This pic is alleged to be of the boys who worked at Paresis Hall, a gay club featured in the Alienist.
The little building next to the old Village Voice hq was Columbia Hall, better known as Paresis Hall in the Alienist & history.

R3 proves that even 100 years ago, there were cookie smellers.

Jennie June an early Trans worked out of Paresis Hall

i pray they recast the whole dam show in the sequel, cept for luke......
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 8, 2018 3:55 AM |
The last episode was better. Daniel Bruhle is ill cast and underperforming.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 8, 2018 4:33 AM |
indeed, wtf with his dead eye style of acting, and voice of a dummy to a ventriloquest.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 8, 2018 4:55 AM |
Yes-he just doesn’t seem to know how to play Dr Kreizler. His hair color is all wrong too.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 8, 2018 5:02 AM |
director's fault, he the one who approves casting.....
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 8, 2018 5:07 AM |
anyone sad to see the alienist over???
best series ive seen in long time, cept for the frog in Bruhl's throat. do him talk like that in real life??? geesh
awesome ending. cant wait for the 2 sequels...
luke was fab.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 27, 2018 6:47 AM |
I missed it. Did they show the killers face or ass?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 27, 2018 6:57 AM |
I really liked ms Fanning as she progressed thru the show. Not only strong, but so pretty in that last scene in her nice purple chiffon evening gown at dinner with the boys, clever overhead show of them clinking glasses of champagne.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 27, 2018 7:10 AM |
I liked Bruhl. He's supposed to be repressed and weird.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 27, 2018 7:16 AM |
WHY IS HIS VOICE INDECIPHERABLE? ITS THE SAME WAY IN INTERVIEWS, THE MAN IS A CHAIN SMOKER. WEAK.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 27, 2018 7:20 AM |
Yay, the young ho that luke was friends with didn't get killed. Hope he in sequel
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 27, 2018 8:41 AM |
Maybe luke will have a bigger role in the next one. and dr a smaller one...I found him a bit creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 27, 2018 10:14 AM |
They really fucked up the portrayal of the doctor. He spent most of his time just being really creepy. I read the book a while ago, but I seemed to remember him being smarter and a little bit less morose than Bruhl's portrayal. I mean Luke and Dakota pretty much did all the work in the show while Bruhl trudged around in the dark mumbling to himself.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 27, 2018 10:55 AM |
No kidding, I'm half way thru the book, flummoxed by the way they let Bruhl choke his way thru. it was like a wrench in the piece, he was adrift and ..yes, mumbling ! Luke beside him sounded/looked ike Lawrence Olivier ! how did bruhl get this far in his career with that voice, I too listened to him on you tube and seldom is his voice any more clear, a bit, but not really.
Such a beautiful production, just way odd casting of him.

Fanning did a nice job, she wore a tight corset, for realism. gotta give her A for effort. Great role for her.

I'm still blown away by the sets. Every small detail just perfect, , one just wants to freeze frame the interiors and observe the complex furnishings, knick knacks.. the rooms in Laszlo's home were lovely....
Ide have paid to see in in the cinema, fill the screen with those magnificent nyc streets of turn of century.
Kudos to set / costume desing.
Acting? well, most was good...rather odd casting tho, except for Mr evans. Glorious voice has he. EASILY HEARD!

Wow, some insane person really has it for Daniel Bruhl. He was very good in this role.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 27, 2018 2:25 PM |
Hell I could not understand him talking either, think its more than one person.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 27, 2018 11:24 PM |
Meh to the series, especially Evans. Loved the book, Bruhl, Douglas Smith and his ass. And viva boy whores!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 27, 2018 11:30 PM |
Too much whispering. I wanted to get that poor girl a CPAP machine.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 27, 2018 11:55 PM |
I wanted to put one of those dental mouth stretchers in his mouth so he could enunciate better .... maybe he need more coffee to energy up his vocals.

The photo shows that the young men who worked there were both older and more masculine than depicted.

Did the real Paresis Hall just offer boys? I ask because Caleb Carr has a creepy interest in young teens, he's perfectly capable of making something like that up.
And Bruhl was totally lost and floundering as Kreizler, and I say that as someone whose liked him in everything else I've seen him in. He was nearly brilliant as the nerdy weirdo race car driver in "Rush", but he had no clue what to do with his role as the nerdy weirdo alienist.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 29, 2018 5:22 PM |
That's weird because i really loved Bruhl in this role. He was amazingly disturbed.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 1, 2018 1:34 PM |
There was a rumour that book 3 was supposed to be told from Sara's point of view, which would be perfect, as she had a lot of cases.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 6, 2018 12:39 AM |
I'd watch another season of this show. Ten episodes was a perfect length I thought. It didn't drag on and on.
Did it get decent ratings overall?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 6, 2018 2:05 AM |
R21 Maybe it's because Evans spent so many years doing theatre. He'd have learned to enunciate clearly no matter what type of voice he was using so people could hear "in the back". For some reason I only just got around to listening to him singing from some of the musicals he did, his singing voice was beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 6, 2018 3:09 AM |
I thought Bruhl was perfect for this role. The man was abused as a child and is emotionally closed off.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 6, 2018 3:13 AM |
That pic is NOT of paresis hall boys
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 7, 2018 1:41 AM |
Daniel Bruh was pretty bad: He just comes across as stilted and bland instead of interesting and weird. Dakota Fanning has a face like a pan of milk, but she is likable as an actress.
I was a little surprised that Sean Young had a recurring role on the show, even if it was small. I'd have been surprised to even see her in a two minute guest spot at this point in her career. How'd she manage to book a recurring role (even if it was small)?

Doubt that photo is of Paresis Hall. Wouldn't pubescent boy whores be wearing make up and dressed in crinoline. These boys are clearly worker apprentices holding wrenches, trowels, brushes not a dildo in sight. Fail OP.
