On Monday, this year’s Academy Award-nominated talent gathered for the annual Oscar nominees luncheon, which culminated in taking a class photo.
Timmy looks so sad without Armie.

I admit I don't care about awards and don't pay attention to who is nominated or who wins, I posted this hoping someone would say something about Kobe Bryant.
What is he nominated for and why is he sitting front and center? How do they decide where everyone sits/stands?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 6, 2018 3:04 AM |
It was so nice of me to attend.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 6, 2018 3:07 AM |
Kobe is nominated for an animated short film adapted from his poem, “Dear Basketball.” I don’t know why he’s front and center, though. It’s probably just that he’s really tall.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 6, 2018 3:08 AM |
he's there so the cunt, Jada, won't bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 6, 2018 3:09 AM |
R1, Sad that his little bird neck can't hold up that big pumpkin of a head.
Did anyone spot the cardboard cutout back near Meryl?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 6, 2018 3:24 AM |
It’s JR and his cut out of Agnes Varda.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 6, 2018 3:26 AM |
And for those who are wondering what JR stands for, that is how he’s credited in films.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 6, 2018 3:32 AM |
Luca is next to Spielberg. Saorise Ronan is dressed for clubbing, not a luncheon. Whoever is dressing that girl seems to really hate her.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 6, 2018 3:32 AM |
When DL fave Timmy, Meryl and Laura Dern take a selfie.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 6, 2018 3:34 AM |
I know she won't win, but it's kind of cool seeing Mary J. Blige there.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 6, 2018 3:38 AM |
She could always win for Best Song, R11, even though she has no chance at beating Allison Janney.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 6, 2018 3:41 AM |
Like R4 said, he is nominated for his animated short film, "Dear Basketball," which he wrote and starred in. Also, the order seems to be totally random, although it does appear that acting/directing nominees have been relegated to the back and the technical nominees to the front. Most noticeable to me is the fact that the nominees are still very white. I can literally count the POC nominees. It's about 15 in total, and no that's not counting just the black nominees. But there may be a few more white-passing Latinos.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 6, 2018 3:41 AM |
Who the hell is that person two over from Meryl to the right of the photo. That person looks (badly) photoshopped in.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 6, 2018 3:44 AM |
R13 The funny thing is this is probably the most diverse Class Picture they've ever taken. There's a lot more woman than usual. Go back 10 or 15 years and it's 95% white guys.
Yeah, the order is totally random. Why would you not put Allison Janney on the top row?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 6, 2018 3:45 AM |
Who is that idiot in the sweat shirt standing next to me?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 6, 2018 3:47 AM |
R14 That's a cutout of Agnes Varda.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 6, 2018 3:49 AM |
So few "Would Do"s scattered amongst all those "Wouldn't Do"s.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 6, 2018 3:49 AM |
R6 & R14 It's Agnes Varda, a French director, nominated for her documentary "Faces Places."
R9 Yes, that's not exactly appropriate luncheon attire.
R12 I'm hoping she does. It will most likely be the only win for Mudbound. But, I'm sure the award will go to either "CoCo" or the two gays from "The Greatest Showman."
R15 No, I think 2017 might have been the most diverse.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 6, 2018 3:50 AM |
No Denzel? Which other acting nominees weren't there?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 6, 2018 3:52 AM |
R20 - Daniel Day-Lewis, Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Plummer, and Lesley Manville.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 6, 2018 3:54 AM |
Denzel is rehearsing The Iceman Cometh for Broadway. (excuse me, but I must insert my Michael Dorsey/Tootsie joke here again) That was my part!!!!!
Laurie Metcalf is rehearsing in NY too but she flew in. Here's hoping she takes down Janney.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 6, 2018 3:57 AM |
Thank you, r17. I thought that was a ghost!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 6, 2018 3:57 AM |
all molesters. Every damn one of them.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 6, 2018 3:58 AM |
Is Timotay even there? Or is he too short to be seen in the photo?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 6, 2018 3:59 AM |
