by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 9, 2018 7:15 PM |
The political landscape is not really in our favor now, and the fact that SCOTUS refused to hear the case about that noxious MS "religious freedom law" doesn't help. Plus, Trump and Pence have been pushing a lot of anti-gay nominees for a large number of judicial appointments, which will have very long-term impact if they are approved.

You're SO right, OP.
We should only talk about porn stars, Lady Gaga, the best kind of vodka, what we stole and shoved up our snatch, and other fun, fun, "FUN" things!
Only boring bitter Bettys post about other things.

Omg OP my coworkers are worse...angrier than DLers.
I work mostly with straight, white, “Christian” nerdy men. They all voted for trump....
They’ve been angry for years. I don’t get it. They’re close to retirement age and their (nice) homes are paid off...they drive customized jeeps..,and shoot expensive guns together.
They wear Hawaiian shirts, blue jeans and sneakers to work. Nobody questions them and they bitch about everyone and everything.
They’ve got it all...yet they are soooo angry.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 9, 2018 7:55 PM |
The absolute worst ones are those who attack if your opinion dares to differ from theirs; the entitled ones.
I immediately block those who attack me when all I've done is give my viewpoint or opinion, nothing more nothing less. I didn't say anything offensive, just expressed a different opinion from theirs. Especially those who have attacked me over my longstanding dislike of the Trumps (native NYer here), and as of lately Oprah running for president. Only the entitled ones can express their opinions, it seems. This way I don't have to see their posts supporting either one of them. I also don't go on threads where I can see from the thread tittle that I am going to be annoyed and offended, ie., posts attacking specific groups.
I laugh when they keep replying to me as if I can still see their childish posts and care, when I already let them know they are blocked. I can tell by some of the other replies that they are still trying to get at me. They are the only ones I block though, for jumping me (or another poster) for simply expressing my opinion when I said nothing about theirs and only expressed my own. If they launch into attack-mode with other posters I also block them before they attack me, but in that case don't mention that I blocked them.
They are not only angry people they are also emotionally stunted. A person who doesn't want you posting anything that differs from their views is immature, messed up and miserable. I shudder to think what they are like to live or work with. Or worse, be raised by.
OP - If you avoid their threads and also block them you'll no longer wonder why there's so much anger and misery on the DL.

Intelligent and well-educated people can connect the dots better than those who are not. Funding for education and the quality of education has decreased for decades, but many DL posters are older and, as a result, have received an education that encouraged critical thinking. Therefore, the Elders on the DL can see the Fucking Apocalypse as it bears down on us.

"They’ve been angry for years. I don’t get it. They’re close to retirement age and their (nice) homes are paid off...they drive customized jeeps..,and shoot expensive guns together."
But it's not "their country" anymore, or so they've been led to believe after years of propaganda from conservative shit-stirrers. That said, the old foundations of our economy have changed radically in a rather short amount of time, gender roles have changed, gays don't cower in shame anymore, and other shifts in our society have all contributed to this new kind of Future Shock fueled by anger and resentment that "things aren't what they used to be."
The Baby Boomer generation covers a wide swath of years (1946 - 1964) and I frequently get the feeling that the closer your birthdate is to the earlier years, the more likely you'll be one of the Angry White Males (I'm a Boomer myself, though born in the late 50's).

Who would attack someone on DL for a "longstanding dislike of the Trumps"? Haven't we all hated him since the '80s?

by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 9, 2018 9:05 PM |
The political right and left have have groups of people who are very angry, they live and breathe politics because its something they can project their personal failures, anger and depression on. I've seen and heard rage at George Bush Sr., Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama throughout their entire presidencies, and now it's Trump. This continually occurs and It's always the same type of people, people who blame politics for their own personal problems. It's a distraction, and it's blame-shifting, and it's a way of life which has been better enabled by cable news and social media.. These people are very unhappy to begin with, possibly mentally ill on some level, hateful, and very angry. Of course politics is important, but people don't have to lose their minds over it, nor do they have to villainize other opinions and be so mean-spirited and divisive.
They don't call it the lunatic fringe for nothing.

