Worked with her years ago. She was a hoot and lots of fun.

She does look nice.
Her trying to get Jack Nicholson hard and then blow him scene in Carnal Knowlage is creepy as hell. Then you find out Jack and her are role paying and it gets even creepier.

She talked about what a diffult shoot it was just for her small part on that movie.
It kind of says a lot that Mike Nichols had to band pot from the set. I bit him and Garfunkel we’re still sniffing and smoking through the whole thing with Candy Bergen. Wasn’t Torpedo Tits, I mean Ann Margaret very married and square?

She was terrible in that Golden Girls episode - Empty Nest. What a cunt!

I bet she'll be first in line begging to be in the Speelburg remake of West Side Story.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 29, 2018 10:01 PM |
Her version of Empty Nest Is a terrible episode of Golden girls. I remember when lifetime ran the show they didn’t play that much but since other networks have picked it up in syndication not only do they butcher it by editing for time they also play this episode when they’re going in order. They know fans don’t want to see it.

She stated that Hollywood often had her playing an Indian woman simple because her skin was a little darker.

Kenneth Tynan apparently had a story or two about her (pasted from the "Diaries of Kenneth Tynan" thread):
"Rita Moreno on the Merv Griffin show - bristling with energy at forty-five - my mind and prick go back to 1964, when she was the last woman to make me cry. (Much as we adored each other, there was too much spanking for her to take, and too many career chances in America.) Rita, whose anus I licked in Bnstol, London and Newcastle (where we flew to see Larry's pre-London tour of Othello); whose firm, tawny bottom I joyfully smacked; who sucked me off by daylight in a train as it passed through Royal Oak station, a minute away from arrival at Haddington."

by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 30, 2018 12:36 AM |
Natalie Wood's time on the set during West Side Story was not her finest hour. Marni Nixon was more diplomatic in interviews, sometimes done alongside Rita Moreno, but the two of them were more or less on the same page: Natalie Wood was out of her element in a musical, miscast as Puerto Rican, and upset that her singing voice would not be used though it was painfully obvious she was incapable.
Most people agree that Natalie Wood was a very kind person. But Rita Moreno isn't obligated to like her, and when she stated, "I'm not a fan," she's being up front with her experience on the set.

R38 I agree that 'Natalie Wood was out of her element in a musical, miscast as Puerto Rican'.
It seems Tab Hunter was considered at some point for the hero. He would have been dreamy (I would be gushing tears when he was shot)

Nixon was a major cunt. She once said to Warner " do you realize I dubbed all these women VOICES"and he snapped back" do YOU realize they dubbed your FACE!". Moreno and her hated Nat for her beauty and star quality. Moreno didn't lift a finger to help her with the accent, the dancing or anything. She made her feel out of her element. She was last minute casting and was behind in training. But she made WWS the hit that it became. Put it in your pipe and smoke it Moreno. More like moron-ho
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 30, 2018 12:58 AM |
She used to get annoyed when she was lumped in with other female EGOT winners. Rita would have remind them that she was the first lady to have won all four singularly and in competitive categories.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 30, 2018 1:11 AM |
I met her when her husband was still alive. I told her I had been a movie theater manager of a multiplex and we played "The Four Seasons" and every time the staff was gone, they were in that theater. Who would have thought 16 years would be so interested in it. She told me that was the movie she and her husband always watched on Christmas Eve.

Her name is Rita, not Chita.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 30, 2018 4:35 AM |
Natalie Wood wasn't exactly all sunshine and light on the set either. Apparently she rarely spoke to many of her colleagues because she was in such a snit about Warren Beatty not being cast-her then 'main squeeze'. I suspect that's a big part of why Rita "is not a fan".
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 30, 2018 4:45 AM |
She was terrified, all these trained broadway singers and dancers out to cut her throat. Moreno leading them. I once read an interview of the hot stocky italian looking jet. He said he felt sorry for Natalie who obviously felt completely isolated and worked her ass off to catch up. They were laughing at her WHILE she was rehearsing. Like in her face. Dancers are the worst cunts. He offered Natalie help, and they rehearsed every night, after her day's work. She was so grateful. He was the only one to be nice to her since her casting. Said she was lovely and tried very hard. Would you think that Moreno would have one kind word, fifty years on ? No. " not a fan'. Cunt
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 30, 2018 8:02 AM |
Rita Moreno was not a trained dancer. She had to work very hard on the dancing in that film. She said she would not have been able to do those dances straight through like you would have to do in the stage show.

Hey, asshole R53, she danced but was not trained like a Broadway dancer would be. She didn't have the strength or the stamina to dance Anita onstage. She may have said she felt ugly but you are ugly to your core.

