now he’s a dud. He’s not improving with time, unfortunately.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 9, 2018 11:14 PM |
I knew if Kennedy won that Milk was toast (see what I did there?)...If Ben won, then I think ChiCHi would have gone home...we'll see next week won't we....(they bothe would have kept Aja because she is no competition)
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 10, 2018 12:09 AM |
It's also good to remember that people turned down AS3 (as apparently they did for AS2) so we're not seeing the actual "dream team." Some of the people are a bit "filler."
Even so, I think all of them are interesting and worth watching, except Milk who just has neither taste nor talent.
Milk gets the pass he gets from a lot of people just because they think he's hot as a man. THAT'S hardly the criterion for supporting a drag queen. And Milk's looks are most often thrown together and rather senseless. That's not fresh or forward-looking or challenging. It's clueless arrogance in action. And that's what his edits gave us, and they seem accurate descriptions of what happened, especially given what Aja had to say about it all.
I agree about Trixie needing a win, especially in Snatch Game. The funny thing (well, not funny in this context) is that the early rumors all said Trixie swung and missed in Snatch Game.

by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 10, 2018 11:41 PM |
Trixie is boring. A clown should be funny at least and she's not. Bendela deserves to win but it'll be Shangela since she's black and Ru likes her more.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 11, 2018 12:19 AM |
R65, what's your opinion about Shangela's talent? Are you saying she's not a contender? Just curious, because the way you laid it out, she would only get it for color and favoritism.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 11, 2018 1:05 AM |
Shangela is pretty good, she has amazing personality, but Bendela is just great.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 11, 2018 2:43 AM |
Has Bendela had a good lip sync for your life / legacy performance? He's great at the scripted and improvised stuff, but I can't see him winning a lip sync against any of the other remaining contestants, not even Chi Chi or Bebe who are the two weakest queens left.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | February 11, 2018 3:40 AM |
Kennedy said himself that Milk's no trouble when they tour. If he doesn't have a reputation, then it's fair to say he's not the asshole he came off as this season. He's no doubt feeling himself with his little modelling success but there's been no Sharon/Alyssa type stories.
I don't think ALL his actions (and lack of perception) were a put on but I do think he decided to be the Phi Phi, or in his mind, the Alaska, of AS3.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | February 11, 2018 3:44 AM |
The lipsync sucked because the lead vocal is sort of deadpan and the bank of backing vocals seem to carry the most exciting/intense parts of the song. Both queens were too intense in the face for that vocal, though I understand why they did too much rather than too little. Terrible song choice.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | February 11, 2018 3:47 AM |
A true All Star Queen should command the stage and deliver. If they momentarily falter they should have the talent to turn it around then move on. Bianca, Bob TDQ, Jinx and Alaska can do this in performance. I think Ben and definitely Shangela are delivering over all. Shangela had the edge because she can bring the drama then pull back. Team Angela. I notice though, Shangela is morphing into Alyssa Edwards at times. Must be a Texas queen thing.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | February 11, 2018 3:51 AM |
I think some dislike Ben because although he's perceived as wanting to be liked/not to offend too much, he's actually too conservative for reality TV. He doesn't pour his heart out or act messy. He delivers in the challenges but doesn't give a vivid window into his psyche - like Katya did on his season.
Bianca similarly didn't act a fool on her season but she gladly engaged in confrontation, reading a bitch here while helping out another bitch there - allowing viewers to warm to her in a way that they haven't to Ben.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | February 11, 2018 3:52 AM |
I mean Katya gave a window into her psyche on her season. She obviously wasn't a slayer in the challenges.

R72 presumes to know that people haven't warmed up to Ben.
Bullshit, Omniscia. Just because you queens don't get Ben and have to keep the posts on it coming, Ben is the most polished, professional, engaging, funny and rather gorgeous (in her way) dragger in the show. Unlike some other winners, she doesn't necessarily seem like a person I'd want to spend time with in real life (although I'd strangle Tyra and fall asleep with Bebe's yammer), Ben also isn't toxic.
Such boring twats here. Except the one who noted that Ben the Man does the vocal fry and upspeak but Ben the Woman doesn't. Such a smart observation. And, yes, I think Ben the Man as presented is more a construction than is Ben the Woman.

by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 11, 2018 9:49 PM |
Are any of the queens truly funny? Bob with his Purse First? Bianca with her Rolodex of Hate? At the most, they can be described as mildly amusing.
The comedy is either at the queens’ expense or from the writers who provide the lines read by the judges during the critiques.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | February 11, 2018 10:02 PM |
I think Alyssa Edwards (unintentionally), Katya and Shangela are pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | February 11, 2018 10:05 PM |
They're all good. The sniping here is silly and seldom interesting or insightful. I'd certainly rather spend time with any of the queens in AS3 than the dullards proclaiming racism and superior opinions with no evidence.
Shangela has come a long way and looks great on the runway but there's something a little too bright about her edit. I wonder if she's going to have a big dip in her trajectory. Because behind all that mouth and push there doesn't seem to be a real person, and the show doesn't ever present a two-dimensional winner. Aja gets the "come the farthest" prize. Ben is "most polished." Trixie is "wittiest and strongest brand," even if twats here declare otherwise. Kennedy is "best pageant-drag/old-style performer queen."
But they're all fine - at least B+ for Drag Race and A in the drag world - within their own schtick, now that Milk is gone. He seemed the weakest in terms of general drag. Poor Thorgy and Morgan are fine,m too, although they both can be irritating, Thorgy for her exhausting head trips and Morgan for being brittle in her drag persona. It's a matter of personal preference. Even messy Chi Chi is fine on her own terms, coming across as the one you'd most want to take home for dinner and donate to for good dentistry.
Here's to something being done to R62, who is as tedious as that racist lunatic up-thread who hates the 97% of people who are smarter than it is.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | February 11, 2018 10:36 PM |

Also, I generally like Kennedy and can be really talented in some comedy challanges, but she can really be a bitch when she wants to. Trixie is taking an enormous risk impersonating RuPaul for Snatch Game.
After season 9, I'm over queens impersonating other queens.

I don't like Trixie or her drag. There I said it. Bendela as Paul Lynde sounds like fun though.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | February 13, 2018 5:39 AM |
Trixie’s 10 year old fans will eat that shit up, no matter how badly she fucks it up & insults Ru.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | February 13, 2018 8:57 AM |
R91 I think Bianca is legitimately funny, and Bob can fake being a comedian well because of his charisma. Bianca’s stand-up special is decent among non-drag stand-up specials. I recently discovered Bob’s “Suspiciously Large Woman” documentary on Amazon, and it mainly consists of a live performance at some small Georgia club. He’s no Joan Rivers, but he carries a one-wo/man show the entire time he’s onstage...more than mildly amusing, but not a laugh riot, either. Really more of a one-man/one-woman stage show...that’s still quite something, as Drag Race among other series have shown us the exceptional sort of talent a person has to have to singularly keep the energy up without dead air.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | February 13, 2018 9:33 AM |
Thorgy, Milk & Trixie have been getting dragged on Twitter lately for their blatant racist bias against the black queens. It’s parhetic how obsessed they are with pointing out Shangela, Chi Chi & Kennedy’s flaws while their basicness gets a pass between them.

I would love to see a RuGirl take on Bette Davis for Snatch Game.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | February 13, 2018 12:35 PM |
I loved Alyssa’s Joan Crawford on All Stars 2. It was the most bizarre thing ever and bore no real resemblance to Joan whatsoever, but it was so unintentionally hilarious and crazy that you just didn’t care.
Chad Michaels did Bette on All Stars 1 and it was fantastic.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | February 13, 2018 2:25 PM |
Trixie should stick to music IMO. Her album was pretty good. However, she's not funny, is she? She's only really amusing when she's playing Katya's straight man.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | February 13, 2018 2:27 PM |
Trixie’s choice is either going to be really good or really bad. And she needs to win this challenge if she’s going to be in the top 3.
Dela’s choice is similarly risky, but thankfully Kennedy already already set a precedent for doing a male impersonation for Snatch Game.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | February 13, 2018 2:28 PM |
I'd rather Dela do Charles Nelson Reilly!

by Anonymous | reply 116 | February 13, 2018 5:09 PM |
R116 I'm not a fan of the Trixie clown makeup, but I commend her for creating something to make her stand out from the rest, a trademark. That pic of her in Bebe she looks utterly plain and forgettable.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | February 13, 2018 5:32 PM |
R114 Yup, why haven't any Snatch Game contestants done Charles Nelson Reilly or Brett Sommers? Too young?

Brett [bold]Somers[/bold]

Trixie is a trained make up artist and her aesthetic is “extreme version of a child’s toy” and not “clown.”

Lol at Trixie stirring up drama and then acting dumb.
She’s doing RuPaul which means she’ll be in bottom or top.
Chi Chi is doing Maya Angelou so she’ll prob do the worst...
by Anonymous | reply 125 | February 14, 2018 8:49 PM |
I hate Maya Angelou and if Chi Chi does a cutting version I will cheer it. More black people should have seen through her total BS. The boilerplate eulogies to her greatness when she died, Including coming from POTUS, were an embarrassment.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | February 14, 2018 10:48 PM |
If Chi Chi were able to pull off a smart satire of a smart iconic woman following her brainless airhead performance last week, it would be comeback of the year. I can’t imagine that happening though. I have a hard time imagining that Chi Chi has ever read or listened to Angelou.

