Ten episodes starting in June. The teaser trailer looks good. I’m guessing the main character is primarily a composite of Rupert Murdoch and Sumner Redstone.
New series Succession on HBO
|by Anonymous||reply 255||05/03/2021|
I get some serious American Psycho vibe from the trailer.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||01/18/2018|
Just watched the trailer again and it looks good. Frank Rich is one of the producers.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||01/25/2018|
I'm a fan of Brian Cox since "Manhunter" days; I'm in.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||01/25/2018|
Just saw the trailer for this. Hopefully there'll be something gay related
|by Anonymous||reply 4||04/16/2018|
Loving that schnozz in OP's pic. Who is he and why aren't I riding his face yet?
|by Anonymous||reply 5||04/16/2018|
His name is Jeremy Strong,
|by Anonymous||reply 6||04/16/2018|
Looks exhausting and also straight as fuck.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||04/27/2018|
Official Trailer. This looks really good!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 8||05/21/2018|
Ohh how quaint HBO is still a thing.
Doesn't even look good enough to pirate.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||05/21/2018|
Sounds like your Basic Boring Business Soap from the '80s, daytime or night.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||05/21/2018|
Anybody watch the premiere last night? I thought it was pretty good.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||06/04/2018|
Are there ANY hot men associated with this project?
|by Anonymous||reply 12||06/04/2018|
Just watched the first episode. Well, that's a hot [non]Tranny Mess! Cheese, cheese, True-Cheese©.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||06/10/2018|
This show should be A LOT better with its pedigree, but it’s unfunny satire drama mishmash with extremely unlikable characters.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||06/10/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 15||06/11/2018|
Did this show even have anything gay related? If not, probably why it was renewed.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||06/11/2018|
This over reaching King Lear imitation is a bore. Not one character to respect or like. Rich white people fighting over power and money- boring.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||06/11/2018|
The Culkin kid growed up nice.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||06/11/2018|
HBO was never going to cancel a show with Frank Rich (Veep) as one of its showrunners after one season.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||06/11/2018|
Sounds like your Basic Boring Business Soap from the '80s, daytime or night
If only this show were as good as an 80's soap. It's boring as fuck. None, and I mean absolutely NONE of the characters are likable. But the worst thing is that they aren't even unlikable either. They're just boring. And they are all unattractive. I could go to my local mall and find 20 people who are 100% better looking than this cast. The entire cast is so un-energetic and lethargic. So is the show
A Spanish soap is more interesting and I don't even know Spanish, but I know when I flick through the channels the Spanish soaps look like something's going on. Succession has nothing going on
|by Anonymous||reply 20||06/11/2018|
The actress playing the daughter is attractive but zero eye candy amongst the male cast.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||06/12/2018|
r19 That was my first thought as well - a courtesy renewal that wouldn't shit up anyone's resume. I fully expect them to pull the plug next season.
Also, I'm slowly approaching a point where I won't watch a TV show that doesn't feature any gay characters. I'm sorry but there's so much good stuff out there that I don't need to put up with this shit in 2018. It's becoming as bad in my eyes as having an all-white cast. And judging by the trailer, this show is a double offender.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||06/12/2018|
Yeah, it is strange that there’s not one gay character in a show with an ensemble cast.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||06/12/2018|
In 2018 it's almost unacceptable. R23
|by Anonymous||reply 24||06/12/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 25||06/16/2018|
It’ll be huge in the UK. They love shows with assholes in them.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||06/17/2018|
Well, the fitness trainer was certainly hot. Maybe he’s gay?
|by Anonymous||reply 27||06/17/2018|
That's Brock Yurick. And he's gay
|by Anonymous||reply 28||06/17/2018|
Seeing himself on TV
|by Anonymous||reply 29||06/17/2018|
Did this show even have anything gay related?
The Culkin character mentioned dick in the ass, I am assuming he is gay
|by Anonymous||reply 30||06/18/2018|
Just like the HBO series “Looking”, I hated it and stopped watching because I couldn’t relate to any of. the characters. There’s no reason to watch if I don’t see “me” on the screen.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||06/18/2018|
The Culkin character is trying to manipulate the hot male trainer into some kind of sexual arrangement. Not sure why he jerked off all over the window.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||06/18/2018|
What's strange is the review I read said it was funny, not laugh out loud funny but they compared to Arrested Development. They need more eye candy. I think the Jeremy Strong is a good actor but definitely not nearly as hot as Mark Strong.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||06/18/2018|
It’s not funny - just reminds me of Trump and kids.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||06/18/2018|
[R30] I came here to see if anyone else was watching this show because Culkin’s character is hella gay. It’s kinda of pathetic that he’s manipulating the trainer instead of just being straight about wanting to fuck him. Surely his money can compensate for his lack of charm and looks
|by Anonymous||reply 35||06/18/2018|
Didn’t Brock Yurich used to make cam videos where he’s showing his naked ass? I remember a link to one of those being posted in a thread on DL. I wonder if that was part of his audition tape for Succession!
|by Anonymous||reply 36||06/18/2018|
Every one of the male characters alludes to gay sex and several of them look like they’d suck a cock to get ahead or are hiding behind a straight facade. It’s not a show about sex, but about power, wealth and validation. I think there’s potential to create a gay arc of a story and yes, some of it is funny in a calculated, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” bumbling kind of way. Just finished 3rd episode.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||06/20/2018|
Really, really awful acting and the dialogue is horrible. What was the point?
|by Anonymous||reply 38||06/20/2018|
I disagree, R38. I think the acting is terrific and the dialogue is intelligent and even witty at times. I don’t see how the constant bickering will sustain itself over ten episodes, though.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||06/20/2018|
I hate the sister's fiance, what an asshole
|by Anonymous||reply 40||06/20/2018|
Pros: The acting and writing are pretty strong. It is also well-shot. Brian Cox is good. Cons: There is not a single character with any redeeming qualities. This is a show about horrible people across the board.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||06/20/2018|
R41 but isn’t that also true about Veep?
|by Anonymous||reply 42||06/20/2018|
I hate the sister's fiance, what an asshole
It's funny. He's a pretty posh British actor. He really is doing a good job as an asshole, idiot American
|by Anonymous||reply 43||06/21/2018|
I’ve never liked Matthew McFadyen in anything but he’s very funny as Shiv’s fiance.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||06/22/2018|
This series should be called Rich Assholes. Not even one of the main characters is likeable or has any redeeming qualities. I don’t know if it’s Trump fatigue but watching a show of nothing but rich selfish narcissistic sociopaths isn’t entertaining. At least in shows about rich people like Dallas or Dynasty there were a few good characters you cared about. All these characters are being written or improvised to such insufferable extremes that it feels more like an episode of Oz.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||06/25/2018|
