MTV Undressed from the 90s - Gay plots
Remember this show? Hot actors and even a few gay plots. Found some on Youtube but this is my favorite - gay man finds his boyfriends het porn stash and suspects he is bi so he and his friends stage an "intervention" but watch out for the plot twist...You could never get away with this these days as it would be attacked as "biphobic" Also, there is a b-plot about his gay brother that isn't as funny but kinda hot.
PS -Watch out for a very young Pedro Pascal who played the bisexual Oberyn on Game of Thrones (he is the guy in the thumbnail)...

I used to watch this show religiously. I loved the 'matter of fact' gay storylines... not "very special episode", just gay guys no big deal.

Nick Gonzalez hasn't aged much in 20 years, has he?

I remember the show got more gay heavy towards the end when it moved to Canada

The guy who was the president or head of programming or whatever at MTV at the time insisted that Undressed have a certain percentage of gay content. Pretty cool for the time.
For such a low-budget show, it had its moments.

I loved it. I came out in 93-94 and it made a huge impact on me.

I love 90's era culture, I don't care what anyone says.

As a babygay who wasn't even out to myself yet, this show definetly produced some complex feelings in me. Big masturbatory source back in the day.

Was this ever released on DVD or Blu Ray? I seem to recall it's one of those shows where they had trouble with the music licensing rights for the songs they used on the show.

Call me Mary! But imo it's as much part of gay media history of the 90s as is Will & Grace, Canada's Kids In The Hall , and UK's Queer as Folk.

If you want to know why Gen X and the Millennials are cool with The Gays, look no further than MTV. Even in the early 90s, Norm Korpi was going on dates and kissing guys on the first season of the Real World.

Loved the gay brothers storyline where both were scared that the other would find out their roomate/visiting friend were their boyfriends.

r13 Norm on the Real World was groundbreaking but I didn't remember until I read an article recently that MTV made him say he was bisexual and not gay at the time because they thought it would be more palatable to a mainstream audience. Also, there was a sorta big scandal when they aired the footage of him kissing Charles Perez at a gay rights rally and Perez was still in the closet at the time and claimed he wasn't gay and that it was an abortion rights rally. Ha Ha...how times have changed!

r11 Don't think it was ever released on DVD - there are various clips on YT but nothing on piratebay or any of the torrent sites. Most of the gay clips on YT are from Pridevision in Canada where I guess they had redistribution rights. From what I can tell the show only aired for a few years in the late 90s/early 2000s but because it was 5 times a week, there were over 200 episodes when it went off the air...

Funny this thread popped up. I just watched this clip.

I was a terrible insomniac during the summers when I was in college in the late 90s. It was really good television for, like 1AM.

There was no nudity, right, despite the title?

Right. But lots of shirtlessness which was good enough for the 90s on basic cable.

Announced last week that a REBOOT is in the works at MTV Studios.
Roland Joffé, creator and executive producer of the original series, is on board.
I loved this show.

Okay so who remembers MTV's stab at a soap opera from around the same time called Spyder Games? That had a hot closet case character

I have a very vague recollection of this. I remember an episode where two gays have sex in a hot tub or something. They might have just mentioned it/implied it. But at 13-14 it was like the hottest thing ever.

I think there's an episode with young Brandon Routh in his underwear

Seeing the gays getting to be just as intimate as the straights was pretty mind-blowing back then. Just saying.

And yet I still couldn't watch it.
I appreciate MTV did this, and that they had gay people on their crappy dating shows. At the time, I definitely felt this was what all media should have been doing.
Lord knows I watched a lot of crappy programming when I was a teen. So had I been a teen at the time, I would have eaten this up.
Meanwhile, they're remaking it. Is it still going to suck?

R25 I'd always watch the "Spyder Games & Undressed Hour" that aired from 11pm to midnight in my time zone. It was great fun.
Spyder Games was created by gay writer, Christian McLaughlin. He's still around and currently works as one of the scriptwriters on daytime soap, Y&R.
The main reason SG wasn't picked up for Season 2 was because the following year (2002), MTV decided to abandon scripted drama and go full into unscripted, reality type fare. Undressed became another causality.
My favorite scene in SG is when gay closet case, Ivan, is meeting with his fiancee's parents, and he sees the object of his lust - his brother's best friend - across the restaurant and has this fantasy.
