People with those type of eyes always scared me. As a toddler I assumed they were wooden dolls. Just something about the eyes made me see them as different from normal people. Those type of eyes always startled me when young. Nothing changed as I aged, especially in high school and beyond. Eyes like that are nothing but bad news. Can't believe my younger self was so savvy. Guy's eyes give me the creeps. Most suicide cases always had the same vacant look.

He was 6'8 or something like that and very hot body for being so tall...plus that face - I am guessing he had a foot long man slammer. He od'ed on Exstacy and Coke - not a good combo - someone said he took to much GHB one day and had to be carried off the dance floor.

NO R37 you are correct no one forced him, but the Circuit Party culture promotes a cultural norm that drugs is normal and enhances life. When just the opposite is true. The sad thing all the parties , fucking will continue on that ship with no thought to what happened. Step over over the dead body on the dance floor and carry on.

What a load of bullshit. People take drugs to have fun and let loose. Why are people convinced they need to take drugs to have fun and let loose? Because they listen to judgemental assholes who decide what's considered normal and what not and, as a result, can't allow themselves to have fun and let loose while being sober, because their idea of fun, aka being gay and fabulous, is considered not normal.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 24, 2018 10:39 PM |
R39 why don't you attend his memorial service then and tell that to his parents, siblings, and friends? I am sure they will welcome you with open arms and agree with your assessment. You must live in SF, LA , DC Seattle or NYC. You are a nasty , nasty person too bad you were not on that cruise
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 24, 2018 10:43 PM |
r40, don't hide your own bigot prejudice behind grieving people. It makes you look like the cowardly bigot you are.
The reason people take drugs is, because they feel guilt and shame for being who they are thanks to judgemental assholes who tell them for years and years that they are not normal and they should be ashamed of themselves. And they use alcohol and drugs to escape that mental torment for a little while and feel happy and free (which they could feel all the time WITHOUT DRUGS if they just no longer give a fuck about other people's judgement).

And then he died.

Sorry R41 The real reason people get addicted to drugs is genetic predisposition social pressure and the addictive nature of the substance. You sound like fragile Millennial snow flake

Your delusional and do not know how the addictive process works, primarily is heredity . Mr Taylor likely was not a addict , he was probably offered some Molly/GHB/Meth from someone with a similar moral compass to yours and trusted that person.

Bullshit, except the social pressure which is exactly what I wrote. Everything else is just excuses and conditioning (genetic predisposition is conditioning people to believe that they will suffer the same fate as their relatives did so they better expect to notice the described symptoms real soon).

The conditioning is usually done by authority figures people are told to look up to and to trust their judgement. Priests, for example. Sadly this sort of brainwashing still goes on to this day.

The gay cruise company seem to have been pretty successful keeping their name out of the reports so far. Will they be paying serious bucks for this - or has the mainstream media just not caught on?
I’m an eldergay. Pretty mild mannered and vanilla for the most part - dont smoke. Don’t drink much. Never really did recreational drugs. Ate some dope-laced brownies a couple of times (the first time unwittingly!) - and did ecstasy a few times (three times to be precise!) with some work colleagues who were partiers in the late eighties. And occasionally during sex - poppers.
So I’m no expert. I get that.
But I’m so sick of people giving these dumb reasons as to why people take drugs. It’s ludicrous. The primary reason is very simple. They feel awesome!
Seriously - if you like the buzz you get after a couple of glasses of wine - let me assure you that drugs are much, much better! They feel great!
Once you find a drug of choice - the one - or more! - that do mood enhancing things that you like and make you feel amazing - then it’s really hard not to want that experience again. Humans are generally hardwired to want to repeat good experiences. And if you start doing it again too frequently - well - hello addiction!
You can dress it up with fancy pop-psych or excuses about how you were depressed or had a bad childhood or were stressed or whatever (as so many celebrities do who get busted!) - and all those reasons might well play some sort of contribution to doing the deed...
But when it comes down to it - it’s cos using drugs can feel incredible. And you’ll never feel that good again from natural highs. So you’ll more than likely wanna do it again sometime. And if you do it too much - you’re gonna start down that slippery slope.
So please - stop it with all the silly justification and lame rationalisation. It’s like in the effort to scorn and deglamoroze the wicked, evil, nasty drugs (and rightly so I think - seen the damage that can occurs so frequently!) - no one is ever prepared to admit how wonderful one feels while you’re high or wired. It’s seems really dishonest to me and I don’t think we can have a genuine conversation about the subject without admitting that.
For what it’s worth.
Anyway: Feel bad for this poor guy - such a waste. But seen so many like him over the years and it makes you numb after a while. Awful.