Thanks r129. Now that's how you make Maya Angelou funny. Lol. Come on, Chi Chi, deliver the funny!
Ben is very smart, she knows how to make Mama Run laugh but Paul Liynd is kinda safe--for her at this point.
Trixie, though, can do spot on impersations and be funny. Trixie has the edge because she is taking a big chance. Can't wait to see this one. I will predict Trixie for the win.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | February 15, 2018 4:48 AM |
Trixie's Rupaul impression is great, she used to do it all the time on youtube. It seems like it is edited for her to fail, but they might be trying to throw us off.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | February 15, 2018 9:28 AM |
Aja will be doing Crystal LaBeija and Bebe will be Grace Jones, which are both great choices and should be a lot of fun.
I disagree about Paul Lynde being a safe choice for Bendela. If he doesn't nail it he could easily bomb. And then there's the additional risk of doing a man, which Michelle Visage at least does not take kindly to (she's railed against queens doing "boy drag").
by Anonymous | reply 133 | February 15, 2018 1:34 PM |
Maybe Andy Cohen will be a Snatch Game judge and get all offended that Ben is impersonating him before he realizes it’s supposed to be Paul Lynde.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Leaker Sued for Copyright Infringement
By Gene Maddaus,
The producers of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars” sued an anonymous leaker on Thursday who has been giving away spoilers from the show on social media.
World of Wonder Productions is seeking to unmask the person behind “RealityTVLeaks,” who operates accounts on Instagram and Twitter. According to the suit, the account-holder has obtained video of the show before it airs, and posts clips and still images on Reddit, as well as on social media.
The images reveal the contestants’ outfits, and the account sometimes gives away which contestant will be eliminated.
World of Wonder has issued takedown notices for copyright violation, but the user set their Instagram account to “private” to make the infringement harder to track, the suit states. Last week, Instagram apparently suspended the account.
When asked to explain the spoilers in a Reddit discussion, RealityTVLeaks answered, “I’ll be here every Thursday with bomb leaks to keep ya quenched until the episode lol.”
World of Wonder argues that the leaks are cutting into the value of the show for viewers by giving away the ending.
“Defendants have made clear that they intend to continue to upload and disseminate infringing content prior to the airing of each new episode of ‘All Stars,'” the suit states.

by Anonymous | reply 144 | February 16, 2018 1:33 AM |
I felt Trixie's little breakdown was real. She came into this season with such high expectations, everyone expected her to finally prove herself on the show and be a star...and she has disappointed. Again. It has to be hard.
Man, Bendelacreme continues to dominate this season like no queen has done before. He won all four episodes in a row, crazy.
Him and Shangela were obviously the best at Snatch Game, and have been the best of the season so far.
Chi chi not even be able to spell her character's name was epic, glad she was finally put out of her misery. She knew it was time for her to leave and took it head on, she didn't want to be dragged along like Roxxy was last season.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | February 16, 2018 2:27 AM |
Also Shangela is the best at reality TV. Her confessional saying the internet told Trixie that her Rupaul was funny, and her speech to make it seem like she was sending Trixie home, bitch is reality TV gold.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | February 16, 2018 2:32 AM |
Shangela is the WORST - how people find her delightful is a complete mystery. He is such a climber and so desperate to try to make his cheesy act into a brand. Bendela also just tries. too. hard. the incessantly peppy act is just terminal tryory. both of them are so massively pleased with themselves it is just atrocious to watch. they should be the winners of ross matthew's drag race - not rupaul's...

WORST SNATCH GAME EVER
And it was on ALL STARS how embarrassing. Trixie was atrocious as Ru and now we all know she won't win
The more I see of Ben the less charming he seems and I use to really like him
Shangela is the only one that makes sense to win and I'm not thrilled with that choice
All Stars 2 remains the best of the three.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | February 16, 2018 4:58 AM |
I went from being surprised that Shangela was cast and that she agreed to do the show, to being glad that she's there, and now finally to flat-out grateful when thinking of how this season would be like without her.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | February 16, 2018 6:53 AM |
Shangela did Jenifer Leeis perfectly...but I’m not sure that that is really a level playing field since she *lived in her house* and had tons of time to absorb her mannerisms. It was entertaining, though.
Ben was great as Paul Lynde. No Bewitched references though...?! That’s RuPaul’s favorite TV show aside from Judge Judy. You’d think watching this that his only work was Hollywood Squares. Not my favorite of his efforts, but better than most of the others.
Phaedra Parks is so ridiculous that she could have been great for parody, but it’d take a quick wit to come up with her goofy Southern lady bon mots...Kennedy did not show that wit.
Speaking of slow wit...Chi Chi...loved you in your first season, but you should not have answered the phone when World of Wonder called you back. This is a career killing season.
Trixie was terrible.
I’m not sure about Bebe as Grace Jones. She’s...OK. Forgettable.
I like Aja more than most people here seem to, but I don’t know the celeb she tried to play, so no comment.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | February 16, 2018 9:42 AM |
I thought Aja's Crystal LaBeija and Ben's Paul Lynde were the best of the bunch.
If you don't know Crystal LaBeija you need to watch the classic 1968 documentary The Queen *immediately*.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | February 16, 2018 10:17 AM |
Ben is having the series that I thought Trixie would have had. Aja, freaking Aja, is doing better on All Stars than Trixie. Love her, but I would have been fine if Trixie had left last night.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | February 16, 2018 10:23 AM |
Trixie is in a way the most disappointing because even if she has done arguably better in many challenges (NOT last night’s) than other contestants, hopes for her were higher from the beginning. She clearly thought she was going home last night, or at least the edit made it look that way before the lipstick was pulled out.
I hope Trixie doesn’t upset the competition and win it because she’s done miserably for the first half and it wouldn’t be fair overall.
Ben is SO talented. It’s ironic that as a drag queen, he’s funny, witty on the fly, can act and has great costumes and body language but the one thing he falters with is lip synching. He just doesn’t have great charisma up against many of the others when made to face off in that way.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | February 16, 2018 10:37 AM |
I loved how Ben was concerned about losing the lip sync and going "1 for 4", when he had 'lost' the 2nd and 3rd lip syncs by throwing them both.
Aja - gotta give her credit, I really expected her to quietly exit at the end of the first episode and that be it for her, but she's exceeded expectations.
That makes it the second time (in a row) that a queen has impersonated someone from Real Housewives of Atlanta and failed at it. Plus before that, the bottom two from Season 8's Snatch Game were the queens who impersonated Nancy freakin' Grace and Tiffany fuckin' "New York" Pollard, both caricatures themselves. I wonder why it's so difficult to succeed impersonating these cartoon characters?
by Anonymous | reply 159 | February 16, 2018 10:46 AM |
I've seen Trixie perform live and she is fabulous--a great queen. But she is not bringing to it to AS3, which is the same thing that happened the last time on she was on Drag Race. There are some very talented queens who consistently under-perform in this format and she is one of them.
The queens I've enjoyed the most so far on AS3 are Ben and Kennedy. Aja has been a delightful surprise. Last time she was just okay but this season she's been really really good. Shangela is fine but so far I've liked her better in the confessionals than in the challenges. I'd be happy to see any of these four win it, though of course Ben is most deserving thus far, because he's been killin' it.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | February 16, 2018 10:47 AM |
R159 Phaedra is actually funny in her own way by delivering weird, over the top good-Southern-materialist-Christian lines all the time, and a person would have to have a strong wit to compete with that. But then there’s the low-hanging fruit of her being so proud of being a Christian lawyer who represents strippers and runs funeral homes as a hobby. That’s easy comedy.
Ben is right to be concerned at this point, I’d think. If it all comes down to lip syncing on this show, then getting to the final leg of the race and failing 75 percent of the time should count against him. He definitely threw the second one, and I also think he threw the third. Probably not the best idea in the long run, although he probably was wary of being voted out for being too much of a thread, and of backlash from viewers for being indomitable. Or maybe he just really isn’t good at lip syncing.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | February 16, 2018 11:02 AM |
R160 I feel the same way about Shangela. She has been solid from week to week but doesn’t stand out to me except when doing commentary out of drag. Maybe she is too polished as a performer and not cartoonish enough or something. I’m really not sure what it is. But even though I think she is objectively better than Kennedy, I notice Kennedy a lot more than I notice Shangela. This is the Season of Ben de la Creme, though. Every episode has been a showcase of his many talents, with everyone else varying from week to week.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | February 16, 2018 11:06 AM |
Shangela flat out won that lip sync. She wins the crown as far as I'm concerned. I knew Ben would do great on the show, he's very perceptive and talented and one thing that very few queens are, a good actor. However, I am getting tired of his looks and Runway persona. Same as in season 6. Could that Bebe rumor be true? Her Grace Jones was barely there. But she is forever "safe."
Not only was All Stars 2 better, it was the definitive one and always will be. The choice of queens was right and they all delivered repeatedly. Tattiana wasn't supposed to be there, but she belonged. Alaska would win that crown over again on this season. On All Stars three, I don't even remember who's gone. Chi Chi lost some weight and bought some pretty dresses but he also lost whatever native and naive charm he had. He's a club queen who stole Kennedy's act and he doesn't do it half as well. Boy is Chi Chi dumb. He is not a kid, I think he is 31 years old. Every white person in the world can do a better impersonation of Maya Angelou than he did. I was cringing.
Aja is a lot of fun - very creative and pretty in drag if you squint. At least Trixie will not win. How is a one trick performer who always chokes and then whimpers in self pity an All Star? I would be happy if Ben sticks around and wins, but out of this crew, Shangela shines like the true winner.
Chenoweth as always was a good sport and a good time. Marc Jacob had the kind of plastic surgery that makes you look older? Ru's wig line was not so great Delta Work.

DeLa's Paul Lynde was fun and snappy, but she didn't [italic]quite[/italic] nail the voice—she made him sound Southern. Still, she was head and shoulders above the rest. If she had wanted to avoid the boy-drag route, I'll bet she could've done a great Alice Ghostley as Bernice Clifton.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | February 16, 2018 11:32 AM |

Worst Snatch Game ever. Trixie's choice was genuinely misguided, but Kennedy's and ChiChi's were criminal. I'll miss ChiChi's attitude and hoped the poisonous Davenport would get the boot.
Shangela is getting on my wick with her motor mouth that spouts garbage most of the time. Economy of language, gurl; look it up.

