Why didn't it get any discussion on DL? It was like a biker soap opera with hot guys and one evil bitch. Too many guns and motorcycles for the gays? My favorites were Juice,Jax,Opie, and Tig. Tig ended up with a MTF trans which was a pretty bold storyline at the time.
It was not marketed to gays. The story line was also filled with common "deplorable" types, so there is that.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 20, 2018 3:30 PM |
Well few things are marketed to gays. We take what's there and make it our own.

It is a bit flabby r3 and the tats are the wrong kind.

This is why I will not watch: I will not be a party to the mutilation of men to serve other men's self-loathing.

OP - whose ass is that? I think its lovely!

That's Charlie Hunnam who played Jax.

R1 stop making everything about politics. It’s a TV show, lighten up. If you only watch things that are “marketed to gays, it’s a shame. Broaden your horizons.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 20, 2018 3:53 PM |
Great show. I loved it and I love Charlie. Yep. I’m gay.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 20, 2018 3:54 PM |
[quote]IIRC the transperson still had his dick.
They're still sending the message that men have to copy women to get a man, and that's inherently homophobic.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 20, 2018 3:55 PM |
R12 - now that's an ass I could get in too.

Tig shoots a guy who calls him a "tranny humper".

I just binged this last month. Great show, great actors, some nice derrieres.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 22, 2018 3:17 AM |
It needed to be on HBO or someplace that would allow nudity and swearing. To not show tits when two of their businesses were porn movies and a strip club was weird enough, but not letting them say "fuck" or even anything harder than "fiddlesticks" was just plain comical--badass bikers talking like they're in Mr. Rogers Neighborhood didn't cut it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 22, 2018 3:24 AM |
Also, the premise that there would be a "noble" version of a criminal biker club was so absurd, it pretty much undermined the entire show. I kept watching until the Ireland episodes, at which point, I bailed.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 22, 2018 3:29 AM |
[quote] I kept watching until the Ireland episodes, at which point, I bailed.
You were smarter then I was. I should have bailed out as soon as Ally Walker's treacherous murderous bisexual ATF agent was knocked off.
The show went into major absurdity way too soon. In just the the pilot episode Jax single-handed kills three Mayan gang members. Billy the Kid has been a legend for nearly a century and a half for killing 4 or 5 men men. By the end of the series Jax's body count was in the mid 40s (somebody counted) and Tig's was close to 30. Somebody would have noticed before Jax considerately lets Vic Mackey kill him.
And oh joy. Kurt Sutter having struck out with "The Bastard Executioner" and having nothng else up his sleeve is rebooting the series. "Mayans MC", set in the aftermath of Sons of Anarchy and focuses on the struggles of a prospect Ezekiel "Ez" Reyes in the Mayan MC charter on the California-Mexico border.

The SOA weren't noble. Actually pretty sleazy the way they would turn on each other.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 22, 2018 10:51 PM |
They did show male and female asses but no tits or cocks.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 22, 2018 10:52 PM |
That fuck looks SO fake. Unless his dick is a foot long I don't see how he could possibly be getting it in there. It looks like the shot is simply meant to focus on his rippling ass.

I've been riding motorcycles all my life and I couldn't get through the first five minutes of this show. They show that blonde guy riding with a cigarette in his mouth, which would never happen IRL unless you were riding very, very slowly. If the cigarette didn't blow right out of your mouth, at the very least, the ashes would blow all over your face.
A cigar, I might have believed.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 23, 2018 5:40 PM |
Ally Walker is such a shitty actress and that character was beyond annoying. I was desperate for someone to put a bullet between her eyes but it just went on and on.

It went off the rails after Opie was killed.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 23, 2018 7:05 PM |
I stuck it out and binged the whole thing. Although it did have some dragging arcs, and you got kinda sick hearing Tara whine about getting out of the club over and over, I found it very satisfying. The characters were all fully-fleshed out, and you connected to all of them. In the end, everyone got what they deserved.
BTW, Katy Segal is a force of nature; she was just riveting. The music was also pretty damn good throughout, with Segal herself providing some of the best cuts. It wasn't perfect, but it was superior tv.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 23, 2018 7:43 PM |
The show had its ups and downs and was generally good for occasional eye candy and turn off your brain entertainment with characters who by and large got what they deserved by the end. Peggy Bundy as Gemma (Katey Sagal) was the best villain on the show.
The series finale was atrocious and had some of the worst CGI on tv at the time. Sutter wanted his Shakespearean ending and he shoehorned it in to the detriment of the series. Not high art except in Sutter's mind, but there are worse shows out there.

