R27 There's something distasteful to me whenever I see other younger people barely start to understand that the world continues to not work like their sensibilities desire. And its not just an aging thing (I'm approaching 30); I felt this in my 20s too. Yes gays/bis/allies/whatever - most of the world ranges from disdain to disgust towards gay people. Really. The current year changes nothing in that. Now stop the faux shock and get to work making it better, whether in the small and simple or big and impactful ways.

r21, out of curiosity, why are you only dating men? As you stated, you are clearly interested in women. And there are straight and bi women who will, or even prefer, to date bisexual men. Just curious why you are limiting your dating pool?

R47 He never had much of a singing voice, which is why he was put in Union J in the first place (he auditioned alone). All the autotune in the world can't hide that. I'm afraid singing is not the right career choice for him.

[quote]Perhaps because he's only romantically attracted to men?
r 49, thanks for the response. I have heard comments like this from bisexuals before: being sexually attracted to both but only romantically attracted to one sex. Would you, or someone else, be able to explain this because I am confused by it.
To me, falling romantically in love with someone is a combination of sexual attraction and attraction to their personality. But the personality portion that one falls in love with is completely independent of sex. How well you get on with someone has nothing to do with their sex, it just has to do with how well you two personalities mesh.
As a gay guy, I can fall in love with a woman's personality. As a result, we will become great friends. But that 's the extent of it because I don't feel a sexual attraction to her. A part of the equation is missing.
But a bisexual man has no such barrier to their sexual attraction, so how can they be romantically attracted to only one sex? Take the same scenario, a bisexual man like r47 meets a woman that he is sexually attracted to ,and then also discovers that she has a personality he clicks with, how exactly could her sex affect whether or not he falls romantically in love with her? I don't get it.

The gay parts of the interview:
[Quote]I was in a band where I knew I was gay before I went in, I’ve known for a very long time. I’ve always been terrified of it, and it’s something I’ve been scared of telling my mum and everyone else. But because I’m so true to myself I couldn’t hide it, and it got to a point where people started seeing me kissing boys on nights out, and I was like: “I can’t hide this”. And not only do I not want to, I just physically can’t. It’s not fair. Why should I torture myself? For me, telling people and letting people know was scary, but when I went on X Factor, that was when all of a sudden I realised I wouldn’t just need to tell my mum, I had to tell everybody at the same time. I was already nervous about what people’s opinions would be, but I had to just strip that back, be proud of myself and confident in who I am.
[Quote]It made things a little bit more confusing because of the way I came out. I didn’t say I was gay, I didn’t say I was bi - I just said; “I’ve been with girls and I’ve been with boys”. I was still working it out. I’m probably working it out less now than what I was then, but at the time I was still scared of showing who I was. The hard thing for me was dealing with the labels that the press put on me. Like: “George Shelley comes out as gay” and “George Shelley comes out as bi”. They were all different - nobody had the straight story, and nobody got the message in the video of; “I’m just me, can you all just stop”. The reason I did it was that I saw people online questioning my sexuality and asking me about it. I also heard people saying Union Gay and I was scared. I didn’t want to be Union Gay - this was my boyband, these were my mates - we were enjoying it and loved life, and I thought that it for some reason would be detrimental to the band’s career. Not because what people were saying, but also my own paranoia and own torment - that negative chatter that’s in your head. It’s there constantly and that’s where mental health is a slippery slope, 'cause if you start listening too much and paying attention to the negative chatter, it can completely take over your headspace. That’s when it gets bad.
[Quote]I moved from the small town of Clevedon to London to being in a band with the first gay person I basically ever met. There was one person in my town that was gay - that’s how small Clevedon is, everybody knew the gay guy. If I didn’t go to London, would I still be scared? So I’m really thankful for the journey I’ve been on.

R94 I don't think that's why he now identifies as gay though. He himself said he was pressured to come out. He probably came out as bi so he could still keep part of his fanbase, since he was still in a boyband at that time. He himself said in the documentary that he was living a double life. I think he's known he was gay the entire time, he just said bi/no labels because of the pressure. Would be interesting to read this new interview though, he probably talks about it more in-depth there, but I can't access it since it's behind a paywall.