[quote]So what past contestants who weren’t on AS1 or 2 would have been better cast than this season’s lackluster contestants?
AS1 contestants should be eligible for new editions of AS going forward, since AS1 was such a fuck-up. I would love to see Tammie Brown and LaGanja Estranga on a future AS4, though both are unlikely for different reasons.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | February 16, 2018 12:30 PM |
Aja had to go through the same disillusionment on her season that Trixie is going through now. The social media bubble of adoring fans is a bitch when it collides with reality.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | February 16, 2018 12:33 PM |
R175 Tammie is fun to watch and reliably peculiar. I have always found LaGanja to be unbearable to watch. God, she worked my nerves with her put-on way of talking and constant unfunny jokes about cannabis. Marijuana is legal and common all over the US, LaGanja. It’s not edgy anymore. You and Andy Cohen and Bill Maher need to give the I’m-cool-cuz-I-smoke-weed schtick a rest already. It’s like bragging that you drink Coca-Cola.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | February 16, 2018 12:39 PM |
Nevertheless LaGanja and Bendela were heavily courted to be on All Stars Two. Bendela did speak about it at the time. He didn't want to reenter the competitive aspect of the show. LaGanja just said no.
Courtney Act and Willam are obvious choices for All Stars, but RuPaul won't have them.
Valentina, Mariah Balenciaga, Joslyn Fox, Ongina and Kim Chi would all be good choices too IMO. That doesn't mean I like all of them but I think they have enough of what it takes to compete at that level.
The complete cast of the first All Stars should be allowed to do it again as single competitors. Manila, Jujubee, Raven, Tammie, Yara, Alexis, Pandora, Shannel and Latrice. Retire Chad and bring in Sharon Needles and Valentina to shake things up.

If you think this was the worst Snatch Game ever you clearly have not been watching this show for very long. This was actually one of the better Snatch Games of the series, even if it wasn't as good as AS2. But then AS2 was maybe the best Drag Race season ever, so . . .
by Anonymous | reply 181 | February 16, 2018 1:13 PM |
I think it was one of the worst Snatch Game, because the bad ones were boringly bad, not entertainingly bad. That was Trixie's biggest crime—she was a bore. Season 3's is still the worst, though.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | February 16, 2018 1:17 PM |
I'd love to see Shea Coulee and Trinity Taylor on AS4. Also Darienne Lake, a very underrated queen.
Willam, Acid Betty, and even Max would also be interesting choices but since they're not in the good graces of the RPDR powers that be they're unlikely to be asked back.

by Anonymous | reply 184 | February 16, 2018 1:30 PM |
I like Chi Chi as a person and as a performer but Drag doesn’t seem to be the best choice for him. Even with expensive wigs, makeup, and outfits, he always looks like a handsome boy in a frock. I admire him for asking to be eliminated from the show.
Has he given community college courses a shot? Do Millennials even do that? Or are they all seeking social media fame?
by Anonymous | reply 185 | February 16, 2018 2:05 PM |
Well Chi Chi was in a gang in his late teens and described the sights and sounds of someone getting shot to the Season 8 queens. I'm fine with Chi Chi continuing drag, but community college during the day doesn't sound like a bad idea. It's not Insta-sexy, though.

Season 8's Snatch Game is the worst of all of them. The best one is AS2 and S6 (Bianca and Adore would have won any other season, but Ben just killed it).
For Trixie to win, she would have to win every single thing from now on, and I don't see that happening....but I do think she makes it to the end. The editing (Michelle's speech, her confessionals) make it seem like her storyline now is going to be 'bringing the Trixie everyone knows' to the race, kind of like Pearl after the confrontation with Ru.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | February 16, 2018 2:50 PM |
Season 4 gets my vote for worst Snatch Game. I can't handle the constant twitching from Kenya, Phi Phi and Milan, in addition to the second hand embarrassment from Jiggly's awkward "smushy" stunt.

Season 10 is premiering March 22nd. Right after All Stars ends, they are keeping this train going.
Every episode is 90 minutes, plus they are airing untucked on television again. So two hours of Drag Race each night.

[quote]Season 4 gets my vote for worst Snatch Game. I can't handle the constant twitching from Kenya, Phi Phi and Milan, in addition to the second hand embarrassment from Jiggly's awkward "smushy" stunt.
Not to mention Latrice was visibly pissed at Kenya's and Jiggly's antics.
[quote]Why are Willam and Max not choices? They have beef w Ru?
Willam has been shading Ru and the show off and on since his season. Max has made it know that he's bitter about his edit, particularly during critiques before he was sent home.

Do they decide who is bombing on Snatch Game as they are shooting? Or are they reasonable generous to all the queens and then shoot all the reaction shots after the main shoot is done, and when its obvious who bombed? Ru was quite merciless with a few of the fuckups but then they added lots of edits to make the lame performances much worse. Kristin Chenoweth had to play off that shit? Poor dear.

You queens are so royally condescending - Chi Chi must try "community college". Chi Chi should get a scholarship to Brown or Bard and charm her way through gender studies (if someone writes her papers for her, as she is probably barely literate).
by Anonymous | reply 196 | February 16, 2018 5:18 PM |
We didn’t get a funny scene with judges while the queens were deciding who gets the chop :(
by Anonymous | reply 197 | February 16, 2018 5:18 PM |
The previous episodes aired for 90 minutes, this was the first one this season that aired for an hour r197. That is why it felt very condensed.

I don't like it when the edit rushes through the final runway, as they did after snatch-game.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | February 16, 2018 5:21 PM |
Production reportedly didn't like Max because (1) she habitually took too long to get in drag and (2) she was a different person on camera than off (she censored herself because she knew her family would be watching). The weird footage where she seemed to be having a breakdown during critiques was editing revenge.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | February 16, 2018 5:45 PM |
I don’t mind a quick edit through the runways most of the time, but I do prefer episodes that feature a fun mini-challenge before the big one. It moves things along and interjects some lower-stakes fun.

I, for one, am tired of these queens playing reality tv stars on Snatch Game. Some of us don't watch that shit and have no idea if the impersonations are any good.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | February 16, 2018 6:05 PM |
Shangela is fine. Nothing more. Her look is still off and not 100% polished. Her wigs still look off, IMO. She's not someone I think of as a winner of AS. Ru has been pushing her as a story line from the start so it will be no surprise of she wins. Ben is far more polished and refined., IMO. I was a Trixie fan for AS3 but she has done terrible so far.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | February 16, 2018 6:07 PM |
R204 yes there's no shade saying sotto voce that Chi Chi is illiterate but should go to Brown.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | February 16, 2018 6:14 PM |
Be happy that the queens are impersonating reality tv stars and not YouTube stars which is on the horizon.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | February 16, 2018 6:46 PM |
Ben is killing it. I am trying to remember her season. She seemed to have issues with self-confidence, didn't she? I definitely think there is a part of her that is uncomfortable with success because she thinks that beating the other competitors and doing so well and sending people home will make them not like her. And maybe she is so insecure she didn't expect to have to lip sync so she didn't really prepare as much as she could have which would explain why that seems to be her weakness? Or maybe that just is her weakness. Whatever the case, she's the clear front runner and good for her, I am enjoying everything she is bringing to the table.
I like Shangela too. She's come such a long way since we first saw her back in season 2. But so far she's runner-up material. She is really creative with the lip syncs and solid with everything else she's still second to Ben.
As far as who would round out the top three, when the season first started I would have said Trixie but sorry to say she's not really bringing it. She's funny when she's riffing with Katya but the spark just isn't there so far. She might be able to turn it around. Maybe her Snatch Game performance and thinking she was gonna go home will light a fire under ass and she'll up her game.
by Anonymous | reply 209 | February 16, 2018 7:08 PM |
R208, it already happened in Season 9. Farrah Moan impersonated that "vacuous individual" (thanks Magdalen!) Gigi Gorgeous, and ended up in the bottom 3.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | February 16, 2018 7:11 PM |
LaBeija was a surprisingly smart choice - pretty easy to do, a way to show respect for drag history, and AJA was inventive with her lines.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | February 16, 2018 8:03 PM |
Snatch Game is a bit overblown, it’s true. It can reveal some real talent and quick-wittedness, but 85 percent of the impersonations are poor and unfunny. But the show would be missing a lot without Bob’s Carol Channing, Ben’s Maggie Grace, Adore’s Anna Nicole, etc. Maybe there’s a newer format that could showcase celeb impersonations in a different way that would allow us to enjoy more than a few lines of the characters. A standup comedy challenge with the twist of performing as a camp celeb might work. Hopefully not a lame choreographed lipsynch dance performance that wouldn’t give them the opportunity to speak for themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | February 16, 2018 8:07 PM |
Yeah honestly Snatch Games are rarely that successful, people remember them through rose-colored glasses.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | February 16, 2018 9:01 PM |
The snatch games are usually good when the contestants choose universally know people (Carol Channing, Maggie Smith, even Anna Nicole Smith), but these recent individuals chosen seem very clique-y and "in the know" which almost always fall flat.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | February 16, 2018 11:04 PM |
Universally known people to eldergays, perhaps. I may be wrong, but I don’t think that the tween girls who “ship” the queens are big Carol Channing fans.
by Anonymous | reply 215 | February 16, 2018 11:35 PM |
But Carol Channing is timeless, camp, and obviously a part of Tammie Brown’s psyche. Part of what this show does is connect homos of today with gay and campy pop culture history.

Trixie choked. She should a played Ru Paul ala Chad Michael's Cher--that is, breaking that fourth wall and moaning that a royal like her self is getting hives just sitting amongst the other contestants. Aja is getting good. She has all the makings of a decent queen. And her aesthetic is improving. Ben is a true professional, so witty and has really good looks. I love Shangela, she is like Alyssa Edwards, naturally entertaining. I don't predict who will win. Maybe 2 winners? Ben and Shangela? That would be a first.

