Does anyone else think she's a lesbian? I think she's gorgeous.
Janelle Monae

She is gay. Welcome to 2014.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 16, 2018 2:07 AM |
She is really beautiful! Period!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 16, 2018 2:10 AM |
Beautiful, and I love her retro sense of style and humor.
She also was very good in both "Moonlight" and "Hidden Figures."
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 16, 2018 3:14 AM |
Shes so gorgeous and talented.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 16, 2018 4:14 AM |
Is she out?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 16, 2018 5:15 AM |
She's gorgeous, and yeah I remember on twitter she called herself a "Sapiosexual" once. Her album is full of sapphic lines.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 16, 2018 5:22 AM |
She is gorgeous, and certainly knows how to get cast in high-profile pictures. How many people were in TWO Oscar-nominated pictures last year -- beside Mahershala Ali and Janell.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 16, 2018 5:22 AM |
She gorgeous, and a great musician and dancer.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 16, 2018 5:30 AM |
Anyone else? 90% of the LGBT community "thinks" she's a lesbian, and maybe 40% of people in general. The rumors have been around since her inception.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 16, 2018 5:34 AM |
Because they're pictured together? That's not enough for a viable rumor.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 16, 2018 5:41 AM |
R5 No
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 16, 2018 5:48 AM |
Love her. Someone here posted her video of Tightrope when it first came out and I've been a fan ever since.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 16, 2018 5:51 AM |
R11, that's quite an intimate look and pose in that pic. I mean, they are actors so could just be playing around but who knows. The rumors have been around forever.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 16, 2018 5:58 AM |
well, they went on a Mexico vacation together last month. Maybe they're best buds, who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 16, 2018 5:59 AM |
Old news, OP.
Love her, and ArchAndroid is still my favorite album of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 16, 2018 6:22 AM |
i too think she's les or even bi, but Hollywood has changed her once androginous style to a femme one over the years.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 16, 2018 6:53 AM |
I don't think she was ever that androgynous. She always looked very feminine (with makeup, jewelry, and heels) even when wearing suits, etc. Always seemed more fashion than identity.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 17, 2018 1:09 AM |
Michael Stuhlbarg is this year's Janell Monae.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 17, 2018 1:32 AM |
I don't know why I've never been able to get into her music. She's undoubtedly a very talented woman, but everything she does in music feels like... an affectation to me. Which I know you can say of other artists, but it always feels like play acting to me. But, anyway, I can get into this new one she released today even though it's basically a Prince song.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 22, 2018 11:47 PM |
"Lesbian" was my first thought when I saw her in the fun. video.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 22, 2018 11:50 PM |
Those actresses in Hidden Figures must be pint sized because Janelle looked like a normal human sized person in the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 22, 2018 11:54 PM |
Beautiful and talented. If I was straight, I'd so be lusting after her.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 23, 2018 12:13 AM |
Vulture declared her new video.song a "bisexual anthem."
BTW, it's supposed to be an homage to Prince. The sound is vaguely Prince and there's several elements in the video that call back to Prince videos - though the one thing that stood out to me was the identically dressed dancing women, a la Robert Palmer.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 23, 2018 5:10 AM |
That's Tessa Thompson in that vid. It's like a coming out vid for them.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 23, 2018 7:10 AM |
They're both gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 23, 2018 7:39 AM |
I loved her on The West Wing!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 23, 2018 7:44 AM |
Love this song and video. Great art direction
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 21, 2018 11:40 PM |
Yes, some pussy is definitely getting ate when Janelle is around.
I love the "Dance or Die/Faster/Locked Inside" suite from "Arch-Android." I haven't really been into anything since but I think she's talented and I'm open.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 21, 2018 11:59 PM |
The two new songs have been out for weeks and no one cares. Maybe she should stick to acting.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 22, 2018 12:33 AM |
Here's another great video - IMHO with the short 60's pixie/page boy wig Janelle is giving us some Peggy Moffitt realness (fashion designer Rudi Gernreich's muse)
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 22, 2018 12:41 AM |
Yes and yes. She is gorgeous and talented. And I appreciate that she’s not all tits and ass to sell albums.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 22, 2018 12:46 AM |
I love her 2 new songs.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 22, 2018 2:30 PM |
I can appreciate her artistry and there are a few good songs, but I generally can’t get into her new stuff.
