I mean has it always been like this? I thought SF was a gay mecca. Most of the profiles were either old, out of shape pervs or 20 and 30-something average-bodied hipsters. I'm a millennial in my late 20s btw. There are a lot of hot guys in NYC, LA, Atlanta, Houston and Miami. There are some in Chicago, Dallas, Boston and Phoenix. SF was by far the biggest disappointment for big gay areas. What gives?
After looking at a lot of profiles on gay apps, I've realized there are very few hot men in San Francisco

Even Philly has more hot gay guys than San Fran.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 4, 2018 7:18 PM |
R1 yes Philly is OK I forgot to include that
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 4, 2018 7:21 PM |
Just looked at some more. DC has plenty of hot guys too.
San Diego is underwhelming but there are some.
The amount of fuckable guys in SF is comparable to what's in Tampa despite the population difference. Sad!

Techies OP
How many hot ComSci guys were in your school?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 4, 2018 7:37 PM |
Did Looking teach you nothing?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 4, 2018 7:45 PM |
SF has always had the rugged, leathery old gay as the ideal.
No one primps like NY gays do.
I was walking in the Castro and wondering if these were even gay people, as I was so used to the NY gays.
It was refreshing actually.

SF's days as Gay Mecca in a '70s context are long over. City gays seem now to skew older and bearish, and the youngsters highly politicised and more often than not flaming. That is my 2¢ living South of Market, anyway.

Hi Rory! I think you sucked my dick at Lone Star!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 4, 2018 8:00 PM |
The straight guys aren't much to look at either.

San Francisco is a beautiful city. The men? Meh . . ..
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 4, 2018 8:10 PM |
It is the grass is always greener syndrome.

Bite your tongue R9! I smite thee!

San Francisco's men aren't overly groomed but they are so free and piggy in bed.
Of all the sex I've had in the US, the best has been with SF guys. Few inhibitions. They just throw themselves into it.

In November of last year, I visited SF/Castro on business.
SF looks great when compared to Naples FL, heaven's waiting room. Trust me.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 4, 2018 10:47 PM |
SF has always been the place where dogs go to be loved.

The tech boom is ruining San Francisco, and the tech nerds are ruining the view.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 5, 2018 12:22 AM |
It is too expensive to live in San Francisco. Young good looking guys can’t afford to live there.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 5, 2018 1:07 AM |
It’s more like a gay Medina.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 5, 2018 1:32 AM |
Your opinion of Seattle OP? Just curious....
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 5, 2018 1:35 AM |
It’s too damn expensive to live there. Men in their 50s live together in apartments like they’re in the fucking signa house. It’s arrested development like nothing I’ve ever seen.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 5, 2018 1:36 AM |
Agree with R13. In my 20s I moved a lot between SF and LA. Guess where the better sex was? People were not as good looking, but this acceptance led to a lack of inhibitions. In LA even the hottest were bulimic with a psych Rx and couldn’t bring themselves to have sex unless everything was fucking perfect. SF was full of very smart people working their issues out sexually.
It’s not like they were hideous but the hot was more in the groove, not the look. Content over form. You wanna pose? LA. You want to get some work done? SF. I’ve seen quite a lot of biz major frat boys lately that would qualify as hot (blech), but I guess they're straight..

The gay boys in SF look like the audience from the Lawrence Welk Show.

R22 FTW!

I'm a Canadian who has never been to San Francisco but I'd love to go someday.
I found this photo on a website about men from SF. It doesn't look very promising.......
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 5, 2018 2:27 AM |
R19 kinda an extension of SF along with Portland. There were some who my type here and there but I guess the northern west coast vibe is not for me. I'm not saying I want supermodels, just attractive guys in good shape with good hygiene. SF seems to have a lot more older men too. Some gays in their 40s and even early 50s can be hot if they keep themselves together but that doesn't seem to be the case with SF.
Minneapolis is decent for its population size.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 5, 2018 2:47 AM |
You are expecting WeHo clones in San Francisco?!?
That is not what they bay is about. Those hipsters with average bodies is San Francisco. And Portland. And Seattle.
Thats not the area of the countries where guys are all prim and plucked.
I find it refreshing, but its not for everybody.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 5, 2018 3:15 AM |
the hipster beard trend is so awful but it seems to be quite popular in SF
R26 I don't want WeHo clones who only wear designer and talk like valley girls. I'm not a scene gay. I just have standards.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 5, 2018 3:19 AM |
You say you don't want LA, but you clearly fit into SoCal more than NorCal.
It's okay for a place not to be your scene.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 5, 2018 3:26 AM |
SF is about acceptance. Just come as you are. So very few feel the need to work out, preen, etc. People from a variety of subgroups come to SF just to escape their subset's or society-at-large's expectations. In gay-world, that translates to escaping expectations of a lantern jaw, chisled body, perfect head of hair, and the perfect amount of body hair in all the right places.

[quote]After looking at a lot of profiles on gay apps, I've realized there are very few hot men in San Francisco
why would 'hot men' need or want to appear on 'apps'?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 5, 2018 4:12 AM |
Personally I find LA revolting. The people are awful so is the traffic. I don’t give a fuck what the gays look like because odds are there going to take you back to their apartment that looks like a motel
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 5, 2018 4:22 AM |
You really need to be visually perfect to get laid in L.A. But that doesn't mean that in San Francisco the men need to look dirty and unattractive. For the six years I lived there, so few of the SF men were interesting. And usually not hot, either.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 5, 2018 4:26 AM |
Because 1987 was 31 years ago, R30
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 5, 2018 4:32 AM |
that means nothing, R33.
hot men don't need or have anything to do with apps.
they're only for the desperate.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 5, 2018 4:43 AM |
No you don't r32. You have to be rich. That's it.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 5, 2018 4:50 AM |
A lot has changed since you knew hot men R34
You see in the mid 90s there was thing thing called the Internet...
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 5, 2018 4:57 AM |
OP you may have to look for guys in the Palo Alto area to find what you're looking for. There are a lot of hot tech gays into running, tennis, biking, etc who are groomed and feisty.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 5, 2018 5:58 AM |
I think OP and r33 should put their apps down look up and go out into world eyes wide open and go meet Guys. Eye to eye. No its not 1987 but living in the world of apps is so mirror mirror on the wall.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 5, 2018 6:32 AM |
And they are SOO judgy. Two fat queens on grndr contact you for pictures, you send them a pity shot and they want 100 more so they can decide.