Matt McFadd is in this? I saw it OnDemand, but bypassed it because it's description didn't sound very interesting, but I do like Matt McFadd - he was in PBS "Little Dorrit" and of course he played Fitzwilliam Darcy to Keira Knightly's Elizabeth Bennet back in 2005.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||06/25/2018|
For those who were wondering the RECCNY Ball was shot at Cipriani in the Wall Street district.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||06/25/2018|
I liked the Thanksgiving episode. Marcia’s son is yummy.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||07/03/2018|
It’s not funny - just reminds me of Trump and kids.
Cons: There is not a single character with any redeeming qualities. This is a show about horrible people across the board.
I like it [italic]because[/italic] the characters are so rotten. And the oldest sons has a Don Jr. vibe about him that makes the show even more enjoyable to me.
I don't necessarily watch a TV series or movie to relate to or care about the characters. (That's why I love VEEP.)
Not everything needs some kind of moral compass. In fact, sometimes that's the point: there IS none.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||07/03/2018|
I made it 4 episodes. This show is..dull.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||07/03/2018|
Just what I want to see. A reprehensible family of greedy, cut throat bastards. Pure fiction, right?
(And isn’t like 90% of the cast from the UK? Here’s an idea - hire Americans who know how to do American accents)
|by Anonymous||reply 51||07/03/2018|
R51, the only Brits in thr cast are Brian Cox (Logan) and Matthew McFadyen (Tom). Sarah Snook (Shiv) is Australian. Hiam Abbas (Marcia) is Iraeli.The rest are Americans. Most of the production team are Briish, though. The last two episodes were shot in England.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||07/04/2018|
Are people actually still watching this? The ratings are in the toilet. It has zero buzz. I bet HBO reneges on its second season renewal. I don’t know anyone watching this show.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||07/04/2018|
R54 - I did a Wiki check and saw the ratings have been fairly consistent.
Certainly more people are watching this than were watching Here and Now.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||07/04/2018|
R53-uhhh, WRONG. Its ratings aren’t in the toilet. It’s true there are people who hate it but there are people who LOVE it. Vinyl was too expensive to produce which is why HBO reneged on a Season 2. It won’t happen with this one.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||07/04/2018|
I’m still not sure if I liked Vinyl.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||07/04/2018|
After the 2008 Recession and all that Wall St fuckery —and now with Trump in charge bringing it all back? Watching rich sociopathic fucks with 1%er problems is not my idea of a good time. I can watch CNN for that.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||07/04/2018|
The most recent episode was GREAT. Poor Kendall.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||07/11/2018|
I like it. I think it's hilarious to watch their lives fall apart. Kendall is kind of likeable.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||07/11/2018|
The Culkin kid is trying way too hard to be the interesting asshole character. Every episode is him doing something "shocking" or saying anything un-PC to show how "cool" he is. You're not edgy, kid. Give it up already.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||07/11/2018|
I was happy to see Kendall get his ass kicked he’s too weak and stupid to beat his father. He doesn’t deserve to be king.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||07/12/2018|
The New Mexico episode was great.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||07/17/2018|
" I don’t see how the constant bickering will sustain itself over ten episodes, though."
Have faith, dear brother, have faith.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||07/17/2018|
Is Culkin gay in real life? I've always had a crush on him and loved his horny gay character in Scott Pilgrim.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||07/21/2018|
I don’t think he is.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||07/22/2018|
Is this a straight, boring, "relevant" version of Sexy Dirty Money for douchebags?
|by Anonymous||reply 66||07/22/2018|
Uhhhh, RIGHT R55. It’s numbers are terrible, it consistently comes in at the very bottom of Sunday shows, and it LOSES viewers every week. No one cares about or is watching this show. It has no buzz which is critical for HBO. After multiple episodes, it barely rates sixty posts here. CANCELED. Bye bitch.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||07/22/2018|
Hey, idiot/R67, it’s been renewed for a second season.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||07/22/2018|
A very perceptive rave:
|by Anonymous||reply 69||07/22/2018|
I want to see all of the kids moms. And how that plays out. I hope they have some good actresses lined up.
|by Anonymous||reply 70||07/22/2018|
Hate it so far and I wanted to like it. I usually love business soaps or dark family dramas, but this is just a bunch of assholes doing asshole shit. Boring boring boring. The Culjin kid is especially noxious.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||07/22/2018|
R70, Harriet Walter plays Shiv’s mom. The last two episodes were shot in a castle in Gloucestershire, England.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||07/22/2018|
Last night’s episode was great. Kendall looks so much better with facial hair.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||07/23/2018|
Completely drawn in. Some of the dialogue is very well-written (the scene with the stepmom and the bimbo in New Mexico made me laugh) and the acting is fantastic, especially the father and Kendall.
None of the characters, except the father, is completely horrible and the theme of adult kids still jostling for a distant father's affection and approval, while navigating their own relationships, is universal.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||07/24/2018|
Matthew MacFadyen is the best thing in this.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||07/24/2018|
I agree, R75. He’s fucking hilarious.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||07/25/2018|
Uhhhh, RIGHT R55. It’s numbers are terrible, it consistently comes in at the very bottom of Sunday shows, and it LOSES viewers every week. No one cares about or is watching this show.
To add to what R67 said, you're wrong: the show is not losing viewers.
I made the argument @ R54 that viewership has been consistent.
In fact, the premier episode had 582,000 viewers and the one this past Sunday had 637,000.
|by Anonymous||reply 77||07/25/2018|
The show hasn’t grabbed some people but there are some people who absolutely love it. I think it will be a big deal when it starts airing in the UK next week. They appreciate shows about assholes over there.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||07/25/2018|
Slow. Boring. The hesitated speech pattern used by all of them makes me want to blow a hole thru the TV. I've given up on it.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||07/25/2018|
Love that upper lip on Kendall. Does anyone else? The long masculine upper lip. Anyone seen him nude?
Also love Tom. Would love to fuck with both of them. So hot!
|by Anonymous||reply 80||07/31/2018|
Harriet Walter was great as the mother this last week. I hope she returns next season.
I like the actress playing Siobhan as well.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||07/31/2018|
Loved the mother’s line to Cousin Greg-“Your father tried to sleep with half the men in Saucalito.”
|by Anonymous||reply 82||07/31/2018|
(And isn’t like 90% of the cast from the UK? Here’s an idea - hire Americans who know how to do American accents)
Brian Cox's character is from Scotland just as Cox himself is.
Marcia is Israeli just as the actress who plays her is.