Not sure if Trixie put up Thorgy's note to psych out Shangela - I doubt it because I don't think Trix expected Shangela to be in her space - but it seemed liked Shangela really blew it out of proportions. "WHY would you hang that up?! It had MY NAME on it!!" Trixie doesn't seem to be the confrontational type, but I was hoping she would have turn to Shangela and said something like "Gurl, step down off that pedestal. The ewhole world doesn't revolve around you."
by Anonymous | reply 230 | February 17, 2018 3:32 AM |
On the subreddit, someone posted that Ben told the crowd at a viewing party that Shangela is a reality show expert. That “outrage” and “insult” over the Thorgy note was pure theater for the camera while Trixie’s reaction was genuine.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | February 17, 2018 3:37 AM |
Aja's snatch game was basically a re-boot of her Alyssa Edwards, one trick pony.
I really hope Kennedy ups her game next week, she could make top 3 if she would just stay consistent.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | February 17, 2018 3:43 AM |
Shangela purposely blew the note out of proportion to rattle Trixie, and it worked.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | February 17, 2018 6:00 AM |
This snatch game was the worst because it was BORING. Even the few queens who did good impressions didn't hit it out of the park. Ben's Paul Lynde was good but a let down compared to his past performance, and Shangela was an excellent Lewis but still wasn't classic.
Yes Season 4 Snatch Game was a train wreck on an epic scale, but it was ENTERTAINING.
And Season 8 was a GREAT snatch game (Thorgy as Michael Jackson, Kim as Kim Jong Un, that Seattle queen did Vreeland, Chi Chi did a decent Eartha Kitt, plus Britney Spears and Carol Channing) so that upthread cunt can go exfoliate itself.

Trixie is being really salty on social media toward Shangela. She really can’t handle the fact that her one note Rupaul didn’t translate over into the show, the 12 year olds that told her it was amazing really inflated her ego.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | February 17, 2018 9:42 AM |
Trixie was a homely whiner who thought he was more talented than he really was on season 7 and he's even uglier and more entitled now. I don't even know what his talent is. Passive Aggressive comedy I guess. He reminds me of Kristen Wiig. Funny for the first few minutes and then years of torture. He's not a drag queen to me. He has one look and lots of ugly clothes. Of course he thinks Shangela is corny and tries too hard. Well, she's a professional and she has the imdb page to prove it. And Miss California Entertainer of the Year, Chad Michaels was HER runner up! And she knows Gaga and SJP and still lives with Jennifer Lewis and gets cast in films and tv as both DJ and Shangela. Bitch can dance for real and he's petite and cute. He looks like a woman in drag. Katya's fans hate Kennedy to this day, I guess Trixie wants hers to hate Shangela. Rupaul's Drag Race is not racist but more than a few of the contestants and fans are. Remember when Trixie told RuPaul he didn't want to be teamed with Ginger again because she outshone him the first time? And then he went home. Again. Shangela is a completely different animal than Trixie and her hard work shows too much, but she sure the fuck shines and delivers. She's multi-talented. And like Kennedy, she's getting death threats from the "fans."
by Anonymous | reply 239 | February 17, 2018 10:40 AM |
It’s interesting...seems like Aja, who was hated and called ugly and untalented before the season began, has clawed her way up to some people admitting she has some talent. But even so, it seems like she has to work twice as hard as Trixie, for example, for most people to see it or say it. Trixie, meanwhile, has failed miserably this season and people continue to say what an excellent performer she is...just never when cameras are rolling. Well, that’s a pretty big issue when one is on a TV show.
And Shangela seems to have deployed a legion of fans who are taking a Russian Trumpbot approach to trashing his opponent (Ben) and giving Shangela the sort of obsessive star treatment Beyonce usually gets. Shangela is talented to be sure, but the insistence she is Queen of All Queens here is over the top and a bit suspicious. She hasn’t done anything particularly remarkable this season...consistently entertaining, but she hasn’t stood out to me the way Ben has. And I am not trashing Shangela, just saying that Ben has really found his groove here and I feel like Shangela is not standing out quite as much. And I know that by saying that, someone will follow this post with six pro-Shangela posts calling me a Nazi and showing how she performs at Mickey’s bar and is therefore basically the same as Madonna. (It’s just a little TOO much, Shangela fan. Come down to earth.)
by Anonymous | reply 242 | February 17, 2018 12:49 PM |
Ben ends his video at R240 with, “It’s just a TV show. It’s just drag.”
It’s something when the star of the TV show whose livelihood and bill-paying ability depends on drag has a more sober understanding of the stakes and importance than people who watch the show do.
It’s just a frickin TV show. People need to chill out. (I’m talking to you, rabid fans of ________ who are intent on proving the superiority of your favorite TV character over the others.)

Shangela is an actor, and understands what makes reality TV interesting. It's amusing seeing people (other queens, the viewers, etc.) constantly falling for her antics. Sure it's disingenuous, but she wouldn't keep doing it if she was getting no reaction from it.
Willam was the same way in Season 4. She did her thing and gave no fucks, yet it so bothered some of the other queens who just kept getting trolled again and again by her (I'm looking at you, Phi Phi!).
by Anonymous | reply 251 | February 17, 2018 6:23 PM |
[quote]yet it so bothered some of the other queens who just kept getting trolled again and again by her (I'm looking at you, Phi Phi!).
So true. PhiPhi is a toxic combination of stupid and sanctimonious, and Willam clocked her from day one.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | February 17, 2018 6:25 PM |
Shangela is 50% drive, 40% schtick and 10% talent.
Willam is 60% drive, 15% schtick and 35% talent.
Ben is 30% drive, 20% schtick and 50% talent. "Have you ever taken out a catheter?" is an example of that intelligence in the act of serving drag.
Alaska, in comparison, is 60% drive, 20% schtick and 20% talent., But he knows how to make the most of the talent and he hides the schtick.
Shangela would be an unworthy winner because NONE of the winners except Tyra has been graceless. Shangela's raw push and attention to experience is all she has. He's irritating and crude and just not bright enough. Cunning is not the same as talent. Ru goes for the spirit, as odd as that seems.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | February 17, 2018 6:34 PM |
R253 Your assessment seems right to me. I’d say overall, Ben, Jinkx and Bianca are the most authentically talented ones from this show.

Shangela, in the confessional, turned and pointed to the camera, and said "y'all told her on the Internet it was funny. I blame y'all!" regarding Trixie's impersonation of RuPaul.
It was at that point where Trixie's teenage fangirls suffered a collective triggering, and now Shangela is getting it on social media.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | February 17, 2018 6:43 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 257 | February 17, 2018 6:46 PM |
Tyra was abysmal. Tyra actually downgraded RuPaul’s stock for me because RuPaul usually emphasizes respecting one another etc., and when everyone collectively agreed Tyra was a super asshole to everyone, Ru didn’t give a shit and actually from that point on seemed to favor Tyra. I really disliked “her” and didn’t see any talent beyond twirling around in dresses. That season ended poorly. Imagine Tyra having to compete against Ben in All Stars.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | February 17, 2018 6:47 PM |
R253, do you consider Violet's win an exception to going for the spirit?
So many of you have commented about Ben's consistent display of talent and lip syncing skills as a possible weakness. Agreed. My take: Her lip-syncing is more bone spur than Achilles heel: When it doesn't work, it's serviceable, when it does, it brilliant. However, I always feel like I'm watching a pantomime lip sync when she's doing her thing, whereas some of the others (from good to awful) seem to interpret the songs through a character's implicit experience.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | February 17, 2018 6:48 PM |

Hey R264. Ben has been great every episode. It's the Lip-Sync For Your Legacy issue (not applicable so far for regular season competitors/winners.) When Alaska won AS2, she won the most challenges and their corresponding LSFYLs (4). I'm not sure how that's holding it against her when it's now a part of winning the AS competition. It could hold her back from the crown.
We're only four episodes in. Ben has been Top 2 twice and won one tie-win with Shangela). Shangela has also been Top 2 and won twice (sharing tie-win with Ben.) She needs more Top 2s and LSFYLs to really kill the beast.

Ben's showgirl look is anything but versatile. I am very surprised that Michelle has not called him out on the repetitive silhouettes and hair. That and his lack of lip synch skills is why he was eliminated in season 6. His looks are always well executed, impeccable. But he only has one look.

R279 I don’t blame her. She must have been so excited to redeem herself, practiced, etc., and then got there and got the dreaded news it’s a “teams season” (ALWAYS a failure for a reality competition show), and THEN got paired with the nutball who was kicked off for manhandling/assault. He had the right to be pissed.

It's pretty amusing now to look back at how Logo wouldn't shell out the budget for a proper All-Stars season, when Drag Race eventually became its only cash cow and then became too big for Logo and was moved to VH1.
The queens from AS1 who got eliminated due to their partners losing the lip sync should be brought back for AS4 (Pandora, Nina Flowers, Latrice Royale I guess even though she was a disappointment in AS1). Not sure what to do about those queens who lost their lip syncs fair and square from that season.
[quote]I am very surprised that Michelle has not called him out on the repetitive silhouettes and hair.
Michelle got a lot of flack from viewers for getting on Ben's case during S6, saying that she was 'hiding behind costumes'. So I'm not surprised at all.

Michelle is an idiot and her critiques are awful. I guess the show needs a straight woman so that it isn’t too aggressively gay.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | February 19, 2018 6:54 PM |
Michelle is the Ed McMahon to RuPaul’s Carson. She laughs on cue, flatters him, helps to set up jokes and jumps in to fill awkward lags in conversation. They’ve worked together for decades. She’s there more as a comfort animal for RuPaul than as a drag judge.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | February 19, 2018 6:59 PM |
Yeah, Ru is very comfortable with Michelle, they go back decades and are used to working together.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | February 19, 2018 7:00 PM |
I actually like Michelle but I think it would be funny to replace her on one episode with Ben de la Creme. No one would notice it’s not Michelle until she opens her mouth and says something funny.

