What are the pros and cons of going to a bathhouse/sauna/sex club?

Davey Wavey is a dingleberry on the asshole of gay culture. Bath houses have been, and remain, extremely important social venues for gay men across the country.

Nobody is talking about the topic proposed by the title of this thread.

The pros:

Nearly everybody is there for sex. If sex is your goal, you will be able to get your hands on something.

All the goods are on display. Patrons usually wear only a towel.

Everybody is gay. You are with your own kind. Every flavor of gay is typically available in a bathhouse these days. There are too few bathhouses in most of the US for them to become segregated.

In this somewhat egalitarian social atmosphere, it is even possible that people might befriend you, inside or outside the bath house. Apps have no power here. People who go to bath houses usually prefer human interaction of some sort.

The cons:

It is dark. You may not be able to see well.

It might be dirty. Wear flip flops. Change your towel occasionally. Tip the towel man.

If you are an introvert, being on display in a towel is unnerving. OTOH, this is a good way to lessen your introversion.

You might get harassed by guys you're not into, forcing you to lessen your introversion even more.

There will be people doing drugs. (You might see this as a plus, but I don't.)

Some bathhouses are very luxurious and I go just for the amenities. Flex in LA has a heated outdoor pool. I like floating on my back looking at the stars. They don't have a hot tub anymore and that sucks but it's still a fun place. Some of the Korean bathhouses that gay people frequent have cold pools and mist rooms and I love both. You're not supposed to have sex there but people do.

We wouldn't know, we have never been to a bathhouse.