The only two characters who are playing Americans who are not Americans themselves are Siobhan (Sarah Snook is Australian) and Tom (Matthew MacFadyen is British), and they are both affecting decent American accents.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||07/31/2018|
There's only one mother of the children we haven't seen yet: Connor's mom. They've not even mentioned yet who she is or if she's still alive.
The mother of the other three children is Lady Caroline. Since the children don't have British accents they must have been raised in the US--they've not really explained that yet either.
|by Anonymous||reply 84||07/31/2018|
R84, the reclining blonde woman we see in the opening is supposed to be Caroline, I guess. Sharon Stone would have been great casting.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||07/31/2018|
R84, thr kids probably split their time between the US and the UK. Cheltenham was where Roman was put in a dog cage and that’s in England.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||07/31/2018|
I really like this show but the underground party scenes were awful. And didn't Shiv's fiance hook up with a trannie who shot in his mouth? But in the wedding scenes she was a bio woman. Can someone clear this up for me?
|by Anonymous||reply 87||07/31/2018|
She just looked like a trannie but she is all woman.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||07/31/2018|
Which ones are full siblings?
|by Anonymous||reply 89||07/31/2018|
I think Caroline is Roman and Shiv’s mother but Connor and Kendall have different mothers.
|by Anonymous||reply 90||07/31/2018|
And didn't Shiv's fiance hook up with a trannie who shot in his mouth?
No, it was an actual (but very tall) woman, who later shows up at the wedding in the UK. Tom shot his wad in her mouth, and then she gave him a snowball (i.e. she passed his own load back into his mouth).
|by Anonymous||reply 91||07/31/2018|
No, Connor's mother is Logan's first wife. The mother of Kendall, Roman, and Shiv is Caroline Collingwood, Logan's second wife.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||07/31/2018|
Caroline looks too young to be Kendall’s mother but whatever.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||07/31/2018|
With some fine tuning in S2, this has a lot of potential.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||07/31/2018|
Caroline looks too young to be Kendall’s mother but whatever.
Harriet Walter, who plays Caroline, was born in 1950.
Jeremy Strong, who plays Kendall, was born in 1978.
She is plenty old enough to be his mother.
|by Anonymous||reply 95||07/31/2018|
I luv the theme music!!
|by Anonymous||reply 96||08/01/2018|
So do I, R96. It’s brilliant. I like the bridge even better than the main melody.
|by Anonymous||reply 97||08/01/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 98||08/01/2018|
Is there any nudity on the show?
|by Anonymous||reply 99||08/01/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 100||08/02/2018|
Looking forward to the season finale Sunday night. I have a feeling the dad will croak.
|by Anonymous||reply 101||08/03/2018|
I watched half of the first episode weeks ago and was bored, and tuned out. Then I came back and binged the next few episodes last weekend, and am now hooked. I like the look, the dialogue and the dark humor. I hate several of the main characters, but that's what a good soap does, right?
Looking forward to the season finale, and the next batch of episodes in a year or so. Are we sure it has been renewed?
|by Anonymous||reply 102||08/03/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 103||08/03/2018|
If the dad doesn't croak, I have a sense the buyout of Waystar/Royco will be successful and the father will be ousted.
|by Anonymous||reply 104||08/03/2018|
Good seaon finale. That poor server.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||08/05/2018|
It was a weird way to end the season. There's absolutely no tension about what will happen next season. Kendall lost his bid to takeover and was humiliated by his father; Siobhan confessed her infidelity and asked for an open marriage from Tom, and he forgave her on both counts, and got to throw Nate out of the castle. So the two major plot threads of the season are pretty thoroughly resolved, and there's no cliffhanger for what will happen next.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||08/05/2018|
I also don't know why they set out to evoke Chappaquiddick so directly.
|by Anonymous||reply 107||08/05/2018|
It badly needs some good looking men in the cast...
|by Anonymous||reply 108||08/06/2018|
Marcia’s son Amir is a hottie.
|by Anonymous||reply 109||08/06/2018|
Oh my god Kendall is a fucking mess can’t even articulate what the hell hes trying to do. Even with his father sick and barely functioning Kendall is still bitched out by him.
|by Anonymous||reply 110||08/06/2018|
The Chappaquiddick thing last night was really weird. You could really see it coming when they got into the car and Kendall offered to drive--it was too transparently set up.
I actually though Kendall looked really hot with his shirt off.
|by Anonymous||reply 111||08/06/2018|
Connor said that as President he wouldn’t be paying tax. Americans never say “paying tax,” we say “paying taxes.”
|by Anonymous||reply 112||08/06/2018|
I think they all grew up in England for a bit R112. At least the last three did. Not really sure of the eldest's story yet.
|by Anonymous||reply 113||08/06/2018|
Some of you people truly have zero taste. It's a compelling, exciting show with top tier actors and wonderful writing.
|by Anonymous||reply 114||08/06/2018|
The oldest one (Connor) also was in England growing up at least partially. He remembered Roman wanting to be placed in the dog kennel in Cheltenham.
|by Anonymous||reply 115||08/06/2018|
Yeah but Connor’s probably lived the major portion of his life in the US. He wouldn’t say “paying tax.” That’s the only Brit colloquialism that was used by the kids. I just think it slipped by with nobody bothering to correct it. Both the writer and director are British.
|by Anonymous||reply 116||08/06/2018|
Was this good??
|by Anonymous||reply 117||08/06/2018|
Yes, I love it. Was hooked from the beginning.
|by Anonymous||reply 118||08/07/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 119||08/07/2018|
Awesome series that started a bit slowly and got better every week. The finale was great, and I didn’t need some cliched cliffhanger to return for a season 2. There’s plenty to wonder about as far as what happens to every character.
Strong acting, witty and biting writing, good business stories, great production values....I’m hooked.
Are the characters likable? No. Usually that’s a death knell for a series — but not with SUCCESSION. It’s hard to explain, because while I’m not really rooting for anyone, I’m engrossed anyway.
I MUCH prefer this than to a serious cowboy/western drama like YELLOWSTONE with Kevin Costner. It’s beautiful to look at, but there’s just not enough plot and too many meaningless scenes that scream WTF?
|by Anonymous||reply 120||08/07/2018|
|by Anonymous||reply 121||08/07/2018|
One critic's take on the series . . .
|by Anonymous||reply 122||08/09/2018|
Would recommend this series to anyone intelligent who loves dark comedy and good drama. A soap opera for smart people.
The production design in the castle was stunning. The dialogue is often excellent - witty and sharp.
And the characters almost each have a redeeming feature that contrasts with their dickishness: the Caulkin guy caring if anyone died in the rocket blast and saving his brother from his own drug abuse.
Kendall loving his wife and children, and, deep-down, loving his father too much and wanting his father's love in return. Shiv realizing that her husband (a brilliant character) actually truly loves her for herself and so attempting to protect him even as she goes for the jugular with her father. Greg the Egg. Marcia claiming to put family first. Even the father in the car with Shiv before the wedding displays true affection for her.
Very much enjoying this.
|by Anonymous||reply 123||08/09/2018|
Thanks for the Voice review link, r 122. This series turned out to be a lot more than it seemed it was going to be after the first episode or two.
|by Anonymous||reply 124||08/09/2018|
Yeah but Connor’s probably lived the major portion of his life in the US.
There's no way you could possibly know that one way or the other.
You're just guessing.