by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 25, 2018 5:29 AM |
Deaths on these cruises are pretty common. Atlantis has a great PR team which shifts the focus away from drug fueled orgies to their image of happy, well-toned couples viewing a beautiful vista together.
FYI, I will admit, to their credit Atlantis ads are of actual patrons.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 25, 2018 5:42 AM |
R68 - do you think that Atlantis has a list of buff, model-looking types it comps every cruise to make sure the eye-candy content is kept to a standard? Just that you really wonder how many of them have the means to be there otherwise...? I mean - there’s only so many wealthy sugar-daddies to go around surely?
Unless they’re whores? What’s the policy on commercial sex during these cruises? If it’s allowed - does that mean many of our favourite porn stars are often aboard too?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 25, 2018 6:11 AM |

If you really have to ask that question you don't really get what a world you are living in.
Childhood trauma from being sexually abused, orphans believing they are not worth loving and that's why they were abandoned, parents expecting their kids to follow in their footsteps and cutting them off if they want to be their own person, feeling like failures for not getting the approval from others they so desperately need, pressure to perform and be great at everything, race discrimination, religious upbringing (sex before marriage is shameful!) etc.

I live in the burbs and 99% of ODs are middle class people in their 20s who are described by parents and friends as wonderful people who had everything going for them "until a doctor prescribed pain pills for a minor injury and got my son/daughter addicted! Doctors and pharmaceutical companies killed my child!" The friends of the ODer, while agreeing that the ODer was a great person who was probably going to be a pediatrician (to help sick children!) or a brilliant politician (to help the poor and middle class), privately roll their eyes at the "doctor gave him/her serious pain pills for a minor injury/root canal" excuse.
There's far more partying than shame causing ODs.

I agree with the poster upstream who said that people do drugs because they feel good. They do. I know that, eventually, addicts do drugs just to feel normal, but, initially, If they didn't feel good, people wouldn't do them. I love how they make me feel, crack in particular, which has a ghetto reputation, and I don't know why. It is expensive, and the high is the best ever. I don't do it often, though, to prevent addiction, but, hell, every few months, it is a great high. I do need to stop even doing it casually, though, and I will. At some point, you stop craving that feeling.

I watched Storm Chasers when it aired, and Joel seemed like the last person in the world I would imagine seeing on the dance floor on a gay cruise. I didn't get any gay vibes watching him on Storm Chasers. Reed Timmer seemed like more of a drama queen than Joel. Storm chasers spend their time traveling and staying in small towns in the Bible Belt. Doesn't seem like a very comfortable environment for someone who's gay. I read online that his funeral is going to be at a Baptist church in his hometown of Elk City, Oklahoma. I wonder if he was out to his family and friends. I guess if you're 38, single and not dating girls, it should be obvious. He probably felt trapped in conservative Oklahoma, and the cruise was his chance to escape and be free.

Poor guy. I'd probably od on something too. I feel bad for him. Some guys would feel like a kid in a candy store. I'm wondering how long he had been out. Very sad.

I saw his partner tweet about him dying, and the responses were people asking the cause of death and then twitter cops chastising them for their morbid curiousity. Someone said “We’ll find out when they want us to know.”
“ODd on GHB” was certainly not the answer I was expecting.