R11 Yeah I used to get mad at the stereotype (bisexual since 13, never changed), but it's often true. The funny thing is that real bi guys rarely come out as bi because we know how much shit we get for that from both straights and gays. It's mostly gay guys who somehow think bi life is easier.
R94 However if a boy says he is gay no girl will fuck him anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | October 27, 2018 6:32 PM |
R56 A lot of it is being attracted to a certain character type that is connected to gender stereotypes. For example a bi guy who likes "dudebro" guys for relationships might have a hard time meeting a woman who is like that. Not because women can't be like that but because it's less likely for a woman to have such a personality. Others like the traditional male-female dynamic and a feminine partner so they are attracted to men sexually but in a relationship they want that old pattern which isn't likely to happen even with a very femmy dude. ]
I actually met quite a few bi guys who liked women sexually but not really on the relationship level. It's not fair to say women as if women is a single entity but I guess you know what I mean? They preferred to date men because they clicked better, it would take an unusual woman to click in a similar way.
Also, sexuality involves certain behaviors too. For example, a lot of women, once again not all of them but many, are sexually submissive. They like to just lie there and have things done to them. If you also have this bottom-like sexual preference (not speaking about anal per se, but in general), it might be difficult to click with women sexually even if pussy seems cool. You try it with girls, you like their bodies, but they are still kinda disappointing.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | October 27, 2018 6:53 PM |
R94 Yes they are. I stopped blaming them though exactly because of the guys like George. What would you feel if you started dating a bi guy and then he would dump you saying "I'm actually straight, so our relationship was fake all along, by the way I never enjoyed having sex with you"? Girls are afraid that the guy who claims to be bi will turn out to be gay later.
There is a way around it though, but most women are too biphobic and afraid of competition. Date a guy who's been with men openly before you. Not someone half closeted and unsure of where he leans.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | October 27, 2018 7:12 PM |
r72 The boy overthinks things but there was one part of that stream of consciousness interview that alarmed/worried me. He seems to think that his parents divorcing when he was young made him gay and I would have thought that his psychiatrist would have explained to him that science has pretty much ruled out all those folk theories about childhood trauma causing homosexuality. One would have thought that those issues would have been confronted and resolved in the early stages of analysis but if he is mentioning it as a credulous explanation in a magazine interview, then I am worried about the competence of his shrink. It only reinforces internalized homophobia to go on these wild goose chases in your past (especially early childhood) to search for some event or trauma as the key to explaining your sexuality. Not even the Freudians believe that absent father/ smothering mother nonsense any longer.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | October 30, 2018 7:41 PM |
R121 I agree. It's worrying if he really thinks that. Seems like he still isn't completely comfortable with his sexuality, otherwise he wouldn't blame it on his parents' divorce. I also notcied in the documentary that he had an issue with saying the word gay. He always paused for a moment when he talked about being gay. It reminds me of Cameron on Big Brother. He couldn't say the word gay even though he knew he was gay. He had to ask his bff in the house if he could ask him if he was gay, he said yes and that's how he came out to his housemates.

I wish he was more active on social media. I get that he's been through a lot and taking a break from sm can be healthy, however connecting with fans is so important in the business he's in. If he wants to continue his music career then he should be better at promoting himself. I swear today that's half of the work. Oh well, hopefully he will be more active if/when he puts out new music. I guess until then we just have to be patient.

Am I correct that no one else has recognized what a superb surname HOLEHOUSE is for many a gay man? Is it, in fact, his real surname? Almost too apt to be true.

Has anyone read George's interview with Ian McKellen in Gay Times? I know part of it is available online. I'm just curious if anyone has read the whole thing and could maybe give a summary.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | November 12, 2018 11:05 AM |
George Shelley and Aaron Rhodes starting following each other. That's interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | November 12, 2018 3:49 PM |
Aaron Rhodes was in London. Wonder if he met George at a gay bar there and they started following each other on Instagram.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | November 14, 2018 7:34 AM |
Apparently he will compete in Celebrity Painting Challenge on BBC next year.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | December 1, 2018 9:54 PM |
It's been two months since the last time he was active on social media. On the one hand I admire him for taking a step back. Sometimes it can be healthy. I also know his late sister's birthday is coming up, so taking a break to be with family and heal is probably a good idea. However, business wise this is terrible. He's killing what's left of his career.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | December 8, 2018 10:32 PM |
The whole interview with Ian McKellen is now online.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | December 28, 2018 4:05 PM |
He finally posted something after being MIA for months.