Hey, jerk off/R125, the accent is usually the tip-off. Grow a brain and maybe you can comprehend the concept.
|by Anonymous||reply 126||08/09/2018|
Just finished the first season. Terrific show, and it did get better as it went along. The show really understands family dynamics which I think is its ultimate subject. What a great cast - not just the leads but the supporting players too. I love the woman who plays the ball-busting general counsel.
Not a cliffhanger finale per se but there's a lot in play for the second season - Kendall having to rebuild his life (again) and being back under Logan's thumb ... continued questions about Logan's mental and physical health ... Greg's possession of the supposedly shredded cruise line documents, which now potentially implicates both Logan and Senator Eavis (and Tom) ... Connor's vanity presidential bid ... and what the hell is going on with Roman's sexuality?
There did turn out to be a gay character, btw ... the Asian tech CEO whose company Waystar bought up in the first episode. He has his boyfriend/husband along to dinner with Roman, in the episode about the no confidence vote. Roman seemed like he wanted to suggest a threesome. The actor, Rob Yang, was listed in the opening credits despite a pretty small role, so I assume he'll be back for the second season.
I found it interesting how Logan's health seemed to improve as he fought back against Kendall's no-confidence vote and takeover attempt ... it was like he drew strength from it.
|by Anonymous||reply 127||08/14/2018|
One of the impressive elements of this series has been its effective use of real locations, including city locations and overseas sites that appear to be very real, especially outdoors. Another from the past season that did this was "Killing Eve."
Contrast, say, "Dynasty" or "Knots Landing," which were faves of mine as a youngster but was not far removed from a daytime soap. A few outdoor scenes now and then, but mostly the same sets inside a studio week after week.
|by Anonymous||reply 128||08/14/2018|
Agreed, R127, the show is about family dynamics. It's about a parent who metes out affection and approval and how that can completely fuck up his children and their relationships to him, to each other and to the world in general.
Add the visuals of the fantastic wealth and privilege of the Roy family (the castle episodes were pure eye candy), the sharp dialogue and the excellent acting (agree about the actress who plays the general counsel being very talented) and it's a great ride.
The addition of the Bernie-esque presidential candidate is a stroke of genius.