Although he had a bit of "gay face" in his most recent photos, he didn't give off a gay vibe when he was on "Storm Chasers." He was the easy-going, lanky boy next door from small-town Oklahoma. He seemed more like the type of guy who would get wasted on cheap beer while watching college basketball and listening to country music than the type who would be doing GHB while dancing to club music and Olivia Newton-John on a gay cruise. I'll bet he struggled reconciling his conservative, religious upbringing in rural Oklahoma with his sexuality. As a tall, handsome, "straight-acting" guy who'd had a hint of TV fame, he was probably very popular with the other guys on the cruise, and they would have given him anything he wanted. Sadly, he took it a step too far.

It is literally impossible to OD on GHB. It is a fucking carbohydrate. If you ingest too much you vomit, you pass out, you don't die. Everyone has GHB in their body. It is a naturally occurring carbohydrate in our bodies. It is popular among muscle marys because you get drunk without consuming calories. I have taken WAY too much G once and ended up in the ICU - only because they could not figure out what was wrong with me. I was unconscious, normal brain function but they could not wake me up. Because I took too much and was in a deep fucking sleep. I was checked out the next day - walked out of the hospital embarrassed but perfectly fine. To take a lethal dose of GHB you would have to force fed it because if you take too much, again your body vomits it out. The worse that can happen is a deep unrousable sleep. Stop demonizing GHB. It is no worse than alcohol.

r146 not sugar coating it -- it was my own dumb mistake but I was never in danger of dying. Ever. I got violently ill, that was my body getting rid of it. This happened in California. The doctor knew I took something but it was untraceable...because it was a carbohydrate...
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 27, 2018 2:22 AM |

r150 autopsy will tell you that - he was carried off the dance floor for taking too much ghb and they left him in his room. They also found coke and ecstasy. I am just telling you as a person who has taken too much GHB and used it before my experience. To give you an idea I accidentally ingested a weeks worth of G (basically I mixed up the bottles). Literally 7x a big dose or about 35 mls. Nothing was administered to me other than being intubated and hooked up to an ekg u ntil i woke up. They tested me for everything but could find no trace of drugs in my system so they assumed I had some sort of siezure. I slowly realized what I did but was not going to tell them because GHB is scheduled and i was in California. They wanted to keep me for a few more days but I refused and checked out. I asked the doctor if I was ever at risk of dying and he told me no, my bp, heartrate, ekg and pulse ox all showed normal. Other than being unable to wake me up which GHB will do to you it puts you in deep rem sleep. I think it is being pushed as the cause of death because all they know is he took too much was falling asleep on the dance floor.

We discussed the whole why so many gays in meteorology too. I personally know at least six other meteorologists who are gay, one very famous in Chicago. r141 is apparently unaware that an overdose of GHB can cause a fatal heart attack. It can also cause respiratory depression, and its effects are amplified when combined with another depressant such as alcohol. Or cocaine. Or heroin. When your lungs and respiratory system are functioning improperly it can lead to death.
You can overdose and die on anything if you ingest enough. Water or sugar come to mind as examples of seemingly innocuous substances that can kill you.

The problem with such events (White Party) and gay cruises is that the patrons "make up for lost time" by throwing themselves into having fun like Asian tourists need to take pictures from every single damn thing (or film everything) so they can relive their vacation trip over and over when they are back home and working for the rest of the year.
People don't think clearly or they overestimate themselves when they go from repressed mode to "party like there's no tomorrow" mode. Drugs are available and there is also a bit of peer pressure happening not wanting to be a "stick in the mud" or still having some "stick up your ass" and being the one wh cannot let loose and have fun like everybody else.
Drugs or cupious amounts of alcohol are not necessary to have fun, but like with steroids in the body building industry, it gets you quicker in the mood you want to be.