Off topic but does anyone think we'll ever get straight male contestants on this show, or women (of any orientation) doing male drag*? Wouldn't that be kinda interesting to see, as a curiosity of sorts?
Though does that even exist in the real world? Eastern Europe doesn't count as they have their own, de-gayed version of drag there, in addition to the regular drag as we know it.
*I know drag is supposed to be an ode to femininity so why don't we use it to deconstruct (toxic) masculinity as well? And dismantle the patriarchy while we're at it...
by Anonymous | reply 287 | February 19, 2018 7:16 PM |
There is a local Drag King (woman doing male drag) that I enjoy seeing perform. I'd watch a Drag King show but that is not this show, and it wouldn't really make sense for Ru to host it.
There is nothing stopping a straight male drag queen from being on the show, production would definitely love to have one, could you imagine the media interest. But you need straight guys out there who actually do drag.
The main argument that has come up is there are a lot of women out there who think the show should have bioqueens. Which are biological women who perform as drag queens. That seems ridiculous to me, women trying to force themselves into an art form that is about genderbending, and RuPaul has agreed in interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | February 19, 2018 7:24 PM |
R287 No offense, but your last paragraph is better suited to a HuffPost essay than to a discussion of Drag Race.
Drag Race is provocative in many ways, but not didactically so. Its primary purpose is to delight. There is nothing delightful about deconstructing toxic masculinity and dismantling the patriarchy. Well, maybe there is to your cohort of third-wave feminist gender studies drag kings, but generally speaking, that sort of examination is lacking in entertainment value and best suited to academic journal articles that are assigned as undergraduate communications course required reading.
Hopefully Sasha Velour’s chatter is as far as this show is going to take academic-style women’s and gender studies. Drag Race is a spoof of ANTM and Project Runway, not an intensive anthropological study.

Almost all the women parodied in Snatch Game are drag queens who are actual women? Cher, Madonna, Carol Channing, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey...all ovee the top, ridiculous, preposterous drag queens.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | February 19, 2018 7:35 PM |
They are all queens r293, but at the heart of "drag" is gender bending.
Biological women have no business competing in a drag competition.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | February 19, 2018 7:38 PM |
I mostly agree R294, but one thing I like about this show is that there are no absolutes. The definition of drag is DRess As a Girl...but we’ve seen several male contestants embody men who embody the drag spirit without dressing as women...Little Richard, Paul Lynde, etc. RuPaul is smart not to prohibit such things...people can try what they want and sink or swim as a result of their talents. Trans contestants likewise have to not just be pretty women but also embody camp spirit, make fools of themselves, tell jokes, sing and dance. So if a woman came along with a brilliant way to turn the paradigm on its head, I would welcome her. But I don’t think throwing drag kings into the mix is the right way to do that for this show. It would just be too ill a fit, too much of a gimmick, like then Tyra Banks added male models to ANTM. It just wasn’t the same show. It became a statement instead of an entertaining spectacle.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | February 19, 2018 7:43 PM |
Are there any bio-women who have an audience or following for their “drag queen” expression? I’m sure that if some gal had the goods, producers would put her on the show. But they don’t want a pretender.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | February 19, 2018 8:03 PM |
R296 Bio-women drag queens don’t need Drag Race. They become Britney Spears and Cher and get their own headlining tours lip synching to pre-recorded tracks, and gay men pay a lot more to see these bio-queens than they do their own people.

I am annoyed enough that they let openly trans on the show, the better not allow real women. re: trans on the show, all that says to me is either they consider themselves actual women and are cheating OR they know that they are not women and are hypocritics.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | February 19, 2018 9:48 PM |
RuPaul's Drag Race started 9 years ago before the trans revolution. On the show it's been an evolution. Sonique, Jiggly, Gia Gunn, Monica Beverly Hillz and Carmen Carrera all transitioned during or after their time on Drag Race. Peppermint was the only one who entered as a trans woman. With a dick and no breasts. She bought her implants with some of that Drag Race money. I think a trans drag performer CAN still be a subversive genderbending spirit. More than half the fans of the show are gender fluid or confused - so RuPaul was forced to broaden his outlook. Even was Ru was still a club performer in the 1990s a more money obsessed robot you couldn't find on stage. He's seen them all, and he is a pretty keen observer. Even on the show you can always tell who his favorite personalities are. They don't always win of course. We should still be able to call someone a tranny hooker because they still exist on the corner. But you can't. Not on TV. Peppermint took 20 years to transition and was a well known drag queen in NYC before that. It didn't seem to bother nobody. She's a light and a fun performer. Carmen Carrera only wanted to be viewed as sexy and pretty. She got her wish.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | February 19, 2018 10:08 PM |
I fully support trans people, but at the end of the day a trans person is still someone who was born as one gender is making themself look like the other gender. It isn't that different than doing drag, except they want to do it when they aren't performing.
I have no issue or concern whether a drag performer identifies as trans or not. And it doesn't really matter for the sake of the show, no reason for Ru to care (and he doesn't).

Kelly Mantle is truly fluid as far as the "boy sometimes, girl sometimes" thing. He's had both male and female roles on TV and in various Z-list movies, and he uses male pronouns, but he crossdresses for the menz in his life. The current boyfriend is a Marine; s/he also had a longterm partner who died a couple of years ago—a rugged biker type who referred to Kelly as his "wifey."

I am not so certain that drag is solely about gender roles and the construction of gender, etc. I think it is about entertainment. If you are doing something on a stage (of whichever type) then you are doing drag. What people do in their private lives is not drag.

Morgan was hot back in the day. His age is showing now but I appreciate the queens that paint and pad on the woman and don't just buy it at a surgeon. Bendela is like that too. He is performing female illusion. As Rupaul used to say "I'm a man in a dress, but only at night."

Always found Morgan to be off putting despite his having some obvious talent.
Conversely, I still adore Chi Chi despite his crashing and burning this season. His personality is just adorable. But I do worry for him. Why was he so much better years ago than he was now? And I can’t get that maniacal look on his face when he came out twirling the baton in the first AS3 episode out of my mind. He looked absolutely deranged. It made me laugh, but it was an “I’m about to die!” nervous laugh.

by Anonymous | reply 338 | February 20, 2018 1:40 PM |
I don't think Morgan's scary. Bitter and witless, yes. He guested on Hey Qween, trying for a redemption interview, a la Laganja, but he couldn't pull it off fully. I remember he made some comment about another queen, which completely counteracted any positive impression he might have made in the interview. Be a bitch but be funny with it, mean alone doesn't cut it.
by Anonymous | reply 339 | February 21, 2018 4:20 PM |
R339 Morgan is scary *looking* in drag (to me, anyway). It’s not his fault, but his mouth conjures a Cruella Deville vibe or something. It’s just not a face that translates to female well in my view, even if the faux-female face is supposed to be clownish. He becomes a scary clown instead of a funny clown. And I agree, his consistently failed attempts at humor consistently come across as mean instead of snarkastic, so there’s little entertainment value to the character that he presents on my TV screen.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | February 22, 2018 10:52 AM |

I think it's funny when drag stars transition. It was even better when Carmen Carrera caused that huge cafuffle about drag race being transphobic. There's something endearing about a man in a dress getting offended by men in dresses. Rupaul is basically saying "you're just a man in a dress like the rest of us" when he lets them compete.
They would never let an actual woman on the show, because then all the twinks and teen girls couldn't say "yaaaaas bitch Farrah is a biological woman! Two x chromosomes werk!", because when compared to ACTUAL women even the "fishiest" look like outright men. Did anyone else see that pic from snatch game of Bebe compared to Kristen? Jesus.
Gia Gunn was one of the "fishiest" on his season, but when you look at contemporary pics of him transitioned, out in public in a bikini, it's just a regular old trannny - not remotely passable as a woman.
That other anon was right, basically all of the transitioned queens come from conservative/minority backgrounds. This isn't a coincidence.

Aja was better than many this season. I don’t like the elimination choice this week. I really liked the runway look, whether or not he “got” 70s disco. I am almost 40 and I often have a hard time discerning 60s flowy from 70s disco myself. How would a 23 year old have all those references? It’s not like there’s a pop culture/gay camp history course a person can take.

Is it funny to you to ruin others’ preferred viewing experiences? Do you just simply not give a shit? What motivates people to ruin others’ enjoyment?
I really hate this shit. Two seasons ago on Game of Thrones, I thought I was reading creative speculation about what might happen in the last episode of the season. Immediately as I watched it, I realized I had read a scene-by-scene telling of everything that was going to happen in a surprise-filled episode. I think Raven has been doing a good job this season, yes last year there was some rough spots but I cut him a little slack because was brought in at the last minute to do it.
Miss Fame would be interesting, she is a great make up artist. She is New York based though, doesn't live down the street from WOW like Raven does.

Every reviewer I've seen is shitting on this abominable episode today.
r373 This is a spoiler-free thread and you just dumped that Ben info like it's nothing. Completely ruined what's left of my enjoyment of this season. So thanks for that.
I won't even bother with DL when the regular season comes back because there's no point in arguing basic etiquette with these people.

No Spoilers. Just a look at the season 10 queens out of drag. A lot of cute/pretty boys and Eureka. The all star season will make a lot of people mad and is already underwhelming. The sooner season 10 comes the better.

Bob is alright and I am not Katya's biggest fan, still I can't see it working very well with Trixie and Bob. Bob is more an old fashioned joke teller though he used to do odd & kitschy set pieces. Katya and Trixie were very tangential and quite irritating but they for sure had chemistry. I like Bob better than Katya so I am going to give it a chance.