R127, I'm not so sure Logan is a weak as he displays. I think he's playing with Kendall and the everyone else. He remembered that I Went to Market game hours later. in NM, they said Logan wouldn't go swimming and that he doesn't trust water. Lo and behold, after everyone leaves, he's seen sorta swimming. He seems to know what's going on business -wise as well. I think he's playing a weird cat-and-mouse game with Kendall to determine if he's the right person to take over the business.
Kendall wasn't even smart enough to realize that Marcia, Amir and Logan were trying to help him out of the dead waiter issue. They kept suggesting that the waiter was a thief and perhaps stole his access card. He kept saying no.
I would like to know what Marcia is up to. She seems really shrewd. And it's odd that Logan seems to have genuine affection for her.
|by Anonymous||reply 130||08/14/2018|
None of the kids are strong. Kendall talks a good game, but, as seen by his frantic search for drugs just before a power call, he's not up to a leadership role. Their father has emasculated them.
I have seen this over and over with the children of the rich, famous or powerful. They don't feel worthy (deep-down -on the surface they're little shits) because they didn't earn the money, so they destroy themselves. It would be sad if they weren't so entitled.
However, I think that Kendall is going to get his mojo and challenge his father again, because otherwise what kind of intrigue is there going forward?
Maybe Connor is the dark horse and will emerge as a leader, but he (and Roman) are so silly now that's hard to imagine.
Shiv, for all her supposed success as a political operative, still seems like a dilettante, too tied to Daddy emotionally.
Someone in one of the threads asked about money. I'm guessing by the kids' comments that they've already inherited large sums, which is interesting in itself because why would Daddy give them money (independence) knowing full well that it would give them some control over their own lives?
And I agree that Marcia is fascinating and seems to have a genuine affection for Logan.
I'm going to rewatch because I'm sure that there's a lot of great dialogue I missed the first time.
He remembered that I Went to Market game hours later. in NM, they said Logan wouldn't go swimming and that he doesn't trust water. Lo and behold, after everyone leaves, he's seen sorta swimming.
He had scars all over his back, so I assume he is hiding that from everyone but his wives or women he sleeps with. They looked like whipping scars.