They're angry about that and angry at the next generation of gay men who don't have to deal with the shit they went through-- they feel unappreciated and unloved.
But mostly OP, I think it's because DL had become a good place to blow off steam for guys when they're upset about something (and many things make Dataloungers upset) and so it feeds on itself.
I suspect most angry posters are quite pleasant IRL

Agree, r41. The "I found a kitty" was infiltrated and ruined by at least 2 posters which maliciously vetted unfounded accusations at the OP. I am doubly disappointed that the DL webmaster fell for this ruse and greed out OP's original message.
Clearly, two "deranged" posters managed to ruin a perfectly great thread.
Webmasters continues to keep OP's message greyed out meaning there is no real effective Web management. Well-meaning DL posters are effectively hostage to rogue, ill-intentioned interlopers and there is no restitution.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 9, 2018 9:21 PM |
No R30, not all. You'd be surprised. I was attacked by the Trump trolls and also those who didn't want to vote for him because he lacked political/government experience but who didn't think he was all that bad. This was going on early in his campaign and even after he was actually in Office. I wasn't bringing attention to him and his family like his supporters were, I was raising awareness about who he really is and what his family is all about. They didn't believe those, like you and I, who have known all about the Trumps since the 80's. I know, hard to believe, but some DLers were actually unaware of how just horrid and destructive this family really is.
I was accused many times of exaggerating, even by those who didn't care for him and didn't vote for him. Look back at the threads from early in his campaign and through his inauguration and you'll see what I mean. And yes, I was attacked as were others here, but I continuously blocked all of them. When they came back using a different device or posted from their work computer I blocked them again. And kept blocking them. I don't care when others disagree with me, but demeaning other posters and attacking them are a different story. I don't want anything to do with adults stunted in adolescence.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 9, 2018 9:22 PM |
You can care and not be so hateful and single-minded, R49. Arrogance and anger accomplish nothing. Hysteria has been at a fever pitch for decades now. What's new about this moment is Twitter, celebrity involvement, clickbait social media, and 24-hour cable news networks. Maturity, understanding, and intellect are important, but few pursue those traits anymore. Immaturity, name-calling and hatefulness are accepted norms these days. Trump is a symptom of our culture, not the cause.

Everyone is angry. Not just those of us on DL. And everyone is angry because they’re afraid. Boomers are finally facing their mortality. Gen X’ers still loom in their shadow, but now they loom in the shadow of Millennials. Millennials see how fucked the system is, that their life span is to projected to be shorter than Boomers and Gen X’ers, but their debt will be higher. Gen Z still thinks the world owes them something and resent the lack of pay off. Men are afraid of women being independent. Women are afraid of losing what independence they have. Whites are scared of becoming the new minority. Minorities are scared there will always be white privilege. The middle class is scared they’re disappearing. The poor is scared that no matter how hard they work, they’ll always be poor. The list is endless. We’re all scared, feel alone in our social groups, and are pissed as a result.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 9, 2018 9:26 PM |

R25 Exactly.
Plus, the thing is, only those old enough to know that, because they have history to look back on and draw from, can make these distinctions and comparisons. Without that history, one can't make these comparisons, draw these conclusions, and therefore have this awareness.

You have no fucking clue who your fellow posters are nor what they have accomplished, or tried to accomplish, to make this world a better place.
BTW: You, R54, and R51, are the arrogant, bury-your-head-in-the-sand, assholes, not those of us who are angry and frightened because we've already lived through a ton of shit, have a lot of experience dealing with life's vissitudes and can see the writing, in blood, on the wall.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 9, 2018 9:42 PM |
R58 - OP's original message "I found a Kitty" was greyed out last week. Have another look. At least 2 posters manged to hijack the thread with 8 or 10 repetitive attack posts, FF'd OP, falsely accused OP of wanting money - and the DL webmaster fell for the deceit hook, line and sinker resulting in OP's message being greyed out.
This is just one but a great example of the level of vitriol on this DL site and the effect it is having on completely well-intentioned posters.

R64, I found the thread and have made it to post r195, in which OP brings us up to speed on what he's going to do with kitty, what the doc said, etc. I haven't come across one negative thread yet. I'll provide a link, and if someone wants to look further, start at r195 and proceed. I'm happy with what I've read. Maybe I put the vitriolics on ignore.
Oh, and the OP's text is greyed out, as you said.

