A Datalounge mystery- The New Mickey Mouse Club (1977) and Newsies

It was 1992, and I was new to LA. Never had a gay experience. Never talked about being gay with anyone.

I went to that adult bookstore on Lankershim in North Hollywood. The one that's a bit down from Odyssey Video. This guy caught me eye. Looked about my age (21 or so) but boyish.

I got in his car, and we drove around. I verbalized my gayness for the first time. We fooled around. I went home on cloud 9.

I never saw him again. He'd told me he'd been on the 1977 Mickey Mouse Club, and that he'd been a dancer in Newsies. At the time, I became obsessed with finding him. So much so that I called the director of Newsies, and he called me back say he didn't know who I was talking about!

No cast member of Mickey Mouse Club was also in Newsies. Is it possible that some dancers in Newsies weren't credited?

Not that I would contact him NOW, but I'm very curious to know who he was. It was a big deal at the time.

I think one of the Mouseketeers from the 1970s club died of AIDS.

It couldn't have been this one, could it?

He was lying to you. Mystery solved.

by Anonymousreply 3January 24, 2018 1:20 AM

R2 No. He was a white bred looking dude.

by Anonymousreply 4January 24, 2018 1:21 AM

R3 that could well be. But he did seem to know details about Mickey Mouse Club. I mentioned Blair was in it, and he said "yeah, Lisa's down in Texas now having lots of babies"

The youngest white male Mouseketeer from that club was Todd Turquand, born in 1964. He would have been way older than that at the time [italic]Newsies[/italic] came out.

There was a late 70s New Mickey Mouse Club and another revival starting in 1989. Are you sure he wasn't in the later version? Otherwise I'd check for Newsies dancers who were making the rounds as kid actors in the late 70s. There are a ton of Newsies dancers listed on IMDB. Google only brings up this Tony Lucca who has a Newsies-New Mickey Mouse connection. He dated Keri Russell.

Maybe he lied about his age. He wouldn't be the first or last gay man to do that.

by Anonymousreply 8January 24, 2018 1:30 AM

Holy shit. It was Tony Lucca!! Public records show him having lived about where he told me he lived, and near the bookstore.

The part I didn't say is that he fake numbered me. I know, pathetic of me to look for him then. But, again, it was my first time even talking about being gay to anyone. I had no idea how to proceed. No wonder I was so heartbroken. He was hot.

Wow. Thanks, guys!! Fuck.

Anybody got any shirtless or dick pics?

by Anonymousreply 10January 24, 2018 1:40 AM

Nothing really happened. I was too nervous. I wanted more to happen later, but clearly he was looking for something quick. He was very cool, though.

by Anonymousreply 11January 24, 2018 1:43 AM

I should not have broached this. I'm really sad now. According to the public records, he lived about two blocks from me in North Hollywood. I spent so much time trying to find him. He clearly did not want to be found.

Yet another thing I want to eternal sunshine out of my head.

by Anonymousreply 12January 24, 2018 1:53 AM

WAIT. Not him. Ok, I feel better now.

Just saw a video of him from that era. My guy was a bit more femme.

by Anonymousreply 13January 24, 2018 2:00 AM

I knew Todd Turquand back in the day. He's definitely not gay. There might have been a more recent Mickey Mouse Club that the guy you're looking for was involved with.

by Anonymousreply 14January 24, 2018 2:05 AM

So your guy Tony Lucca was from the late 90s Mickey Mouse Club yet you thought he was from the 1977 Mickey Mouse Club? Did he look THAT old for a 20-something?

by Anonymousreply 15January 24, 2018 2:06 AM

It was 1992. Yeah, I don't think this guy was 28.

I was convinced I found Tony Lucca in public records. He has addresses listed in North Hollywood, and one of them was two blocks from where I lived, an d where the bookstore still is.

However THAT Tony Lucca (who happens to have connections to Mickey Mouse Club and Newsies) was born in 1970. The "famous" one was born in 1976, according to imdb. Funny coincidence, though.

by Anonymousreply 16January 24, 2018 2:43 AM

I fucked that up. 1976 Tony has connections to Newsies and Mickey Mouse Club. 1970 Tony Lucca is the one who lived in noho.

by Anonymousreply 17January 24, 2018 2:46 AM

Anyone seen Lisa Whelchel's ex-husband lately, now that you mentioned it?