Her Archandroid LP, Metropolis EP, and even the song “Metropolis” from her early unreleased LP The Audition...they were so cohesive ethereal and...just perfect. Now it’s all pop and funk on Electric Lady and these new songs.
I still like her, but I definitely miss her old work.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 22, 2018 4:38 PM |
She's a glass-closet lesbian and I love her music.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 22, 2018 9:40 PM |
I wasn’t really feeling her self-righteous lecture to America at the Grammys.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 22, 2018 9:50 PM |
Love her. You have good taste, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 22, 2018 9:51 PM |
Janelle is gorgeous. She and Tessa look good together.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 24, 2018 2:07 AM |
Janelle is amazing. .. She and Tessa are having fun and seem very close.

Banging on the inside of that glass closet door.
Cmon girl, you can say it: “I! Am! Gay!”
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 11, 2018 1:27 AM |
R41 Love it! What is she waiting for???
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 11, 2018 2:36 AM |
Practically begging and pleading for publicity and attention.
Her new songs are flops. Will this spark sales?
What will she do next?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 11, 2018 2:57 AM |
She's had so many failed starts in her recording career. Initially, her record label threw lots of cash toward her 'artistic development' and publicity. It didn't payoff. Then her label paired her up (artistically) with Australian pop sensation "Kimbra" (Grammy winner) for their 2014 "Golden Electric Tour"; that, too, didn't work out. Time's up.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 11, 2018 3:06 AM |
I've loved her two full length albums.
I was a bit cool on the first single from this one but I'm loving Pynk. Looking forward to the new album.
She does seem to be channeling some influences - a little Prince, a little Beyonce, a little St Vincent.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 11, 2018 3:14 AM |
R20, I agree. I like Janelle -- gorgeous, beautiful, very intelligent. But almost every song she does sounds like she's channelling someone else. A homage. She can sing anything, the problem she's so protean I don't know who the real Janelle is.
Compare this to Azealia Banks, who is crazy and a bitch, but wildly distinctive. You know what her influences are - 90s house and NY gay clubs and hiphop- but melds them together in a way that is authentically and uniquely her.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 17, 2018 2:02 AM |
She was so coy for so long, and now she's all "Tessa Thompson is my clit." Probably her first love; plus she's sort of "set" in her lane - people like her, she's been very successful in music and acting; she's a commodity and she's been an "everyone knows" type for years, so her being more forceful about her sexuality isn't gonna result in loss of income.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 17, 2018 4:29 AM |
She Came out as pansexual
Janelle Monáe appears on our cover. In the story, she opens up about her new album, sexuality, Prince and more
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 26, 2018 2:53 PM |
What does "pansexual" mean?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 26, 2018 2:56 PM |
She’s gorgeous, but the eyebrows are unfortunate....
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 26, 2018 2:59 PM |
It means they will say they will have sex with anyone. Transies, otherkin, the Eiffel Tower....Pansexual usually means bisexual in theory, if not in practice.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 26, 2018 3:04 PM |
r50 It means she's attracted to people, regardless of their sex and/or their gender identity. So she's open to transgendered people as well.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 26, 2018 3:04 PM |
[quote]Transies, otherkin, the Eiffel Tower....
r52 No, that wold be omnisexual, which includes pansexuals and objectum-sexuals.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 26, 2018 3:07 PM |
Here is an example of a performer I use when I am accused of not enjoying the current music because I am old. No, it's the music and the performers that are awful. She can sing, dance better than almost anyone I've seen in some time, and act. I bet she would have been a better choice if they were insisting on remaking A Star is Born.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 26, 2018 3:08 PM |
Thanks, R54. I am not as up on my special sexuality QUILTBAG initials as I thought.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 26, 2018 3:10 PM |
This is the type of sound I hope some of the other songs on her new album have, not really feeling the new singles so far but love the videos.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 26, 2018 3:47 PM |
"What does "pansexual" mean?"
She's lesbian or bisexual but doesn't want to commit to a sexual identity because it's "too confining."
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 26, 2018 10:15 PM |
Cool
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 27, 2018 4:13 AM |
her song "Make Me Feel" is really good and original.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 3, 2018 1:54 AM |
R61
She’s channeling Prince, but doing it properly.
Great funk. Love her.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 3, 2018 2:16 AM |
Tried to watch her on Colbert or something she's duller than dishwater. Her eyebrows are overdrawn, and I don't see any beauty there.