R67, Thank you for that. I hope some other people WW that original post.
As far as the OP's question here: I'm old, and right now, instead of feeling angry, I just feel disgust. “Let all the poison that lurks in the mud, hatch out.” I get sad some days, and can empathise with my fellow DLers when they're have a rough time. But there are some very sweet people here on DL (the Kitty thread mentioned above, which helped me through a sad Christmas).

R41 probably is closest to the general truth.
R62, for the political hysteria.
I don't believe in Russian bots. This place isn't big enough or influential enough to attract that kind of attention. I think the anonymity and solitary experience of the internet has given a mouthpiece to people who would previously written endless letters to the editor of their local paper. Now they have a way to broadcast far and wide, without the editorial page editor standing in their way.
If this were a more communal situation in the real world, there'd be other people to moderate--"You know, this is your fifteenth Trump post and it's only 10 am" or "would you really say something like that in person to that nice middle aged woman just because of a LIVE LAUGH LOVE wall plaque?"
This is where you get to say what you'd never say in real life and it appeals to our worst instincts.
And yeah, a handful of people around here are truly disturbed.

I think a lot of DL-ers have depression (whether they are aware of it or not) which often comes with underlying anger.
Some posters can face their nastiness only anonymously on a forum, but not in real life.
Some posters are easily just as nasty in real life and revel in making others upset.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 10, 2018 1:19 AM |
DL has always been a hotbed of gossip, real or fake, yet over the past year or so, there have been quite a few people who seem to get ultra annoyed with the gossip threads. These people come into these thread, then proceed to call fans stalkers, stans, fraus and other childish names. I find that behaviour quite bizarre, especially at DL, which is essentially a gossip forum.
If people are that extremely annoyed by celebrity threads, all they have to do is stay out of them. Don't go into threads you have no interest in.

[quote]If Americans had gotten angry back in 2000 when Bush stole the election, we probably wouldn't have had 9/11
Gotten angry even though Bush DIDN'T steal the election? Anger for anger's sake, right?
"A comprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots from last year's presidential election reveals that George W. Bush would have won even if the United States Supreme Court had allowed the statewide manual recount of the votes that the Florida Supreme Court had ordered to go forward.
Contrary to what many partisans of former Vice President Al Gore have charged, the United States Supreme Court did not award an election to Mr. Bush that otherwise would have been won by Mr. Gore. A close examination of the ballots found that Mr. Bush would have retained a slender margin over Mr. Gore if the Florida court's order to recount more than 43,000 ballots had not been reversed by the United States Supreme Court.
Even under the strategy that Mr. Gore pursued at the beginning of the Florida standoff -- filing suit to force hand recounts in four predominantly Democratic counties -- Mr. Bush would have kept his lead, according to the ballot review conducted for a consortium of news organizations."
Also, 9/11 was masterminded well before Bush took office. Blame Clinton's FBI and CIA for 9/11. And Bill Clinton had the opportunity to get Bin Laden and chose not to.

Thank you, R22, for succinctly summing up my thoughts. I will just add that I'm not unhappy. I enjoy DL so much for what is trending ATM. But the weird-ass out of the lunatric [sic] fringe replies to a reasonably harmless post or question leads me to believe there's lots of untreated mental illness stemming from anger issues.

The key thing missing on Datalounge is the ability to snatch off one another's wigs.

I believe that not all, but most, of the really bitter political comments are from females. There are gay men that share some of the same unhappy views, but they wouldn't rag about it in writing every single day online. The exception would be the older men who are disabled or who are shut-ins and have nothing else to do.

America is an angry, violent society, exacerbated by entrenched bigotry and racism. DL mirrors this reality.

R95, You're so funny. You honestly think gay men wouldn't rag about something in writing every single day? You haven't been on DL very long, have you?
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 10, 2018 6:29 AM |
I don't think OP was referring to the understandable anger that many feel after the last election. I think she is talking about the random lashing out, for no reason whatsoever, that is endemic in this place. There are many posters here who act as if they hate people, who can't ever believe anything good about anyone, and who will twist anything into a negative slant.

Perhaps you should actually meet some gay men in person, r98.