Jesus christ r373 here - get over it I speculated - if you saw the end there were only three...I said I THINK and THAT MIGHT BE WHY...all rumors and not spoilers because I have no fucking idea if it is going to happen I am just guessing. If I said "I think BEBE is going to win" would you have a fucking cow?
by Anonymous | reply 396 | February 23, 2018 11:17 PM |
What was the point of the Soup Cans with the voice overs? The queens are almost all dumb with no history and had nothing to say even tangentially referencing Warhol. Plus they serigraphed all the labels. Then the run was equally horrible with again, voice overs that had nothing to do with anything. The judges were too kind to all of them but obviously the producer/director fucked that concept up - didn't serve the queens at all.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | February 23, 2018 11:17 PM |
You misunderstood the goal of the can voiceovers. It wasn’t to reference Warhol but instead to parody the Warhol Diaries.

Yeah the challenge didn't work for me. At first we were told it was a ball, but the ball episodes have the queens serving three looks.
This wasn't a ball. It was create a disco look and also do some lame shit on a soup can that no one cares about.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | February 23, 2018 11:40 PM |
I love the show and it has provided some great entertainment but realistically the performers are mostly adequate, imagine if we only saw the performance element , it's the workroom and commentaries that make it watchable. Even the supposed jewel, the Snatch Game, is extremely amateur with only a few standouts in the entire show's history. Now the show has hit the bigtime with mainstream attention and Emmys. The current and fairly lame AS3 followed swiftly by season 10 speaks of indecent haste and is already showing a paucity of ideas ( soup cans!?) but there's money to be made. I hope Trixie doesn't win, amusing with a quietly dry wit on the internet but fades away on Drag Race, she's appeared three times now , each time advertised as comedy gold but barely making brass.

by Anonymous | reply 406 | February 24, 2018 12:22 AM |
I think the fundamental problem with the show now is that, when it started, it was an intelligent parody of other competition reality shows. It played off those tropes in a new and exciting and hilarious ways.
Starting around S7, the show started to become a bit self-serious and started to harden and codify into itself, and that's not as fun. It's somehow become less queer and incisive as the contestants began playing "the Drag Race game." LaGanja was the beginning of this, although she was so singular as to make it exciting and combustive and uncomfortable. The second season of All-Stars was a needed jolt, because it brought back some of the camp parody that first made the show so fresh.
I think they should bring back the old format of Untucked, for one, as that was really the heart of the show. Those are my $0.02, anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | February 24, 2018 12:26 AM |
I think this All Stars season has been great, with the exception of the last episode, which was so terribly edited and conceived that I wonder if it might have been some kind of subversive move I can’t quite make sense of. Most likely it was just a terrible episode.
The only other show-related issue I have is spoilers. I’m really annoyed about them. I have enjoyed the performances and the “Handmaid” references. But having read by accident from the very start of the season how things will shake out really fucks up the show for me. Ben has been a revelation and has dominated this season IMO and, yes, Shangela was consistently good too until this past episode. Aja also has been surprisingly good. It’s not a bad season, but the leakers have made it much worse than it should have been.

I still find the show immensely enjoyable, but I agree that it has changed, and it started with season 7.
Also, Untucked is coming back to TV for season 10. Whether it’s the same drab format as it has been since season 7, I don’t know.

by Anonymous | reply 414 | February 24, 2018 3:35 AM |
Maybe it's too soon but I'm sooo excited for s10 since it's a regular season with new queens. What they really need to do is slow down on the allstar shows and air them every three to four years. Makes them more special and allows true all star queens to be ready for it.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | February 24, 2018 3:46 AM |
I think as RuPaul's dominion over the world continues, they should bring the winning drag queens from other countries (not ones who moved to the US) . RPDR: Thailand has some really gorgeous girls. Or bring in the French/British/German girls- they will kick everyone's' ass with their creativity.
by Anonymous | reply 416 | February 24, 2018 3:53 AM |
do the All Stars lip sync at the end of the season to crown a winner? If Kennedy can make it a couple more weeks she would be able to crush anyone remaining in a lip sync.
by Anonymous | reply 417 | February 24, 2018 4:32 AM |
I just saw all the season 10 cast members. Most look like they’re going for “serious model” and boast the fashion photographers who have photographed them, etc. That’s not what I want. I want clown drag, not I’m-a-model drag. Bianca, Bob, Jinkx, Ben, Alaska...Valentina and Tyra look pretty for men in makeup and wigs, but there’s nothing interesting about them at all. I really hope this show doesn’t forget its identity.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | February 24, 2018 12:42 PM |
If you can mix pretty and comedy/wit, like I think some of these new queens can, then I'm here for it.

Someone mentioned how attractive many of the guys are out of drag this time around.
Based on Milk, Pearl, Lineysha, Trixie...that doesn’t bode well for an entertaining season.
by Anonymous | reply 420 | February 24, 2018 1:19 PM |
So you have to be below a 7 out 10 to be a good drag queen?
by Anonymous | reply 421 | February 24, 2018 2:06 PM |
R421 Going by the track record of the show, it seems that way. The “cute” guys seem either lazy and self-aggrandizing (Pearl, Milk) or just unremarkable/less talented than the really outstanding ones. As a general rule; it could prove wrong in the long run, but so far, it’s gone this way. None of the remarkable, outstanding contestants have looked anything like male models.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | February 24, 2018 2:13 PM |
Maybe being more conventionally cute/attractive makes them think they can get by on that, especially when it comes to serving looks or even in acting challenges?
by Anonymous | reply 423 | February 24, 2018 2:55 PM |
Logo was killing me with the space between seasons of RPDI. Ru even made a comment about him keeping the lights on at Logo. It has turned to be an even bigger hit on VH1 thanks to HD (Viacom never really sold logo HD). More people get VH1 than Logo. I just wish they would put more moeny into it for the prize. I think it should be 250K.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | February 24, 2018 3:53 PM |
I wish they would retire Drag Race after Season 10 and one more great alumni season. They can call it what they want but people bitch on here that Project Runway is on All Stars 6 with former winners and never will bes competing for airtime. So let the public pick two queens and RuPaul invite back who he wants. RuDeux.
I understand that RuPaul wants to rise as fast and far as he can with such an unusual product but I think he's hurting the legacy at this point. Leave the new glamor Queens to Youtube or whatever show comes to take Drag Race's Place. Even Oliver Sava of the AV club who has been reviewing every episode of this show for years says that it's just too much poor and predictable product at this point. Nothing against any individual but Ben is not an All Star. He's a great actor and performer, but he's not about to tour the world and work the way that Alaska and Bianca do. Violet is a huge global success but probably know one notices because she doesn't do many drag shows. Season 7 was the turning point and the last one worth watching. (it has a bad rep, but great challenges and a lot of highlights) All Stars 2 was amazing, aside from the elimination twist that still doesn't work for the lips syncs OR for the contestants who are afraid to eliminate someone popular. The rumored extra twist about how they pick a winner on AS 3 is even more cowardice on everyone's part. Time to pack it in and admit that the internet has won. Don't change all the faces of drag. Let the gender fluid crossdressing makeup tutorialists prove themselves worthy to entertain at a bar or club. I'm bored.
by Anonymous | reply 425 | February 24, 2018 4:40 PM |
When something becomes popular and starts making real $$$, it becomes homogeneous and flat. That's just the way that works in a hypercorporate world. Ru and the rest want to rake in as much as they can, and that means sticking to a formula. I can't say I blame them, but how much longer can it last? Will they make it all the way to a Drag Race Season 20? At what cost?

It is interest to think what Raja, Manila, Roxxxy, or Violet would do with this challenge.
None of this cast is known for creating fashion, so the results were understandably lackluster.
I mean they've served some nice looks on the runway, but there is a difference between bringing looks from home and having to create them on the spot.
by Anonymous | reply 429 | February 24, 2018 6:24 PM |
R429 You mean the soup can challenge? Creating fashion had nothing to do with it. A graphic designer/team obviously made the labels.
by Anonymous | reply 430 | February 24, 2018 6:26 PM |
Not the silly soup can, the actual disco looks they created.
Someone like Raja would have turned it out, none of the looks made me gag.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | February 24, 2018 6:28 PM |
Yes R429. Any of them would have slayed this challenge. Even Bianca would have whipped up something definitely disco. Detox can't sew but she would have made it work too.
That's how lackluster this episode was. It was supposed to be DISCO and no one noticed. The best designed outfit was sent home. Nothing about Ben's look was disco or studio 54. I can see what Trixie did but the color was hideous. I know that's her thing. But a loose louche sequin jumpsuit on Raja is more what I had in mind. Kennedy was the only one who pulled off a disco look - mostly with hair and makeup. Bebe was smart, she came as Diana Ross and had Aja make her a sequins dress.
Manila had a great club disco look in Season 3 for the singing challenge. Can't find it now.
by Anonymous | reply 432 | February 24, 2018 7:03 PM |
Instead of running reruns of this episode, VH1 should just play an hour-long loop of Vanessa Hudgens’s dance off with the pork chop.

R287 There have been numerous straight men who were on drag race in the early seasons. Maybe not numerous but they were there. Also having drag kings on a show for drag queens wouldn't be wise. For one, drag queens don't follow the same rules as drag kings so every season, they'd have to have two winners so as to accommodate the differences between the two. Also bioqueens only started wanting to be on the show when Drag Race became more main stream. They're just trying to jump on the bandwagon. In my opinion, all three should have different shows.

A season of first out contestants could be disastrous—but maybe they could do a mini-season of a few episodes where all the first outs get a chance to compete for ONE spot on a season proper. That could be fun. My money would be on Kelly Mantle or Jaymes Mansfield.