The kids have all clearly a lot of money now even with their father alive. Connor has that enormous compound in New Mexico, and the other three have beautiful and incredibly expensive homes in Manhattan: Roman lives in a coop, and Shiv and Kendall live in brownstones.
They may have inherited money from other relatives.We don't know if Connor's mom is still alive, and the mother of the other three seems to come from a wealthy aristocratic English family.

Oh yeah, I noticed those scars, too, r132. Current wife? Second wife? First wife? Self-flagellation?
I couldn't remember from where I knew the actor playing the father, until I saw him in part of one of those Bourne movies over the weekend on cable (sorry, I can't keep those movies separated in my mind...Supremacy? Legacy? Whatever). The old character actor is good at playing a powerful villain, but I look forward to more subtlety in the next season of this show.

"Not a single character with any redeeming qualities"
Oh I heard about this one -- "Life at the White House."
|by Anonymous||reply 135||08/14/2018|
I would guess the scars were from childhood, r134. They may explain why he's been so ruthless and damaged his entire life.
|by Anonymous||reply 136||08/14/2018|
R132, I completely forgot about those. What the fuck is that about!? Can't wait until next season starts. I'm finding this as intriguing as Billions on SHO.
|by Anonymous||reply 137||08/21/2018|
It's way better than Billions. I gave up on that after a season. This show is so expensive to make. I love it tho
|by Anonymous||reply 138||08/21/2018|
You have quite a wait ahead, R137. The second season doesn’t start shooting until January and most likely won’t air until next September at the earliest. Sunday night in the summer of 2019 on HBO will all be about the final season of Game of Thrones.

I was sick to my stomach watching that hearing today.
If that fat fucking candy-Barr withholds portions of Mueller’s report from the public, can Mueller testify before Congress and spill all the beans? If yes, what legal ramifications, if any, could Mueller face?