The issue I find difficult to deal with is the labels and hypocrisy.
You live in one of the richest countries in the world, with many freedoms and rights people would kill for, literally. The Gay rights you enjoy are second to none, yet you bitch as though you have the hardest lives in the world.
The sense of entitlement you have makes middle aged White Men look like puppy dogs. All you care about are your rights and privileges. No one is as hard done by as you. No one has faced evil like you.
Stuff living in North Korea as a dissident or Saudi Arabia as a woman who wants to be free, or a gay man in Chechnya or a drug user in the Philippines etc . The sympathy you could get , you throw away. Everyone is Alt Right or Nazis or Russian or Trolls or Fascist or rascist or bigoted. Then after yelling about people being bigots and rascists you will proudly tell off people , who clearly are not from the US ( 45%) that they can’t spell American , or they must be a Russian Troll, because that must be the only country outside of America..
24/7 it is Trump. If not him , his family. You laugh about his wife being a slut or his son retarded. These are real people. WTF has an 11 year old done to you to warrant such loathing.
You say Trump is the worst . He is Hitler. But you also said every Republican candidate is or was. How can they all be fucking Hitler? You are like the boy who cried wolf, wondering why they don’t get the response they want. You don’t get it because every second of every day you yell the same refrain Why ? He is evil!!!
The bitterness of the result eats you up and then it is thrown at everyone else. Many of us wanted Hillary to win. But she didn’t. To feel bitter for a week or 4 is fine. But a fucking year and every day the same. Never ending stream of misery.
What is the worst part is we are your friends and we are telling you this. We do believe in the same things you do. You just can’t see it.

"We" are your friends, r102? Is that the pluralis majestatis, or are you speaking for an entire Macedonian troll team?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 10, 2018 7:52 AM |
"Perhaps you should actually meet some gay men in person, [R98]."
You too, r95/ r101.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | January 10, 2018 7:53 AM |
Not all of us are angry and miserable, you cunt of an OP!
by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 10, 2018 8:04 AM |
Their vaginas stink, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 10, 2018 8:19 AM |
R103 and if I am Macedonian? What are you asking ? I am part of 45% of the world. Look at an Atlas and go your hardest, cause then at least you will learn something, rather than think you are the Centre of the universe, which is how your behaving now.
You discuss minorities rights. Let’s see how you deal with minorities really? Go on ? Tell everyone who dares to discuss that they are just a silly minority, like you.

R99 This.

All this Trump shit - they were angry WAAAY before Trump. WAAAAY before Obama.

They're all vaping now, r109.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | January 10, 2018 8:26 AM |
Because they are bored and boring, OP. Like this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | January 10, 2018 9:50 AM |
Extreme liberals make five star assholes out of themselves when they say 9/11 happened under Bush.
I loath and loathed Bush and voted for Clinton twice but the '93 bombing which terrified me at the time for its portents happened under Clinton who then went on to ignore the entire matter and brought to us with the sponsorship of the defense industry 9/11.
Like JFK you will not find Slick Willy the man he seemed to be.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | January 10, 2018 11:41 AM |
Wow, there's actually a lot of sanity in this thread. The DL never stops surprising me.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | January 10, 2018 11:57 AM |
So many of us think life as a gay man is going to be one big Gordon Merrick novel, only to find that we are Charlie Brown and the reality of gay life is Lucy Van Pelt holding a football.
Ergo, the bitterness!
by Anonymous | reply 114 | January 10, 2018 11:58 AM |
Are you lost, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 115 | January 10, 2018 12:10 PM |
Oh please R114 you don't think straight men don't have to deal with this as well? The comic strip was created by an unhappy straight man.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | January 10, 2018 12:13 PM |
r102 and r112 seem very angry and miserable. Just sayin'
by Anonymous | reply 117 | January 10, 2018 12:16 PM |
R117 r102 here I am angry because I come onto Datalounge for relief and to discuss and to gossip. I don’t mind discussing Trump. But we don’t discuss. We yell.. a lot. Then we label a lot and then we block. In short Datalounge instead of relief and discussion becomes stressful and like a lesson in Stalinist thinking.
We are bullied and yelled at and labelled. We are told what we must think about everything from Trump to Republicans to Trans etc. There is no gray, just black and white. It is like Animal Farm meets 1984..

Yeah, but he had a lot of money to be unhappy with. And besides, Chad Allen was the voice of Charlie Brown for a time in the 1980s.