Probably because it’s a huge networking event and Metcalf is still in the running for the award, whereas Denzel doesn’t have a hope in hell of winning, R22.
R25, he’s fourth to the right of the Oscar statue’s head. His suit is green.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 6, 2018 4:01 AM |
Meryl wore white. Racist bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 6, 2018 4:02 AM |
Who is the hottie standing behind Kumail Nanjiani?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 6, 2018 4:06 AM |
R25 You do realize Timmy is 5' 11, right?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 6, 2018 4:07 AM |
Who is that woman turning her back to Jordan Peele?! RACIST!!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 6, 2018 4:10 AM |
WHY IS KOBE THERE? DO THEY NOT KNOW HIS HISTORY?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 6, 2018 4:10 AM |
The year Neil Patrick Harris hosted the Oscars, he sat in on the group shot. Apparently, it pissed a lot of people off.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 6, 2018 4:11 AM |
Timmy and Seahorse both have eating disorders. They look sickly and fug
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 6, 2018 4:12 AM |
Frances McDormand really doesn't care if she wins or not does she? I wonder what Satcheen Little Feather is doing Oscar night.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 6, 2018 4:14 AM |
[quote]Which other acting nominees weren't there?
Manville is doing a play in the West End, and Woody is shooting a movie. DDL is promoting Phantom Thread in Europe. No reason given for Plummer- other than age- or Frances.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 6, 2018 4:15 AM |
Frances will be the surprise loser
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 6, 2018 4:17 AM |
R32, the middle aged woman on the bottom left striking a pose is the best part of that photo.
R35, Frances McDormand’s whole shtick is that she’s too cool for this stuff, so of course she didn’t show. And she’ll probably win, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they give it to Ronan. Middle aged actresses seemingly always lose second Oscars to starlets.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 6, 2018 4:20 AM |
Fran is better off not showing up and campaigning; it'd probably be counterproductive.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 6, 2018 4:21 AM |
Streep got the most applause of best actress nominees - just sayin
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 6, 2018 4:23 AM |
Frances McDormand molested me. Vote Streep.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 6, 2018 4:24 AM |
The most famous person there got the most applause? Yeah, that means she’s winning, R39.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 6, 2018 4:27 AM |
[quote]Frances McDormand’s whole shtick is that she’s too cool for this stuff, so of course she didn’t show.
I know she doesn’t campaign. The group of actors not attending was released over the weekend; her name wasn’t on it so her no-show was a bit of a surprise.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 6, 2018 4:30 AM |
It was so dear of Glenn to show up to serve our salads.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 6, 2018 4:30 AM |
Who is that handsome guy sitting like a girl on the front row to the left of Mahershala Ali?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 6, 2018 4:31 AM |
NPH is too much - what an entitled prick
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 6, 2018 4:31 AM |
Frances forgot to put her smock in the dryer so she didn't have anything to wear.

[quote]the two gays from "The Greatest Showman."
Excuse me?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 6, 2018 4:32 AM |
A month ago they were wearing their black dresses and Times Up pins, this month they take a photo with a basketball player accused of rape and put him front and center.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 6, 2018 4:34 AM |
Don’t be a wet blanket - it’s their special day to have a tossed salad
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 6, 2018 4:40 AM |
Accused R48 and the case was dismissed. The accuser (who had multiple men’s semen in her underpants) refused to testify. So is your point that Bryant should forever be publicly shunned?

To answer R28, the guy behind Nanjiani is Anthony Leo, nominated for producing the Best Animated Feature nominee “The Breadwinner.”

Jason Blum is kinda hot. And probably insanely rich given how profitable his films are.

R58, the 33rd nominee luncheon was in 2014, but I’m not sure if they’ve taken pics for every ceremony. I’d love to see that pic if it exists for the first one, since it would be the “Ordinary People” vs. “Raging Bull” year.

R66, I just looked up the movies that nominated that year...
Shakespeare In Love, Saving Private Ryan, Elizabeth, The Truman Show, Gods and Monsters, Life is Beautiful, The Thin Red Line, The Prince of Egypt.
Damn right the movies were better. And I actually watched most of the movies nominated.
