I haven't watched it since the second season -- but it's now in its 14th season and it's still ABC's second highest rated show, so yeah, a lot of people watch it. According to the article, it's also airs in 220 territories around the world and has earned nearly $3 billion for ABC.

She and Patrick were very close early on, so it's interesting that things fell apart. Seems like it was a money/power issue.

I just read her VF interview. Wow. It's one of the most candid interviews i've ever read by a working actress. Patrick Dempsey comes across as an asshole.

I haven't watched for quite a few years - since the plane crash - but this was a really interesting interview.

What I took away from it was that, at least with this first show of hers, Shonda Rhimes does not have the kind of power we all thought she had. I know Grey's was a fucking mess behind the scenes and that was why Rhimes instituted a "no asshole" policy at her shows.

Probably why Dempsey was fired, since he didn't want to be there and was fucking an intern when he was. It apparently burned out Chyler Leigh and Sara Ramirez too, both of them seem to have less than glowing things to say about their time there.

I respect Pompeo's honesty. This is probably it for her, so smart of her to get the money and to try and transition to something else behind the scenes.

She doesn't come across as cunty to me. I don't think saying that directors thought she was going to be a star after Moonlight Mile was such a stretch. Moonlight Mile got a lot of good reviews for both her and Jake Gyllenhaal. There was a lot of buzz for both of them. Obviously he went onto a better movie career and she was realistic that her movie career was not going to take off.

She gave a lot of insight into what it is to be a working actor and the thought processes and perceptions of certain mediums (TV, medical shows). Basically she was admitting she thought doing a medical show was beneath her. I find it refreshing that she admits her own arrogance.

The most fascinating thing to me about Ellen Pompeo is that she has done NOTHING but GA since that show started. I mean, not a small role in an indie movie, not a guest shot on a sitcom, not even a Lifetime movie.

Grey’s should go batshit crazy and maybe invoke a UFO storyline and reveal Meredith is so strangely emotionless because she is in fact a Grey alien. That would at least be interesting.

Most of the current characters are so bland. At least with characters like Yang and Burke, they had personalities.

Didnt realize this she was still on. Watching the early episodes, she never seemed to be the lead character though. She was just there, but everybody else was more interesting than her character.

I thought she was interesting for a lead character in the sense she seemed so depressive. I remember in one of their first disaster-themed episodes, she fell into the water and then she looked like she made a choice to go under and drown. I thought, wow, that’s interesting writing. But then the show backed out and got lame and I stopped watching.

I'm shocked at those posters, probably fraus, in thinking she comes across well in that interview. She constantly looks down on others, then tries to hand wave it away with 'oh there's nothing wrong with a Prius,' then why use that as an example to boost your position Ellen?

Despite what she says she does come across bitter about being stuck on a medical show because she knows that this is the best she can do and is trying to make the best of it. She really thought she was going to be a movie actress and this show is somehow beneath her like all the money she makes isn't enough, because she's on 'some medical show.'

She also comes across as jealous of younger actresses with movie careers and an egomaniac. Constantly having a pissing contest with Dempsey to see who could score more money. You get enough already bitch.

I find it hard to believe that her contract would forbid her from working anywhere else. There have been tons of stars on big hit shows who do other things. It's just weird that in all of the 14 years or whatever she hasn't done ANYTHING else.

She has the ideal career for an actor: she's made enough from GA that she won't ever need to work again, yet she's far from a household name and can likely go about in public without getting harassed by or even noticed by fans. She'll be able to produce, and if she's lucky, maybe wind up with Margo Martindale and Ann Dowd's careers, playing slightly feisty older women on well-reviewed indie-film-style series.

As for Grey's Anatomy, it's a huge hit with middle school girls across America. They've found it on Netflix or Hulu and watched all 14 seasons so they're caught up. I know this anecdotally as an uncle and because it's actually been written about as a phenomenon. (Friends and Gilmore Girls are the other shows that 2018 middle school girls are rediscovering)

Hulu only has the same 10 seasons that Lifetime has. ABC will not give Hulu or Lifetime permission to show anything past the year when Christina left. I got that info directly from Hulu.

Seasons 1-2 were perfect. S4 was kinda good but short. S5 where the ghost Denny stuff happened was atrocious.

Never seen it, but I know who she is. Fourteen seasons is something though. Tied with Knotts Landing! Which I did watch regularly.