This story is sad in so many ways. And it's unfortunate that it will end up reinforcing gay stereotypes when it should be shattering them. From all accounts, Joel was a nice, laid-back guy, and his life should be seen as an example that gays come in all varieties and can be found everywhere, even in small-town Oklahoma. But I imagine that some of Joel's conservative relatives are now thinking to themselves, "He was such a nice boy until he got in with the wrong crowd (read: gay people)." Joel's funeral will be at a Southern Baptist church that probably thinks all gay people are an abomination. And people who didn't know Joel and never saw him on "Storm Chasers" will just assume that he was a drugged-out party boy -- another example of how gays just like to party, have sex and do drugs.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | January 27, 2018 11:07 AM |
Hopefully it won’t make people think that he was a druggie or party boy, but that it will just reinforce how popular and dangerous drugs still are in the world, even amongst otherwise healthy, normal, working professionals. It’s a very sad story. Bless his family.

r163 it has been demonized for a long time by big Pharma. You used to buy it at the vitamin shop. It was considered a supplement. Bodybuilders used it for recovery because it produced a deep rem sleep, the kind where muscle repaired and grew. People liked it because it could give you the same buzz as a couple of drinks but not the same calories as alcohol wore off in a couple of hours and was cheap. GHB is a naturally occurring substance in your body. It is not toxic to the brain or blood. Big Pharma had to demoize it the only way they know how. Blame it on a death. Enter in Samantha Reid. Samantha was a teenager who died mysteriously at a party. She came home from a party went to sleep and died. Toxicology showed nothing. Later *much * the doctors reported finding trace amounts of GHB in her body. Suddenly a story was constructed of her drinking "something" at the party. GHB was blamed for her death and her mother started a crusade against it. She wanted it banned, it killed her baby. Except it didn't. GHB ingested converts to oxygen and water in the body in a couple hours. The time between her "drinking" the mystery drink and coming home was several hours and no one reported her being groggy or passing out, something associated with a large dose of GHB. Big Pharma was all to happy to push the scheduling of it. It was placed in the same catagory as heroin. It is unprecidented to schedule a carb. Oh and guess who turned around and took it and use it as a miracle drug to treat narcolepsy? Xyrem is it's commercial name. Can you take too much of anything? Yes.

r178, because some of us grew up with the belief that being gay is bad and that belief messes some gay people up (I like this, but I am not supposed to like this, because it's bad! What to do?). That internal struggle messes people up. When you believe you are doing something bad (even when it feels right to you) you feel guilty and ashamed and that's when you look for all sorts of self destructive punishments.

I’m sure your heart’s in the right place R175 but honestly, you’re getting kinda’ weird about this. Have any of you even ever tried ghb? Jesus. Ephedra - which is an herb and asprin combined was an over the counter weight loss supplement that helped you burn fat and suppress your appetite. It's banned now because some dumb ass took like 50 of them drank red bull and decided to do cardio for 2 hours then his heart exploded. What was the headline? "Ephedra kills healthy man.." and boom it got banned. Kratom, a plant from the coffee family, is a successful substitute for opiods and can help heroin addicts get off heroin. It is cheap, and natural and guess what starts showing up? Stories of Kratom deaths. These are natural safe remedies that are being controlled and scheduled because of scare tactics like this. GHB overdose kills Storm Chaser.

r186 and what exactly are the effects of GHB on the gay community? It's just like saying 'Vodka OD kills Storm Chaser' I am not being weird about it. It is a suppliment (not a drug) that can help a lot of people but because it is falsely blamed for deaths it is demonized. How many people have died due to drunk drivers or died from lung cancer? Yet you don't see Gin and Cigarettes showing up on the same list as heroin do you?

Of course it IS an option, but if you had watched Joel on "Storm Chasers" or seen his Facebook page (I assume you've done neither) you would realize it is not a likely option. He didn't fit the "gay party boy" mold. It seems far more likely that gay cruises and GHB were new (or relatively new) to him and that he it took it all too far. Yes, he was a 38-year-old man who made some stupid choices and should have known better. And he paid the price with his life. But I'm not sure why you seem so invested in portraying him as someone who liked "getting fucked up, dancing and having orgies." Why do you assume that his behavior on the cruise was typical of his everyday behavior?