The "he is too far away to actually be fucking" is a common thing in sex scenes. I assume the actor just wants to be polite and not actual rubbing their cock sock right into the actresses(or actors) nether regions.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 23, 2018 9:20 PM |
Sorry, should have said Walter Goggins, not Scoggins.

It’s a common thing in sex, period. Everybody doesn’t just dig in close for a few humps and that’s it. Maybe he pulled out and grinded against her clitoris for a few strokes to prolong the encounter.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 23, 2018 9:34 PM |
The only actors worth watching was the dude with the scars on his face, Ron Perlman, and the fat guy sometimes. Humman was so BAD horrible actor, unbelievable in that role. The Transexual was Walter Goggins, who is great in everything he does. The Show was ok for the first year, then really sucked. Reminds me of the Walking Dead, apparently many people swore by it, and hard to figure out why.

Not quite. It's Walton Goggins.
And he's always been great. Loved him on "The Shield."

Goggins does indeed do good work, though its been a while since I've seen him anywhere. His tranny character was pretty gross though.

There's a wonderful scene between Venus and Tig that I can't find online. Basically Venus says that he knows he's just a man in a dress and he wouldn't blame Tig if he backed out.

Adrienne Baubeau played Venus's evil mother who sold him into kiddie porn.

SPOILERS! It was the first show I ever binge watched. I had the first five episodes on the DVR. I watched every season, however I would of liked to seen Jax kill Tig when he found out he was responsible for Oppie's wife's mishap. They also left the step-father Clay alive a couple seasons too long. I expected Jax to kill him when he found he was responsible for his father's death.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 24, 2018 6:16 AM |
Watched it all the way through. Found it ludicrous but very entertaining. By the end it was almost a parody of itself but there were great characters and great performances. Found it amusing they actually gained some prospects. Who in hell would join a club like that ? Not like anyone ever had too much of a good time beyond the first few episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 24, 2018 7:43 AM |
You could always tell when Sutter directed an episode because of the incongruously poorly edited action scene set to a rock and roll song.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 24, 2018 7:47 AM |
Some of the songs used for slomo montages were just SHIT.
not shit.
SHIT.

Season 2 was the best because of Katy's performance.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 25, 2018 1:47 AM |
The original premise was an interesting Faustian bargain --a biker gang takes over a small California town and operates more or less openly. In return they keep the town crime and drug free. There were 100 stories to be told about that, but they almost immediately turned it into a soap opera.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 25, 2018 5:53 AM |
It started out really well but it dragged on a few seasons too long to the point where the plot lines became absolutely ridiculous and Jax became irredeemable.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 25, 2018 11:34 AM |
Yeah, Jax was such a hypocritical murderer that I was starting to root for Clay. At least he knew who he was.

Taryn Manning, from memory. Clay fucked her to get revenge on the young probie who was Katy Perry's ex-boyfriend IRL, because he saw Katy naked or somesuch.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 25, 2018 1:37 PM |

I’m generally not the type to care about British actors playing Americans, but Charlie was laughable in that role.
His accent was dreadful and his acting wooden...

[quote] I suspect anyone claiming they tried to portray a noble biker gang didn’t actually watch the show
Season One there was a traveling carnival worker who molests a local child. They come to the bikers for justice, and justice is bloodily done. Later they steal drugs to give for free to the poor hospice patients. And of course there is the matter of fighting Nazis, who are just bad people unlike a gun-running dope dealing mass-murdering motorcycle club members.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 26, 2018 3:04 AM |
They also:
Smuggled guns
Sold dope
Ran whorehouses
Murdered federal agents
Fixed elections
I don’t think using their muscle to help a friend outweighs any of that, and they only fought those Nazis to protect their own territory from other exploiters.