Season 2 starts airing in August.
|by Anonymous||reply 147||05/03/2019|
Yup, and here's the teaser.
I finally relented and watched it last year and it's great. Still weirded out by the almost complete absence of black people, though. In NYC, of all places. No gays anywhere to be seen either. There's an unusual number of Indian Americans, so that's nice I guess.
|by Anonymous||reply 148||05/03/2019|
Well, Logan Roy has been established as somewhat racist.

I watched the first season. I kept hoping it would get better. It did not. There is not one likable character in the whole bunch.
|by Anonymous||reply 154||05/21/2019|
The cousin (Greg) is very likeable. I just wish there was someone lickable amongst the male cast.
I watched the first season. I kept hoping it would get better. It did not. There is not one likable character in the whole bunch.
I agree 100%.
Quelle surprise, yet another cable series featuring thoroughly unlikeable rich people. Isn't BILLIONS bad and annoying enough?
I couldn't get through the first season of this hot mess. The US is falling apart, mostly thanks to people like this, yet we are supposed to give a shit about this vile corrupt family? This series is not my idea of enjoyable escapism, mostly because these types of people do exist. The reality of it all is not something I want to see in a TV series.
What are the producers of these types of shows thinking? Is there really an audience for this garbage? I realize, there have always been TV shows about rich hateful families, but this series is not fun or camp like older TV shows such as DALLAS of DYNASTY. In this series, you can't root for anyone, if you do, you're a sociopath.
|by Anonymous||reply 156||05/21/2019|
r156 I had the exact same reservations about this show (also that it's too straight and white - look at my post at r7) but then I watched it and saw that the writers were actually making these rich fuckers squirm and I delighted in that. Of course I don't root for anyone but I can't help but be entertained by them fucking up and failing left and right.
Haven't watched Billions, even though it's constantly being recommended to me. I think one rich family show is enough for me.
|by Anonymous||reply 157||05/21/2019|
Exactly, R157. This show isn’t asking us to CARE about any of these people, we are actually told we can laugh at them. And yet, by the season finale, we did feel something for the main shithead Kendall when things went very wrong for him.
|by Anonymous||reply 158||05/21/2019|
R158, the thing is I don't care either way. I sure don't care to champion these types and I don't care to watch bad things happen to them either.
I simply don't care about these kinds of extremely wealthy people and their self-absorbed shallow lives.
|by Anonymous||reply 159||05/21/2019|
Their lives of self-created drama are not at all interesting to me.
I already know lots of people who constantly screw up their lives on purpose, they need 'drama' and constant attention. I sure don't need to see those types on TV.
|by Anonymous||reply 160||05/21/2019|
Then you’re missing out because Succession is one of the most well written, best acted shows on TV.
|by Anonymous||reply 161||05/21/2019|
Yes, the writing is excellent and I can fully appreciate it on that level, all the while finding the characters repugnant. I also enjoy some of the corporate intrigue.
I hope the gay Asian features more in the second season. I like him.
|by Anonymous||reply 162||05/22/2019|
Just finished S1 last night. Few thoughts.
Really well made show. Makes me want to be in NYC.
I don’t trust Marcy (the 3rd wife’s) son. Maybe it’s my Game of a Thrones hangover coming out but he knows too much for a non-family member, family member that wasn’t a longtime employee. He and his mother were present during a transparent discussion about covering up the (slightly) hot waiter’s death. Plus her son is silently promoted during the Thanksgiving episode.
Back to the son, he’s getting setup for an inheritance that will cause drama. The children were arguing in e1 about giving Marcy 2x voting share. Why would a housewife (I’m sure there is a LOT more to her) need double the power? Because she will pass some of her stocks to her son, depending on the rules of the will.
I like that I don’t like anyone. I am also biase in that I wanted a gay character. It’s teally odd that the show has very limited sex in any direction, but at the same time I respect it for keeping the story about family and power without using the tired trope about sex.
Finally, besides the Egg head cousin, the trainer that we see for 2 little scenes, and Marcy’s son, no one is fuckable. Please send some eye candy for S2
The Corporate Counsil actress and character is my favorite. I couldn’t place her until I remember that she played the crazy mom in Carrie 2: The Rage.
Trying to fix typos since im on my phone. Sorry.
|by Anonymous||reply 163||05/23/2019|
Glad you caught up r163.
|by Anonymous||reply 164||05/23/2019|
Also, Tom leaving his friend behind for his lame bachelors party really pissed me off. They should have skipped his wedding.
He really is the worst and seems gay as a goose, but I am continually entertained by his antics and new money outlook.
The daughter’s politico ex-boyfriend is bitch-made. I would have told him to fuck off with putting that wine back in bottle. The daughter really likes dating weak men.
I loved how she springs the I want an open marriage thing on him on the wedding night. These people so whatever the fuck they want and never face consequences, it’s fabulous TV.
|by Anonymous||reply 165||05/23/2019|
Finally, besides the Egg head cousin, the trainer that we see for 2 little scenes, and Marcy’s son, no one is fuckable.
That trainer and Kieran Culkin need to fuck already. Though isn't Roman sexually dysfunctional in some way? He wants to be held or something instead of fucking, I can't recall anymore. I bet he's a homo.

