Timothée Chalamet To Play King Henry V In ‘The King’
Would be another great role for Timothée.
Timothee Chalamet is firming his first starring role since being Oscar nominated for his breakout turn in Call Me By Your Name. Chalamet will star as the title character in The King, a Plan B-produced drama helmed by David Michod. Production will start in June.
Chalamet will play the young Henry V. After his brother is killed in battle before his coronation, a young king is coronated in the late 1300s. The reluctant ruler wears the crown at a time when England was near a war with France, and the empire is teetering. He rises to the occasion, admirably. Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce.

Will it take place in a Soho loft during the 1970s? Will he get to wear his green suit?

Hopefully it's as good as his role on The Sopranos

I don't like Mia, but I'm fed up with all the calls to boycott (against people associated to Woody, Mia , the Badabook, or whoever). You don't like an actor, or a film topic : you are free not to go. Why should we want everybody to act like us ? So we feel validated ? So you indulge in the pleasure of punishing ?
That said, I don't care about Henry V. But, hey, enjoy ! Good for the young man if he gets many different roles.

Chalamet would be more appropriate for Richard II or Henry VI than Henry V, though he could possibly pull off the "Prince Hal to fledgling King bit". I just don't see him exhorting an army off to war without everyone giggling.

I agree with R7: Chalamet is not the one who springs to mind when one mentions Henry V.
But then again, maybe as the younger Prince Hal, featured in Henry the IV ? The future king as a rebellious prince. He'd be able to weep in the scene where his father dies.
Do you think Woody Allen could play Falstaff even if he doesn't look the part ?

I keep going with the Prince Hal idea. There would have to be Hotspur. There certainly a way to insert a dong in the scenario with Hotspur.

R60 I’m not talking about at this right moment, but when he begins his next promo tour and when he promotes his movies ( generally speaking). He should drop the boy next door act because as another user said that can go only so far ( see JLaw) and mature. Also, engaging with his fans on Twitter and putting smiles or other emojis for every thing they do just to keep up the vibe is not very professionally. His every interaction with his fans ( who are mostly teens or in their early 20s, never seen him interact with an older fan on SM) hypes the excitement and all that “awwwww how cute”.

R57 Except he's got talent. Talented people can afford flops, specially if the industry wants to make them happen. He will flop at some point, but unless his fans that act like his mother and want to protect him from bad old Hollywood, he will be okay and cherish the growth.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 16, 2018 1:10 PM

Hiddleston was a middling Henry. Both Olivier and Branagh were far better.
Chalamet as Henry V is a laughable idea. Yes, he's talented but he doesn't have the voice to pull it off.
Edgerton is also talented but he doesn't always register well on-screen. For one thing, he was fine Stanley against Cate Blanchett's Blanche du Bois on stage.

How would staying off social media prevent him becoming 'like jlaw' who isn't ever on social media... The media created her entire persona based on 'funny' interviews etc whereas timothee is known for being 'awkward and cute' not the 'relatable class clown' so not really comparable ...

@r61 wait u must be old if you're actually annoyed he interacts with fans closer to his age...

R60 / 66/ 67 ( same user) Nah, but you’re being obtuse if you don’t see it. Just take Lucas Hedges for example, he has every SM put on private, he does his job and his stans aren’t like Tim ones. A coincidence? Yes, he’s not good looking and 99% gay, but how he behaves and his fandom make him a more “serious” actor, without the craziness the name of Timothée Chalamet is attached to. The “awkward and cute” persona of this guy, for his benefit, needs to change come next awards season. His interaction with his fans and I underlined the age because that demographic is usually the one who can make things go viral and bluntly put is more than half of his fanbase at this moment ( maybe with Dune things will change) is childish and needless in his case. Between an actor who’s surrounded mostly by teens/ early 20s and one who doesn’t have that problem and still can deliver a good performance, which one do you think the studio executives will choose? His 2M followers on ig can be translated into bucks or not? How many of them will actually go see BB at the theatre? Anyway, I’ll stop here, because this debate has already been done many times. If you’re a Tim stan ( don’t know, I give you the benefit of the doubt) you’re gonna write the same old things all over again. I just gave my opinion on that matter.

.. 'Lucas hedges stans' yea there is people who are fans of his but let's be honest he currently has like 5 stans....
I like timothee yea but you people are so weird the way you talk about this career/persona as if you can change things?? He's doing fine and gaining popularity by doing literally nothing.

Lol he has been hiding himself away for months to no avail. They´re talented, so they may have done an excellent job, but overall my first impression is that both actors look like 2 children playing kings, too young, Hiddleston and his co-star didn´t have that problem.

He was 28/29 when the final battle happened, got married 5-6 years later and died soon after, seems like the movie will focus especially on the battle since it's still one of the most brilliant examples of war strategy ever. Unless they age him a bit it's gonna be difficult to take him seriously as a 30 years old strategist who spent most of his life in battle fields.
