I know that Sophia was lying and way too old, but still?
Why did Dorothy ask if the rabbit died laughing when Sophia said she was pregnant?

It used to be in the old days that people believed that rabbits could be used to predict if someone would bear a child.

Years ago, doctors would inject a woman's urine into a young female rabbit. If, days later, the rabbit's ovaries showed signs of maturation (due to the woman's pregnancy hormones), it indicated the woman was pregnant. In order to examine the rabbit's ovaries, the rabbits were killed.
All of the rabbits died, as they were sacrificed to examine their ovaries, but the the myth grew that only rabbits injected with the pregnant woman's urine died. "The rabbit died" is a joke for "she was pregnant".

Rent that Fatal Attraction movie where G plays the transvestite who gets pregnant. It will explain it all.