R41 Henrietta here, why are you trying to out me?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | January 17, 2019 6:26 AM |
Has George gained weight? His face looks a lot fuller in these pics.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | January 17, 2019 9:49 PM |
Who? Is he another YouTube/social media/Instaho star?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 27, 2019 7:58 PM |
He's beauty. Can he act at all?
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 28, 2019 9:11 PM |
R145 I don't know, he's a musician, not really an actor.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 31, 2019 9:31 AM |
He will be on Celebrity Painting Challenge April 4th.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 31, 2019 9:33 AM |
most celebs who come out as bi are actually gay but it's more acceptable to be bi and it's better for career and also some who come out as gay continue the bearding bs look at Jolie, Heard etc
by Anonymous | reply 149 | March 31, 2019 9:45 AM |
R149 Yup, and he says he used bi as a stepping stone, like thousands of gays have done before him.

Just because gay men are afraid to be their authentic selves doesn't mean that bisexuality is imaginary.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | April 1, 2019 12:13 AM |
R153 No one said that
by Anonymous | reply 154 | April 1, 2019 12:31 AM |
R153 No it's not but many celebs lie about being bisexual.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | April 1, 2019 12:34 AM |
quote from Anna Paquin
“I’m sure for some people saying they’re bisexual feels less scary than making a statement that they’re gay,” Paquin — who is married to her “True Blood” co-star Stephen Moyer — tells Zooey magazine in a new interview. “For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision.”
She explained it very well.

This kid needs to be groomed and photographed VERY CAREFULLY because he's the cute the way Jack Wild used to be cute.
And we know what a tragedy he turned into!!
by Anonymous | reply 157 | April 1, 2019 12:41 AM |
R21 sorry to disappoint you but most women, including bi women will not want to be near bi men.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | April 4, 2019 5:57 PM |
I’ve got one BBC for him right here.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | April 4, 2019 11:50 PM |
r156 I find it difficult to take seriously all these earnest lectures from women in heterosexual relationships about being bisexual. I don't doubt the sincerity but it comes across as awfully convenient. Where are all the bisexuals in same sex relationships? Oh right - over 90% of them end up functionally straight but they are the real oppressed ones...Give me a fucking break.

I saw it on the telly last night and thought, where have I seen that face before? Here on the DL of course!
I like his coming out video.

This pic is very "80s gay". Maybe that's his thing.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | April 11, 2019 9:27 AM |
Oh, I see - the set up is '90s "heartthrob" - but that pic looks very 80s to me.

R167 This George is going for the "80s gay" look because he has the same noseless look as Big George's Marilyn.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | April 19, 2019 9:34 AM |
I watched a bit of that programme yesterday. I hadn't really seen him before. My God, he's lovely, isn't he? Just adorable. I hope he's more content these days. He deserves to be x

by Anonymous | reply 194 | December 17, 2021 7:47 AM |
R194 He is sorta famous. He was once part of a boyband, but quit. Then he was on Capital FM Breakfast Show before he was let go (they wanted someone new to lead the show). That was a few years ago. Since then he deleted his Insta and became very private. He's now back. Apparently as a solo artist with a new song.

It's good to see George supporting Jaymi. I believe he was a mentor to George when he was figuring out his sexuality. They've been close ever since.

by Anonymous | reply 197 | February 15, 2022 9:23 AM |
He was in a UK boy band I never heard. Probably because I'm American and not a teen girl. I only know him because he's featured on so many gay websites talking about his coming out journey and mother's death. He seems damaged but sweet. I like him way better than gay baiter Harry Styles.

Union J, that's a blast from the past. I looked them up to remind me and their appearance on X Factor triggered a memory of Christopher Maloney, the closeted scouser who shook like a shitting dog sat on a washing machine on full spin.
Josh Cuthbert was always the hot one in Union J
by Anonymous | reply 200 | February 15, 2022 10:15 AM |

R21 You are bi and attracted to women, but only date guys. If this isn't the biggest bullshit I heard on DL it is in top 10 certainly.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | February 19, 2022 11:12 AM |
They're all gay. All these people who say they are nonbinary, fluid or they don't like labels...are gay. They're gay, and they waste so much time denying it until they can't deny it any longer.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | February 19, 2022 11:18 AM |
I hate that obviously gay queens in denial keep claiming bisexuality until they eventually accept their gaiety. It defeats the existence of us genuine bisexuals

by Anonymous | reply 213 | February 19, 2022 1:17 PM |