r171 is he clueless though? He craves attention from them, new money, so to secure the bag he plays the lovebale doofus. He is vicious and calculators with Egg Head so there is a lot going on behind his public persona.
His wife couldn’t handle him if she saw his real persona. Very interesting character.
|by Anonymous||reply 173||05/23/2019|
R163, a gentle correction-the wife’s name is Marcia. Her son’s name is Amir.

I love everything about this show from the casting to the crazy tinkly piano introduction music. Culkin runs with his character. The last episode was fantastic the marriage at that big English castle and that Chappaquiddick style cover up. The family is dysfunctional and I love it. Looking forward to the next season.

|by Anonymous||reply 177||05/23/2019|

r176 Wasn't the first season kinda already about the mad scramble to take over the empire in case pops didn't make it?
|by Anonymous||reply 179||05/23/2019|
r177 it means that I have very little interest in NYC, I prefer Chicago (cleaner/more beautiful/affordable/better public transit), but the show makes NYC seem sexy. No, I don't think NYC is like that at all unless your a billionaire, like this fake family.
Love you too r178!

The younger crowd loves misery and watching people humiliate themselves and each other, so they could give a fuck.
|by Anonymous||reply 186||07/11/2019|
I just finished this after taking a few months to get into it and I want more now.
J. Smith-Cameron really is one of the best things about the show. Every time she's on screen I get excited.
I still don't know if I'm attracted to Kieran Culkin.
|by Anonymous||reply 187||07/11/2019|
I'm now bingewatching season 1. I made it through 7 episodes yesterday, so I'm calling it compelling.
Someone upthread compared Jeremy Strong and Mark Strong. Are they related? I find Kendall the most interesting character. I will be neither sad nor surprised if Cousin Greg turns out to be gay. I love Matthew McFadyen in anything and everything, and he's really funny as Tom, as well as being convincingly American. I want to kill both the father and Kieran Culkin's character.
|by Anonymous||reply 188||08/07/2019|

No. Mark Strong's last name was Salussolia until his mother changed their names when they moved to England.
I'm a fan of Jeremy Strong which is why I can tolerate Kendall more than the other equally assholish Roy kids. I just want him to have a win.
|by Anonymous||reply 191||08/10/2019|
He sounds very interesting, r191. I had not heard of him before Succession.

I agree completely with R79 about the halting delivery, so annoying. Seems to be the Brit and Australian doing it the most. Is that part of how they’re trained to do an American accent? I’ve noticed it in other instances, like Rebecca Hall in that Woody Allen movie.

Started a rewatch tonight and keep getting distracted by how little this family resembles one another. You've got Old Man Grizzly, Israeli junkie, friend of Ferris, Kiki Culkin, and Irish lady. In no world are these people from the same genetic pool.
|by Anonymous||reply 225||12/28/2020|
Irish lady is actually an Aussie. And they had two different moms so there’s a reason they don’t all look similar.
|by Anonymous||reply 226||12/29/2020|
And by Israeli junkie do you mean Marcia? She’s their stepmother.
|by Anonymous||reply 227||12/29/2020|

I'm just happy this show survived. it's very expensive to make since they shoot on location. Being in NYC, which was a COVID hotspot, and having an ancient lead had me worried. At this point, no one else can play Logan. Happy to see that HBO and the show gave the show time.
I have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Before HBO Max was free with Hulu I was using HBO Go. One channel I'm happy to support. Plus HBO Max has made a lot of gay content over the past 1-2 years. Simply the best cable channel in my opinion.

|by Anonymous||reply 246||04/27/2021|
I've been wondering that as well for shows like Euphoria. I sort of hope they don't factor that into these shows. Let us live in the fantasy without that stuff. But maybe they need to mention it for storylines to explain why some characters may not be in the same room.

They’ll probably wear masks on occasion or Roman will be caused of infecting everyone but it will likely be a gag and not a plot line.
