“Live well” is whatever it means to you.
How much must you make to live well in Los Angeles?

300G minimum.

250K/year per person in household at a minimum.

You can struggle in New York, you can’t in LA, the absolute need for a car forces you to have the proper income. 250-300K a year bare minimum.

^ way too low.

85K a year can get you a swell studio in Hollywood.

What?
50-60k a year minimum.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 23, 2018 12:15 PM |
Living in a 'swell studio' is not living well.

Define "living well."

So moving from London as a hairstylist to become a singer in LA is almost impossible then....

R3 I can't drive so I basically take Foothill Transit, metro, and uber anywhere. I can't own a bike either (eye sight condition). It's very much possible to live in LA without a car, you only have to plan in advance. Try to find a job downtown that is well served by lines and you'll be fine.

R10 dat ain’t livin’ well...even in Cleveland!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 23, 2018 1:22 PM |
it is impossible to live well in LA, unless you have a freeway fetish.

I love R10 - possibly the only Angeleno who will post on this thread, instead of some Hollywood wannabe chasing some Kim Kardashian nightmare!

And R10, you must live along one of the foothill communities that the Goldline serves.

It all comes down to real estate OP
If you bought a place five or ten years ago, you don't need all that much-- I have friends who bought very nice houses in Los Feliz and Silver Lake for around $700K -- those houses are probably worth $2M now. Ditto Venice.
Not sure why the car thing is such a big deal. You can lease a very nice car for $600-800/month. Even at $800, that's $9600/year or about $17K of salary.

If you're not a racist and willing to live with blacks or Hispanics, you can live well on minimum wage.

I love DLers, "I can't imagine how anyone survives unless they are making 250k!"
You can be stable and comfortable on say 70k.

To me living well means not in the ghetto and by myself; LA it's 45000-50000 an year if you go by my definition.

R18 Most of the Melrose characters had roommates...are you suggesting they did not live well??
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 23, 2018 8:22 PM |
Hon, it was a TV show.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 23, 2018 8:25 PM |
LOL. I love the Melrose Place Troll. 😂