by Anonymous | reply 196 | January 29, 2018 4:20 PM |
Actually 2 people died on that cruise, but the other one was very old. Dirk was back on board later that night, so I find the "pneumonia" suspect.
I can kind of understand the outcry against Atlantis. They tell you not to bring drugs but know lots of people do. The ship has a duty to provide medical care, but I'd consider overdosing on drugs you brought from home to be above and beyond.
And if Atlantis suddenly start recognizing that they need "Drug overdose trained" staff, then that opens them up to liability. Its kind of like the old legal metaphor of the drowning baby at the beach: you have no duty to save a drowning baby, so you can sit back and watch without liability, but as soon as you rush into the water and tell someone, "I'll save her," you open yourself up to what happens if you aren't able to. If you give someone the antidote to a drug they are not taking and adverse effects occur, then that becomes YOUR problem. I can see why they would prefer to stay out of this.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | January 29, 2018 8:55 PM |
Atlantis is not providing anyone drugs. It shows an astounding lack of personality responsibility to try to blame other people for your drug use.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | January 29, 2018 8:59 PM |
Atlantis does not provide drugs , but they facilitate an environment were drug use is the norm and encouraged. You think those porn stars pay full price for those tickets ? Think again they are either comped or they pay a reduced fave ( based of course on their "hotness") .
It's appalling how many of you guys look at ODing on GHB as a rite of passage and something to be proud of . An I thought bug chasing was bad .
It's time to look beyond the thin veneer of marketing and call these event out for the harm they cause. Atlantis makes no effort to prevent and even more importantly they do nothing to monitor the crowd and assist people who OD. The leave that up to the "friends" to take care of . Joel Taylor would still have been alive if Atlantis stepped up to the plate and said , yeah we know people are going to do drugs and we have a harm reduction /overdose mitigation plan in place to handle this .

I mean this is a job for them, those instagays gotta promote Atlantis on their social media.

"the Atlantis Cruise was such an amazing experience!" yeah because you did not DIE choking on your vomit alone in your room

[QUOTE] Atlantis does not provide drugs , but they facilitate an environment were drug use is the norm and encouraged. You think those porn stars pay full price for those tickets ?
What's the connection you are making -- that porn stars bring all the drugs on board?

[quote]Of course it IS an option, but if you had watched Joel on "Storm Chasers" or seen his Facebook page (I assume you've done neither) you would realize it is not a likely option. He didn't fit the "gay party boy" mold. It seems far more likely that gay cruises and GHB were new (or relatively new) to him and that he it took it all too far.
If you had seen Storm Chasers or his FB page, you'd probably be surprised to discover he was even on a gay cruise, yet...

I have a few friends who were on the cruise and though we haven’t talked yet, I got an email from one saying how fabulous it was and how much love he has for the gay community. He said it was very diverse with old, young, fat, muscled, skinny, every race. Don’t know if he and his hubby were doing drugs but they had a fabulous time.

R207 how naive are you ? How do think porn stars get through the day ?

From Dylan Handy at R201's link:
[quote] To say this cruise was anything less than spectacular would be an understatement. A huge thanks to making this experience an unforgettable time for us all. The positive vibes and love felt on the boat was something special.
Well, yeah, sure. If you overlook a few deaths scattered through the week . . . .
[quote] To new and old friendships formed, this is just the beginning. I Will cherish these moments with each of you for the rest of my life
Good lord, Mary. Get a grip. Dylan sounds like some high school Becky.

[quote]Atlantis does not provide drugs , but they facilitate an environment were drug use is the norm and encouraged.
[quote]It's time to look beyond the thin veneer of marketing and call these event out for the harm they cause.
If THAT’S the case, so does a goddamn 7-11 parking lot. Do they promote that they allow drug use? Are there designated areas for people to smoke meth?
What happened to personal responsibility? Now businesses have to make sure that grown-ass people don’t overdo it on the illegal narcotics that they sneak in? Increasing the costs of everything?
Are you high?

How come nobody has posted any shirtless pics. Beautiful body.

This ER doc who was on the cruise feels like Atlantis is actually too anti-drugs. They had drug dogs that arrested some people at boarding, and warn that anyone caught with drugs will be detained, arrested and removed. That environment makes people scared to seek help.

