I think I have Celiac Disease
I have all the symptoms, and i did a 23andMe DNA test and it said I have an increased risk for it. I should go to the doctor for tests but I'm embarrassed to tell him I have chronic diarrhea.
Anyone here have this and how do you manage it? I can't imagine a life without bread (gluten)!

OP - For fuck’s sake. The point of a doctor is to help you get better. Stop being a wuss and make an appointment.

Celiac is the new Chronic Fatigues Syndrome so of course the shysty 23 and me test is going to tell everyone they are at risk for it, and did you find out you are part Native American too? Seriously, that's what that stupid test does, just tells everyone how special they are. I have no doubt they own stock in some gluten free food companies.

I feel bad for you, only 23 and you already have cottage cheese thighs.

Well you either have it or you don't. Get tested.

If you truly have it, you would have known long ago. Are you thin and sickly? Do you get stomach cramps when you eat bread? Do you have diarrhea all the time?

I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue disease years ago. It is a real illness, trust me I have had episodes that have been devastating. I am in the process of going through testing for celiac disease. The doctor is 95% sure that I definitely have celiac disease. I have one test left to go. If I am lucky that is what I am dealing with. If not, I don’t even want to think about what the possibilities could be. Bloodwork has shown I am loosing blood. I have had a colonoscopy which was normal. My endoscopy indicated celiac disease. If it isn’t celiac disease they are looking at lymphoma. God forbid.

Is it possible you are a Secret Lesbian, OP?

Tell your doctor, OP! That's what they are for, they have heard it all and chronic diarrhea is something that should be looked at. If you have celiac, you have to go completely 100% gluten free for life, no slacking off. While the 23&Me test results don't mean much, chronic diarrhea does, you need to get it figured out.

A snug butt plug should solve your problem.

OP - I thought it was a load of hooey as well -- until i ended up in the hospital - my primary symptom is inflammation of my intestines to the point that they expand to where they are pushing against my lungs making it hard to breathe. It does take adjusting your diet - a lot of things contain wheat - you will be reading every label- the good news is you will be eating a lot less processed foods and therefore healthier. Trader joes has a decent sandwich bread - and barilla's gluten free pasta is almost like wheat pasta -- bobs red mill has a variety of products to make --- and also the celiac test isnt a black white yes or no process.... Good luck!!!!

The 23 and Me test is useless. It can’t diagnose Celiac. If you have symptoms, talk to your doctor and get a referral to a gastroenterologist. You need an endoscopy. That’s how you make a determination for celiac and exclude potential other causes like Crohn’s and IBS. There’s no need for drama: endoscopy is completely painless, takes about 20 minutes and is under general sedation. Usually, the most accurate diagnosis occurs when there’s a gluten reaction occuring.
Don’t leap to conclusions or self-diagnose. You can seriously damage your health.

I'd go to an infectious disease doctor first OP. If you eat ass it could be Giardia or some type of parasite.

After the endoscopy I know have to swallow a large pill with a camera inside. After being monitored for a day I will know the next day if I definitely have celiac disease. The prep before the pill/camera procedure is almost as bad as the prep for a colonoscopy.

R20 lol what? The endoscopy should address this, and any suspicious spots can be biopsied if necessary.

Sounds pretty racist, to name a disease after a whole people. What did the Irish, Scotts, Breton, Cornish or Max ever do to deserve this?

If you wake up smelling like wheat the day after eating gluten, then you have Celiac. If you don't smell like wheat the next day, you're just trying to be fashionably ill.

Which situation do you prefer? Being embarrassed by a physician who has seen and heard worse before lunch, or being in pain and then dead? Your call pookie.