Doing cans was a terrible way to cite Warhol - idiocy - and the disco runway looks were almost all terrible.
I hope that the rumors that Shangela is being set up for a big fall are true, but it seems like a lot of the spoilers have been false trails. As the only contestant left who hasn't won an episode, Trixie had better start getting the redemption edit in the next episode if anything's going to work for her.
Ben's leaving is Trixie's only hope, because Bebe is a fossilized joke (yeah, sure she's 36 - she looks 20 years older and creaks when she hobbles), Kennedy is too limited, Shangela is a craven, egotistical second-rater, and anyone brought back would have no chance to win because that's not how RPDR works.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | February 25, 2018 2:34 AM |

How about fewer gimmicks and more actual talent? Project Runway ruined itself for years with gimmicks. ANTM killed itself with inconsistent changes. Deag Race ruined its first All Stars season the same way Runway had already ruined an entire season, by making everything teams based. Why can’t producers get that no one wants to watch “new and improved” shit that ruins the qualities that made a show a hit in the first place?

In addition to [italic]Drag Race Thailand,[/italic] there was an official Chilean version in 2015–16 called [italic]The Switch Drag Race: El Arte del Transformismo.[/italic] The format was very different in that the challenges took place in front of a live audience as well as a panel of judges: a mini-challenge, a main challenge, a singing challenge, and an "Elimination Duel." There were also vignettes about the contestants and their personal lives/families. Basically, a hybrid of [italic]Drag Race[/italic] and [italic]American Idol.[/italic]
A second season was taped in 2016 but has yet to be released for mysterious reasons. The theme was "Chile vs. The World," and Gia Gunn and Kandy Ho were two of the contestants. Gia was such a cunt to everyone that she made national headlines in Chile.

I think a season of first out contestants would be good- Victoria Porkchop Parker for example. Don't forget Shangela was first out season 2.
We could Have Porkchop, Venus-Dlite, Alisa Summers, Penny Tration, Kelly Mantle, Tempest DuJour, Laila and Dax (technically the first two out since they brough back Naysha), Jaymes Manfield. Not as a regular season but an all-stars "redemption" episode.
by Anonymous | reply 485 | February 28, 2018 9:45 PM |
I think Kelly Mantle herself is posting in this thread.
Absolutely nobody has thought about her since she was eliminated years ago, but her name keeps popping up...

They should do a “How In The Hell Did She Make It So Far???” season starring Aja and Chi Chi and Roxxxy Andrews and the other boogers who inexplicably lasted beyond episode one of their season.
by Anonymous | reply 487 | February 28, 2018 10:30 PM |
Who are the idiots who keep asking for a first out season? 99% of the time first outs were the lamest. Who would want to watch that?
by Anonymous | reply 488 | February 28, 2018 10:35 PM |
I'd rather have a winners season. However, not enough of them would want to come back and compete because it would be so defeating and embarrassing for the girl who is eliminated first.
by Anonymous | reply 489 | February 28, 2018 11:00 PM |
Yeah, what would be benefit of some of the winners returning to the competition?
Some like Jinx and Sharon Needles have said they would do a winner season. The hardest one to talk into it would be Bianca, she recently said she wouldn't. And I don't blame her, there is no benefit to her returning.
by Anonymous | reply 490 | February 28, 2018 11:02 PM |
It would just be so epic to have all the winners compete. What if they upped the prize money?
by Anonymous | reply 491 | February 28, 2018 11:12 PM |
With the exception of Bob and Bianca there were no clear winners any other season..Jinx, Sharon? please.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | February 28, 2018 11:20 PM |
I love Jinkx. He’s one of the most talented by far IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | February 28, 2018 11:37 PM |
I like when there aren't clear winners. Bob and Bianca' s seasons were anticlimactic because you knew they'd win. Season 5 was so exciting cause Jinkx was an underdog.
by Anonymous | reply 494 | February 28, 2018 11:41 PM |
Jinks was only an underdog to her cast mates. She was the most appreciated by fans and judges. Most seasons there’s a clear winner anyway. Only exception is when Sasha won and that was only due to the lip syncs in the finale.
by Anonymous | reply 495 | February 28, 2018 11:44 PM |
Violet was a bit of a surprise winner over Ginger. Ru made the right choice.
Bob's season was the worst. Yes he was the clear winner but he wasn't a drag queen. He didn't serve one good look other than the one the show provided him for the Empire spoof. The talent was very weak that season. Bob is funny and unique, but it was the worst season IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | February 28, 2018 11:59 PM |
I'd much rather watch season 8 than 7 or 9, but that's not saying much.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | March 1, 2018 12:01 AM |
[quote]She was the most appreciated by fans and judges.
Eventually. When the season was first starting no one expected Jinkx to win. It wasn't until the nearly the midway point it became clear what a force of nature she was.
Even at the time of casting it was widely expected that Bianca and Bob might win. You can tell from episode 1.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | March 1, 2018 12:03 AM |
Nine was the worst season for me. Sasha, the pseudo intellectual, is insufferable.
by Anonymous | reply 499 | March 1, 2018 12:04 AM |
[quote]Yes he was the clear winner but he wasn't a drag queen. He
Bob's actual drag has improved. Jinkx's actual drag was rough her season as well, but has improved.
They were very similar winners. Very talented when it came to performing, but weak on their aesthetic. They each lip-synched once, the ball episode
by Anonymous | reply 500 | March 1, 2018 12:08 AM |
Sasha is a pretty great performer. Peppermint was a lot of fun, Shea was fierce and Trinity was to me the best on season 9. It's all been downhill since season 6, that much is true.
by Anonymous | reply 501 | March 1, 2018 12:09 AM |
I agree that S9 was the worst. Trinity “The Tuck” Taylor deserved much better. Happy to see her post-show success.
Hopefully the producers learned from S9 and cast some entertaining and talented queens for S10.
by Anonymous | reply 502 | March 1, 2018 12:09 AM |
Season 6 was the peak. You could not beat that set of queens. There was a little bit of everything among that group of 14 - it wasn't skewed towards just one particular "type".
by Anonymous | reply 503 | March 1, 2018 12:12 AM |
The top three of season 6, Bianca, Adore and Courtney have all become drag superstars in their own right.
by Anonymous | reply 504 | March 1, 2018 12:14 AM |
What’s a shorter question? Which top 3 queens aren't successful or which ones are?
by Anonymous | reply 505 | March 1, 2018 2:04 AM |
Season 6 WAS the last good season, but season 7 will age well because it produced Trixie and Katya.
8 & 9 are just all out duds.
by Anonymous | reply 506 | March 1, 2018 5:15 AM |
Season 5 and Season 6 are definitely the peak of the show—especially when including Untucked in the consideration. Those seasons are endlessly entertaining with countless classic moments. Season 4 is a close third.
by Anonymous | reply 507 | March 1, 2018 12:50 PM |
All the seasons are entertaining to me. Maybe my least fav of the last few is 8 cause it was so obvious Bob would win and Derek Berry was fucking annoying!

Who did Willam out?
by Anonymous | reply 518 | March 1, 2018 10:04 PM |
The list of Willam's transgressions and microaggressions is very long. Who wants to go through it all? He isn't really a potential drag race winner as much as he and his fans think. There's so much he can't do. Ru did give another chance on Drag U, but Willam said shit about the show again and he will never make it back on Drag Race. He really doesn't translate well, the show has moved on. Recently Willam has become very "sensitive" apologetic and woke to trans and genderfluids, (he loves fluids in his gender region) different body shapes and teenage angst. It's never fun when a proud asshole sells out because he's afraid of losing $$. I think Willam is where he belongs. He's obnoxious, tangentially amusing, predictable and ubiquitous. As in just about over. My friend was in negotiations to cast Willam in a very successful play. Very long and fucked around negotiations. Willam really is a dick and quite possibly a sociopath. Hustler. Dude has the best clothes and cosmetic procedures, but he's not really drag. He's a high paid tranny hooker who thought he was an actor. He's over that now. He promotes himself and books prostitutes. Rupaulogize is still a good song.

Morgan was a good choice. She’s a quality queen who can make the most of screen time since she’s from S2.
I still love Milk but maybe she needs to step away from the microphones for a minute. I have only so much sympathy for handsome, healthy, young white American men who cry “victim.”

by Anonymous | reply 551 | March 2, 2018 2:30 AM |
Willam just doesn't take shit and the problems between Ru and WIllam started when they asked him to be on All Stars 1, booked her and she cancelled gigs and a paid acting job to do the show and at the last minute Ru called to tell her they changed their minds, and that Willam didn't need all stars she was already a big star. Willam got pissed and made the Rupologize video. The producers also did not like Willam, granted he broke the rules but he also knew a lot about tv production and would call bullshit on them. They hated that. Willam also called out Ru for just regurgitating lines she is fed from an earpiece. Even in dragrace there is a certain amount of bullshit you have to put up with and WIllam just didn't.
by Anonymous | reply 552 | March 2, 2018 3:21 AM |
The vulture writer points out how pissed they were that we are supposed to believe Ben won that lip sync. Yeah, of course Bebe was much better, but it is an established fact that Ru hates the played out drag trick of ripping off your wig. Unless you have a real stunt with it, he considers it bullshit and has made that clear.
Of course was Bebe removing her wig manufactored? Who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | March 2, 2018 3:38 AM |
I'm so ready for season 10 to hopefully make up for this bullshit season. I know it's "reality" tv but Bendela's stunt seemed fake as shit. Give the crown to Trixie and move on.