He’s not even a board certified doctor- he’s a resident. I would hope there would have been a (more) qualified physician on board
by Anonymous | reply 216 | January 30, 2018 4:35 PM |
Dr Cosban works for the cruise line and of course will make a ridiculous statement about them being "too anti drug" jesus were you fuckers born yesterday ?
by Anonymous | reply 217 | January 30, 2018 4:36 PM |
Travis does not work for Atlantis, he was there as a passenger, not the physician on board.
I don't know what the fuck some of you are talking about. but you obviously didn't read the link.
He isn't defending Atlantis, he is blaming them, he said if they stopped the culture of fear and made it clear people wouldn't get in trouble for coming to them about overdoses Joel might still be alive.

R218 I pay 2k for cruise tickets and I am worried about a "culture of fear " ????? LMAO !!! Whatever

West Hollywood property records indicate that Steven B Krumholz is connected to a business consulting service, Steven Krumholz Consulting and a cruise booking travel agency. Sbk (Steven Barry Krumholz) Travel both located at 3415 Grand View Blvd, Los Angeles, California.
On Facebook, Krumholz is friends with Atlantis Events owner Rick Campbell, perphaps something Campbell is regretting at this point in time. Campbell has been the head of Atlantis Events since 1990

Um where do they keep bodies on the ship?
There'll be an autopsy?

R225 they also use Ketamine in people as a surgery anesthetic.
I have never used it, and do not want to. I have friends who were into going to raves or live music events and they would snort it or inject it into their muscles. The one friend told me how it basically puts you into a whole other reality and it's not like tripping on acid or mushrooms since apparently on Ketamine you forget you are on a drug.

I feel sorry for him, not.
Drugging and fucking on an all gay cruise. And he dies of an overdose of illegal drugs. Not tragic, just stupid.

I am intrigued by the Joel Taylor case. It shows us how anyone can have a double life. I was very sad to hear about television's "Storm Chasers" star passing away in late January 2018 at age 38. He was a handsome, 6' 6", 234 pound man with a smooth beautifully muscled body. He also had the biggest hard cock I have ever seen. It pointed to the ceiling. He was a small town country boy who in all appearances was a right wing conservative Christian from an Oklahoma Baptist family. He is remembered in all comments I've read from family and friends as a classy, kind, and caring person, always willing to help in the community. He was "macho" in demeanor but had a hidden side that was not revealed until his death. He was an amazingly endowed gay man with a very overactive libido that he indulged on cruises and island vacations. . He posted sexy pictures and stats on a gay social media site called Scruff. Instead of chasing storms he spent his last days chasing other gay men on a Caribbean cruise ship, the Harmony of the Seas. This ship was chartered by Atlantis Tours for a gay men's cruise. On the cruise, as one of the tallest men on the ship, he would have been one of the main alpha male tops. I bet there is a group of guys scattered across the country who were on the cruise who hooked up with him and wound up with loose anal sphincters and his DNA still inside them, He probably was exhausted from the round the clock pounding holes and pumping his baby batter. He apparently wanted to be like the Energizer bunny and keep going and going. It was originally thought he died from an overdose of GHB , an anti-sleep medication used in low doses for sexual stamina. It has a Viagra type effect providing lasting erections. As probably the biggest guy on the ship his “weather probe” would have been very much in demand. The final autopsy report revealed it was an overdose of Ecstasy. He must have taken too high a dose and it was too much for his system. He collapsed on the dance floor and was taken back to his cabin by "friends" to sleep it off. It was a permanent sleep. It is a big mistake to leave anyone in that condition alone, which the so-called "friends" did. My condolences to his family.

Joel Taylor's amazing "weather probe". Another one of his Scruff photos showed him in a black spiked mask. He apparently dabbled in S & M. Interestingly enough the Storm Chaser vehicle was named "The Dominator" possibly by Joel. He was a good old country boy when clothed but when the clothes came off and his "flagpole" was raised he was the dominator of whoever he was with. I wonder how many anal canals he stretched to the max!

Storm Chaser Joel Taylor and "The Dominator" vehicle.

R78 So he was closeted. A closet case that thought weather watchers wouldn't accept a homosexual chasing tornadoes.
Fuck him

What a loss. Joel is what I consider alpha male perfection. Amazing body and an amazing monster cock. He sure used both to pleasure many.