I love Rita. Natalie was only in that movie because she was a star. But unlike Ms. Kerr who worked very closely with Miss Nixon, Natalie's childish behavior damned her. It is easy to forgot her in that film because it is so much greater than her. Natalie was a good actress, but very immature when she wanted to be. Her performance is worst than Hepburn's in " My Fair Lady" another case of star quality ruling over talent!

Rita Moreno is sharp and superb. Her biography is fascinating. That she attained her level of success decades ago as a Puerto Rican performer is incredible, and that she is still working on the far side of eighty is inspirational.

I wish she hadn't done that final scene in Carnal. Everytime now I have that very creepy sleazy depressing scene in my head when I see her.
Like she hadn't done a film since WSS and she would do anything for a bit part in an A picture. Even her husband didn't want her to do it.
And Nicholson is so detestable in that it's like she's trying to get Hitler up and suck him off.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 31, 2018 10:58 AM |
^ Yet look at the impression that she left. I agree it's unpleasant, but it's intense because she took it to the wall.
Her character and Ann-Margret's were like nothing they had ever played before.
I used to think that the film was deeply misogynist because of these two characters, but now, I think both of them reveal the limitations and emptiness of the Jack Nicholson character.

Rita Moreno was pissed she was nominated in the Tony in the supporting category for "The Ritz" and mentions it in her acceptance speech. She was right, she was the lead but the Tonys have screwed up many times. Dick Van Dyke won Supporting for "Bye Bye Birdie" and Tammy Grimes won Supporting for "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" when they were both clearly leads and Tammy was even the title character.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 31, 2018 4:55 PM |
The only person who ever disliked Natalie. And Natalie was not a terror on the set. She knew they choose her for being a star and she took extra dance and speech lessons to get the accent. The rest of the cast and dancers who were unhappy she got the role saw how hard she was working and they all grew to like her. Except Rita, who was jealous. That was the way it was back then. Both Mary Martin and even Julie Andrew's missed out on their Broadway roles. And, seriously, she was the only person who disliked Natalie.

After appearing on Oz, she did an intimate "my life in song" show at a local cabaret. It was jazzy and enjoyable, and made me think about how I missed performing.
When it was my turn in the autographs line, I shook her hand and said, "Thanks very much, that was a tight set." She looked me right in the eye and said, "Did you say tight? Nobody says tight but a musician." She knew she was onto something and zeroed in with, "You [italic]are[/italic] a musician, aren't you?"

I've loved her since I was a little boy when she did the Electric Company. She was genuinely hysterically funny as the director with the riding crop always hitting the cue card Morgan Freeman was holding.
Sorry, but Natalie Wood was NOT at her best during the making of West Side Story. She was terrible to Richard Beymer, because she thought he was miscast, and she'd wanted Warren Beatty. She made it such a traumatic experience for Beymer that he refuses to speak of the movie, or partake in reunions.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | February 1, 2018 7:12 AM |
I don't know. She is portrayed as a horny energetic flashy Jerome Robbins dancer costumed by Irene Sharraff which is not a bad thing to be when you want to be in show business.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | February 1, 2018 9:37 AM |
The late Linda Dangcil was a friend and she was one of the Shark girls. According to her, there was no unhappiness about any of the casting. The dancers were happy to be in the movie and Robbins segregated them according to gang. Both Beymer and Wood were separated from everyone else, which probably contributed to the belief that the experience was unhappy. Moreno was very happily in the gypsy group and in fact, created Googie Gomez for them. She said that for their next job, they'll do a bus and truck tour of Gypsy and voila.

In about 6th grade I became obsessed with Guiness Book of World Records--that's how I learned she had all these other roles and was what we now call an EGOT.
She looks amazing, and is great on that One Day at a Time reboot.

Jerome Robbins was notorious for creating Mean Girls tension in all of his companies so I'd lay any blame of animosity between Natalie and Rita at his Capezios.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | March 5, 2018 1:06 PM |
I love Rita and when I saw her in person about three years ago at a special screening on WSS, she looked amazing. She gave a talk about her experience with WSS, and it was all positive, but funny, and she talked about her life and told stories from her autobiography. She was just a delight. But I must say that while I'm very impressed she was able to wear her 1962 dress, and she looked great last night, I do think the neckline, the top of the dress in 1962 would have been a better choice than the top she chose.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 5, 2018 2:36 PM |
Totaly agree, r119! The original bodice to that dress was prettier and would have been so much more flattering.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | March 5, 2018 3:49 PM |
I'm not sure the original bodice would have been more flattering. Even though she is in great shape today it's not the same shape was in when she first wore the dress. She's not as slander as she was. The black hair and black bodice framing her face isn't a look she could pull off today. Plus I think if at her age you can pull off a strapless gown I say go for it.