Well I did not like that, not one bit.
I did like that Morgan was brought back.
Bendela was the clear season winner, honestly.
WTF do they make the winner do?? Is it that horrible that Bendela didn't want to continue?
I hadn't seen any spoilers so this was a total shock for me.
I hope Shangela wins. Kennedy isn't all that talented and Trixie is sort of muted and boring.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | March 2, 2018 4:18 AM |
I think Creme left because all she wanted was to build her fan base. She won numerous amounts of money already from the challenges. She already proved herself. Bebe is there so as to reach out to a new generation when we all know, she's probably not gonna win, but is just a plant.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | March 2, 2018 4:29 AM |

This type of thing wouldn't happen if Ru didn't abdicate her role as drag executioner. Stop making the queens decide who stays and goes. It's too gimmicky and makes the workroom less fun and the challenges less important. I'm bummed to see Ben go, but she had already won beaucoup bucks with her cumulative win total and basically devalued this season's crown by eliminating everyone's stiffest competition: herself.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | March 2, 2018 5:22 AM |

When they do these group numbers, they always seem to be dressed and made up by production. Ben never looked better than in that heavy eyeliner wild hair black gown goth Bendela. That's not his drag, I'm sure. Same with all of them. Have another look at Milk and Trixie. Bebe and Shangela looked like themselves but everyone else was wearing makeup they wouldn't seem to be able to see on themselves. I almost liked Thorgy again until her dick comment at the end.
[quote]Thank goodness Bebe took off her wig like an amateur. Ben had to win that lip sync and that made it easier for them to justify.
Every spoiler, including this very specific one has been true this year. Bebe would never take off her wig, unless the spoiler about her is also true. Ben couldn't just come up with some whiteout. Why are the old babies here so gullible. Production new, Ben had to win. Bebe is not there to win. Beyond that I won't spoil no more. But every one knows now who wins and how they place. Bendela was great. Too great to want to be as big as Alaska or Bianca. Ru looked pissed but it's hard to tell, he's become a solid C level actor over time. The spoilers are no doubt all true. I can't believe that weirdo wins.

That was good tv but it fucked up the season. Whoever wins will always be questioned if it was default with Ben gone. Ben made the rest of the season void because everyone will say she would've won had she stayed. Like Oprah pulling her name out of the daytime Emmy race years ago. Holier than thou crap.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | March 2, 2018 11:36 AM |
I wonder what was going through Ben’s head all season. I can imagine he was worried about how his inability not to win and his obvious throwing of the final competitions were coming across on TV. He probably was concerned viewers would resent him for dominating everything and making the season anticlimactic as discussed above, and I do believe that he was genuinely troubled by having to kick off other people. If the show is competitive, then the gimmick of a different winner booting the loser every week has some appeal. But if it’s the same winner every week, then that winner ends up not only resented because of the domination but also because it’s really an unfair balance of power. Ben tweeted last night “if you don’t like the rules, make your own.” Had he just made that point on the show, I think it would settle better with me, but the speech he gave really did seem more self-aggrandizing than truly selfless. I’ve got weird mixed feelings about the decision. But I do think this guy is probably the greatest overall talent the show has given us...so I guess job well done, Ben.

Have you seen those two white gay guys who are reacting to this show on YouTube? I love Trixie but she's just not bringing it. The only other one who comes close is Shangela but she's not quite there either. Maybe with their biggest competion gone the others will start to shine and up their game.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | March 2, 2018 2:33 PM |
Still confused over the logic of Ben's decision, but it was hers to make and we'll have to accept it. Bebe removing her wig and ensuring she would lose the lip sync was out of character; I think she was aware of what Ben wanted to do.
As it stands, it's the dumbest thing a queen has done since Yara Sofia gave up during her lip sync against Alexis in S3, or Shannel declaring that she didn't want to stay in S1, both of which occurred within spitting distance of the finish line.

R578 Ben was over it. I believe that he was bothered by having to do the dirty work and just didn’t like that rule, and honestly I can even imagine how monotonous and pointless it may feel to easily win week after week. He had to try not to win in order not to win. What a weird position to be in.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | March 2, 2018 3:19 PM |
The Vulture review upthread really nails what likely went on this episode.
"But then BeBe absolutely slays the lip sync to “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” by Deborah Cox. Put her performance in a gay club and the children would scream until the bottles of Absolut Açaí shattered. Ben clearly doesn’t know the words to parts of the song and gives nothing extra in her interpretation. Categorically speaking, BeBe wins that lip sync.
Except she doesn’t. Ru inexplicably chooses Ben, and we have to guess it’s because of BeBe’s wig removal being a disqualifier. It’s the worst moment of the season for how obviously manufactured it is, even while we as an audience are fully aware that this is a produced reality show. It’s a nakedly low moment, and perhaps an inflection point for the series that might begin prioritizing stunt-y drama over talent. Not since Pearl defeated Trixie Mattel in season seven has there been such an obvious disregard for truth, and we may very well have the O.J. trial of RuPaul’s Drag Race, we still feel cheated out of seeing a fair, square competition play out for the remainder of the season.
Ben’s savior complex kicks in and she selects Morgan McMichaels to return. She then eliminates herself, driven mad by the stakes, unable to send any of her sisters home. Forget that she has done it all season long. She’s had enough, and proudly walks away. RuPaul feigns annoyance as if she wasn’t aware it was happening, and BenDeLaCreme, an unprecedented five-time challenge winner, leaves the competition by choice in a debatably cowardly move. All we’re left with is phallus-obsessed Morgan and a plot of scorched earth.
Can a drag-queen reality-competition series jump the shark? No. We don’t think so. The episode establishes its tone right away when the three queens who were back to compete were suddenly joined by the missing two, who were “late.” RuPaul cackles villainously and then suddenly asks whether she left her iron on in her dressing room. This show is knowingly and purposely stupid, because it’s drag. But there is a question to be asked about whether or not the show is providing the best entertainment possible when it’s focused more on shenanigans than the work and art of drag. We miss that about the regular seasons, and are even more eager for season ten to start now that this has all gone down.
Ru, we’re gonna talk directly to you right now: Stop with the nonsense. You stop it with this manufactured fakery and hokum. We want to see the best of the best compete for the crown. Do we even want an All Stars 4 now that it’s possible and probable that Delta Work will beat Shea Couleé over some tomfoolery? We just don’t know anymore."

I'm just picturing if they had actually declared Bebe the lip sync winner, next episode Ben sitting on the couch with everyone "Uh yeah, I wrote my own name actually, it was going to be this big thing. Oh well". Just the absurdity of it would be pretty funny.
Also, that Vulture writer was correct when they clocked that Ben didn't even know the words to the song in parts.

I don't think that's right. The part they are talking about, Ben wasn't singing the background words—and neither was Bebe—but rather doing the vocalizations on the lead vocal line.

I'm really starting to hate Bebe and her haughty ways. Come back down to Earth, bitch. Someone needs to put a stop to it.
I so dearly hope that Shangela wins this thing. I love Trixie most of the time, but Shangela is amazing. I've seen many of the queens from previous seasons perform, and the best of the lot was Shangela, no question about it.

Talented entertainers vs. entertaining drag queens:
Ben de la Creme, Bob, Bianca, Jinkx
—
Alaska, Shangela, Detox, Raven, Tatianna

So why did dela do this wouldn't she get more notoriety and better gigs as an all star winner? Is this to come back for all star 4?

R587 Question: Is it possible that Ben told the truth in his long, drawn-out speech? If so, then Ben told us exactly why he did it and people can stop asking. And in a tweet after the episode aired, he wrote “If you don’t like the rules, make your own.”
He didn’t lime eliminating his friends. Yes, it’s part of the game but he never liked the rules and so he opted out.

What? Of course she gets more notoriety out of doing what she did than she would've if she just competed and won "the crown".
She created an iconic and memorable TV moment that she will always be remembered for. She was able to leave the show with a practically perfect record. It is very calculated.

Is there something going on, like The Stepford Wives, where once likable queens are being killed off and replaced by identical-looking robots with different personalities? When did Thorgy become such a twat? Milk, too, seemed fairly decent in her season, but she was a loathsome cunt in this All-Stars season. The formerly Awful Aja was both capable and lovable this season. I've enjoyed this go-round in general, but it seems to me that a lotta queens gone topsy-turvy. Or bottomsy-turvy, as may be the case.

Detox was right when she tweeted, "Y’all @bendelacreme just won the whole goddamned series."

I can forgive the martyred tone of Dela's speech. In the moment, when that emotional, what he is trying to say came out so grandly. Coming in I thought this was Trixie's to lose, with only Shangela as possible competitor. Now whoever wins will be a lesser victor. Aldo, I call BS on the edit that Kennedy is doing worse in the competition than Trixie. Kennedy has actually won a legacy lip sync, something Trixie is unable to do.

Aja is a bootstrapper who worked hard and improved. Is Milk is really into drag for a career? He seems to be a gay man who wants to be fabulous. He probably isn't getting as fabulous as quickly as he wanted and is bitter. Thorgy maybe got a bad edit but yeah she was a twat first time around.
Other questions?

Kennedy has done MUCH better than Trixie.

Depends on how you look at it. Trixie has only done badly on one challenge (Snatch Game). Kennedy has done badly in a couple, even with yesterdays episode she was clearly the worst IMO.

Her incredibly dismissive attitude towards Aja wasn't cute. She didn't even try to empathize with him.

Cameroonians are very class conscious.

Bebe looks a fool in that fedora with a cowl. His wild jungle runway diva character is still pretty entertaining but what a prissy bitch the man underneath is.
Also, why did Ben bring back Morgan? Aja was the clear standout on the other team and a debatable bottom two the week before. Are we really supposed to believe Bendela felt bad for eliminating him? Have people forgotten the Ben who was unpopular with the other contestants on season 6 because he was always bragging about his wins and keeping score of others?
Darrienne, Courtney, Adore and Bianca are all best friends to this day from that season. Ben was not loved by the other contestants. He won America's favorite before Valentina, because the real Miss Congeniality of his season was Joslyn Fox. I like Bendela and think she's fantastically talented but way too calculating. He played this well. I give him that. He's a Drag Race legend now.

It’s fun to watch nasty, ambitious queens like Alaska or Detox give their competition “the chop.” But it’s sad and awkward when a “good guy” like Ben has to do it.
If they do an AS4, I’d be surprised if they keep the current format. They’ll need a new way for queens to get the chop without upsetting the huge fan bases.
